And Goldie Behl is relieved and happy. "It's important for children to enjoy Drona. I'm glad Aryan enjoyed it. I made the film for the child and the child at heart, not for those who like their cinema entertainment twisted and perverse." In fact Goldie will now dedicate the Drona sequel to Shah Rukh's son and his own son Ranvir. It may or may not be the season of sequels. But it seems no power on earth will prevent Goldie Behl from doing a sequel to Drona. In fact Abhishek Bachchan who's the only Indian actor to have done multiple sequels (Dhoom-Dhoom 2, Sarkar-Sarkar Raj) is most kicked by the idea of getting into the Drona togs once again. "It's a very interesting possibility. And taking the story forward is an idea that we've planted into the climax of the story. I don't see why we should change our minds. It's a new genre. There're no reference points to Drona in the audience's movie-viewing experience. Initially they were bound to be a bit confused, as we always are by something new. We were prepared for that'', says Abhishek, undeterred by some skeptical responses to Drona. At the end of Drona, we're shown Drona's son (played by producer Shristhi Arya's son Veer) being tailed by the same supernatural powers as his father. The sequel, it is understood, will launch a new young actor as Abhishek's son and will carry the adventures of Drona into a new realm. Says a source close to the project, "Goldie may take a break to make another film. But most probably he'll go to the sequel as the very next one. The story of the Drona-in-waiting has to be told. In fact Goldie has already written a major part of the script for the sequel. And will be casting soon." Goldie Behl remains unwavering in his determination to direct a sequel. "As far as we're concerned, we've made a film that dares to go into an unexplored genre. Critics are all the time complaining about our films being borrowed from foreign sources. When I've attempted something original, why shouldn't I carry the story forward? Shah Rukh loved the film. He told me his son loved the film. My 3-year old son Ranvir saw the first film of his life at the premiere of Drona. And he couldn't take his eyes off the screen." Goldie says he'll dedicate the Drona sequel to his son and Shah Rukh's son. "And all the children of our country who have to watch crime thrillers and sex comedies because fantasies not made in our country. No matter what the outcome of Drona at the box-office, the sequel will most certainly happen."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 Oct 2008 | 11:09 am Timberlake 'pops' the question to JessicaMelbourne (ANI): Popstar Justin Timberlake has reportedly popped the question to girlfriend Jessica Biel, while on their romantic holiday in Italy. An alumnus of the prestigious IIT-Delhi and IIM-A, Chetan slowly and steadily grew up the corporate ladder to become a successful investment banker. However, he came into the limelight as the author of the international best-seller 'Five Point Someone' followed by another best-seller 'One Night @ the Call Centre'. The latter became so popular that there were many offers to adapt it into a motion picture. Finally, Chetan received an offer (which he couldn't refuse) from actor-director Atul Agnihotri who wanted to make 'One Night @ the Call Centre' into a film and this was how Hello came up. With Hello set to hit the screens this week, Chetan opens up to Bollywood Hungama in this exclusive interview and talks about his first cinematic experience as the story/screenplay writer of Hello, his bonding with the 'Khan-daan' and how he manages to juggle his time between investment banking, writing bestsellers and scripting Bollywood flicks. You simply don't wanna miss this one!!! After being a successful investment banker, and a well known writer of 3 international best selling books you are now entering the big bad world of Bollywood as the story / screenplay writer of Hello. How does it feel? It feels great, of course. Especially with Bollywood, I am now getting such a big platform to tell my stories in Hindi. I don't think you can call yourself an Indian writer if you are not reaching the Hindi speaking audiences. I feel like I am destiny's child. I have always got more than I deserve - whether it is my reader's love or movies being made out of my books. And I believe these gifts are being given to me so I can do something greater for my country - whether inspire a generation or make India a better place. I don't think you can call yourself an Indian writer if you are not reaching the Hindi speaking audiences. How did 'Bollywood Calling' happen? Was it something which was always at the back of your mind or was it all of a sudden and completely unplanned? When my first book came out and became popular, I started getting some enquires from Bollywood. I have always been a big Hindi movie fan, and there is a desire in me to touch as many Indians as possible in my lifetime. So what better way than Bollywood!!! Hello which releases this week is based on your best seller 'One Night @ the Call Centre'. Could you brief us a little on what the film is about for the benefit of all those who have not yet read the