Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 5 Nov 2008 | 11:40 am "I'll be relying on Ekta & Shobha Aunty to guide me in my film career" - Prachi DesaiOne hit young and Prachi Desai is already in a controversy. First she's said to have miffed her mentor Ekta Kapoor by refusing to do her film. Now it's the Bhatts whom Prachi politely turned down, opting out of their much talked-about Jashn. Apparently, Abbas-Mustan who are working with Prachi on her second film Life Partner (with Tusshar Kapoor) have the actress contractually bound to ensure theirs is her second release. Disarming in her honesty, Prachi doesn't beat around the bush regarding the embarrassing cul de sac. "It's true I'm out of Jashan. I really wanted to work with the Bhatts who have done such wonderful work with Kangna and other girls. I said yes thinking the dates that were with Abbas-Mustan could be adjusted. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. Fortunately the Bhatts aren't upset with me. We'll work together again very soon." As for the supposed differences with her godmother Ekta Kapoor, Prachi is cool, "Ekta, her mom Shobha Aunty and I are too close for people to try and spoil our relationship. We don't only share an actress-producer bonding. I'm like a daughter in their family. And Shobha Aunty is as concerned about my film career. She advised me to wait until the release of Rock On before signing any new films. I'll always be relying on Ekta and Shobha Aunty to guide me through my film career." Prachi doesn't flinch from admitting she declined a film offer from Balaji. "They had spoken to me about a film. But we hadn't signed a contract or anything. Like I said, Shobha Aunty and Ekta have told me to do what is best for my career. When I left their serial Kkasam Se, it was a heart-wrenching decision for me. I had become a part of the Balaji family and I was moving into an area where I had no experience at all. Luckily, Ekta encouraged me to do Rock On, although the role was that of a wife and mother-to-be and I had to play a woman older than I am. But then in Kkasam Se, I played a wife and a bahu. So I guess those years of experience came in handy when I finally did my first film." After Rajeev Khandelwal in Aamir, Prachi is the second Balaji breakaway actor to make it big in films. "What Kkasam Se did for me in 2 ½ years, Rock On has done in 2 ½ hours. People used to say they wanted a bahu like Bani. Now they're saying they want a wife life Sakshi in Rock On. Farhan and Ritesh Sidwani's company used to get hatemail when they signed me on for their film. People were so upset because they felt a film career was taking me away from television." Prachi is now done with television. "Going into films was a big risk. I was playing a character I knew little about. I was moving from one medium to another and also to an audience from a different age group. But I had age on my side. Even if I had failed there was enough time to make corrections. I'm so glad Rock On worked." She credits the reality show 'Jhalak Dikhla Ja' with creating a bridge between TV and cinema. "The reality show allowed me to be more myself. After being the weepy Bahu and playing a woman between 30 and 40 for so long I had fun dancing. I think Jhalak... got me Rock On." Today, Prachi has made her parents proud. "When as child I'd say I wanted to be an actress, they didn't take me seriously. At last the people around me are taking me seriously."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 5 Nov 2008 | 11:20 am Filmmaker B R Chopra deadMUMBAI (Reuters) - Veteran Bollywood filmmaker B R Chopra, best known for bringing the Hindu epic Mahabharat to television, died in Mumbai on Wednesday, his publicist said.Source: Reuters: Bollywood News | 5 Nov 2008 | 11:18 am Amul celebrates the 'Rock On' MagikThe cast and crew of Farhan Akhtar's debut film as an actor, Rock On, continues to celebrate the success of the film even two months after the film's release. In fact, recently the band members of 'Magik' namely Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Luke Kenny and Purab Kohli even performed at the 'Rock On for Humanity' concert in aid for children affected by the Bihar floods. It is indeed amazing how much the first Hindi film made on a rock band has caught on with both the masses and the classes. Now Amul, known for not just its delicious butter, but also its topical and witty hoardings has decided to capitalize on the Rock On magic in its new hoarding. The billboards show caricatures of the Rock On band members enjoying a slice of yummy bread butter and the Rock On logo has been coolly replaced by 'Amul On'! Must say, this cute yet funny hoarding would surely bring a smile even on the faces of Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli and Luke Kenny.