The Unforgettable Tour Diary: Day 23 - Backstage drama excites Atlantic City audience

- 'Unforgettable' reached the Atlantic City over the weekend gone by and it was sheer glitter and glamour of the city which was to be seen to be believed. Boasting of the kind of sheen which befits ornamental beauty, the city seemed to be shining in gold all over. Add to that the hotel arrangements which provided a truly luxurious setting, courtesy rooms boasting of Jacuzzis and all around mirror designing! - Apart from the high that stars got on stage, off stage too it was quite some fun, especially for Riteish Deshmukh. On his visit to a neighborhood casino, he went on to make as much as 5000 dollars for himself and that too in mere 10 minutes. Shekhar wasn't that lucky though since he ended up poorer by 500 dollars. Well, koyi jeeta koyi haara! - There is an interesting anecdote around Om Shanti Om. While in India the film saw its satellite premiere over the weekend gone by, far off in USA as well the film made its presence felt. Apparently, as Vishal and his band chose to travel in their bus while enjoying a road trip from New York to Atlantic City, the driver chose to play Om Shanti Om. Though everyone was aware about the merits and credentials of the film, the local bodyguards of Vishal were taken by surprise when they detected the composer in his one scene act (Readers may remember that Vishal played the role of an assistant director in the second half of the film). - Coming to the show, it boasted of a 14000 odd strong crowd. Yet again, there were million odd obstacles which came in way of the stars before they set their feet on stage. However, it was collective will of each of them which made sure that not a single shoulder sagged and no dip in morale was evidenced. Backing each other in the worst of adversities, it was time for stars to come up with yet another 'paisa vasool' entertainment. - Well, 'paisa vasool' entertainment it certainly was for the audience, though more so for a section of crowd which was seated at a strategic point from where backstage was visible. While performance of a particular star was on at the stage, the others stood behind the scenes and kept themselves entertained. The same happened when Big B was holding the center-stage. As Abhishek, Madhuri, Ash, Preity, Vishal, Shekhar and Riteish were jumping and dancing around in their green room, one of them realized that they all were visible to the audience! - For a moment, they were taken aback since this was least expected. However, realizing that this particular section of crowd was thrilled to see their off-stage antics, Abhishek got into his trademark prankster mode and started pegging the audience. While he was having fun with his fans, he even pulled in Ash who was oblivious to all the happening. The moment she was conned into being exposed from backstage, it was but natural for the audience to go completely mad. No wonder, at any point of time, there were two streams of cheering happening - one for the man/woman on stage and other for those who were back stage. - Meanwhile high energy continued to be the strong point at Atlantic City as well. While Amitabh Bachchan was performing, Vishal and Shekhar along with Abhishek and Riteish joined him for an impromptu act. Abhishek went a step ahead and pegged Ash and Preity to have a closer look at the performance while only ending up in pushing them on the stage right in front of the audience. And all of this when the ladies just didn't see it coming! It was time for some point-in-time act out there. - There were some on-stage mishaps though which seemed to be slightly threatening. Vishal fell on his injured knee (yet again, he has a long history in terms of minor accidents) and got into a horrible stage where he couldn't even move on stage. He did go ahead with a round of painkillers and thankfully the damage didn't turn out to be overtly serious. However, this was one situation which he really wanted to avoid on this long tour. - For Preity Zinta it was turning out to be a special evening since Vishal and Shekhar dropped 'Dil Dance Maare' [Tashan] to accommodate the title song of 'Salaam Namaste' as a part of their performance. While Preity indeed wanted to join them on stage for the chartbuster number from her film, she could not since she was dressed up for the 'Bhoombhro' [Mission Kashmir] act which was to follow next. Wearing a Kashmiri outfit for a beach song didn't quite seem to fit into the scheme of things after all! - From the Saturday night fever at Atlantic City, the stars headed for Chicago where the event was waiting to kick start in less than 24 hours. It was time for some quick rest to be followed by yet another evening of glitz, glamour and energy!

