Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 15 Aug 2008 | 11:41 am "Even Manmohan Desai didn't make films for critics" - Anees BazmeeSingh Is Kinng has now officially taken the best opening ever and trends indicate that it all set to enjoy an all time high first week collections. While Akshay Kumar is of course turning out to be darling of the masses, the man behind the scenes - Anees Bazmee - can't stop smiling. He now has three mega money spinners in a row - No Entry, Welcome and now Singh Is Kinng. Isn't he elated that no other filmmaker in recent times has been able to achieve this feat? "I don't mean disrespect to any other director but even on thinking hard, I don't thing anyone in last 15-20 years has been able to achieve such love and acceptance from the audience. Box office numbers are a clear indicator of audience's enthusiasm about the film. I am very happy that my film has been liked and is already garnering repeat audiences. Bottom line is for a film to be loved and run well at theaters", says Anees Bazmee who continues to be as relaxed and soft spoken as always. Though audience has clearly given a thumbs-up to the film, a section of critics have chosen to rip the film apart. Isn't this pretty much on the same lines as the 'masala' phase of the late 70s and 80s when Manmohan Desai used to make back to back super-hits but would be panned by critics every time for carrying a similar texture and theme for his films? "Manji was a great filmmaker. He had no pretensions about the kind of cinema he wanted to make and his track record pretty much indicates that", says Bazmee who too is seemingly following the same commercial roadmap, "Even he didn't make films for critics; he made them for the 'aam junta'. Call it formulaic, call it clichéd, call it unabashedly commercial - the fact remains that one has to serve to the audience what entertains them most. Seriously, when crores of people out there love your film, should one really be concerned about making these 4-5 critics happy?" Humble as ever, Bazmee confesses that his phone hasn't stopped ringing ever since Thursday preview night, "I continue to be the same man as I always have been. Why should I change? At the end of the day, it is not the man who changes; it is the time, situations and circumstances around you that change. The best way to be sane and carry on with your work with the right earnest is to stay rooted."Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 15 Aug 2008 | 11:14 am Jade Goody to take part in 'Bigg Boss 2'Jade Goody, thrown out of Britain's 'Big Brother' television show after bullying BollSource: India News | 15 Aug 2008 | 11:07 am Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur re-titled as Welcome To SajjanpurWe all know that whenever any Bollywood film is being made, it mostly has two titles, the first is the working title and the second is the confirmed title. But the following news is bound to turn the general norms of film titling. Some days back, when the master filmmaker Shyam Benegal had announced his first plunge in the comedy arena with Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur starring Shreyas Talpade and Amrita Rao, little did he know that he will land up renaming the same as Welcome To Sajjanpur. For starters, the film shows Shreyas playing 'Mahadev', the only literate person amongst the illiterates in a village called Sajjanpur. Not many know that it's actually the sets of Ramoji studios that got converted into a small village called Sajjanpur. And whenever the cast used to report on the sets, it had almost become a ritual that they used to greet each other by saying "Welcome To Sajjanpur". That's when Shreyas hit upon an idea and requested Shyam Benegal to rename the film as Welcome To Sajjanpur, a suggestion that Shyam loved so much that he immediately renamed the film from Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur to Welcome To Sajjanpur. Way to go, Shreyas!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Aug 2008 | 11:03 am The repressed Bangladeshi wife in Brick Lane transforms into a pole dancerTannistha Chatterjee who has won rave global reviews for her performance as the repressed Bangladeshi housewife from London in Brick Lane is about to startle us-and herself-out of our collective pants. Yup, that sari-clad demure docile actress from Brick Lane turns into a pole dancer in a new British film. Yet untitled, this chick flick about two immigrants in London is directed by the Brick Lane director Sarah Gavron. "Hard to believe, isn't it?" Tannishtha laughs from London where she's rehearsing for the film. "It's the story of two pole dancers in London. One from East Europe and one Mauritian. It's about these two women's contrasting attitude to life. They're friends in the beginning and then through time and different situations and hardships in their respective lives they fall apart. It is about that dark side that we have in us. My character is really interesting. She's someone who lives in a false world. Nothing she says about herself is true. She is a compulsive liar." While Tannishtha plays the Mauritian pole dancer, the Romanian actress Anamaria Marina (from the film 4 Months 3 Weeks & 2 Days) plays the European dancer. Interestingly Tannishtha is researching and practising hard for the pole dancer's role. "We're rehearsing for the film and evolving the final script through the process. It is really interesting. I'm working with the same director as Brick Lane. So there's a comfort level." So will Tannistha strip, a la Demi More in Striptease? "Not much. Pole dancing dancing doesn't necessarily mean stripping. Is that a disappointment?" the actress laughs.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 15 Aug 2008 | 10:53 am Bigg Boss gets court nod minus Faisal Khan - Times of India