book? Quite simply, as the book's title says - it is the story of one night about six people who work in a call center. The night is special because they get a phone call from God. How similar is the film to the original book? It is quite similar as I only wrote the script and Atul was clear he wanted to make the book. He said, "I've loved the book as it was fun to read and it made me more self-confident after I read it. I want the same effect with the film". There are some changes that had to be made due to the requirements of cinema - but they don't really take away much from the book. There are some changes that had to be made due to the requirements of cinema - but they don't really take away much from the book. The film is directed by Atul Agnihotri. His first film as a director Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha bombed at the B.O. Does it bother you? I had discussed Atul's past film before I gave him the rights. However, he is a non-egoistic person who had a very good idea of why his first film bombed. First, he had scripted it when he isn't much of a writer. Second, he had chosen to make what he thought will work with the trade rather than what genuinely moved him. I did several grueling interviews with him and told him that under no circumstances can I embarrass my readers. He answered each and every question. He is well educated - from Sydenham college and he has trained under Mahesh Bhatt as an asst. director for five years. In fact, he never planned to be an actor - he just had a chance casting in Sir. He read the book twenty five times and knew it better than me. He wanted me to be fully involved at every stage and write the entire script, screenplay and dialogues. Finally, he told me "If Shyam, who is a loser in your book, can come back and achieve his full potential and deserves a second chance, why can't I?" The fire in his eyes at that point told me the film belonged to him. Atul read the book twenty five times and knew it better than me. He wanted me to be fully involved at every stage and write the entire script, screenplay and dialogues. In the West, it's quite common for films to be made on popular books / novels. This trend has not been seen so often in Bollywood. Why so?? Because Bollywood is still evolving. There was a relatively set formula in earlier years of making a film work which wasn't so dependent on the script. Today, the script is critical and the money at stake is huge. To avoid creating time bombs, it is a lot better to invest in a tested story than special effects. Hollywood knows this, and Bollywood is learning its lesson the hard way. Of course, the other issue is Indian literature tended to be extremely high brow and not popular, so making popular films with such books was out of question. People often feel that a film can never have the same effect / magic as the book Do you agree with that? I agree, it can't have the same magic. But it can have its own magic. A well made film on a book is a treat - for readers to relive the story and for non-readers as they will be assured of a tight plot on screen. Hello has six principal charactersâ¦Could you tell us something about themâ¦Describe them in one line each The six characters are Shyam, who is having a breakup with Priyanka; Esha, who wants to be a model; Vroom, a hot-headed yet fun guy who likes Esha; Radhika, an overworked housewife and Military Uncle, a retired army man who now works in a call center. The six of them are having the worst night of their life. Salman Khan makes a guest appearance in the filmâ¦yet the film is being promoted as a Salman Khan filmâ¦do you think it is fair? I don't think Hello is being promoted purely as a Salman Khan film. It is very clear that Hello is 'One Night @ the Call Center' and we have millions of readers who already know what role Salman is playing in the film. I also feel Salman's role is important to the story (it is the role I play in the book, so it is obviously important!). So in a way, it is more than a guest appearance anyway. My readers/audience have made me, they trust me and I plan to have a longer innings in Bollywood - so misrepresenting to them would be unthinkable. I don't think Hello is being promoted purely as a Salman Khan film. It is very clear that Hello is 'One Night @ the Call Center' and we have millions of readers who already know what role Salman is playing in the film. How has it been working with the 'Khan-daan'? Salman - Sohail- Arbaaz etc? The Khan-daan is pretty cool. I have seen them over two years now, and I must say they are really blessed to have a family so bonded with each other. They are simple, straightforward, emotional people, and if they like you, they will go all out for you. The head of the family (Salim Khan) is a writer, so they give a lot of respect to writers. So I had a great time with them. How involved were you during the making of the film? I was involved in all stages. Atul drove me mad on the script. He kept making me revise it, he'd say, "It's great, but I know if you look at it one more time, it will only get better." I liked being challenged that way, rather than everyone nodding their heads because I was a bestselling