Just in Time for Thanksgiving, Adorable Presidential-Family Stories

Thank goodness Mike Allen of the Politico Playbook watches all the morning shows, because sometimes we can't deal with all of the endless belt-tightening stories (now we're up to weight loss, food shopping, makeover, and investing versions). This morning he brings us all sorts of warm tales about the Obama and Bush families, to remind you that they, too, are humans, just in time for the holiday break. First, on Good Morning America, Laura Bush assured viewers that her mother-in-law, Barbara Bush (who had been hospitalized for slight pain), was recovering. Then she talked about how her twin daughters taught the Obama girls how to make an obstacle course out of the main hallway and how you can slide down the ramp in the residence solarium on your butt! “We did a little bed-jumping, the girls sort of showed them — it wasn’t the Lincoln Bedroom, it was another bedroom with a very tall bed that we usually put a step out for people to step into when they stay in that room," the First Lady explained. "But instead the little girls did the running jump, and Barbara and Jenna, of course, aided and abetted that jumping.” This is exactly the adorable imagery America hoped for when it voted in the young First Daughters-Elect!

Elsewhere on ABC, Barbara Walters talked about her own very special 20/20 interview with the Obamas and told about how the family is having 60 people over for dinner but Michelle is totally not cooking. "My husband ran for president," she said, quite rightly. "I should have an ‘out’ of cooking something for dinner.” Also, and this is the cutest, at one point Barack paused the interview to clean some lipstick off Michelle's teeth. Barbara nearly died. "I don’t want to gush," she said. But … "they’re very cute and very funny in this interview together."

On that fitting note of vague couple-grossness and cuddliness, we'll leave you to your Thanksgiving. We'll miss you very much, and we'll be back on Monday!

Justin Suarez of ‘Ugly Betty’ Is Working on a Clothing Line

Justin, er, Mark Indelicato

Mark Indelicato plans to parlay his Ugly Betty character Justin Suarez’s obsession with fashion into his own label. “I want to do a jeans line for boys and girls that are sometimes too skinny to fit into jeans, or sometimes a little bit too husky to fit into some jeans,” Indelicato told us at the New York City Ballet opening last night. “And I think that it’s a great idea to start a jeans line by a boy that I play, who is fashionable all the time.” The jeans are still in the conceptual stage, but he’s also collaborating with freelance designer Michelle Yin on some dresses that are starting to take shape. “She just did drawings of three of the designs that I sent, and got fabric samples,” Indelicato said. The actor hasn’t decided on a name for the line but says it may well be eponymous.

Is he hoping to make like the Olsen twins and sell his stuff at places like Barneys? “I think I would start off probably at Target, at Wal-Mart, at places where a majority of the people in America are starting to buy their clothes because of the stock market and the economy,” Indelicato told us. After the brand becomes established, he hopes to grow into more upscale outlets, like Bergdorf Goodman. Godspeed, friend.

Derek Lam and Peter Som were also at the ballet last night. View our Party Lines slideshow to see if they watch Ugly Betty.

Dan Abrams’s New PR Firm Kinda Terrible at Own PR

Dan Abrams seems to be having problems with the PR for his new PR agency. Last week the former MSNBC executive told us — and the Times and the Journal — that he was starting an organization where "working" journalists would consult on PR strategies for companies. When we and others questioned whether that would be something that was ethical for "working journalists" to do, Abrams got offended and told the Observer that, really, contrary to what he told the papers and what his Website said, he was actually just trying to get former journalists back on their feet. "There’s something a little bit offensive to me — as all these media organizations are cutting back so significantly on personnel — that people are out there saying, ‘Well, Dan Abrams shouldn’t be trying to help them find any work,’” said Abrams. “You know, give them a break.”

See? It's like he's Mother Teresa and we are Christopher Hitchens! Except, wait, not at all. Because that is so not what happened. The thing that people were reacting to was the fact that he said he would be giving working journalists side jobs as PR people.

Anyway, also, former Times "Sunday Business" editor Judy Dobrzynski is apparently displeased with him for telling us (when we gave him a chance to defend the business plan) that as a board member of his new PR firm, Abrams Research, she would "offer up advice on the financial media" to paying companies. or, as WSJ editor Alan Murray put it, advise "companies about how to game [her] own organization."

