Fresh after the success of One Two Three, Tusshar Kapoor had a lot riding on C Kkompany since the film had him in the main lead with Anupam Kher and Rajpal Yadav giving him good support. The film failed at the box office but instead of sulking or proclaiming good show in a random B or C center at some remote corner of the country, Tusshar is quick to analyse the reason behind the non-performance of C Kkompany. "We were not true to the film, it's as simple as that", says Tusshar who is now looking forward to his returns as a 'naughty goonga' in Golmaal Returns, "We should have either stuck to making a comedy or tell a serious story with a message. We tried to amalgamate both and in the process the final product was neither here nor there. But hey, it happens; Sachin Yardi was a new director and we have full faith in his capabilities. He will make a much better film in his next outing." Doesn't he feel that in spite of being heavily promoted, it lost out to Rock On (that released on the same day) which just swept away anything that came in its way? "That's another lesson that we have learnt", Tusshar is quick to respond, "It is not always quantity which matters; quality speaks it's own language. Rock On had limited promotion but they packaged it very smartly. They were targeting urban youth and promised them a fun outing which they could identify with. Their promos conveyed it beautifully and Abhishek's (Kapoor) direction was brilliant in any case. Result was there to be seen with promos getting good audience and Abhishek ensuring that they come again after the first visit." There are not many who would acknowledge the success of the other film, especially when it has a role to play (to a good extent) in the underperformance of their own film. "Hey come on, we are living in the times when you have to stand up and appreciate what works", explains Tusshar, "I have done like 19 films now and it would be foolhardy to live in a world where all you can do is fall in love with your own project. One has to analyze the reason behind the success or a failure and move on rather. She never lets a dull moment around her." Since she is in her early 20s, where does she see herself in real life? I am not that dreamy and demure or overtly outrageous. I am rather pragmatic in real life and know what is possible in real world and what's not. Though a cloud recently fell over Namrata Shirodkar's paradise when her mom passed away last week, marriage and motherhood suit the actress, best remembered for her stellar performance as a streetwalker in Mahesh Manjrekar's Vaastav opposite Sanjay Dutt. "In fact," she laughs from Hyderabad as her 2-year old son Gautam constantly demands her attention. "Sanju who's a dear friend sent me an offer through Rikkuji (Rakesh Nath, who looked after Namrata and her sister Shilpa's work) for a T Series film. I was tempted. But then I looked at my son, and that moment was over. Really, at this moment I want nothing more than to look after him. And he's quite a handful. On some days, I just want to sit under a shooting umbrella in a sunny outdoor location all over again. But then nothing gives me more happiness than Gautam." Namrata brightens with maternal pride. "I don't want to say it myself. But Gautam is a very good- looking boy. He has my eyes and Mahesh's smile." Namrata's husband Mahesh Babu is the reining superstar in Telugu cinema, and she has now started taking interest in his career. "I recently supervised his clothes for a film, and enjoyed the diversion. Whenever his movies need an artiste from Mumbai I tap my old contacts, like recently I contacted Malaika Arora for a song in Mahesh's film." Mom's going has left a wound within Namrata. "But it's ok. I'm done with the grieving. She didn't have to suffer much. The only lingering sorrow is that my sister Shilpa couldn't be down from London when our mom was gone. Shilpa's passport had been taken away because she has applied for British citizenship. My sister was much closer to mom. Mom accompanied my sister to all her shootings. I made my way on my own." Now Namrata is planning a trip to London to share her sister's sorrow. "The only problem is, will Gautam be able to take the long flight?" For now, Mahesh Babu is taking time off from his hectic shooting schedules to take his lovely wife and cute son on a holiday to Singapore before he leaves for a 40-day outdoor in Rajasthan. Does Namrata miss Mumbai? "I don't miss the city. I miss my friends. Most of my closest friends have come to visit me in Hyderabad. But not in a sequel to the successful film. Farhan feels he has had enough of the Rock On saga. "The director Abhishek Kapoor should know about the sequel. As for me, I'm not for it. I feel Rock On is a sequel to my own Dil Chahta Hai. Both transported me to the same emotional space. So I've had enough of it. I think Abhishek has a lot more to do as a filmmaker than a sequel." Playing as a band is what Farhan wants to do with the Rock On gang. "Suddenly there's an upsurge of rock⦠We suddenly have an Indi-rock revival. Regional bands are again playing. Newspapers articles are being written about desi rock. Suddenly, I feel we've started something we can't control. It's all very encouraging. It's a great thing happening here. Credit must go to our director Abhishek Kapoor who was very adamant on doing a film on a neglected cultural phenomenon." Farhan feels his experience with his Rock On co-stars is unique. "A camaraderie has set in among the four of us. This bonding is very special. We want to carry our musical togetherness forward. What we saw in Delhi on Saturday was unbelievable. Before the film's release we had performed in Mumbai and Pune. The experience in Delhi post-release is something else. The audience knew us and the songs⦠They were screaming my character's name Adi." Farhan can't hide his delight. "Rock On has created a certain parameter within which other films based on music will be gauged. People within the industry feel more adventurous and conscientious after Rock On. Fortunately I'm stubborn. Otherwise I wouldn't have made the films I did." For now, Farhan is having the time of his life. "The second week of Rock On was better than the first.