author. Even later, Atul would show me set designs, song samples, and rushes to make sure I was happy with it. I tried to be on sets as much as possible. Otherwise, he would give me shoot updates at the end of the day. He'd say "That joke came out so funny even the light man laughed during the take." Hello is our baby, really!!! Hello is our baby, really!!! Is Hello targeted at the metros and multiplexes or will it find its audience even in smaller towns and single screens? I think herein lies the surprise factor. The trade believes Hello is mainly a metro/multiplex film. However, the Bollywood trade is not aware that my books sell a lot in smaller towns. Around sixty percent of my fan mail is from smaller cities. So I think it will go beyond the multiplexes. Of course, the Salman Khan factor will help in single screen business too. The trade believes Hello is mainly a metro/multiplex film. However, the Bollywood trade is not aware that my books sell a lot in smaller towns. Around sixty percent of my fan mail is from smaller cities. Is there a need / scope for songs in a film like Hello? Yesâ¦in fact I insisted on it. The book is very emotional, and music is a good way to express emotions. Of course, you can't have eight songs in a book about one night. We have three songs, and they fit into the story or are played in the backdrop. Also, the book is considered a fun book, and we wanted to make a fun movie. Where's the fun in taking Salman Khan and not having his bare-chested song in the film? The film has been in the making for a whileâ¦Why the delay? The two main reasons are we wanted to get the script absolutely right, so we took a year in adaptation. Secondly, there are a lot of actors in the film, and matching their dates and night schedules took a lot of time. There are no marks for coming first in filmmaking. You need to make the film right. Your first and most popular book 'Five Point Someone' is being adapted into 3 Idiots by Rajkumar Hiraniâ¦How did that deal happen? During the release of my second book, I happened to meet Raju. He was working on Lage Raho Munnabhai at that time. I gave him my first book and he said he won't be able to read it until his film finishes. However, in a few weeks the Mumbai cloudburst happened and Raju was locked in at home with my book. He read it and called me down to Mumbai. The rest we all know. As you can see, the terrible cloudburst became a divine intervention for me. Have you also written the story/ screenplay for 3 Idiots? No, I am not involved in the adaptation process. Raju has a great team (the Munnabhai team) and I trust him. Raju is adding a lot to the story and so it is better he works on it. Also, I'd rather do a new story than stay on with my old works. You have two of the biggest stars Aamir and Salman starring in two films based on your booksâ¦you surely must be a happy manâ¦any other actors on your wish list I am a happy man anyway as my readers have given me more than I deserve. Having the two Khans is great and glamorous, and will make my story reach more people. No desire to work with any particular actor as such - as long as they are competent and good human beings, I'd love to work with them. Raju has a great team and I trust him Are there any plans for filming your third and most recent book '3 Mistakes of my life'? No plans as of yet. Many offers but I cannot say anything until I experience the full Bollywood cycle with Hello's release. '3 Mistakes' has a big scope as it tackles tough issues, so will make sure a competent team is in place. Coming back to your first love, writingâ¦could you tell your million fans what are you currently working on for your next book and when should it be out by? I won't reveal any details on my fourth book. Suspense is an author's biggest weapon. I have a script to finish after Hello releases, and then will work on the fourth book. I am hoping to have it out by 2010. I won't reveal any details on my fourth book. Suspense is an author's biggest weapon. I have a script to finish after Hello releases, and then will work on the fourth book. How do you manage juggling time between a fulltime top corporate job, your profession as a writer and now as a screenplay writer? I am good at multitasking, and I only write when inspiration comes. At other times, I am in office. Still, it is difficult. But just as a working mother who commutes two hours and looks after her kids at home - I somehow manage. Books are often the best way to spend timeâ¦so what does Chetan Bhagat do in his spare time? Are you an avid reader yourself and what do you like reading? I like to read, but not when I am in the middle of writing something. I read a lot of bestsellers. I also love spending time with my twin boys. I went for my first PTA meeting as a parent last week and the teacher praised them both. I was sort of disappointed as I like naughty kids. My parents were always embarrassed to go to PTA meetings. In the few months that you have been in Bollywood, how has the experience been? It has been a good experience overall, though there are highs and lows. There is a lot to navigate, a lot of people to convince and hard to keep grounded through it