Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 25 Aug 2008 | 12:39 pm Amitabh is crowning glory of 'The Last Lear': ArindamProducer Arindam Chaudhuri can't stop raving about Amitabh Bachchan's performanceSource: India News | 25 Aug 2008 | 11:07 am "We have fallen out? What rubbish!" - Anees Bazmee/ Vipul ShahIt is a common saying, not just in Bollywood but any industry, that success brings with it it's many detractors. Even as the euphoria of huge money spinner that Singh Is Kinng was still on came a report that it's makers Anees Bazmee (director) and Vipul Shah (producer) had fallen out. Their point of contention? Who is responsible for the success of this Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer? While intense marketing and some superb planning by Vipul made Singh Is Kinng reach out to the masses, Anees Bazmee ensured that they were kept entertained in those two hours that followed once theater doors were closed and lights went dim. No wonder, lines were drawn and detractors started having a field day to pit the two successful filmmakers against each others. While a tabloid report did claim that all was not well between the two ever since the film became a success, the fact is that it has only succeeded in leaving a bad taste in the mouth of both Anees and Vipul. Negating any issue whatsoever that the two were supposed to have with each other, Anees and Vipul re-emphasize their fondness and respect for each other and come out clean in this exclusive conversation with Joginder Tuteja, only at Bollywood Hungama. "Stories about the fall out between me and Vipul are absolute hogwash. Why would that happen", questions Anees who has now delivered third major successful money spinner in 3 years after No Entry and Welcome, "I have always maintained that I love my work the most and that was the case with Singh Is Kinng as well. Soon after the film was declared a superhit within 3 days of its release, I was busy working on It's My Life. When did I actually have time to get into any sort of quarrels or unpleasant situation with Vipul?" Reaffirms Vipul from London (where he is busy with pre-production of London Dreams), "We were partying day in and night out throughout the first weekend of the film's release. Then Aneesji got busy with his next project while I too came to London. Tell me, when could we have actually got into verbal duel, as has been claimed, in the interim? It is irresponsible reporting at its worst!" But there may have been something which he or Anees would have uttered which would have led to the article coming out in print? "None at all", thunders Vipul in unison, "In fact all through my conversation, I continued to maintain that I would love to work with Aneesji in future as well. Even when I was asked about directing the sequel to Singh Is Kinng, I acknowledged that there was no one better equipped to do the job than Aneesji himself. I also stated that even if he was busy, I would continue to pursue him to take on the project and even in the worst case scenario; I would want him to be associated with the project in the capacity of a creative advisor. Now what can one do when in spite of such positive statements being made about a fellow director, some random angle is highlighted to make it sound like a bitter war in the happening. It is disgusting to see something like this being done just in order to come up with a spicy story." Adds Anees in his characteristic cool manner, "There are people in the industry who would love to create a rift between two people if they are successful. There are feeds from these so-called sources which make matters ugly. In our case too, there was certain negativity in place ever since work began on Singh Is Kinng a year back. People used to challenge the very aspect of two established directors coming together for a project. They said, 'Yeh project nahi ban sakta kyonki Vipul aur Anees ki sensibilities different hai'." "True", laughs Vipul, "There were many who would tell me that films directed by Aneesji take time to be completed and hence be very sure before he comes on the project. But see, after initially announcing 15th August 2008 as the release date for the film, we not just came a week earlier but also did record business at the box office. No wonder, the same people are now trying to create a rift between the two of us." Getting emotional, Anees adds, "There have been good reviews and terrific word of mouth with everyone acknowledging the fact that Singh Is Kinng has given audience a 'paisa-vasool' entertainment. But guess what is the biggest compliment that I got? It was just two simple words - 'Thank You' - from Shefali Shah (Vipul's wife) that touched my heart the most. I guess nothing else can ever take away this heartfelt gesture from her!" Coming to two established directors coming together for a project, do they really feel that anyone out there is indeed uncertain about whose film is it eventually? Says Vipul in a matter of fact tone, "Arrey bhai, it was always a film by Anees Bazmee and it will always stay on to be the same. I knew that I had to distance myself from the project as far as calling the shots from behind the camera was concerned. Both of us come from different sensibilities and for Singh Is Kinng, it was quite obvious that Anees would do the best. It is his film all the way and I would be mighty surprised if anyone out there still wants to challenge that or tries to create a misunderstanding on just this very point."