These are the films that have drawn the audiences time and again to the cinema halls, thus invoking the patriotic fervor. This world is beautiful and, by love we can eradicate all the hatred from this world, and thus it a better place to live in. And my all-time favourite patriotic film is Rang De Basanti. Genelia D'Souza We should utmost value our Independence Day and should become better citizens. It's only if we take the pledge and the initiative of becoming better citizens, our country will improve. And my favourite patriotic film is Rang De Basanti. Sajid Khan I think we need to be proud to be an Indian, and be united. Moreover, we should also respect our country heartfelt. Arjun Rampal We have to come together in the coming elections to make sure that we have a strong government. Because, until and unless we don't give mandate to the single party, we can't really progress. I think we haven't made any as such good patriotic film till know. Vikram Bhatt We should completely become selfless and should work towards the growth of the country. I think each person's small step will make a huge difference. I just cannot recollect any patriotic film but 'Ae Mere Watan Ke Logo' is my favorite patriotic song. Sonal Chauhan I think everyone should enjoy the freedom that we have got due to the pain and trauma that our leaders underwent for us. This week it would be the rising star Ranbir Kapoor. Though he is half the age of Sanjay Dutt, Ranbir promises as much 'maza', if not more, as he appears on the 'Sajid Superstars' show which coincides with the release of Bachna Ae Haseeno. Going by the tradition, we at Bollywood Hungama bring to you some exclusive tidbits on what to expect from this weekend's episode. - Once a towel boy, always a towel boy. In this special episode, he gets into a Saawariya like jig yet again and reprises the 'naked' moments that he lived while shooting for this Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. Not just that, he also teaches Sajid Khan as well as his television audience on how to dance without letting the towel fall on the ground! - Quiz section on the show promises to be an interesting watch. While Ranbir successfully answers all questions centered on his love Deepika Padukone, he falters (unbelievable) when it comes to a couple of questions pertaining to his parents Rishi and Neetu Kapoor! - Sajid gets up, close and personal with Ranbir by asking him about his choice of five most beautiful women with whom he would want to get into a relationship with. While Deepika is an obvious choice, he doesn't shy taking Sonam Kapoor's name as well. However, there is a shocker in store with Sharon Stone (who is now in her 50s) being his preferred choice as well. Who were the other two? Well, the episode would pretty much reveal it all as Ranbir is caught in a tell-tale mood! - Apparently, before entering the industry as a lead actor, Ranbir had got into an altercation with Salman where tempers had soared so high that Ranbir found his clothes being torn away. Continuing his 'revealing' mood, Ranbir goes on to disclose the 'real story' about what went wrong with Salman Khan a few years back. - Recollecting his journey from behind the scenes to getting in front of the camera, Ranbir talks about his days as an assistant director cum spot boy cum everything else when he worked with the likes of Rishi Kapoor (Aa Ab Laut Chale), Chimpu Kapoor (Prem Granth) and of course Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Black). He didn't mince any words when being asked about the toughest task master amongst the three. Was it Rishi, Chimpu or Bhansali? - Now this one could go into the 'Did You Know' category. Apparently, respective fathers of Ranbir and Sajid had acted together in a film a few decades back. It is nostalgia time as the two talk about this comedy film which incidentally also starred Neetu Singh. Any guesses? - Sajid also pops Ranbir what could perhaps be the most scandalous question that he would have faced in his year long stardom. The question reads - 'Is Ranbir a bisexual?' What did Ranbir answer to this? Well, tune in to Sajid's Superstars at 10:00 PM, Saturday on the newly launched channel COLORS to find about this and a lot more!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 15 Aug 2008 | 8:59 am A dream comes true for Vishal - Newindpress

While in Chandigarh for the shoot of his soon to be released Fashion, he was also conferred the 'Pride of India' award. The award came from All India Anti Terrorist Front (AIATF). "The award was quite an honor since it came from a renowned non-political and non-sectarian organization like AIATF which is committed to foster a spirit of intellectual inquiry, understanding and goodwill amongst all people. It was also a matter of pride because the man who presented me the award was Mr. Maninderjit Singh Bitta who is known as 'Zinda Shaheed' for his extra ordinary contribution when it comes to fight against terrorism." Madhur was awarded this title for his extra ordinary contribution to Indian Cinema with his recent National Award for Traffic Signal getting special mention. "I am very glad to achieve this high honor. My movies are not explosive, maybe they just hold up a mirror to society. My movies are not judgmental, I just show what happens in our society, sometimes there could be a solution and sometimes there may be none. Life goes on", says Madhur Bhandarkar. Talking about awards, he would be visiting Delhi again on 2nd September for an event which would see him collecting his National Award for the Best Director from President Mrs. Pratibha Patil. Meanwhile, the city of Chandigarh also saw him wrapping up a quick fire schedule featuring Priyanka Chopra. Other prominent actors who joined her in the shoot were Raj Babbar and Kiran Juneja. "The scenes we canned are critical to the film's plot and we chose to be in Chandigarh rather than a set in Mumbai since we wanted authenticity to the proceedings. The character played by Priyanka is shown to be an upcoming model from Chandigarh and we wanted to bring the essence of the city alive in the scenes", informs Madhur. With the film being pre-poned to 17th October, how well placed is Fashion to meet the deadline? "There aren't any worries as we are on the right track. Just a few days of work remains to be wrapped up and we should be all set for the post production work", says Madhur confidently.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 14 Aug 2008 | 11:20 am Jessica Simpson wants to be the next Dolly PartonLondon (ANI): American pop singer Jessica Simpson has revealed that she hopes to be like legendary country singer Dolly Parton.