"While I agreed to be on his Advisory Board, I most certainly will not do what Dan described using my name," Dobrzynski wrote us this week.

She added that her role would be more in the way of "suggesting journalists who recently left the profession to do what he described … would-be novelists, bloggers, corporate writers" and other people who wouldn't have ethical problems with joining a PR firm. Dobrzynski added that she'd had words with Abrams about this and indicated that some kind of mea culpa from him was imminent. But maybe he didn't trust his own communication skills anymore, because soon enough a lengthy, emoticon-riddled e-mail from his partner, former Huffington Post blogger Rachel Sklar, arrived in our inbox, which read in part:

"Can we add an asterisk by Judy's name with the following clarification at the bottom: "Though she is a board member, Dobrzysnki would be precluded from participating in certain projects, and would have to evaluate any prospective consulting work on a case-by-case basis — as will any Abrams Research expert."

This was followed by another e-mail belatedly declaring the previous one off the record: ":) … really, I swear, we're not gonna ruin journalism! I promise!"

Cool. If you say so. Anyway here's "our" clarification. Best of luck with your new endeavor!

Whitney Port Reaches New, Awesome Levels of Boringness

News flash: Whitney Port has a brand-spanking-new blog. She's using it to promote The City, The Hills, her clothing line, and, naturally, herself. Not only is the background floral and pastel pink while her vlog posts have original (we think) theme music not unlike something Jewel might play, but the content is quite riveting. In this morning's vlog post, she tells us she's super excited about Thanksgiving because her family is flying into town. And she doesn't know what kind of dessert she's going to make yet, but she's definitely going to make one. And oh! She helped her mom pick out the recipes this year — they've been going through cookbooks together. Yay! And she wants you to leave a post about your Turkey Day plans because it's "always fun" for her to hear what you're doing on "such a special day." Hm, we think we'll spend it sitting in front of a satin curtain blathering nonsensically to a camera about how great our lives are and, generally, nothing in particular. Isn't this fun?!

Bruce Springsteen Totally Angling for an Inauguration Gig

"Oh, that? It's just my Hopemonger Hypno-Lamp."

The Boss performed “Working on a Dream” while campaigning for Barack Obama, and the song's lyrics, appropriately enough for an unresolved race, are inspirational and vague: “Though sometimes it feels so far away / I'm working on a dream / I know it will be mine someday.” But even if that dream has come to pass, the freely downloadable title track from his album due in January is probably better for not being about Obama's Cabinet choices and search for a hypoallergenic dog. It's not “Born to Run” or even “The Rising,” but Springsteen delivers some of his sweetest vocals in the uplifting chorus, and he even whistles.

Madonna and A-Rod’s Imaginary Thanksgiving

Left: Alex and Cynthia Rodriguez with their daughters (both of whom have the middle name Alexander — wtf?) in Miami Tuesday night. Right, Madonna, Ingrid Casares, and Guy Oseary in 2005.

[Our one-act is split between two locations in Miami Beach: the formal dining room of Cynthia Rodriguez's home, where A-Rod and Cynthia are dining with their daughters, and the Florida Room of the Delano Hotel, where a macrobiotic tofurkey dinner has been laid out for Madonna, Ingrid Casares, and Guy Oseary. Madonna just flew down in a private jet with A-Rod, but decided to celebrate with her manager and ex-girlfriend.]

[At Cynthia's.]
Cynthia: Alex, it's nice that you came down here to spend the holiday with the girls, especially after our bitter and much-publicized divorce.
A-Rod: They're 4 years old and zero years old — they're not going to remember it. Still, it's nice to be back here.
Cynthia: Yeah. Even though I basically hate you for leaving me for a sinewy old lady, I kind of feel bad for you being in New York all the time. It's so crazy with all of the media and all the people.
A-Rod: I know, being here reminds me of how easy things used to be. It was so nice and quiet, and it wasn't weird to take your shirt off in public.

