Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 21 Oct 2008 | 4:21 pm Yash Chopra honoured by The Hollywood ReporterYash Chopra was honoured by the renowned 'Hollywood Reporter' magazine at a function held on October 14, 2008 at Taj Land's End, Mumbai. He was felicitated for his invaluable contribution to Indian Cinema and the impact created by Yash Raj Films in business in the US. This reception was held to celebrate The Nielsen Impact Awards, an international recognition of individuals who have significantly influenced the global media landscape. Katherine Oliver, the Commissioner of the New York City Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting was also present to honour this event, along with leading luminaries from the Indian film fraternity. In 2004, Hollywood Reporter had carried a survey on the "Biggest Film Distribution Houses" in the world in which Yash Raj Films was listed as the 27th in the world, making it thereby, the No.1 Film Distribution House in India. The Hollywood Reporter is Hollywood's first daily entertainment trade paper and is relied by entertainment executives around the world for the most comprehensive and up-to-the-minute analysis of the entertainment business.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 21 Oct 2008 | 4:17 pm Ajay, Arshad, Tusshar and Shreyas turn cross-dressers in Golmaal ReturnsGovinda started it; Aamir Khan and Riteish Deshmukh followed it and now its latest 'followers' are Shreyas, Tusshar, Ajay and Arshad! Before you start 'cult'ivating any sorts of ideas, let us clarify that we are indeed not talking of any cult, but the trend of 'cross dressing'. The four leading actors of the Golmaal Returns will now bee seen cross dressing as women folks! The reason? Well, there's a scene in the film that required these guys to dress up like women only in order to gain an entry in an 'only women' mall, since the eve was Women's Day! Recalling this scene, Rohit Shetty said, "I was quite taken aback when Ajay Devgan agreed to this scene in particular. He was very gung-ho to go ahead with the scene!! In fact, none of the guys had any reservations, which made it one of the best scenes in the film." As such, Golmaal Returns is carrying positive pre-release reports. If that was not enough, director Rohit Shetty is 'releasing' his trump cards one after the other, which only makes us further more curious to see the film. Way to go, Rohit!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 21 Oct 2008 | 3:47 pm Ed Norton explains Fight Club mystery
Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 21 Oct 2008 | 3:21 pm Deepika Padukone graces the cover of GraziaYou have always heard them say that 'A Diamond is a girl's best friend'. But have you ever wondered that who is a guy's best friend? Well, we cannot speak for others though, but one thing's for sure that if the guy is Ranbir Kapoor, then, his best friend HAS to be Deepika Padukone, who also is the cover-girl for this issue of the fashion magazine Grazia! If looking a thousand bucks means looking beautiful, then, the snaps of Deepika in this issue simply makes her priceless! Maybe, that's why she is justified to the core when she declares that "I charge what I think I am worth and if people are willing to pay me that much, it must mean that they think that I'm worth it too. No one affords risks like investing in actors they don't really believe in." Deepika is one girl, who can glorifyingly justify the term 'Hot Property' with her elegance and persona to match! Lastly, to add a few words of wisdom, let us also tell you that Prakash Padukone, besides being an ace badminton player and also Deepika's proud father, is also the reason as to why she is so much grounded even though at the peak of her career! In her own admission, she says "My father's always told me that fame is temporary and it's not important to dwell on it too much." With those values intact, Deepika surely will climb the ladder of success in this glam world.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 21 Oct 2008 | 3:18 pm Paris Hilton invites Prince William

Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 21 Oct 2008 | 3:06 pm "Fashion is one of the most glamorous films made in Bollywood" - Kangna RanautClick above for more movie stills Kangna Ranaut, for me, is an overnight sensation. Many were jealous to the point of fury when she made her film debut in the Mahesh Bhatt camp, Gangster. Here's another good-looking bit of fluff stealing another prime role. But Kangna proved everyone wrong with her sheer talent. Hers is an extraordinary success story. Has any actor ever been as famous or desired without ever headlining a major picture? Just five films old, she has taken the world of Bollywood by storm. The woman's rise has been meteoric, to say the least. And, given the projects she has in the pipeline, it will only continue. She has not only impressed her director Madhur Bhandarkar but also her senior co-star Priyanka Chopra who says, "I had to prepare a lot physically to look like a