Salman gifts a Raj Kapoor painting to Ranbir

No matter how tough Salman Khan looks from outside, he is an ultra soft side which not many people know of. Well, after having gained the reputation of being the proverbial Bad Boy of Bollywood, its only time for Salman to show his soft side. And what better platform for it then his popular game show 10 Ka Dum. The episode in question had Ranbir Kapoor along with his (onscreen) leading ladies Deepika and Minissha Lamba, who were on the 'Independence Day' special show to promote their forthcoming film Bachna Ae Haseeno. Even as they were shooting, Ranbir got very emotional because they were shooting at RK Studios. An emotion-filled Ranbir said that his grandfather (the late Raj Kapoor) shot his first film Aag in that studio, while his dad (Rishi Kapoor) shot for his first film Bobby there and now he too was shooting at the same place! Salman made the evening even more memorable for the teenage heartthrob Ranbir by presenting him a painting of Raj Kapoor that he specially painted for the chalet he has at RK. Way to go, Salman!

Hope this film also does well" And what's the status of Rocking Dard-e-Disco, "I am acting as well as composing the music for this film. The film also stars Rituparna Sengupta, Sneha Ullal but the lady opposite me is yet to be finalized." The Unforgettable Tour Diary: Day 24 - It's time for Olympic cheers and costume goofs

- This time around, the word 'Unforgettable' was more suited for the stars themselves than the audience. Reason? News of Abhinav Bindra winning an Olympic Gold spread like a wild fire and though everyone out there was elated, the man who was seen celebrating most was none other than Amitabh Bachchan. He wasn't making any effort whatsoever to conceal his excitement and was more than vocal in letting everyone know about him being overjoyed at India's moment of pride! - Talking about Olympics, apart from performing on stage (obviously) and blogging (obviously...again!), Amitabh Bachchan is constantly cued in on all the recent happenings at the biggest sporting event. He is watching the sport in all the time available to him and is not just aware about everything interesting which is happening on a day to day basis but also well versed with the medal tally and the works. He was as excited as a child the moment news broke about Bindra winning Gold Medal for the country. - Meanwhile on stage, he was doing his part and winning his audience time and again. A cast was spell on Chicago crowd as Big B continued to pull something or the other out of his magic hat. Hit dialogues from his yesteryear films, trademark dance step of 'Jahaan Teri Yeh Nazar Hai' [Kaalia], the title track from Don - everything just added on to spellbind the audience. - For the first time in the US leg of the tour, there was no Madhuri Dixit to join the stars. However, youngsters took it on them along with Big B to ensure that her absence was compensated for by their bravura act. It was a small venue which could accommodate 9000 people but the buzz is that an additional 2000 paved their way into the venue. Yet another night. Yet another event. And some more magic! - The venue boasted of huge production values and as stated by quite a few members from the audience as well as promoters, the city had never witnessed any Bollywood show like this before. LED screens were all over with special electronic curtains creating a surreal feel. Wizcraft, people behind 'Unforgettable', were in their complete elements here and they put their Commonwealth Games experience to full use here. The stars are especially excited about the man named Paul who has come up with a fantabulous job while playing the role of an outstanding technician. - Talking of people behind the stage, Vishal can't ever forget a lady by the name of Noreen! It could have been one messy Sunday but Noreen ensured that there was no letdown whatsoever. Read on to know what really happened! - Apparently, Vishal's costumes went missing and there was no time to launch a search. Reason? The show had to begin at 7:00 PM and it was already 6:20 PM. Stationed at his hotel, Vishal had to get something on to suit the mood of the stage and performance. This is where Noreen came to his rescue! She took him to a nearby mall and used her fashion experience to the fullest. In 20 minutes flat, she along with Vishal ran from one store to another, picked up stuff, didn't bother trying them out, dumped them into one huge bag and rushed to the venue. Of course, it was a fun of a different kind which Vishal got out of the entire experience. - Meanwhile buzz continues to be high all over the USA, courtesy an aggressive promotion and publicity which is happening in New York - the epicenter of all the action. At Times Square, every 5 minutes there is an advertisement of 'Unforgettable' which has been playing throughout the tour duration. Now that's quite a high for the troupe since this prominent advertising junction has been witness to some of the top international stars enjoying this kind of coverage. - After all the weekend fun, it is time to chill out, relax, watch some films and hang out in general for all the stars. From here, it is going to be Independence Day celebrations with New York being a witness to an 'Unforgettable' concert slated to take place on 15th August.