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 5 Nov 2008 | 11:13 am B.R. It's a hit, and to celebrate the films success, UTV, Madhur Bhandarkar and his three glamorous actresses - Priyanka, Mugdha and Kangna are heading to Taj Lands End in Mumbai today. Now this will be one hell of a party where you'll see the 'Page 3' elites, the corporate giants and the who's who from the modelling world attend a night filled with a lot of panache. Just hours before the night out, we spoke with Madhur to congratulate him on his stupendous success. He sounds excited, "Thank you so much. I am so pleased that the audiences have loved my first big commercial film. Fashion is the biggest film of my career yet and the stakes were high. At the multiplexes across India, it is going super-strong and has also been critically acclaimed. I can't ask for more." Even before the film was released, Fashion was hailed as Priyanka's best ever performance and now that she has given one, does her director think the same? "Priyanka has herself stated in interviews that Fashion is her best ever role. I am sure the film will fetch her the Best Actress Award at the award functions next year. But I am also pleased with the way Kangna and Mugdha have performed. Credit has to be given to them too," replies Madhur. Reports are pouring in from the critics who have also criticised the film by saying that Madhur Bhandarkar films almost look like sequels to each other. But Bhandarkar clears the air, "From Chandni Bar to Page 3 to Corporate to Fashion, I have used a different premise in all my films. But because there are a few scenes which look the same, critics think that all my films look the same. I love having competition with myself when I am compared with my own films. It's better than be compared to any Hollywood film. Tomorrow if I put a camera in a bar, people will say it's like Chandni Bar, if I put a camera on the streets, they'll say it's like Traffic Signal. So what do I do?" On a serious note, does Madhur really intend to make a sequel to Fashion? He states clearly, "People have always told me and have dropped in comments that I should make a sequel to Corporate, Page 3 and Chandni Bar but I am not so keen on making sequels as I like my films to end on a particular note. The sequel to Fashion is out of question." Besides direction, Madhur loves facing the camera too, right from his Rangeela days. What say director? "It was Mr Ram Gopal Varma and Jackie Shroff who forced me to do the cameo as an assistant director in Rangeela. The film was a huge hit and now I am doing a cameo in Fashion and it's a hit again. So the formula is working. I've made many of my crew members act in my previous films. So this time they all forced me to do a cameo." The overseas reports too are coming in left, right and centre and even though the film isn't a big box office success compared to the East, it's making its way to the top by word of mouth. Madhur has no complaints. "The kind of response I've got from the U.K, U.S, Gulf and Australia is unbelievable. It feels great. This is the first time I've gone through a bigger spectrum. Never before I have got so much response to my films from these countries. Even the songs of Fashion are chartbusters in the U.K. People have accepted Fashion in the overseas and it makes me proud." With so much said and done about Fashion, it's time to ask Madhur about the best compliment he has received so far. Looks like it's very difficult for Madhur to recall one from the hundreds he's been getting every second. "Who so ever has seen Fashion has said that it is my careers best movie. A lot of people said that I have surpassed myself with Fashion. Karan Johar hasn't seen the film yet but Vipul Shah has and he loved it". So as I was about to end the above paragraph, Mugdha Godse calls. Running out of breath, she goes on, "I am in the gym trying to shed more pounds for today's party", she humorously comments, and in the same breath answers, "I am really looking forward to this party today at the Taj Lands End because it is my first success party I am attending. I hope I don't get too emotional, that's the only worry. The entire cast and crew of the film will be there and it'll be the last time we all will be seeing each other together tonight." Well, I am certain that tonight at the Taj Lands End, fashion will never remain out of style. In fact, it was in fashion yesterday, it is the rage today and it will set the pace tomorrow.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 5 Nov 2008 | 10:38 am Priyanka Chopra's Dostana with Verve - Oneindia

In the times when money is termed sexier than sex, EMI (Easy Monthly Installments) comes with all the solutions to it. Produced by Anna, as he is fondly called, EMI is a laugh riot with a message. It would be something of an understatement to say that Suneil Shetty, Bollywood star of almost two decades now, has not had the best of years. Yet as the businessman turned actor turned producer chats with me, he talks straight and makes sense and clearly anxious to put behind him, what he calls "all that other crap" that took place in the media about him and his co-star friend Sanjay Dutt. Suniel is trying to look forward, concentrating on promoting his second film as a producer, EMI, referring to the recent above events as "just peripheral stuff that happens to people". Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel spoke to the busy man where he gave us a lowdown on his film, the underlying message to the readers, his intentions on becoming a director and why the Hindi Film Industry is going through its worst phase ever. Is it right for me to say that in the world economic crisis, EMI is the only way out this year end? (laughs) Definitely yes. But on the serious side, I'd say unfortunate because the scenario is pretty much dead the world over. From a producer and the film's point of view, there couldn't have been a better time for EMI to release. There couldn't have been a better time for EMI to release So what made you produce EMI? The new director, the story or your close friend Sanjay Dutt? It will always be the story of EMI which impressed me because it covered people from all walks of life. The story has a problem that I always saw rising in India. We have a tendency to follow the western culture and with the credit card companies coming in, people didn't forecast the impact of what would happen if they tried using their credit cards. It was this subject that really inspired me the most. EMI also made a great commercial sense because it had a character called Sattarbhai who works as the recovery agent for the bank which was very interesting. That's when I thought and decided that if Sanju could hear and liked it, we'd probably go ahead with the film. Sanju loved the script instantly and we started shooting ten days after he heard the script. EMI, Easy Monthly Installments is a serious issue off screen. Do you think the film is looking at it not so seriously? No it's not. The promos the film might look not so serious and the viewer might think there is a lot of humour to it. Sanju plays Sattarbhai who initially tries to recover the money by bashing up people but slowly understands that there is a whole lot of a serious issue to it than what it looks from the outside. When you get into the house, you realise the problems that a particular family is having and if there could be a solution offered to their problem it could help them. So more than the bank, it is Sattarbhai who understands them and comes out with an answer to it. The film has a very happy ending too. So there is an underlying message to the film. Absolutely yes and that's why I am producing this film. I want to say that the penultimate fifteen minutes of the film will make people appreciate EMI. But why Sanjay Dutt for Sattarbhai? When Saurabh Kabra, the director, narrated me the character called Sattarbhai, the only image in my head going through was that of Sanjay Dutt who is larger than life and all heart. There was nobody I could've thought of except him when it came to Sattarbhai. After Munnbhai, Sanju's soft side was loved by people. So I hope people love him in EMI too. You've always been the most successful businessman cum actor in the industry. Does that make you the jack of all trades? If you say so, Yes (laughs). But an actor first, then a producer and then a businessman. It's purely because of my branding as an actor that people know me, believe in me and do business with me. Fortunately for me, I did my B.Com, then my Hotel Management. So somewhere down the line, it has only helped me. That's why I also strongly believe that whatever profession you end up with, it is very crucial to educate yourself and you'll see the world open in front of you. Then why aren't we going to see Suneil Shetty act in EMI? I've been wanting to keep production and acting completely separate from each other. I share a very good rapport with a lot of my co-actors and I don't want them to feel that I take care of my role more and my promotion more than them if it's my own production house. It's very difficult to juggle between two roles. It's easy when I'm a producer where I can go spend more time on the sets and on the edit table and can be more creative. After Munnbhai, Sanju's soft side was loved by people. So I hope people love him in EMI too With so many feathers in your cap, is direction looking likely in the years to come? I would love to direct a film one day. But because there are so many tracks running simultaneously with me, I feel it is easier to sit with a director and work on the film rather than make one myself for the time being. Tell a bit more about the different characters in EMI. Ashish Chowdhary and Neha Uberoi represent the young couple who are in love and want to get married because they believe that the world is a beautiful place where both of them are making money. They now want a house on EMI, car on EMI and everything on the credit card. It gets difficult after a while and that's what they both go through. Then there is a story of a new boy, Pushkar, who wants to go to London to study and the father does not have money but also believes that if he does not do it now, his son will blame him for the rest of his life. And when he does manage to come back from the lush green outskirts of London, he wants to then become a photographer. So how will the EMI be paid? Then there is Urmila's character who has a high flying husband who thinks that he can conquer the world. But when he can't match up the pressure, he ends up killing himself and how she as a widow takes care of her daughter and the EMI. And lastly, there is Arjun Rampal and Mallaika Arora who get hooked on by the EMI. So there is a lot of diversity in this film. Is it an intentional move on your part to release the film after Diwali, just the right time when people start paying off their