model even though I am one but Kangna just slipped into it perfectly. She is the one to look out for in Fashion because it's her best performance to date". Going by the quote, it can be confidently said that this overnight sensation must be in the making over a decade. Bollywood Hungama's London correspondent Devansh Patel gets to know Kangna like she is - moody, confident and straight up in this quick haute couture interview. We've never seen Kangna Ranaut so glamorous before. What say? It's not about me being glamorous. Tomorrow I might play a de-glam girl, then what? But Fashion as a film is so glamorous that you mustn't have seen anything like this before in Bollywood. Fashion as a film is so glamorous that you mustn't have seen anything like this before in Bollywood You've worked the most with the Bhatt camp. How was it to work with the Bhandarkar camp for the first time? Any different? Every director has his own way of presenting their movie and their story. Both Bhandarkar sir and Bhatt sir are good in their own ways. They both put in their own ways and they are just too good. The other two, Priyanka and Mugdha have done professional modelling before. How was it for you to catwalk Kangna? On the sets, there were many people from the fashion industry who helped me a lot. So did Priyanka and Mugdha. Ultimately, it was Madhur sir, my director, who made the final call. So besides the script and I mean, besides the script, what else attracted you towards Fashion? In this script my character is such that you get to express you emotions, emotions that you have never delivered before in front of the camera. So when I heard the script, it was something new and much more challenging, more interesting and exciting. This is also the first time that you are not paired against any of the male lead. Did you miss your man? Male lead does not really make a difference. The film is about these characters. It does not matter to me if any male or female actors are there opposite me. Male lead does not really make a difference The film is now been given an adult rating. Will this hamper the box office results? I don't think so. Because even Life In A Metro was given an "A" certificate. But it does not matter. People see films and enjoy and I anyways don't think kids should watch movies, they should go and study. What have you to say about the drugs scene in the film? These scenes were shown three decades ago in Hare Rama Hare Krishna too. So why such a fuss? They had this whole book of rules and regulations and censor which I don't know why has made such a big deal about drugs? But it will only do good to the society, because we have shown the reality about drugs and I think people and especially youngsters should watch the film and know more about the consequences of drugs. I think people and especially youngsters should watch the film and know more about the consequences of drugs Tell us a bit about your exercise, food and fitness regime you had to undergo for your role in Fashion. Fashion has been a little fluctuating. Since I was playing the role of a supermodel I had to be a bit careful with my diet. I was eating normally but less of carbs. But this is the best I've looked in any film so far. So don't be surprised! There is not a single film where Kangna Ranaut doesn't shed her tears. Will Fashion be any different? No comments on this question of yours. Your films haven't really done well as far as the figures are concerned in the overseas. Do you think Fashion will be your first big commercial hit in the U.K? Yeah, I think so. But to say that my films haven't worked in the U.K can't be right because Life In A Metro had it's lavish premiere in London and it did reasonably well. I am sure that Fashion will impress the critics and audiences in the U.K. What is your style or fashion statement? It basically depends on your state of mind. If you're in a good mood and if you are not wearing something good, you will still be able to carry it off. And if you're not in a good mood, no matter how good the clothes you're wearing, you will not look good. I think the most important thing about what you're wearing is that you should be comfortable with it. The songs of Fashion are climbing up the charts. Which is your favourite song from the film and why? No song is my favourite as such because all the songs depend on the mood and the situation in the movie. Songs of Fashion actually soothes your soul. We all know that the casting couch prevails in the entertainment industry. Do you know of anyone who's gone through this worst experience off screen? I am from the film industry and there is no such thing as casting couch. It does not exist. I do know people who have tried hard to get into the modeling world and the film industry and still have not made it but neither of them has ever gone through it. I want to know who spreads these rumors about casting couch. Even the media gives it hype and spoils the name of the industry. I definitely want to catch hold of this person who thinks he or she knows everything about the casting couch. This is such a big industry and it does not work on exploiting people sexually. It works on hard work and talent. So I really don't know when will people understand this? What is the USP of Fashion? Madhur Bhandarkar of course. It's his best work ever. Another National Award in the making for this great director.