Nicolas Cage Gets Medieval

Photo: Getty Images

Galloping Into Theaters: Nicolas Cage will once again work with Gone in Sixty Seconds director Dominic Sena in Relativity Media's Season of the Witch. Story follows a fourteenth-century knight who must escort on horseback a girl suspected of being "the witch behind the Black Plague" to a distant monastery. The action-loving Sena was presumably hesitant until Cage convinced him that he "could put in some bitchin' horse chases." [HR]

The Hornet Hustle: Columbia announced that Kung Fu Hustle's Stephen Chow will direct Seth Rogen in The Green Hornet, an announcement so awesome it could only be topped this other tidbit: Chow will put on his Bruce Lee pants and play Kato. Says Rogen: "Stephen was always my and Evan [Goldberg]'s first choice for director and to play Kato. We just hope that he never finds out we're not the Wachowski Brothers." This is just … too awesome to make fun of. [ComingSoon]

Mass Effect Movie: Nerd-producer Avi Arad has optioned Mass Effect, the award-winning sci-fi action game from Bioware and Electronic Arts. The game already has a fairly sprawling space-opera story about humans fighting aliens, etc., and players get to choose the main character's backstory, a customization that might be tricky to translate onscreen. Still, with Gore Verbinski's Bioshock movie in development at Universal, the race is on to see who'll make the Internet angrier with their sucky adaptation. [Variety]

Stiller's Station: Fox TV is developing a "quirky office comedy" called The Station with Kevin Napier and Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films shingle. Stiller will direct the pilot, which takes place in a covert CIA office in South America and may or may not star Robert Downey Jr. as a dude playin' a dude disguised as another dude. [Variety]

Waiting for Bilson: Rachel Bilson will star in the indie romantic comedy Waiting for Forever, directed by TV's James Keach. The story follows a jobless dude who decides to spend the rest of his life with his true love, a 25-year-old TV actress in Hollywood. Will this be Rachel Bilson's last movie role before a lifetime of waiting for an O.C. reunion special? Yes. [Variety]

Going, Going, Gone

Photo: Getty Images

Above is an image from last night's game at Yankee Stadium, the last ever in the legendary ballpark. Greats like Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Reggie Jackson, and Bernie Williams showed up in the House That Ruth Built, and Babe's own daughter, Julia Ruth Stevens, threw out the opening pitch. We'll have a report from one of our writers who was lucky enough to get tickets later in the day, but just in case you were keeping score, the Yanks beat the Orioles 7–3, staving off elimination for another game. Their 85-year record in the stadium was left at 4,133–2,430, with seventeen ties.

‘The Wire’ Continues Its Emmy Streak!

Photo: Courtesy of HBO

So, how did The Wire — roundly hailed by critics as television's best-ever show — do at last night's Emmys? Did the Academy of TV Arts and Sciences break tradition and give David Simon the award for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series, only the second Emmy The Wire has ever been nominated for (it lost in the same category in 2005), simply because its final season aired this year and it can never be nominated again?
