Chak De girl Sagarika replaces Esha Deol in Raftaar

Among the whole bunch of girls who acted in Chak De India alongside SRK, probably the one who managed to draw maximum eyeballs was Sagarika Ghatge. Sagarika, who played the gutsy character of Preeti Sabarwal, also emerged as the highest goal-scorer in the film. Now it seems Sagarika has managed to strike a goal in her real life too. The actress has been signed by Percept Picture Company for their film Raftaar (working title). The film is directed by noted ad film maker Shamin Desai. Sagarika will be paired opposite serial-kisser Emraan Hashmi in the film. What is interesting is the fact that the role which Sagarika has been signed for was to be originally played by Esha Deol. Bollywood Hungama got in touch with Sarita Patil, Head of feature films at Percept Picture Company, to get some more info on this story. “Yes we have signed Sagarika for Raftaar. She has replaced Esha Deol as we couldn’t agree on the price. After things didn’t work out with Esha, we had a couple of options in mind and our director Shamin had seen Sagarika’s work in Chak De India and felt she would fit the part. Sagarika’s is a full-fledged lead role opposite Emraan Hashmi.” The film also stars Neha Dhupia and Aditya Panscholi in prominent roles. Shooting for the film is currently underway in Kuala Lumpur and the film is expected to release sometime early next year (2009).

Jeetendra and Tusshar's act of benevolence for stray dogs on 10 Ka Dum

Salman Khan's game show 10 Ka Dum has seen a host of celebrities making their presence felt. Most of them usually time their appearance coinciding with their film release and hence it serves as a good way to create publicity for their film. In the recent past, Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif were seen on the show during the time Singh is Kinng released and later on, even the Bachna Ae Haseeno cast (except Bipasha Basu) played 10 Ka Dum with Sallu bhai. Now this week, as Balaji Motion Pictures' laugh-riot C Kkompany opens across cinemas, the baap-beta jodi of Jeetendra and Tusshar Kapoor would be seen playing the game with Salman Khan. The episode not only promises a lot of fun but also spreads a social message as the father-son duo decide to give away their winnings to support the cause of welfare of stray dogs through PETA. Jeetendra even went on to say, "The city has a problem of stray dogs. We have to find ways to help them. Where is the space in the city to house them? I am doing my bit for them. In my Balaji office premises, we have reserved some space for stray dogs and have even employed people to take care of them. And now with the money I have won, I am sure my dear ones are going to have some better facilities." The camaraderie between Jeetendra , Tusshar and Salman is something you don't want to miss. To catch all the fun and action of this special episode, check out 10 Ka Dum this Saturday (Aug 30) on Sony Entertainment Television at 9 pm IST.

Mushtaq Shiekh on his new book 'Shah Rukh Can'