"Now it's time to begin shooting for London Dreams" - Vipul Shah

Champagne bottles are being uncorked in dozens as Vipul Shah along with his friends and family continue their week long celebrations with Singh Is Kinng taking a record breaking weekend opening all over. Was he really foreseeing the film to take such a swashbuckling start all over even by the widest stretch of imagination? "Frankly speaking, I wasn't", says Vipul honestly, "You never know which way the audience turns. You may feel that you have made a good film but there are so many factors which could pull it down. For example, on Monday, there were some shows in Mumbai which got impacted due to heavy rains. Now imagine something like this happening over the first weekend itself. Such unforeseen factors could make so much difference to a film's performance." As one looks forward to an almost certain first week opening record of all times, Vipul Shah is already set to get started on his next project. "Now it's time to begin shooting for London Dreams", says the soft spoken filmmaker who has tasted blood with his very first production Singh Is Kinng, "After having another person direct a film, I am now raring to get behind the camera myself. In exactly a month from now, shooting would kick start for London Dreams. 14th September is going to be the D-day!" Incidentally this would be Vipul's first film ever which won't star Akshay Kumar in the lead. While Akshay has played an integral role in the success of each of the four films coming from Vipul Shah (Aankhen, Waqt, Namastey London and Singh Is Kinng), London Dreams would be featuring Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan. "It's going to be my first ever outing with both Salman and Ajay, I am looking forward to the experience", says Vipul who has now delivered four consecutive successful films in a short span of 6 years. Buzz is that London Dreams is a story of two childhood friends, who struggle to become rock stars in London. The film was earlier supposed to be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi but the project was later shelved. Vipul Shah came into the picture a little later and took over the reins of the project. He is now producing as well as directing the film. "It has been nice celebrating all along post the success of Singh Is Kinng. However, one can't continue to do that forever. Yes, I am cherishing the success which has come my way but it should be business as usual in quick time. It is going to be quite an engaging season from here on since I am planning to bring the film somewhere in May/June 2009 timeframe. That's less than a year", concludes Vipul.

Akshay's 'Cold' treatment by Vipul Shah

If you are wondering why Akshay sounds uncharacteristically nasal and toned-down in Singh Is Kinng, producer Vipul Shah gives the answer. "Akshay had a fierce cold while dubbing. There was no way we could postpone. So we used his nasal voice and Akshay even added a line in the dialogue about his character having a terrible zukaam" The Friday agitations by the Students Sikh Federation about the 'wrong' depiction of Sikhs at a theatre in Amritsar has left producer Vipul Shah agitated "My film has grossed 46-48 crore rupees over the first weekend. That's more than Om Shanti Om and Welcome which had the highest opening so far. So obviously the film has been liked. I can't please every single Sikh. Who are these agitators? This is nothing but a shortcut to fame. The boys of the Sikh Youth Federation must've thought that when the Delhi Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee protested, Akshay rushed to Delhi. In Amritsar they must've thought this is their way of getting Akshay into Amritsar. Surely there're easier ways of getting stars' attention. And Akshay couldn't spend one year moving from city to city appeasing the imagined hurt of self-appointed champions of the Sikh community. These are people who don't respect the opinion the highest authorities of their community who've said there's nothing objectionable in Singh Is Kinng. All the important and powerful bodies of the Sikh community cleared the film. What were these boys on Friday protesting about? They said they hadn't even seen the film. They just said it was an insult to Sikhism. But in what way?" Vipul feels there are professional protestors who jump up in protest against any culture-specific cinema. "They feel somehow their culture will be threatened when on the contrary, culture-specific films like Jodhaa-Akbar and Singh Is Kinng pay a homage to the people and culture of a community." On Friday 300 Sikhs saw Singh Is Kinng at Cinemax in Mumbai. "They were dancing the Bhangra with dhols after the screening. They told a news channel that this was the first film in 70 years of Indian cinema that had done justice to the Sikh community. What more endorsement for our motives can there be?" Vipul admits his guilt on the beard issue. "We admit Akshay's beard should've been longer. We added a scene where Akshay says he made a mistake by trimming his beard. And in the video with Snoop Dogg during the end titles he comes with a full beard, albeit a false one. It'd have taken Akshay two years to grow a natural beard. We had told the Shirmoni Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee that the beard would be false, and they had agreed" Vipul wants a law whereby freedom of expressions cannot be curbed. "The final authority on right and wrong in a film should be the censor board. Once the censors approve, all protests should be crushed with iron hands. Otherwise all of us should just fold up our production houses. I'm not disrespecting Sikh sentiments. So please stop hounding me for nothing." Vipul Shah couldn't be in a happier place. "The opening of Singh Is Kinng has been incredible. Business everywhere has been thundering. But I can only rest easy after the first two weeks. I'm glad that in spite of being a comedy, Singh Is Kinng isn't vulgar. I gave my director Anees Bazmi the freedom to do what he likes. I only wanted him to tell a morally correct story. I didn't want to flinch while watching it with my sons."