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Aug 2008 | 10:45 am Harman Baweja back with VictorySports and sports films seem to be occupying a lot of our cinematic space. Pritish Nandy Communications(PNC) is about to make trendy spruce-up animation versions of three Samanta classics Howrah Bridge, Amar Prem and Barsaat Ki Ek Raat. Says the company's prime mover, Pritish Nandy, "This is my homage to one of the most underrated filmmakers of the country. When I met Mr. Samanta, he was so pleased to know his films would reach out to a new generation. Howrah Bridge is one of my favourite noire films. The magic of Sachin Dev Burman's music, the chemistry between Ashok Kumar and Madhubala and the seductive charm of Ashok Kumar's baritoneâ¦.all that I want to capture in animation form." Why these films from Shakti-da's astonishing oeuvre? Why not the other classics like Aradhana, Amanush and Kati Patang? Says Mr Nandy, "I've chosen Howrah Bridge, Amar Prem and Barsaat Ki Ek Raat because they not only represent three phases in Shakti Samanta's career but also three generations of superstars Ashok Kumar, Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. Barsaatâ¦.is not one of Mr Bachchan's better known films. So there's an added excitement there of introducing a neglected AB film through animation." PNC won't only pay a homage to the Bengali mellow-dramatist but also to the immortal melodies of Sachin and his son Rahul Dev Burman in the cinema of Shakti Samanta. We'll be hearing the animation figures sing songs like 'Aaiye Meherbaan' in Howrah Bridge, 'Yeh Kya Hua' and 'Raina Beeti Jaaye' in Amar Prem and 'Apne Pyar Ke Sapne' in Barsaat Ki Ek Raat. Explains Mr Nandy, "We'll have the original music from these films. But we'll also have re-mix version of the originals side by side." In the meanwhile Mr Nandy speaks for the first time on his international project Karna. "It's tie-up between PNC and a Hong Kong company. Earlier, we tied up with Motion Pixel Corporation with whom we're doing six animation films starting with Ek Haseena Ek Deewana." Mr Nandy denies that the animation version of the Fardeen Khan-Koena Moitra starrer will be true to the feature film. "It just uses the two main characters played by Koena and Fardeen as a spring board. The animation feature takes the characters forward. We'll have a series of animation films based on the adventures of these two characters." With PNC, Yashraj Films, Karan Johar and Ajay Devgan doing animation, is that the flavour of the season? "What we're doing is something different. We also have an animation version of Sholay", signs off Mr Nandy. Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 25 Aug 2008 | 7:01 am Aamir gets in touch with feminine sideIT'S the X and Y chromosomes at war within Aamir Khan. The actor plays a woman again, or at least half man and half woman. For a hilarious TV commercial for Tata Sky, Aamir plays both a Punjabi bride and bridegroom bickering over what satellite TV connection to install. The commercial, that airs on Monday, shows the actor dressed one half in a pink salwar kameez complete with dupatta and the other half in a blue sherwani. This Punjabi bride and bridegroom squabble on their suhaag raat over what satellite connection to install - the woman says she'll go back to her maaike in London if she doesn't get 'technological' Sky, while the groom forcefully insists that he will only use the 'barosemann' Tata. Of course, it all ends lovey dovey when the couple find out that they are quarrelling over the same product. The star was so taken in by the idea that he agreed to produce it himself. Aamir Khan Productions has worked on the creative by Rediffusion and the ad has been directed by dialogue writer and Phir Hera Pheri director Neeraj Vora. Aamir Khan, currently in the US, comments in the making of segment, "I had to change my body language from a woman to a man in a split second so the mind had to be alert and sharp." Indeed, it is this quick back and forth between the man and his wife that keeps the viewer in splits - Aamir does it so effortlessly, switching his voice from high-pitched to baritone in the blink of an eye. "It was bizarre because it's me as a man and a woman, just by turning around," he says. Director Neeraj, whose association with Aamir dates back to his Rangeela and Mann days, told Sunday MiD DAY, "Aamir has the capacity to surprise. Working with him is like driving a Mercedes or BMW over any other car." Neeraj remembers how Aamir painstakingly spent six-seven hours in a parlour to transform into a woman for a song in Baazi. "But he captures the attitude and essence in such a correct manner that it's never undignified. It doesn't look as if he's mocking women, just playing them." Neeraj is curious to see how viewers respond to the man-woman. "We chose a Punjabi couple because they are usually outspoken, their excitement is wider and they are so colourful. I knew Aamir would play it best." Since Aamir's look was key in the ad, make-up was done by the gifted Mickey Contractor, who fashioned one side of his lip with a curvy moustache and painted another a plum red. Costume designer Arjun Bhasin also got into the act, creating an outfit that was one half a sherwani, the other a salwar kameez down to the separate jootas, while hair stylist Adhuna Akhtar fashioned a wig that was both a crop and a long, decorated choti. "The wig was tricky," grins Aamir, who even wore a half-bra to get into the act. Aamir is now signed on as the new face of the brand, confirmed Vikram Mehra, chief marketing officer of Tata Sky. "We were really holding our breath when we approached Aamir with the concept, but he bought it."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Aug 2008 | 6:55 am My wardrobe in 'Dostana' has a beach vibe: Priyanka - MSN India