all. And yet, you are working on creating something beautiful that all the hard work and frustration seems worth it. Still, for me the attraction of Bollywood is not the glamour but the stage it provides me to channel my thoughts to the people of my country. Let's see if I get to keep my place on this stage. Are you a big fan of Bollywood films? In recent times (this year, last year etc.) which films have you enjoyed watching? I am a huge fan of Bollywood films. I am so into them that there is a censor certificate before my dreams at night. But aren't all Indians? In the last two years, I've loved Taare Zameen Par, Namastey London, Khuda Kay Liye, Om Shanti Om and Partner (huge Salman/ Govinda bias I admit). Being a writer yourself which writers' work do you admire most in Bollywood among the current lot? I have always found Mr. Gulzar to be an inspiration, as he does books as well as scripts. In fact, we share the same publisher (Rupa & Co). Among the current crop, I like Jaideep Sahni, Anurag Kashyap, Prasoon Joshi and Raju Hirani's writing. In the last two years, I've loved Taare Zameen Par, Namastey London, Khuda Kay Liye, Om Shanti Om and Partner (huge Salman/ Govinda bias I admit). Finally Hello opens across cinema halls this week. Why do you think audiences should shell out 200 bucks on a ticket when they have already read the book and know what's in store? All I'd say is my fans and Salman's fans are different from other fans. It's an emotional relationship and they treat us like a big brother. And if your big brother is getting married, do you need a reason to come? Hello's release is as important to me as my wedding day. So our fans know what they have to do. For the rest, all I can say is you'll have super fun in the theatre and come out a more self-confident person. And a few million people have loved the story. Is that reason enough?Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Oct 2008 | 2:25 pm Gul Panag fumes over the deletion of 'condom' from HelloClick above for more stills Maybe that's why they call Bollywood as the other name for 'unexpectedness'. It's kind of strange that on one hand, there are zillions of ads on radio and TV that advocate (in their own creative ways) the importance of using a condom. But, on the other hand, there is our Censor Board which has ordered the chopping of a scene from the forthcoming film Hello that has actress Gul Panag mouthing the usage of 'condom'. The scene in question has Gul asking Sharman Joshi (to whom she is paired opposite) whether he is carrying a condom before they have sex. The deletion of the 'condom' word from the scene has angered Gul to no end, so much so that she is now planning to write a letter to the Censor officials about this absurd decision on their part. Gul argues that since the scene required her and Sharman to make love, she, like any educated woman asks if he is carrying a condom, before they get on with the act. Gul finds it funny that even though the lovemaking scene is retained, the word 'condom' has been chopped off from the dialogue. She also added that this decision only exhibits the double standards of the Censor Board.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 Oct 2008 | 2:16 pm Live Chat: Chetan Bhagat on Oct 8 at 1700 hrs ISTChetan Bhagat is a name which needs no introduction. Though she's now one of cinema's busiest actresses, Celina Jaitely is not about quantity. Inhabiting her characters rather than simply 'Being A Star', she's become the equal of such recent luminaries as Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta and, yes, Kareena Kapoor. Outside of her home nation, particularly in Egypt, she's the 'hot' favourite. It's pouring cats and dogs outside Celina's house in Mumbai. Luckily, I got there in time and just in time for the hot tea which arrives for me the moment I sit on the sofa taking out my recorder. The actress is all excited and ready to return back to the comedy genre after her recent debacle Money Hai Toh Honey Hai. And for a change, Golmaal Returns is looking like it's going to give her more in return than her previous film. In this Bollywood Hungama exclusive, London correspondent Devansh Patel meets Miss Jaitley and gets her talking on Golmaal Returns, Shreyas Talpade, Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, her de-glam look in the film, and yes, her intelligence. Didn't I say, 'Sexy' begins with 'C'? In your film career so far, you've been a part of seven comic capers. What made you sign your eight - Golmaal Returns? I did Golmaal Returns because I loved the prequel Golmaal and somehow I wanted to do a movie which would have the capability to become as big as a No Entry. The role I portray in Golmaal Returns was offered to me only because my director Rohit Shetty was confident that I could play a de-glam girl in the film compared to all other heroines who are present. I play a South Indian woman who is called Mira Nair. She comes from a very strict Brahmin family. I was looking forward for a role like that because I am fed up of doing glamorous roles. There is much more to me than just being a barbie on screen. I got to work with Kareena for the first time and it