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 21 Oct 2008 | 1:31 pm At 77, Shammi Kapoor's zest for life remains undiminishedDuring 1950s and 1960s, when the inimitable Bollywood trinity of Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand was ruling the roost on the Hindi screen - each in his own different way, Shammi Kapoor blazoned across it like a rebel, doing the unconventional with elan and aplomb.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 21 Oct 2008 | 1:02 pm Live Chat: Celina Jaitley on Oct 22 at 1600 hrs ISTThis beautiful actress started out as a model and came into limelight when she won the prestigious Miss India beauty pageant. And while Shah Rukh Khan had shown his six-pack abs in the Om Shanti Om song, Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt have decided to take a 'shortcut' by being fully covered in the number 'Mareez-E-Mohabbat' which would be on air soon. The song has been picturised for Anil Kapoor's home production Shortcut - The Con Is On and features the 'jhakaas' actor with 'munnabhai' Sanju baba. Confirms a source attached to the film which should find a way in theaters early 2009, ''Shortcut - The Con Is On has Akshaye Khanna, Arshad Warsi and Amrita Rao as the three leads. However, Sanjay Dutt and Anil Kapoor would be seen in a guest appearance. The number is called 'Mareez-E-Mohabbat' and who else but Javed (Akhtar) saab could have come up with such lyrics?'' The number features Amrita Rao as well and has been choreographed by Bosco and Ceaser. ''Shooting for the song is through and it has turned out quite well. Sanju baba and Anil Kapoor had a blast dancing to this number, courtesy a catchy tune by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy who have composed for the film. They have done a great job in creating an earthy tune'', says a crew member. Incidentally, Anil Kapoor's last outing as a producer was Gandhi My Father which had received immense critical acclaim in 2007. However, Shortcut is a full on commercial venture and features three more songs in addition to 'Mareez-E-Mohabbat'. While the title track 'Shortcut' is quite peppy, 'Koi Ye Na Jaane' is a fun romantic number while 'Kal Nau Baje' is a poetic love song. ''Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy have come together with Javed saab to make a good album with lot of variety'', adds the source. Shortcut - The Con Is On is directed by Neeraj Vora and also stars Simi Garewal along with Chunkey Pandey. Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 21 Oct 2008 | 9:44 am Mira Nair shoots a bio-pic on Amelia Earhart starring Hillary SwankIt has been a heartbreaking time for Mira Nair. Shantaram with Johnny Depp and Mr Bachchan didn't take off. "And in September when I was offered Amelia, I said no because I was busy with Shantaram. Then Shantaram fell apart. They came back to me with Amelia in January. I never thought I'd be able to switch from my Mumbai mood for Shantaram to this project, having spent one year flying in and out of Mumbai for Shantaram. But then you know these things happen." Mira Nair has now almost wrapped up her bio-pic on Amelia Earhart called Amelia with Hillary Swank in the lead. "She's amazing!" sighs Mira. "A fantastic actress. She has an uncanny resemblance to the original character. I mean she could've been Amelia Earhart. I didn't pick her. The producers picked her. The project came to me with her already on broad." "We've three more weeks to shoot in South Africa. But before that, I'm taking two weeks off to go home", Mira says from London on Thursday afternoon. She has also completed a 6-minute film on love starring Natalie Portman and Irrfan Khan called Kosher Vegetarian. "It's part of a series on love called New York I Love You. And it's got twelve directors holding forth on love. The only pre-condition was, it must not exceed six minutes. I had this wonderful idea. Irrfan and Natalie create magic. It's a nice vigorous exercise to create a story in so little time. But we had no choice. It had to be six minutes. I finished it in February and moved to the badaa picture." Amelia is Mira's biggest film to date. "A true epic in scope. We're shooting around the world. It's about Amelia Eahart who pretty much pioneered aviatrix. It starts in the earlier years of aviation. My film goes from the 1920s to 1937 when she did her final flight around the world. And ultimately disappeared."