Having started his career as a journalist, Mushtaq Shiekh has indeed come a long way. From writing exclusive columns in film magazines to writing scripts for popular K-serials to writing the story of one of the country's biggest blockbusters Om Shanti Om, Mushtaq has indeed done it all. However, Mushtaq is still best known as the author of Shah Rukh Khan's biography- 'Still Reading Khan'. His proximity with the country's biggest superstar is something that's known to one and all. He even wrote the coffee-table book on 'The Making of Asoka' and 'The Making of Om Shanti Om'. Now after having already penned a book on the life of SRK, Mushtaq is ready to release yet another book on the superstar and this time it's called 'Shah Rukh Can'. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, this talented writer speaks about what readers can expect from his new book, his proximity with SRK and his future plans. Is it true that you have written yet another book on SRK called 'Shah Rukh Can'? Yes, the book will be released in a month's time. The exact date has yet not been finalized. You had earlier penned his biography 'Still Reading Khan', what is different this time around? 'Shah Rukh Can' is the paperback version of 'Still Reading Khan'. This book is an updated version of my coffee table book. Shah Rukh is a non-stop machine, he does hundred things each day, to keep up, it's next to impossible but I am trying to do so in the form of my book. The other aspect was that many people had complained to me that reading my earlier biography in the form of a 4 kg coffee table book took a toll on their backbone so I decided to make things easy for many. So this book will be easy on your eyes, your back bone and your wallet (laughs). So in a nutshell, 'Shah Rukh Can' is all things good condensed into one compact book. I have tried to capture the magic of Shah Rukh Khan between the covers of my book. And I sincerely hope and pray to Allah that I have succeeded, because dealing with someone else's life story and telling it as honestly as possible is a huge task. I have tried to capture the magic of Shah Rukh Khan between the covers of my book. What made you come up with this idea? Lots of my fans have been writing in to say that my coffee table book is too cumbersome to handle. In fact, I have complaints from women who say they could not even take my book to bed with them. (Laughs) So this idea came to me. There was a lot to add. A year has passed since I released the coffee table. It's already done exceptionally well and now I thought that I should push the envelope and make the book available to a larger chunk of people. I have complaints from women who say they could not even take my book to bed with them. You are known to be very close to Shah Rukh Khan...How did you first get to know him? I met Shah Rukh more than a decade ago when I was a journalist. I met him up for an interview and the rest is publishing history as they say. How much has SRK cooperated during the making of this book? The book would have been impossible without his cooperation. The only care I took was to curb my temptation and not ask too many questions and irritate him. The advantage you have when you know someone well is that you don't have to re-check many issues. You already know most things. What I had to be careful about is that I didn't take advantage of my friendship with the man. And that's always a tough one. It becomes unfair to harrow someone too much and more so if it's a man who's every second has been pre-booked for the next five years. The advantage you have when you know someone well is that you don't have to re-check many issues. You already know most things Is there a grand function for the release? I have made a habit of releasing my book as if it's a film premiere. Every launch party seems to take a toll on me. They seem to tire me more than the whole process of writing and putting together a book. So this time I am going the more conventional route of having a book reading session, the details of which are not really planned as of now… Heard this time over, you are targeting the cyber space in a big way? Yes, I am because I have always realized the potential of the net and the way the world reaches out to you here on cyber space. The same process takes time in the brick and mortar land. But it happens in an instant on the web. My publisher, OM Books International, is going hammer and tongs on the net simply because the whole book loving clan seems to be surfing the net these days. The day my publisher www.om-books.com opened pre-orders on their site there has already been a thunderous response. Be it Russia, Germany, Australia, Hong Kong or Japan, I am getting pre-orders from everywhere. As an author I don't think I can ask for more. Can I? Shah Rukh Can is priced at a modest 395 Rs. Anybody who aspires to get more from life should read this book. So my target audience is anyone who wants to be inspired. How much is it priced at and who is it targeted at? As I said earlier, this time I am keeping it very affordable and easy on your wallet. It's a modest 395 rupees. Shah Rukh's life has to be devoured by anyone who wants to make a difference. Who does not want to make it big? Who does not want to question destiny and demand more from it? We all do. Shah Rukh is one such exemplary example and anybody who aspires to get more from life should read this book. So my target audience is anyone who wants to be inspired. And finally the last question…You also co-wrote the story /screenplay of OSO, what else are you working on now with regards to films? I am currently working on Priyadarshan's next film Billo Barber starring Irrfan Khan and Shah Rukh and I am having the blast of a life time. I am today working with people who I have always looked upto and admired. Could not ask for more from life...actually hold that thought; let's hope for the super success of Om Shanti Om for every film I write (laughs).