[At the Delano.]
Ingrid Casares: Isn't it crazy, all of us being here together, after all these years?
Guy Oseary: We still all look good, at least.
Madonna: Yeah, I was meaning to ask you guys about that. I have to pay a street urchin to punch me in the face every morning to keep it looking puffy and young. Not to mention the Botox, surgery, and Iron Lung. How do you guys do it?
Ingrid Casares: I just try to relax and not get stressed out. I don't know, I think life just moves slower down here.
Guy Oseary: I now am made entirely of corn.

[At Cynthia's.]
Cynthia: I heard Madonna came down here with you.
A-Rod: Yeah. I would never bring her over here. Unless you wanted…
Cynthia: I told you we'd never do that again.
A-Rod: It was worth a shot.
Cynthia: Why are you still seeing her, papi? Your life is only going to get more crazy. And it's going to start affecting your game.
A-Rod: I know, I'd like for things to be simpler. But she's my fucking soul mate, so what can I do? Fuck. Ing. Soul. Mate.

[At the Delano.]
Ingrid Casares: You know, you could raise the kids here, away from all that insanity. It's not that much farther from London.
Guy Oseary: And some great producers are down here.
Madonna: I know, I know. But I've got Alex up there now.
Guy Oseary: You know, I know A-Rod pretty well. I love managing him, but I don't get the appeal. In person, well, he's almost purple.

[At Cynthia's.]
Cynthia: What is it about her, exactly?
A-Rod: She has the most amazing mind and spirit of anyone I have ever met.

[At the Delano.]
Ingrid Casares: What is it about him, exactly?
Madonna: Do you know what it's like to get fucked by a six-foot-three Dominican sex beast?

What’s the Deal With Jon Favreau and Ultimate Fighting?

So we were reading the Times' review of Four Christmases — because our mom wants to see it before we eat Chinese food on December 25 — and we were struck by one random sentence (no, not the one that says the movie's actually kind of entertaining): "Brad’s feral brothers, a pair of semi-professional extreme cage fighters, are Tim McGraw and Jon Favreau." Cagefighting? Really, Favreau? Didn't you learn your lesson when you got your Ultimate Fighting ass kicked on Friends? [NYT]

‘Transporters 3’ Star Jason Statham on Fighting a Dozen Guys While Stripping

Steven Seagal continues to find work in straight-to-video productions wherein bad guys standing near him fling themselves through plate-glass windows, while fellow throat-puncher Jean-Claude Van Damme looks to reinvent himself in the recently released JCVD. It's Jason Statham, though, who has inherited the go-to status as the gruffly charismatic star of various gritty, hand-to-hand-combat action flicks, cracking skulls in movies like Crank, Chaos, War and Death Race. His latest film is Transporter 3, in which he reprises his role as Frank Martin, a high-end, black-market courier who gets mixed up in various no-good situations. Sharply dressed in just the sort of fancy-man duds that inspire thoughts of an action scene breaking out at any time, Statham spoke with Vulture recently about his unlikely path to acting, the enigmatic possible sequel to The Italian Job, and being attacked with an ax.

Was the success of the first Transporter, particularly on DVD, a surprise to you?
You know what, I'm so naïve to what people want that I was just jumping up and down at the opportunity to do something like this. Now here's me trying to throw myself out of a plane and fight ten guys — I love all that. I didn't care if the movie sucked or was good. I knew it would be good because anything that Luc [Besson] puts his magic wand to usually has a certain standard. Then again, having said that, you don't know if there's an audience for me. They could say, "Yeah, we liked the movie okay, but the bald-headed guy sucked."

I know Corey Yuen’s back to handle the action scenes again, but you weren't attacked with an ax in this film, as in the first two. I kept waiting for the other ax to drop.
I thought that some of the fight sequences in the first one were much better, you know? We had a little bit more prep time, and on the second film, we were up against it when we got to Miami. We had hurricanes and got a bit shortchanged on the time. But no ax sequence this time — who said we were repetitive! [Laughs]

What sort of action should we expect this time, then?
I'm fighting ten guys in a garage, and then there's the scene where I'm doing some sort of twisted striptease while trying to beat up a dozen thugs. It's quite comical, almost.