EMI's after the Diwali expenses? Yes. That's the period when people flash their credit cards and use it more. Diwali is the time of buying, spending and after it's over the people don't realise that how will they pay their monthly credit card statements. This film will also teach them the right use of the credit card and the wrong use of it. Have you ever misused your credit card? Not really. I've lived within my means but the thing is that you've always got a sword of EMI hanging on top of you whether it's for your tax benefits or taking money on interest. You do get stuck in situations like that but so far I've managed it. I come from a simple background and even from a company point of view; I know that there is recession world wide. I know the industry is going through a lot but somewhere down the line I know what my role is, that of the content provider. So I didn't jump the gun and played it safe. All you wanted to know about EMI What makes you say that the Hindi Film Industry is going through a dull phase right now? Because majority of the films aren't doing well. There is no buying in the market and there are only three or four companies that are buying. So each one has to pull up their socks and believe that if they deliver the right script, then only will it work for them. I think the next six months is definitely going to prove what I'm saying right now. These so called figures like eighty, ninety and hundred crores won't exist. Somewhere there'll be a reality check. There will be smaller risks taken for the next two to three years till things get stable. But yes, if the share market picks up, there will be money. After coming out of the prison, Sanjay Dutt first shot for EMI. Did his personal grievances come in play while filming? As a matter of fact, I got to know the real Sanjay Dutt only during that period when he was going through a low phase and then when he was arrested. When the first letter that came to me from Sanju said, 'I'm sorry Anna. I wanted to start and complete the film but I don't think I have kept my word. I don't know when I'll be out. If you believe you need to take someone else, go ahead and complete the film. I don't want Popcorn to suffer." That was one of the most touching letters sent to me ever. That's why I believe that the industry calls him 'baba' only because he is all heart. He does first and then thinks, which has also got him in a lot of mess. Sanju has such a huge fan following only because of the way his well wishers feel for him and how much they love and miss him. These so called figures like eighty, ninety and hundred crores won't exist. Somewhere there'll be a reality check So what's next in the pipeline for you Anna? After EMI, from Popcorn, I've got a film called A little Godfather which is about the Mumbai train blasts that took place and what happened to the kids who do their daily business in and out of the train selling things. It's a very emotional film. Then I've got Mumbai Chak-a-Chak which is a story about a man's obsession about cleanliness and how he wants to see his Mumbai clean. As an actor I've got this lovely film by Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria's next called Daddy Cool. Any message you want to give to those who are or are not in an EMI mess after Diwali? Watch EMI very closely because somewhere down the line each and everyone of us will relate to the eight or ten characters we have in the film. So rather than getting depressed, if we realise our mistakes through this film and get the message right, you'll enjoy the film.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 5 Nov 2008 | 7:30 am "I now want to do an action film with stunts of international caliber" - GovindaGovinda is about to switch lanes, drastically. Having made a career out of comic roles, he's for the moment bidding adieu to laughter to embrace action. The preparation has started in all seriousness. Govinda has got himself a martial arts and physical trainer and is working on his physique and agility. Says the comic virtuoso, "I've done action films in the past like Hatya and Shola Aur Shabnam. But they weren't full-on actioners. I now want to do an action film with stunts of an international caliber. I don't want to just plunge into it without being fully prepared. I've already lost a lot of weight. But it isn't enough. I want to lose some more." On a recent trip to London, Govinda discovered yoga. Govinda's life -style has changed completely. Thanks to yoga. And though he doesn't admit it, it was Celina Jaitley who introduced him to a new lifestyle. Says Govinda, "Yoga has changed my life. No matter what my schedule, I've to do yoga every morning. I feel the difference within me. It's not about just losing weight. I lost a lot of weight earlier this year when I was shooting in Bangkok with Suniel Shetty for Loot. Yoga is about self-discipline, about toning the body. I feel myself losing inches around my waist. I fill fitter. I can get into tight clothes without cringing." Govinda's target? "To look as healthy handsome and fit as Dharamji did in his heydays. He has always been my role model. And now when I look at myself in the mirror I see glimpses of him in myself. That makes me feel really good."