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 21 Oct 2008 | 9:39 am Dharmendra's special birthday gift to HemaHema Malini had herself a rocking belated birthday party on Saturday night. "I enjoyed myself thoroughly because all the people I love, all my close relatives and family were there. And of course Dharamji. How could he not be there?" Ask her what the love of her life gifted her and Hema first brushes the question off. "I'm too old for gifts. And still, I'm constantly getting gifts on my birthdays. The older guests gave me sarees. The younger ones made cards. As for Dharamji he has given me so much already. For this birthday he gave his gift in advance." What was that gift? "Some very elegant jewellery that I really wanted. Actually, my birthday celebration this year went on for a week. It started with a havan on 14th and ended with the party last night where I had a Bengali couple singing Ghazals (I like to encourage new talent). While they sang our party suddenly turned into a dance party. We all hit the floor." At 60, Hema seems to have suddenly discovered her fun side in a big way. "I was always a fun person," she protests. "When you've two growing daughters you kind of grow up with them and learn to have fun." Any regret about the birthday party? "None. But Rekha couldn't come. I always invite her for all my birthday parties. This time I invited Zeenat (Aman). And she was kind enough to come. It's good to catch up with colleagues once in a while. I'd have invited Raakhee also. Tell them to trim some sequences or reduce the length by a few minutes and they refuse all suggestions outright. In fact, most directors tend to lose objectivity when they complete the film and expect no suggestions from any quarters. But Samir Karnik is an exception. While screening the film for the armed forces -- producers have to get a clearance from them if they depict armed forces in a film, prior to getting the censor clearance -- Samir decided to watch his film objectively and see where it slows. The moment he watched the film, as a viewer, he decided to delete 12 minutes' footage pronto. "I felt the film was losing its grip at a few places, which is why I decided to trim the film myself. Instead of trimming the film later, it makes sense to trim it yourself, much before the final print is ready," Samir states. And those associated with the two films would be hoping that the festival of lights spreads light in their lives. GOLMAAL RETURNS is crucial for Ajay Devgan. The talented actor has had a spate of flops [CASH, RAMGOPAL VARMA KI AAG, HALLA BOL, MEHBOOBA; SUNDAY was ordinary in some circuits, while U ME AUR HUM did well at big city plexes] and GOLMAAL RETURNS could prove to be the turning point in his career. Kareena Kapoor too is hoping to cement her status with GOLMAAL RETURNS. Her sole release this year [TASHAN] sank at the box-office and though she's riding high on popularity charts, she needs a solid Hit to stay put on the throne. Her rival and contender to the throne, Katrina Kaif, has already had a great innings. The worst affected is Priyanka Chopra. The industry labels anyone a jinxed actor/actress if you have a spate of flops to your credit. And Priyanka has had flops, flops and more flops than any actress this year. In 2006 it was AAP KI KHATIR, in 2007 SALAAM-E-ISHQ and BIG BROTHER and in 2008, as many as four flops in a row -- LOVE STORY 2050, GOD TUSSI GREAT HO, CHAMKU and DRONA. He has achieved notable success in all his films because he knew what he wanted and showed an adventurous spirit in going out and getting it. For the majority of his films, he lets the simple, resonant situations play out, eliciting excellent performances from his actors, right from Chandni Bar to Satta to Page 3 and Corporate. Picking a favourite Madhur Bhandarkar film can be a tough challenge. They are all so uniformly excellent, moving, hard hitting and honest. As a director he has the confidence, generosity, and intelligence to allow his actor and the characters they play, the freedom to truly reveal themselves on screen. With his new film Fashion, he reveals the entire Fashion Industry in front of you, right from what the models go through, their turmoil, their morals, their aspirations and their sacrifices. And of course, with Madhur behind the camera, you can expect much more. In this Bollywood Hungama exclusive, the director talks to our London correspondent Devansh Patel and gets Fashion-conscious. First things first! Will Fashion be your fourth National Award winning film? What a way to start this interview (laughs). I am really keeping my fingers crossed because some of the people who've seen the movie have told me that Fashion is my best work till now. I believe in making the film and leaving it to the audiences and the critics to decide whether it'll work or not. I have done a good job and am waiting for 29th October, the Diwali day which is an auspicious day to release any film. Hope it works. People who've seen the movie have told me that Fashion is my best work till now It means that it'll be a very fashionable Diwali, isn't it? (laughs) Absolutely fashionable. I am really happy that the movie is releasing on this day because every time I've made a film, I wanted to release it during Diwali and that day has come. I am so happy and excited to see the kind of buzz