That was one for the ladies. You're also a former British National Team diver, so how was filming the movie's underwater sequence?
That was a bit of a bastard, that sequence, because we lost a location for some reason, and so next thing you know, you have one night to shoot this sequence, and it's like, Really? We had a couple cameras that didn't arrive, so we were left with this big, monstrous thing that they film underwater documentaries with. It was 200 pounds, and they couldn't really move it fast enough to get some of the camera moves that we wanted. So that was a difficult day — maybe the most difficult part of the entire thing. But the water, to me, is a piece of cake, it's almost like I've got gills anyway.

Was mixed martial arts something you were into before becoming an actor?
Listen, I've always liked boxing, I've always liked kickboxing, K1, Pride Fighting, UFC, men's Pancrase [hybrid wrestling] from Japan. They're all fantastic events to see, and I've always had a great interest in them. It's completely different than what we do in the movies. We're doing ridiculous stuff, and they're doing practical stuff in a fighting environment. So it's a little bit more stylized, what we do, and a little bit less dangerous.

You've had a pretty unusual path to acting, haven't you?
Hey, it's nice to have a dream and a goal in life, but, yeah, I just didn't see it, I really didn't. I was working on the street selling perfume and jewelry, and to fantasize about working in action movies in Hollywood didn't make sense to me. I'm more of a realist. But I was lucky enough to get that leg up. Then I knuckled down and took it seriously.

On IMDb, an announcement of Italian Job sequel, The Brazilian Job, has lingered for five years now. Can you tell us if it is being made or not?
The sad part about it is that we'd all like to do it. I'm sure Seth [Green] would, I would, Mos Def. Guys like to work, don't they? Actually, I'm sure Charlize [Theron] would too — we had a good time making that film. It's sad, whatever is creating the stickiness to getting that off the ground. But no one's gotten an offer yet, though I know there's a script that's been floating around for quite some time.

A film that is happening, though, is The Expendables, with Sylvester Stallone and Jet Li.
I'm doing that next year sometime. I'm happy to be alongside someone like Stallone — he's a great guy. He's written it, he's directing it, and he's going to star in it. There are talks of shooting in Costa Rica, or somewhere like that.

Leitch: Who Says LeBron Wants Anything to Do With the Knicks?

Since LeBron James was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers as the first overall pick of the 2003 NBA Draft, the question has not been, “When will he win his first title?” but “When is he leaving Cleveland?” 30 Rock’s “flee to the Cleve” plea aside, this is bizarre. If Cleveland is such an NBA backwater, why does it have a team at all? Why does Oklahoma City? Or Portland? Or Toronto?

The Knicks’ shockingly abrupt trades last Friday — shuffling off the only two guys they had who could score for cap space — cleared the deck for them to at least make a run at LeBron James in two years. And as Stephen A. Smith and his ilk will tell you, James is not the only major free agent who'll be available then. There's Chris Bosh, Steve Nash, Dwayne Wade, and Yao Ming. Heck, even Shaq might be hanging around, if he’s not too busy bringing evildoers to justice. The Knicks can aim for two of those guys, maybe even more. Donnie Walsh has done what he set out to do: cleared out most of Isiah Thomas’s mess. (Eddy Curry is still hanging around, but there’s time to reckon with him.) Walsh can now offer LeBron a maximum contract. That’s impressive, and should be commended.

But — and no offense to Knicks fans — so what? The Cavaliers can not only offer LeBron more money in two years than the Knicks can — they can offer him a better team. In case you haven’t noticed, the Cavs currently have the third-best record in the NBA. In fact, the Knicks can barely offer a team at all. They have four players under contract for 2010: Curry (gone as soon as the Knicks can pull it off), Jared Jeffries (ditto), Wilson Chandler, and Danilo Gallinari. That’s it. Since they drafted LeBron, the Cavs have worked to put quality players around him. The Knicks are settling for live bodies. On a franchise basis, it doesn’t matter whether Mike D’Antoni coaches the most fun system on earth; the Cavaliers are light-years ahead of the Knicks.

And the notion that New York is an infinitely more lucrative city to play in is an accepted maxim, but for superstars in a globalized marketplace, it’s a theory that’s never been submitted to much scrutiny. LeBron James is a global icon. To get into the New York market, Nike may compensate for whatever the Knicks can't pay him. But how much more money, overall, could he really make if he came here?