is always nice to be working with someone who is your senior and who knows much more about the film industry But in a highly male dominated film, do you think you will be noticed? Yes, Golmaal Returns is a male dominated film but it's also a story. As an actor, I believe that all actors make up a story. Even with one of the character's missing, the story can take a bad turn. So, I always see to it that a particular role suits my image. Here I was going to be seen in a new avatar. Secondly, this is a role which the children are going to love and thirdly I wanted to work with Rohit Shetty. Then it was my first time with Ajay Devgan. It was an amazing experience. It was also my second time with Shreyas Talpade who plays my co-star in Golmaal Returns. Then I worked with Kareena Kapoor for the first time and it is always nice to be working with someone who is your senior and who knows much more about the film industry. After all, she comes from a practically a historical film family. It was a great experience for me overall and there was so much I learnt from it. If you've enjoyed No Entry, you'll love Golmaal Returns You've mentioned in all your interviews that Red is your best film till date. Any change of opinion after you've done Golmaal Returns? Yes, Red will always be my most serious and the best performance till date. Comedy is a totally different genre all together. Golmaal Returns is a full on commercial film. If you've enjoyed No Entry, you'll love Golmaal Returns. As far as Red is concerned, it will always be one of those roles which I will remember my entire life. Did the entire cast and crew miss the presence of Sharman Joshi who was in the prequel Golmaal? With Shreyas Talpade coming in the picture, no body is going to remember Sharman Joshi. Shreyas is a brilliant actor and I don't need to prove that. We all know him for Iqbal, Dor and Om Shanti Om. He is very versatile and he can play any given role with a lot of belief. Download image as wallpaper Did you have to go through any South Indian tuitions or training classes for your role? (laughs) Golmaal Returns cinematographer was fondly called Nutty, short for Natarajan. Me and Shreyas used to go to him and ask him, "Agar Bachao bolna hai to kaise bolna hai?" (laughs). So I was the one who was using the maximum South Indian words. Even though I was a girl born and brought up in Mumbai, you still have a tendency to use your Bengali, South Indian or a Gujarati language at home. Credit should go to Nutty Sir for bearing me throughout Golmaal Returns. So how is the de-glam Celina attired in the film? Very simple, with kurta's, jeans and jholas and of course, the South Indian saree and the ghaghra - choli which many wear down south. I am also wearing black contact lenses which were ordered for me especially from London. Practically no make up for me except the kaajal. My character took a real turn when I and Shreyas were filming this engagement scene in the hotel where I was wearing the lehenga with gajra and a choti. A typical South Indian look. We had some aunts and uncles too in the scene. But some of the people from the hotel misunderstood us as the South Indian family. It was hilarious. We hear that the premiere of the film is to take place in Dubai. Any idea? No. I haven't heard of it. If it does happen in Dubai, do you think it's a good idea? Honestly, it's ok to premiere it anywhere in the world because now-a-days you'll find Indians in abundance everywhere. Golmaal is such a film which will not only be loved by the Indians but all the Asian community as well. We've got a huge fan following in the Middle East too. Where would you like the premiere to happen? If it was in my hands, I'd have the premiere in the U.K. Whenever I have gone to the U.K, I've been loved and cared the most, whether it's my personal trip or to promote my films. I love U.K and my best friend, Tanuj, lives there. With you being paired opposite Shreyas, are we going to see you with any of the other co-actor in the film? Yes. For a change, Golmaal Returns is not cliched. I've got many scenes with Ajay Devgan in the film. It was interesting working with him because I've been a big fan of his since I saw Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. He is a very intense actor. He is my favourite romantic hero too. Tell us a bit about the unexplored side of the funny bunch of actors in the film. Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade are the most fun co-stars I've worked with till date. Three of us get along like a house on fire. We'd start laughing in the morning and after pack up we stop. We keep on sending messages to each other talking nonsense all day long. It is fun. Why would people return to watch Golmaal Returns this time around? Honestly, leave your mind at home, brains at home. Come with an open heart with full entertainment. Laugh a lot and go back home and then again if you feel watching it twice, come back or should I say - Return? You will see the lightest side of the most complex situations that people are put into in Golmaal Returns. It's not slapstick, it's situational. This time around, are we going to see the scene continue from where it was