and enthusiasm the movie is generating in India and abroad among the audiences, exhibitors, etc. The songs have also really picked up quite well too, especially, 'Jalwa' and 'Mar Jawa'. Mr. Ram Gopal Varma said that the only film he is looking forward to after string of flops is Fashion. He also went on to say that the content of Fashion will be pretty interesting. Any comments? It's really great, in fact, I just spoke to him this afternoon and he was really looking forward to Fashion. He can't wait to see the film. He sent me an sms saying that the promos are also looking stunning. For me personally, it's really nice because I've worked with Mr Varma for couple of years and I've learnt a lot from him as far as filmmaking is concerned. He has this gut feeling about movies and when he says that the film will work, it does work. RGV has this gut feeling about movies and when he says that the film will work, it does work Your films are based on reality, events and stories happening in the real life. Will Fashion follow the same path too or is it only going to be fictional? My movies are always slice of life. They've always been a mixed blend of realism and fiction together. So there will be some element of fiction in Fashion. Before I make any film, I do a lot of research, meet and interact with people. The audiences will relate to Fashion in a way. Did you meet any of the fashion worlds top models and designers for their advice? Absolutely yes. I've interacted with almost everybody from the fashion world. From the top of the designers to the top super models, the sponsors, the choreographers, etc. It was six to seven months of research which took me to make such kind of a movie and a lot of people from the fashion industry are connected to the film also. Like there are real models and designers you'll see in Fashion. There are other fashion icons like Aishwarya Rai, Dia Mirza, Sushmita Sen, etc. What made you cast Priyanka Chopra? Priyanka Chopra and I always wanted to work together. I remember that she was a great fan of my movies and once we met at one of the film festivals. At that time she had loved my film Corporate. That's when she was really interested in working with me. So I told her that if something comes along, I'll definitely let her know. Once I told her that I'm making this film on the fashion world, she said to come and narrate the film to her. She liked the narration and the character of Meghna Mathur who comes from Chandigarh to Mumbai to make it as a super model. And why Mugdha Godse? That's interesting too. When I was researching for Fashion and went to the Delhi Fashion Week, where I saw this girl walking on the ramp. I was introduced to her previously by a friend of mine. When I saw the confidence in her walk and her eyes, I knew she was my Janet of Fashion. I met her and straight away told her if she was interested to do a movie with me. The rest is history now. In fact, she has surprised everybody by her performance in Fashion. From Priyanka to Kangana, everybody appreciated her work. People say that models can't act. I can say that Mugdha, the newest model turned actress will prove them wrong. You're working with a fresh and a new team of actors this time around. How was the experience? I always make it a point to work with a new team and a new set of actors all the time. It's challenging and something different. This is my style of working. You've said that Fashion is your best work ever, better than all your past films. Is it really? I don't know or remember where I said this or who has said this (laughs). For me, my best work will always remain Satta which didn't do very well at the box office. Konkana Sen Sharma and Atul Kulkarni, your two lucky mascots. You can't leave them behind can you? (laughs) Yes, I can't. They are the best I've worked with. I did approach Atul Kulkarni to play a cameo in Fashion but he couldn't make it for some reason. The good thing is that Konkana is there. She plays herself, Konkana Sen Sharma - the actress. Her boyfriend Ranvir Shorey is also there and both of them play a couple in the film. This is your first film which will appeal to the overseas audiences as well, seeing the subject you've approached this time - Fashion. Any comments? You're right. For me it's a big leap in terms of the film, the concept and the budget because I've never made a movie of 18 to 20 crores. I've always made it between 3 to 4 crores. I always say that I am an experimental filmmaker but my films do get a commercial acceptance. So for me, I'm excited by the kind of feedback, messages and calls I'm getting from the U.K and the U.S. I hope that it gets appreciated there. As you must be aware that the U.K market is star driven. What have you got for them besides Priyanka Chopra? Priyanka Chopra is the first thing which will make it big in the U.K. But more than her, it's the concept and the look of the film which people are going to love. I bet, the overseas audiences haven't seen such style in Hindi movies before. Fashion will change that. Priyanka