Certainly, LeBron’s handlers love spreading the idea that he’s just itching to get out of Cleveland. And maybe he is. But it's still a year and a half until any of this matters, and to think we can know the specific circumstances that will surround LeBron James and the Knicks in 2010 is insane. But talking about it sure beats watching the Knicks actually play, right?

Mixed blessings for Broadway actors

Front Page: Long runs mean job security, a creative drain -- The phrases "Broadway actor" and "job security" don't usually go together. While landing a job in a hit show is a stage actor's dream, appearing in a long-running show is a mixed blessing. It provides a year or two of economic stability, which is always welcome, especially in these tough times.

Sessilee and Kanye Sitting in a Tree…

Looks like Sessilee Lopez has caught herself a new beau. After Kanye West handpicked the rising star for his "Flashing Lights" music video, the Sun reports that the two "have spent a lot of time together recently as Kanye has invited her along to numerous parties. They’ve also spent some down time together." The pairing isn't surprising — after all, Kanye is the fashionphile and Sessilee a rising runway star. She walked Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg, Karl Lagerfeld, Lanvin, and more at the spring shows. Wouldn't it be great if some awkward backstage conversations happened? Oh stars and models, they really aren't just like us.

Obama Keeps Robert Gates on at Pentagon, Gratifying Conservative Bloggers

As we wrote earlier, Barack Obama has reportedly asked current Defense secretary Robert Gates to stay on in the Obama administration. The decision comes as no surprise, however: Obama promised to put at least one Republican in his Cabinet, and Gates had been mentioned as a possibility for months. And, like most of Obama's appointments to date, this one is being described as a sensible, pragmatic move. The only complaint, really, is that keeping Bush's secretary of Defense isn't the "change" Obama promised — although in a way it is, because no president has ever kept the Defense secretary from the administration of an opposing party.

• Ben Smith finds plenty of "logic" in the move: "It puts a Republican, as promised, in a top slot; it prevents Obama from taking the blame, immediately, for whatever happens in Iraq; and it's probably good for his relationship with the uniformed military." And the fact that anti-war Obama has kept Bush's Defense secretary may say as much about "how different Gates is from Rumsfeld as about any change in the president-elect." [Politico]

• Greg Sargent posits that "in one sense the economic meltdown made this key decision easier," because "the relentless focus on the economic crisis has to some degree reduced the intensity of attention being paid to the critical national security decisions that lie ahead." It also "allows for the argument that it makes sense to preserve temporary continuity at the Pentagon in order to enable the incoming President to devote his full attention to the fixing [of] the economy." [Talking Points Memo]

• Steve Benen writes that, while initially this could seem "more than a little discouraging for Democrats," actually there's "ample evidence that Gates is exactly who Obama needs at the Pentagon right now." Gates is not a neocon; he's a "non-ideological pragmatist" who should "bring a degree of steadiness and consistency that may benefit Obama enormously." [Political Animal/Washington Monthly]

• Victor Davis Hanson welcomes the appointment, saying Gates has "provided stable, sober leadership during two wars, and overseen dramatic improvement with the Petraeus surge." But he also wonders whether "these centrist appointments" will "undermine the hope and change mantra." [National Review]

• Peter Baker and Thom Shanker write that "Obama put aside concerns that he would send a jarring signal after a political campaign in which he made opposition to the war his signature issue in the early days." Some of Obama's advisers "quietly complained that he was undercutting his own message and risked alienating war critics who formed his initial base of support," but others "argued that Mr. Gates was a practical public servant who was also interested in drawing down troops in Iraq when conditions allow." [NYT]

• Matthew Yglesias thinks "it’s very possible to overstate the notion that keeping Gates on is in tension with Obama’s record of opposition to the invasion of Iraq." After all, "Obama has long hinted around at admiration for the realpolitik of the Powell/Scowcroft school of Republicans" who viewed Bush's war skeptically. [Think Progress]

• Brent Budowsky feels he "must dissent," noting that at "one of the defining moments in history, Bob Gates was horrendously wrong and his judgment, knowledge and advice was horrendously bad." The moment he refers to is Ronald Reagan's talks with Mikhail Gorbachev, which Gates opposed. Budowsky also fears "this presages a longer American military commitment in Iraq than was discussed during the campaign." [Pundits Blog/Hill]