left in Golmaal one where Ajay and Arshad do a spoof on the film Black? (laughs) How did you come to know about this? But yes, the most famous 'Black' scene is there in part two too and I am somewhere there in it. We started shooting that scene on the same day of the Press conference we had for unveiling the first look of Golmaal Returns. That same day at 11pm, we started and finished it at 7am the next day. In fact, you will see Black and Red too (laughs). Don't worry, Red is just me being silly. The most famous 'Black' scene is there in part two too and I am somewhere there in it I've heard that there are two songs which are the most expensive songs shot in Indian cinema in Golmaal Returns. Is it true or just to market the film? It is true. Yes, 'Tha Kar Ke' is expensive with hundreds of extras acting in it and real cars being blown up. Rohit hasn't used any toy car or any props. But there is this other song shot between me and Ajay Devgan where I play the man's role and he plays the woman and how I hold him by his legs and he revolves round and round on the deck of the ship. The glimpses of which are seen in the promo. Actually, it is the funniest song shot in the history of Indian cinema. People are going to fall off their chairs watching it (laughs). I am all in a gown but playing a man (laughs). There is a song shot between me and Ajay Devgan where I play the man's role and he plays the woman. It is the funniest song shot in the history of Indian cinema We also got to know that you suffered an eye infection during the shooting of Golmaal Returns? Yes. I did have an eye infection once and because of that I could not attend three major press events at the beginning of the promotional schedule. So a lot of people said that I was being excluded from the film and said all sorts of things like there was a competition going on between Kareena and Celina, etc. So this is a misunderstanding I'd like to clear. You're a brand ambassador for the Egypt Tourism. Do you then recommend directors to go and shoot their films in the beautiful country? Of course yes. Recently, there was a song from Singh Is King which was shot in front of the beautiful pyramids. We did a lot of publicity for the tourism back in Egypt and in India. Egypt is one of the most romantic destinations in the world. Let's not forget the famous love story of Cleopatra and Ceasar which took place in Egypt. I was still in two minds whether I should take this opportunity to be an ambassador or not and then I realised that I was a mountain girl. I was born and brought up around the mountains of India and so to be in the middle of the desert was exciting. If I was in a relationship, I would've gone to Egypt for my romantic holiday. People think that the pyramids are gorgeous but for me the river Nile is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I went on a cruise through the river and I felt that I was travelling back in time and history. This is your first film with your producers Shree Ashtavinayak. How was the entire experience? It's one of the best production houses I've worked with. I've been very lucky because so far I've worked with the best of the lot. They know what they are doing and that's a good thing about these producers. You don't go through any troubles and they look after you very well. Having said that, they spoil you sometimes. Whatever the director requires it's there for him because they think for the betterment of the entire film. So the final product is always lavish and good. Do you think that Golmaal Returns is the apt title for the second part? Yes, because the first part Golmaal was a hit. Everybody knew Golmaal and the title track of the film. So when you're trying to create the same magic for the similar star cast with the same kind of story continuing, I think nothing could be better than adding 'returns' to the first name. Tell us about one of the famous Mithun Chakraborty song you sang and fell down laughing. (laughs) We were singing 'Zoobie Zoobie Zoobie' from the film Dance Dance. And Shreyas and Tusshar also joined in the act. It's one of our all time favourite songs. We sang the song all the way to Thailand and back. Imagine us three dancing to the song (laughs). We were singing 'Zoobie Zoobie Zoobie' from the film Dance Dance Are you aware of the fact that the media counts you as one of the most intelligent actresses around after Lara Dutta? Me and Lara are best of friends. So it's good to know that. I don't know what makes me intelligent. I just speak my mind and if you think that's intelligent then be it. Me and Lara come from a very strong third and fourth generation of military background, and I guess that outspokenness and holding oneself together and some mannerisms play a vital role. But in today's day and age, you want to speak your mind out without being abusive and rude and that's intelligence for me. Why go and watch Golmaal Returns this Diwali? Because if you'd like to spend your money on your entertainment, go and spend it on Golmaal Returns.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Oct 2008 | 2:02 pm All you wanted to know about HelloIt's always said that 'Never judge a book buy its cover'.