"For Mukhbiir, I went into rigorous research" - Mani Shankar

The guru of techno-savvy cinema, Mani Shankar, is ready with his fourth Hindi film Mukhbiir. Mani discusses his cinema with Subhash K Jha From the outside it seems Mukhbiir enters a world we've never seen before... The world of Indian espionage is a very grey zone. No one knows much about it. When I did my other film 16 December about the Indian Intelligence services I had taken the active support of the intelligence departments. Again for Mukhbiir, I went into rigorous research. When you make a film about verifiable branches of the government service you had better get your facts right. In Mukhbiir, we've actually used information about the Indian espionage service from the fields. You started your Hindi film career with a bang… You could say that. Business Today ranked 16 December among the Top 10 grossers of 2002. It grossed Rs. 14.2 crores when it was made at a budget of Rs 2 crores. In fact, my two subsequent films Rudraksh and Tango Charlie also economized way beyond what people saw on screen. It's a filmmaker's biggest concern to deliver the biggest bang for the buck. So the producer can laugh all the way to the 'bang'. I generally cut out all that's not being seen in the film. Until I hand over the film to the producer, I'm the producer. And I make sure I use the resources to the optimum. That's true of Mukhbiir as well. You're the guru of techno-savvy cinema. How did that happen? I'm a qualified engineer. In fact, a filmmaker should be knowledgeable about every department of filmmaking. For many of my music videos I was the cinematographer. Now, I know in one glance if a frame needs correction. Such across-the-board knowledge speeds the process of filmmaking. If, for instance, you bring on the special effects guys from outside they slow down the process. When I'm in charge I can take instant decisions. This certainly helps economize. According to me there're two aspects to filmmaking. The art and the craft. One without the other is useless. I felt I needed to get a better grasp on my art. I've done so in Mukhbiir. How did Mukhbiir originate? The story started in my mind in 1996 when I was in Kashmir shooting for an anti-militancy music video for the Intelligence Bureau. I encountered a young Intelligence recruit who had been captured by militants and tortured non-stop-he had cigarette burn- marks all over his back and shoulder. This boy was left on the streets by our government because it had no more use for him. This boy wandered on the streets of Kashmir waiting to be shot. That's where my story for Mukhbiir originated. I wanted to make a film about a boy standing in the last line in the game of politics that never gets the credit but finally gets the bullet...the so-called expendables whose life span in Intelligence work is 2-3 years. The facts that I found out about these boys all below the age of 20, all looking for thrills, who die in anonymity were stunning. Do you know they're sometimes finally killed by the government Intelligence when these boys are no longer useful? Sometimes they are traded off, other times they're bumped off. In Mukhbiir, Sammir Dattani plays one such government informer. Om Puri plays the 'handler' employed to training motivating and de-briefing the trainee. The emotional relationship between Om and Sammir is also a key to the film's theme. The emotion and pace go hand in hand. Mukhbiir is an honest commercial film. Though I've broken all formula my ticket-paying audience won't feel cheated. Your earlier films were guilty of too much research too little emotions. I admit to this. There was an overt focus on plot. One lives and learns. I like my other films too, though audiences couldn't follow Rudraksh. But in Mukhbiir I've been able to create a fine blend of plot and characters, and research and emotions. Mukhbiir is a biographical story of a boy's journey. All that Sammir's characters wants is to have an identity, have a girlfriend…a simple normal life. But he can't do these things. What prompted you to sign Sammir Dattani for the central role? We chose him after a massive hunt. He then underwent a rigorous training. It was basically the right face. I feel that's half the battle of casting. You may be a phenomenal actor. But you don't have to be right for every role. If you've the correct face you can move the audience to tears with a silent expression. That was the case with Sammir. Though he has done only a handful of films, he's a very competent actor. Sammir has given a sterling performance. After Mukhbiir people will look at him and say, 'Wow we didn't know he's this good.' The women in the audience will just want to hug him to their bosom. I believe cultural and religious identities are crucial to the hero's character in Mukhbiir. Yes. Sammir's character holds the Mother Goddess close to his heart and yet he has to convert himself totally to Islam. The character even undergoes a circumcision. He finally believes in the one-ness of God and dies a Muslim. When he converts, he converts with his whole heart. Do you foresee a controversy? Sammir's character does what has to be done…just as I made the film that had to be made. I'm totally excited by the journey into the unknown. Tomorrow I don't want to make what someone, including me, made yesterday. I like to go to the unexplored territory, like Ulysses.

"Response to Karzzzz has been overwhelming" - Himesh Reshammiya

Download Karzzzz wallpapers Much awaited music for Karzzzz has just hit the stands and Himesh Reshammiya is eagerly awaiting response for his 19 songs album. In fact before the music release, Himesh even visited Shrinathji temple to seek blessings from his holy God. Anxious about his return to celluloid after more than a year, Himesh arrives again in the triple role of an actor, composer and singer with Karzzzz, the publicity of which has started on top gear from Day 1 itself. "By the grace of God, the response on the promos and the songs has been overwhelming to say the least. We have already unleashed as many as three numbers - 'Lut Jaon', 'Tandoori Nights' and 'Hari Om' - in a week's time itself, something which has been unprecedented since the norm is to space out the release of two tracks. However, the entire team of Karzzzz is supremely confident about both movie as well as the music of Karzzzz due to which we have plenty to offer to our audience in weeks to come", says Himesh from Udaipur where he is shooting at Devigarh Palace for Pooja Bhatt's Kajrare. Talking about his visit to Shrinathji temple, Himesh divulges, "Shrinathji are my Holy God and I visit this temple once every 4 months. It is my good fortune that I took blessings from my Lord on the auspicious occasion of the music release of my album. It is only going to get more and more hectic as the release date comes nearer." With 17th October being announced as the release date for the film, there are exactly 50 days more to go. "And you would see a lot happening in due course of time", adds a source from T-Series, "There is so much software waiting to be exposed to the audience in time to come. We have combined some key scenes and dialogues in the song promos of Karzzzz; an attempt which has been widely appreciated. It has managed to arouse quite some curiosity around the project which is going to be the biggest this season. Now with six more songs to go, and the highlight track 'Ek Kaseena Thi' being the biggest of all, it is going to be Karzzzz wave all the way this season." A T-Series production which is directed by Satish Kaushik, Karzzzz comes with an interesting tagline of 'Vengeance Is Back', hence justifying the theme of the film. Marking the debut of Shweta Kumar as the leading lady opposite Himesh Reshammiya, this remake of Subhash Ghai namesake film also stars Urmila Matondkar, Danny Denzongpa, Gulshan Grover and Dino Morea.