• Max Boot admits that he "was skeptical of Obama’s moderate posturing during the campaign," but now finds himself "gobsmacked by these appointments, most of which could just as easily have come from a President McCain." Obama's entire national-security team is "stunning in its moderation." It's fair to say that "his administration already far exceeds expectations, and he hasn’t even taken office yet." [Contentions/Commentary]

Steve Guttenberg Explains Why Hollywood Stopped Making Original Movies Fifteen Years Ago

"I turned down Short Circuit 2 too and I now wish I hadn't. Sequels are a lot of fun and you get to hang out with all your friends." Steve Guttenberg [Sun UK]

"The problem is, they don't look any different at the moment from when Trainspotting was made, to be absolutely honest. They look exactly the same. They're a little heavier, but they basically look the same. Actors stay suspended in that timeless moment where they're moisturizing and looking after themselves and making sure they keep fit and healthy, because it's their work, it's their future employment. But when time ravages them, we will be waiting for them." Danny Boyle is waiting for middle age to really show before he makes a sequel to Trainspotting [A.V. Club]

"If we don't get it right it's really, really going to suck." Robert Downey, Jr. is inspiring a lot of confidence in The Avengers movie [Splash Page/MTV]

"I play a music mogul, like a Phil Spector, who takes drugs, has orgies, threatens people with knives and guns. It's a great part." Dennis Hopper on his role in the Starz TV series Crash [CinemaBlend]

"I was on set with Brandon and shooting the sequence where he acts incredibly gay. At one point I was like, 'Hey man, I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth but doesn't Warner Bros. have some sort of moral clause? I mean, you played Superman! Are you really allowed to do this?'" Sarah Jessica Parker Is Looking for a New Home for Her Clothing Line

Less than five months after its first bankruptcy filing, Steve & Barry’s filed for bankruptcy again earlier this month. The store plans to liquidate, leaving Sarah Jessica Parker to find a new home for her Bitten line. She told us last night at the New York City Ballet's opening-night celebration that she's actively seeking a new retail partner. “We have a lot of home offers," Parker said. "We have to make sure that any partner we enter into an agreement with wants the same thing for the brand as we do, which is to serve the customer first. You know, it can’t be about commerce, it has to be about the customer, and we have to see who’s really willing to be that generous.” She said she wants to continue the brand's original mission of offering affordable clothing. "Now, more than ever, people need all things that are about economy," she continued. "So I want very much to continue it in the right way. So we just have to figure out what’s right for the customer, and how to do it in these economic times.” Ain't that the truth.

Fox’s ‘Shame Shame Shame’ of Richard Fuld Is Pretty Shameful

The irony of Fox's "Shame, Shame, Shame" videos, in which they ambush "people who are involved in potentially shady dealings" and attempt to shame them, is that they usually just make you end up feeling sorry for the subjects and ashamed for Fox. Take this video in which Fox's Arnold Diaz rolls up in front of Richard Fuld's Greenwich mansion in a leather trench coat and demands "answers" about the collapse of Lehman Brothers from Fuld's concerned-looking butler, who eventually calls the cops. "You're on private property," the cop says. "I know," Diaz replies meekly. Thus defeated, he is forced to round up a bunch of Lehman employees with all of the credibility of car-accident whiplash victims to tell him about how Fuld ruined their lives and, more important, how he should fix it: "I don't know how he could go on national TV and say he's all broken up about his employees when he knows he could write one simple check and fix all of us that were laid off, in one simple motion," one woman says. "You know. One of his bonuses could cover us. Half of one of his bonuses could cover us. It's outrageous." Yeah. Could it be that this lady is having trouble getting re-employed in finance because she doesn't understand capitalism?

Humane Society Sues Over ‘Pseudo’ Faux Fur

A coat by Andrew Marc.

The Humane Society is suing Dillard's, Lord & Taylor, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Saks, and the parent company of Andrew Marc for allegedly mislabeling faux-fur items. They say the stores sold coats that were labeled as faux fur when the actually contained real fur. The Humane Society says over three years it purchased the offending items and found that twelve contained real fur when they were labeled fake. An independent tester concluded that a coat purchased from Neiman Marcus in 2007 contained real rabbit fur, for example.