Chopra has changed at least 150 dresses in the film. Fashion is a personal story of these three models and what they go through. I am not making a statement on the Fashion Industry here. Fashion is a personal story of these three models and what they go through. I am not making a statement on the Fashion Industry here What about the homosexuality element in the fashion world which prevails? Have you shown that aspect too? Definitely yes. The gay angle in Fashion is very evident. Is it wise to go on a fashion show to promote your film rather than go to any reality shows? Reality show or fashion week or any kind of publicity for any film is a must. If we have to do both, we have to do it. There is no way out and there is nothing wrong in it. I think every filmmaker and the films cast want their film to reach the widest of its audiences. Even the kind of investment put into promotion now-a-days is huge. So it definitely is a platform to promote your film. Have you met any model who has given up more than just their morals in the fashion world? (laughs) I know what your question is targeting to. Fashion is much beyond the casting couch story. There are many things that a model has to sacrifice or eradicate like his or hers position, principals, ethics, etc. to reach the top. This film is exactly that. And yes, I have met models who've given up many things than just their morals to reach the standing in their career where they are right now. You love women, don't you? All your films are more or less having a female protagonist. Yes, I love my women. Except Traffic Signal, all my films have showcased women as the main lead. You see, even in Traffic Signal, Neetu Chandra and Konkana Sen Sharma's characters were very strong. I really feel that there are certain issues in certain films where the female protagonist can say the narration in a much better way than the male hero. I've been lucky in that way and my women too who've seen their film worked wonders for them. It's a proud moment. We've even seen UTV's Ronnie Screwvala experiment with different genres. Has he been a great support besides just being a producer? Ronnie has always been a great admirer of my work and I respect him because he is a man who always encourages new cinema. So after Chandni Bar, Page 3, Corporate, etc we used to meet so many times in parties and events and he questioned me as to when will I be doing a film with him. That's when one day we met and I narrated him the idea of Fashion. He said that it was a superb idea and we should go ahead with it. This is the first time when I'm co-producing the film with Ronnie. It's called UTV and Bhandarkar Entertainment presents Fashion. It's my first production. So, your money is at stake then huh? (laughs) Yes, of course, and not only that, my name and my reputation too. It's strange to see that in an economic meltdown like this, every actor and director are turning producers to keep themselves secure. It's not about escapism. Today, people want to invest money only because they know that they'll get something back from it. If you see five years ago, no one used to get such big pay packs as an actor and a director. Now things have changed. It's become a big business now. The kind of multiplexes hitting India and the kind of revenue being generated is larger than life. Another feather in the cap for you Madhur. You and Aamir Khan are being felicitated at the 7th Third Eye Asian Film Festival. I wish I had a collection of such caps too. (laughs) It's a great feeling for me and when I got the news a few weeks ago, I was over the moon. I know Aamir Khan, and we do interact with each other, not too frequently though. But socially whenever we meet, we talk. I loved his film Taare Zameen Par. It's an unbelievable film and I am also proud of the fact that it's the official entry at the Oscars from India. When do we then see a Madhur Bhandarkar film going to the Oscars? I just keep making movies. But fingers crossed, hopefully very soon. I've already got my three Oscars from India which are the National Awards.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 20 Oct 2008 | 2:37 pm Young designers win applause, good business at WIFWA young brigade of designers, a clutch of foreign buyers and a high style quotient were ample indications that the just concluded 12th edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) has firmly established itself as the premier business-to-business platform for the design industry.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 20 Oct 2008 | 2:32 pm New Yorker publishes work of French Nobel laureate!Nobel laureate Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio, little known to American audiences before being named the winner of the literature prize, is getting another introduction to US readers: His work is appearing for the first time in The New Yorker.Source: Zee News : Entertainment | 20 Oct 2008 | 1:05 pm Matthiessen finalist for Watson book!American author Peter Matthiessen has been nominated as the finalists for Watson Book.