Download image as wallpaper Akshay's on-screen jodi with Katrina is giving Salman heartache and sleepless nights. This news-report in a daily yesterday created a mini-storm in the industry. After all, Akshay and Katrina make a fabulous jodi [on screen, of course] and the professional that she is, Katrina wouldn't want to sacrifice her career advantage [Akshay] for her personal life [Salman]. Shooting in New York for Kabeer Khan's film with John Abraham, Katrina hardly sounded perturbed by the story. "I've stopped reacting to these stories. Why would Salman stop me from acting with Akshay? Salman has never stopped me. If he had an issue, would Akshay and I participate in an episode of 10 KA DUM?" Katrina tells me. Which means that if a producer offers her a film with Akshay, she would take it up instantly? "Of course, yes! Why shouldn't I work with Akshay? He's an excellent co-star. Please don't believe these silly stories," Katrina adds. The clarification should silence the rumour mills!

"We could well feel that RD Burman was there to guide us" - Vishal Dadlani

Over the fortnight, the music video of the title song of Bachna Ae Haseeno has been playing on and the response has been simply phenomenal. Choreographed by Ahmed Khan and directed by Siddharth Anand himself, the video is the highlight of this Yash Raj production since it has Ranbir Kapoor sharing the same frame with three beautiful ladies - Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone and Minissha Lamba. However, apart from the presence of these stars and some well-designed moves by Ahmed Khan, the factor responsible for this video turning out an excellent watch is Panchamda himself. Seems like he blessed the crew from up there in the heavens as the video was shot on the same date when he was born (June 27). "Isn't that amazing? We could well feel that he was there to guide us in making sure that we did full justice to his song which has been a craze since three decades," says Vishal Dadlani who, along with Shekhar, has given a new spin to the yesteryear number by bringing on Kishore's son Sumeet Kumar as well behind the mike. If this wasn't a good enough divine intervention, there was more coincidence to come. Although unbelievable, it is true that June 28 is Vishal's birthday and coincidently the day, the shooting of the music video was wrapped up. "Being a true R.D. Burman follower, I have always felt blessed to be born on a day after my idol. Now with Bachna Ae Haseeno, I also got a platform to celebrate my birthday on the film's sets. Even as the spirit of this evergreen number kept Ranbir and company charged throughout these two days, we knew that up there even Panchamda must have been smiling to see the spin the current generation has taken on his creation," says an emotionally charged Vishal. Coming back to the song, while Ranbir does immensely well in jumping and dancing around to the beats of R.D. Burman/ Vishal-Shekhar, each of the three ladies too makes sure that their presence is very much felt as they burn the dance floor. No wonder, the film has managed to gather great momentum with the arrival of this song, which has ensured that next few days would be an interesting journey for everyone involved. Trivia: - Vishal-Shekhar's Jhankaar Beats (2003) starring Sanjay Suri, Rahul Bose, Juhi Chawla & Rinkie Khanna was sort of a tribute to RD Burman, wherein Suri & Bose play musicians who revere RD Burman & his music & whose music is influenced by Burman. There was a remix version of Burmans popular Kishore Kumar number 'Humein Tumse Pyaar Kitna' (Kudrat) which was integral to the film. - Vishal and Shekhar had won the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent for Jhankaar Beats.

