Mallika shot for a special episode of the singing reality show Star Voice of India. Needless to say the participants and audience went hysterical seeing the diva herself. Mallika who plays 'Anarkali' in the film had to choose her 'Salim' and after watching everyone's performances she chose Zakir as her 'Salim' and even gifted him a ring. Needless to say he was maha-thrilled by her gesture. Mallika, who looked sizzling hot in a red dress, was even seen cheering judge Sukhwinder as he bogeyed. Luckily, Hansika escaped unharmed except for an injury to her hand. She was immediately taken to a hospital and after tending to her hand, was released in an hour. By now its common knowledge that Hansika has been busy managing her time shooting for Bollywood films and South films (not to mention also squeezing in some time for academics too). The thorough professional that she is, she didn't want to waste an entire day and turned up for the shoot despite being asked to take a day off. Singh Is Kinng - Yet another major success. The man behind each of the three films? Anees Bazmee, who is clearly the darling of the producers and distributors now as far as coming with a guarantee card which reads HIT at the box office. "Till date I have followed a simple adage - 'Apni tareef maine kabhi kari nahi aur naa hi doosro ki buraai' (I have neither hailed myself nor pulled anyone down). The same remains the case even after Singh Is Kinng. I stay on as the same simple person in spite of being in the industry for more than 30 years and rest assured I would be the same till I make my last film. I was accessible yesterday, I am approachable today as well," says Bazmee in a humble tone even as his Singh Is Kinng has now officially made a first week opening record all over. A point to be noted is that each of his successful films has boasted of top stars - Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha [Ajay Devgan, Kajol], Deewangee [Ajay Devgan], No Entry [Salman Khan], Welcome [Akshay Kumar] and now Singh Is Kinng [Akshay Kumar]. Has he ever faced any kind of pressure or challenge while making these films since he came with a certain responsibility of ensuring that his big films do not disappoint? I was chilled out during the process of making the film but it was only a month before the release that I started wondering whether the film would meet the huge expectations that all the buzz, hype and the track record of all of us associated with the film was generating. It was a welcome relief to be a part of such an unprecedented response." But honestly, isn't he worried about his next film which is tentatively titled It's My Life? Doesn't it bother him that Harman has just delivered a flop in Love Story 2050? "I won't lie that I am not nervous here," confessed Bazmee, "In fact, for the first time ever in my career as a director, I am under pressure. And let me be fair to the boy because it has nothing to do with him. It is more to do with an image that I am carrying now after No Entry, Welcome, and Singh Is Kinng. People out here have started expecting, and rightly so, that I should be giving a blockbuster with every film of mine. Of course, it is a great feeling of pride if they show such trust in you. But in such cases, you can't help but get ready for the pressure situation." Even though Victory would be Harman's next release, Bazmee's film is widely touted as a re-launch of sorts for the Baweja junior. "I am aware about such expectations and I am ready for the challenge," says the filmmaker. But the leading ladies Katrina and Lara will change. Says Sohail, "It's basically a brand name now. And Salmanbhai and Govinda are part of that brand. Govinda keeps embarrassing us by praising me and Bhai all the time. Come on, man. He is...Govinda!" Doesn't Sohail crave to be recognized as an actor outside home turf? "With our production house doing well, as an actor I don't have to be desperate. I'm not so ambitious as to put my whole and soul into an acting career. I can do solo-hero films. But I'd rather be part of bigger projects with Salmanbhai which will have a smooth-sailing to release. As a producer I know which projects will make it smoothly." So is Sohail okay with peripheral parts? "I'm happy being part of films with so-called big stars. I also like doing other things. I'm a producer. In fact we're in the process of lining up two more films for production next year both directed by David Dhawan. One is the sequel to Partner and the other is a remake of Amar Akbar Anthony (AAA) where I'll play Rishi Kapoor's role." The new AAA will be contemporized. "David will start that after Partner 2. AAA will be upgraded, like Farhan Akhtar did to Don." Sohail enjoys working with Salman. "There's no hassle no sense of one-upmanship, no double-hero ego problems and we share a great chemistry. So producers like signing us together. I was never supposed to be in Salaam-e-Ishq. My track was added much later. It had nothing to do with Salmanbhai. On the other, hand in my new film God Tussi Great Ho, Yash Tonk was originally doing my role. He even shot for four days. Then he got busy with his television. Yash is a friend. We did Fight Club together. It was an awkward situation for him. He called me up. And requested me to get into his shoes. Since it was Salmanbhai's film I didn't think twice." Sohail plays Priyanka Chopra's pal in God Tussi Great Ho and in Main Aur Mrs Khanna, he plays the man who has an unrequited love for Kareena. "I'm interested in her. But she's already Mrs Khanna." Says Sohail, "I'm very happy with the acting work that I do. Acting is only a part of my life. I want to produce, give time to my wife and son and spend time with my friends. Firstly, there were two big releases Bachna Ae Haseeno and God Tussi Great Ho which hit the marquee and then we at Bollywood Hungama even unveiled the first promos of two of the most keenly anticipated films this year - Karzzzz and Dostana. While the response to both the promos has been simply outstanding, special mention must be made of the buzz that the Karzzzz promo has managed to generate. The reasons for this are manifold. 1. Love him or hate him but you can't ignore Him-esh Reshammiya. Right from the time, the film was announced at a grand mahurat, expectations began soaring. Karzzzz is the second film of actor/ singer/ music composer Himesh Reshammiya after the super-successful Aap Ka Suroor- the Moviee. What sets apart Himesh from other leading actors, is the fact that he is not just acting but also singing and composing his own songs. While the trend is not much common in Bollywood, many of the top international stars like Michael Jackson, Britney Spears or Eminem have achieved tremendous fame doing the same. If Karzzz hits the bulls-eye, the day is not far when Himesh Reshammiya would be truly be considered as a rock-star belonging to an international league. 