This is all very strange. First, we didn't know the Humane Society devoted so much time to this (doesn't PETA do enough?). Second, we're not ones to dispute science, but why on earth would they sell real fur as fake fur when real fur costs so much more money? You know, that stuff we had a lot more of two or three years ago. The retailers are evaluating the claims before they comment.

Jessica Stam Is Having Boy Trouble

Supermodel Jessica Stam, whose face has an alien sheen, is dating the son of eighties pop guy Huey Lewis, who is facing jail time on pot-possession charges and for doing graffiti on West Fourth Street. So it's complicated, with her all, like, "If this is it, please let me know," and him just like, "I want a new drug that won't hurt my head." Britney Spears will have a circus-themed 27th-birthday bash at Tenjune on Tuesday to coincide with that day's release of her new album, Circus. And also, she blames her little sons' saying the F-word and misbehaving in preschool on their father, and recently had a date with a guy who was "an older version of Harry Potter, but skinnier." Giants guys Reuben Droughns and Danny Ware and Jets guys Darrelle Revis and David Clowney have been going to the Murray Hill bar the Hill to watch Monday Night Football. Heath Ledger's sad end will be ripped off in an upcoming Law & Order episode.

Madonna and Guy's breakup is probably going to be hard on their three kids and may damage them, maybe especially the little one they purchased in Africa. Natalie Portman couldn't play Amy Adams's young-nun role in the new movie of Doubt because "she didn't understand celibacy."

Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal's parents are both broken-up and broke. Baz Luhrmann shot many endings for Australia, including one where Nicole Kidman simultaneously becomes a boy-raping news anchorwoman and dies of TB while singing. Ashlee Simpson's name was misspelled "Ashley" on the cover of OK!, meaning that a copyeditor will likely be the last new Gitmo prisoner before Obama comes into office.

Now that Scrubs is finishing up, Zach Braff wants to make a movie about an American Jew who visits Israel. Claymation TV characters Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt got married in real life.

David Archuleta Massacres David Cook on Albums Chart

The numbers are in! Last Wednesday, rightful American Idol winner David Archuleta posted first-week sales of 183,000 for his masterful debut record David Archuleta, landing the coveted No. 2 position on the Billboard 200. This morning it was announced that David Cook, Archuleta's balder, pitchier nemesis, managed to unload 280,000 copies of his new CD last week, which was only good enough for an abysmal No. 3 placement on today's chart — embarrassing! Al Qaeda Eyeing NYC Subways

The FBI has received a "plausible but unsubstantiated" report that Al Qaeda had some discussions in September about attacking our subway system. We understand why the government shares this information with the public, but for ourselves, we'd rather just not know. It's bad enough wondering what's up on those random days where there are mysteriously ton of cops in every subway station. It's worse to know that next time this happens, it's definitely not a "dry run." [AP]

Michael Cera to Star in ‘Paper Hearts,’ the World’s Best Movie

Ask anyone what film they're most looking forward to next year and they'll probably tell you Watchmen or Inglourious Basterds or some other crap. Why? Because they've not yet heard of Paper Hearts, the top-secret new Michael Cera movie debuting at January's Sundance Film Festival. According to The Hollywood Reporter today, Hearts' makers are trying to keep it under wraps — it's not even on IMDb! — in hopes that it might take the fest by surprise, like Napoleon Dynamite did in 2005. "Any movie that's going to be touted too much will have a bull's-eye on its back," says one of HR's sources. Still, though, if the film's anywhere near as good as its stealth marketing campaign implies, can there be any doubt that Paper Hearts will surpass The Dark Knight's box-office gross on its way to next year's Academy Award for Best Picture?

According to HR, Hearts — directed by newcomer Nicholas Jasenovec — is a "part-documentary, part-scripted comedy" about the relationship between Cera and Charlyne Yi, his real-life girlfriend (who played Jodi in Knocked Up). Presumably Cera will play another dolt who bumbles his way into an awkward sexual encounter, and the soundtrack will feature indie rock of some variety. Sounds awesome to us!