Pyramid Saimira to release Mukhbiir on August 29

Click above for more stills Pyramid Saimira the new entrants in the corporate world of Bollywood have not had a very good run so far. They started with releasing Raj Kumar Santoshi's Halla Bol in January 2008 and then went on to releasing some inconsequential films. Their latest release Mukhbiir directed by Mani Shankar of 16th December fame and produced by Sudhish Ramabhotla of Color Chips Entertainment seemed like a film which could help them make a mark in Hindi cinema. The film has been in the news since its first screening at the Osian Film Festival. The money back guarantee promised by the producers may just be a marketing gimmick but did help a film of this nature to get noticed. Inspite of all the right attention, Pyramid Saimira failed to release Mukhbiir on July 11 as publicized. There are various reasons doing the rounds. While some believe that Pyramid was unable to get the right theaters inspite of having a strong distribution background, another rumor doing the rounds is that they faced some issues with the multiplex association. The long-drawn differences between producer Sudhish Ramabhotla and director Mani Shankar is also a strong reason for the cancellation of July 11 as a possible release date. The issues and problems seemed to have been taken care of. Mukhbiir is now slated for August 29, confirms Paresh Manjrekar (distribution – Pyramid Saimira). Producer Sudhish Ramabhotla confirmed the same saying, "Yes, Pyramid has confirmed August 29. Since decision regarding distribution is their responsibility.” Purvi Shah COO western region at Pyramid was non-committal said, "We will be releasing the film by end August or early September for sure.” Sudhir N.R. who was initially the spokesperson at Pyramid for Mukhbir and was rigorously promoting the money- back scheme remained unavailable for comment. Whether August 29 or September 5, looks like Mukhbiir will be hitting the theaters very soon. Now what's worth watching is whether this film, which has been carrying positive reports inspite of being surrounded by controversies from the beginning will be able to make a dent at the box office like films in the past have, whether it was Bheja Fry, which released after years of delay or Taare Zameen Par, which too was surrounded with controversies between producer and director. Guess the industry, which has had a dismal year so far and lead actor Sammir Dattani who is counting on this film to make a difference to his career, will be praying hard.

Ranbir, Deepika and Minissha play 10 Ka Dum with Salman Khan

These days, as and when a new film opens across cinema halls every Friday, you have the cast and crew making its presence felt on various reality shows to promote the film. After all, the number of eyeballs which T.V. manages to catch is unparalleled. With Yash Raj Films' Bachna Ae Haseeno set to open across cinema halls this week (Aug 15), the film's cast (comprising of Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Minissha Lamba) shot for a special episode of Salman Khan's game show 10 Ka Dum. The episode promises to be complete fun as the trio indulges in a lot of masti and dhamaal with apna Sallu bhai. What's more, whoever feels that two actresses cannot be friends need to check out the camaraderie shared between Deepika and Minissha. It was good to see Minissha egg Deepika to give her best smile for the camera and later Deepika too ensured that Minissha did not feel left out while she and Ranbir made a star couple on the show. Even Ranbir showered equal attention on both his leading ladies. While Bipasha Basu was certainly missed on the show, Salman along with the Bachna Ae Haseeno gang literally brought the house down with his antics. As for how much prize money the trio actually managed to win, one would have to wait and watch the special episode. However, going by the expressions on their faces, they sure seemed to have won a significant amount of money. This fun-filled episode airs on Sony Entertainment Television on Aug 15 at 9pm IST.

"Chandni Chowk to China is a Children's Film" - Nikhil Advani

Here is shocker from Nikhil Advani, "Chandni Chowk to China is a children's film. I don't think kids will try to attempt to climb the nearest wall to fight after watching the film. But I think we'll have lots of kids joining karate classes." Before making his mirthful martial-arts film, Nikhil Advani sat down with his leading man Akshay Kumar and watched many number of karate flicks. "Before I started making this film my interest in the martial arts was restricted to Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Bruce Lee, and the 'Crouching Tigers' of the world. But Akshay Kumar brought out the hidden dragon in me. He made me watch a lot of action scenes. Before we left for China he'd make me sit down every morning and make me watch one Kung Fu film and explain the subtexts. By the time we left to shoot I understood the martial arts much better." "All the shooting is done," sighs a fatigued Advani. "Finally, we Indians have invaded China. We were gone for 95 days. We shot for 89 days in Shanghai and in the interiors of China and lots of action sequences on top of the Great Wall Of China." Nikhil was being pushed into a Diwali release. "But the post-production is very complicated. The action sequences are like nothing we generally see. The story doesn't stop. The action builds the plot and characters. We've shot it exactly the way we want. I don't want to rush the release. Akshay's superstardom isn't going away anywhere." The film has been inspired by Akshay Kumar's real-life story. "The film's flavor comes from Akshay's real life. He's a boy from Chandni Chowk who went to Bangkok as a cook. My writer Sridhar Raghavan wrote the role with Akshay's real-life story in mind. The character's personality comes alive through Akshay. Thanks to him we finished ahead of schedule."