2. Karzzzz produced by Bhushan Kumar of T-Series and directed by Satish Kaushik is a remake of the 1980 classic Karz starring Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim and Simi Garewal. This unintentional subverted farce insults God and human beings alike. It pretends to say something deep and indelible. It ends up being as profound as a bowl of soggy noodles staring at you for edible nirvana. Arguably one of the most botched-up comedies in recent times, God Tussi Great Ho takes us into territory that the Khan brothers, Salman and Sohail, have been together in David Dhawan's Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya. The cartoon-like cat-and-mouse game between Salman and Sohail to get the perky pretty Priyanka's attentions is completely devoid of zing despite the familiar ring, though admittedly Sohail who's rapidly emerged as one of our most delightful comic actors (see him in Salaam-e-Ishq, Main PyarKyun Kiya and now this and watch him give bade bhai a run for his money) takes the lead. The inhouse channel- war between the two Khans is reminiscent of Shah Rukh-Juhi's comic competitiveness in Aziz Mirza's hugely underrated Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani. In fact, Sohail is wickedly inventive in a plot that pulls the characters down with each creaking push of the writer's pathetic pen. Who wrote this garbage? You wonder. And why must Mr. Bachchan be subjected to this sort of tripe trip at this juncture of his career? After Rishi Kapoor in Kunal Kohli's vastly-superior other-wordly satire Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, it's Mr Bachchan's turn to play God on a set that has a cascading waterfall, cotton-candy clouds and Salman suitably dressed in a formal suit. What's missing is the fizz in this askew cocktail. As a writer, Rumi Jafrey is on shockingly shaky grounds. Just like Salman's Volkswagon which changes colours from drab pink to bright red in the second-half when Salman gets godly powers from the 'real' God. Never mind. Because Priyanka's nose- ring changes from left nostril to right. That's about all that the narrative gets right in the trite second-half. The post-interval half is so crummy and scattered you wonder what happened to the director. Was he was on leave while God ghost-directed the second-half? Appalling in structure and abysmal in content God Tussi Great Ho is somewhat bearable for Sohail's comic aptitudes. And yes, Priyanka is easy on the eyes. Watch her in the soap ad on television rather than being part of a film where the characters are nothing more than a prop for the pale parody where all the colours come from the hyper-excited art director who was probably told to pull out all stops. And the highlight this time around was the personal touch which each of the stars brought around in their performances. Whether it was Big B or Abhishek or Ash or all the others traveling in the 'Unforgettable Tour', it was the 'special something' coming out of the interpersonal relationship between all which made the night in New York the one to remember. - An example of the personal touch over the evening was Amitabh Bachchan's 'Khush To Bahaut Hoge Tum' [Deewar] dialogue delivery. On any other evening so far, it was just another dialogue from a film, albeit an immensely famous one which has been regaling the audience for three decades now. However, this time around it was special since the evening was quite close to Big B's mother's anniversary. There was a personal touch involved as it was hard to find an eye which wasn't moist once Bachchan's speech reached its crescendo with 'Mujhe Meri Maa Wapas De Do'! - It was time for some more 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' kind of moments for the entire Bachchan 'parivaar' as for the first time in the history of all the concerts that Big B has been a part of, the number 'Teri Bindiya Re' [Abhimaan] was played. The way the entire sequence of events took place was also extra special since Ash escorted Amitabh Bachchan on stage while Abhishek did the same for Jaya Bachchan. Once together, Ash and Abhi handed over the hands of Amitabh and Jaya to each other while the song played in the background. A complete family affair! - Frankly, New York crowd wasn't really easy to win from the very beginning. The response was good but not magical, as had been the case with the shows preceding it. Bachchans and group decided that they had to make it something special, something magical which would get some high energy into the proceedings. Vowing to give audience much more than what they could have bargained for, the stars promised each other to go all out and make it happen. - This was inspiring enough for the youngsters as they brought in a certain momentum to their performances which literally forced the audience to get on their feet. In fact there was a stage when Vishal didn't quite worry about the security guidelines and jumped right into the crowd to get that 'personal touch'. With one of the composers of Om Shanti Om, Tashan and Bachna Ae Haseeno amongst them (Shekhar entertained the crowds while relegating himself to the boundary line set by the barricades), it was quite natural for the crowds to get ballistic. - Meanwhile, Shekhar's young daughter (named Bipasha) too made her stage debut as she joined Big B while the number 'Rang Barse' was on. It was a sweet moment as the cute little kid tried matching steps with a legend 60 years elder to her. This is the reason why, in future, when she would be reading through the chapters of history, this would certainly be one 'unforgettable' golden moment of her life. - The number 'Salaam Namaste' which Vishal and Shekhar have been performing on stage turned out to be special as well since everyone from Abhi to Ash joined Preity and Ritiesh as the song played on. The stage was nothing less than a party on the beach (just like the situation from the film by Siddharth Anand who has just delivered Bachna Ae Haseeno) with the song managing to truly liven up the audience. - There were some impromptu performances happening on stage as well and one of them was rendition of a rap track which is almost like an anthem for the New York crowds. Widely being famous as the New York theme rap, the track had Abhishek along with Vishal and Shekhar bringing on the thump. This took place soon after they were through with their trademark Gujarati folk track which is a part of the performance throughout the tour. This was THE moment since the locals were more than charmed with what they were a part of and from this moment on, there was no looking back with each heart truly been won! - Much more than satisfied with the way the evening went by, the stars now head for London where they would be performing after a break of more than one week.
