Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 8 Aug 2008 | 5:50 pm Singh Is not Kinng in Amritsar, PunjabSingh Is Kinng, the much awaited film of the recent times opened with a bang today all across the country and all thanks to the pre-publicity overdrive, it has also got the cash registers ringing for its makers. But not all is well for the film, as around 20 Sikh youths indulged in pelting of stones at the Annam theatre in Amritsar, Punjab, and the reason cited as the film depicts the Sikh community in a deformed style. These protestors were armed with swords and portraits of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala, the slain militant leader. Even though the police arrived on time and took charge of the situation, they were unable to nab the protestors as they had fled the scene immediately after the police's arrival. What comes as a surprise to everyone is that the film's director Anees Bazmee had always mainlined that there were objections from the Sikh community pertaining to certain scenes in the film, but they had been reshot and the final resultant was approved by the community. The situation now is that there are armed security personnel who have been posted at the theatres screening the film in Amritsar.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 Aug 2008 | 4:59 pm 'Jaane Tu' star Manjari to make Tamil film debutManjari, who rose to fame as Imran Khan's girlfriend in this year's hit film "JaaneSource: India News | 8 Aug 2008 | 4:55 pm Manoj Kumar wins case against OSO
Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 8 Aug 2008 | 4:03 pm Sanju baba as never before on Sajid Superstars'Sajid Superstars' is only two episodes down (Riteish Deshmukh, Anil Kapoor) and is already creating quite some excitement amongst those who love to watch their Bollywood idols chatting and getting really naughty on the small screen. As Sajid Khan gets talking to Sanjay Dutt in the upcoming episode of 'Sajid Superstar', at Bollywood Hungama we bring to you some EXCLUSIVE tidbits on what to expect from this weekend's episode. - The show is meant to be a candid take on affairs and the one with Sanjay Dutt is going to be no different. In a heart to heart chat, he speaks about the time spent in jail over the years gone by and how he has come out stronger after each and every stint. He also talks about his drug history and how even at this age, he is back to body building with a vengeance. - In one of the lighter moments on the show, Sanju baba discloses that his driver's name is, hold your breath (literally), 'Paad'! No wonder, when he is being driven around in the city, the car windows are always found to be down! - In what is expected to be the highlight of the show, Sanjay Dutt gets emotional about his estranged relationship with Sanjay Gupta. He bares all about what went wrong, without really going hammers and tongs on the issue. - Since the show is supposed to be emotional, catty, bitchy as well as a little naughty, Sajid gives Sanjay Dutt an assignment. An assignment where Sanjay Dutt has to do some 'sit-up comedy' by cracking a joke while being seated on the couch. As would be there for everyone to see in the episode, Sanjay Dutt does such a great job that Sajid ends up giving him a perfect 10 for his act. - Getting into the past, Sanjay Dutt turns nostalgic about his appearance in a film called Khatron Ka Khiladi. He recollects that how director T. Rama Rao wanted him to get some 'shark' in his expressions. Startled at the demand of the situation, he went on to ask him many a times that how he could get a 'shark' expression. As it turned out, in his own accent, Rama Rao was actually asking for 'shock' while speaking it out as 'shark'. To add fun to the proceedings, Sanjay Dutt even goes on to act out the entire scene in exactly the same manner that Rama Rao did while explaining it to him! - Of course a Sajid Khan show is bound to have a scandalous angle to it. Well, a scandal is ready to be unearthed this weekend as well with Sanjay Dutt confessing about the number of women he has been with. While Sajid asks him to pick an option between 0-50, 50-100, 100-150 and so on, Dutt goes on to actually make his pick. What did Sanjay Dutt say on record? Well, to know more, tune in to Sajid's Superstars at 10:00 PM, Saturday on the newly launched channel COLORS.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 Aug 2008 | 3:34 pm Mallika wins court case against her tenantDownload image as wallpaper Her last release Ugly Aur Pagli may not have taken the B.O. by storm but that doesn't mean that Mallika Sherawat won't continue to be in the news. The latest is that the Bollywood bombshell has won a civil court to get her rented property in North Delhi vacated from a tenant who had not paid his rent dues. The property located at Dr. Mukherjee Nagar area of Delhi was given on rent by Mallika to Anuj Kumar Aggarwal (proprietor of M/S Career Plus) through a lease in January, 1998 with the condition that there would be an annual increase of 20 per cent in rent. In a suit filed by Mallika's brother Vikram Lamba sometime in 2007, it was alleged that the enhanced rent was not paid by Aggarwal and hence a decree of possession was sought besides recovering the arrears rent. However, the court dismissed her plea stating that there was not enough evidence to substantiate the same. Now having won the case, Mallika will surely heave a sigh of relief.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 Aug 2008 | 3:07 pm Irrfan Khan's K.I.L.B. revealedThe advertising industry today is witnessing a trend of sorts these days. Gone are the days when it used models to promote any products. The latest fad is roping in film stars and creating a hype around the product (in the marketing lingo, it's called as a 'teaser campaign'). The latest Bollywood actor to be roped in for such a teaser campaign is none other than Irrfan Khan, whose posters have been pasted all over the city asking everyone about 'K.I.L.B'. A lot of people (including the ones from the ad fraternity) have even challenged their lives on betting that the teaser campaign was indeed an extension of a leading cellphone service provider, of which Irrfan has been the Brand Ambassador. Well, as the city is still searching for the much-awaited answer, Bollywood Hungama has gone ahead and done the needful. The fact is that K.I.L.B. stands for (Kum Insurance Lene Ki Bimari) and the product is the leading life insurance company, Aegon Religare. Don't we deserve a good pat on the back for our work? What say guys!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 Aug 2008 | 2:57 pm Imran takes on Sanjay in Kidnap
Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 8 Aug 2008 | 2:31 pm "Ranbir and I are similar minded" - Bipasha BasuWhile most Bollywood stars do everything they can to appear cool, professional and squeaky-clean, diligently concealing all their nasty little secrets, Bipasha Basu appears wholly unconcerned by controversy. Ever keen to talk about her breakdowns, her highs and lows, her fantasies and her boyfriend John Abraham, many would say she's built a career on titillating public confession. But she's also an increasingly fine and award-winning performer. It's another story that she hasn't won many awards but she definitely has won rewards even for her special appearances for lighting a 'beedi' or being a part of 'phoonk de'. It all goes to show that when Bips is on screen, she is on fire. No wonder she's hot! Bollywood Hungama's Devansh Patel gets ready for some fiery Q & A with Bipasha Basu. Statutory Warning: The contents are too hot to handle. Hi Bipasha, long time no see. Where are you now a days? Yeah that's what! I go in hibernation when I am filming and when my film is about to release I pop out of my igloo. You are no more an Ajnabee in Bollywood... I better not be Devansh (ha ha ha) ...and you've made a mark for yourself which your filmography proves. But is it time to tell all the leading ladies, Bachna Ae Haseeno? (Laughs) No yaar. I am too lost in my own space to say that. My survival technique is that the audience loves me and I have a direct interaction with them. I guess, I'm liked and that's why I'm here. My survival technique is that the audience loves me and I have a direct interaction with themd And the other interesting aspect of Bachna Ae Haseeno is also the fact that you are the senior most and highly experienced from the lot. As a teacher, what did you learn from the new bunch of students? They are hardly students. You know what happens. When I started off acting I had come with no experience in the films, but all these new comers are actually not new comers because they come with so much of preparation for being in films that they end up knowing more than what I've learnt in the last seven years. So they are as experienced as me and a person like Ranbir, he knows way too much for sure. Your last film with Yash Raj productions was two years ago, Dhoom 2. So how did two years after Yash Raj manage to rope you in for this particular role? Why not any other new comer? Well, I guess the right casting is very important in any film and when I heard the narration of this film, I just knew that Radhika is the part that I want to do and that is what they called me for. So it was like bang on! I couldn't argue much over it because I fitted the casting and at the same time it was a challenge to play the role. When you see the film, you'll come to know that there is something endearing about Radhika. I've loved my character. I have to say this. But it's quite unlucky for John that he is not the lucky boy in this film, it's Ranbir Kapoor. Did it make the 25-year-old Ranbir uncomfortable while filming romantic and intimate scenes with a 29-year-old Bipasha in the film? No, not really because we are similar minded people and at the end of the day you're an actor. You've come to do your job and you do it. It really helps on the contrary because when you have some kind of an equation with your co-star and you're on great talking terms and a friend, then the chemistry is better as it shows on screen, rather than working with a person you don't get along with. Age has nothing to do with it. You've already won the hearts of thousands by winning the Race in the U.K. Will Bachna Ae Haseeno win the race in similar fashion too? I do wish that Bachna Ae Haseeno is widely watched because it is actually a very nice and an easy film to watch. It's a kind of film where we talk about and celebrate love, which is an emotion that everyone can easily identify with, and especially today's youth will be easily able to identify with because it could be their story too. There are other USP's to the film too. The music is great; there are good looking people, great styling, excellent locations, and above all a fantastic story, which I think is a winner at the end of the day. It's a story that you follow. Ranbir and I are similar minded people and at the end of the day you're an actor. You've come to do your job and you do it. You've been a part of films which can't be tagged as commercial such as Corporate. Any plans of switching to your corporate days. I have Pankh coming up which is considered to be a little off the commercial track and I have another Bengali film that I've done which is definitely considered to be parallel cinema. So I have a mixed bag. I keep on doing things that I like and it doesn't specifically have to be in one direction. I like to keep a balance between commercial and realistic films and that's the way I like it. I don't want to be a crusader of realistic films neither do I want to be this doll in commercial films. I'd like a mix of both. I don't want to be a crusader of realistic films neither do I want to be this doll in commercial films. I'd like a mix of both. After Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal and No Smoking in which you did a special appearance, any plans of working with John Abraham again. We will see if something interests us. We working together is never a plan you know. We really don't plan it. Our way of thinking is very different and our choice of cinema is different. So if we really agree on one thing we will do it but I think the best thing to do is to work less together (laughs). I believe in that. I don't know whether you know this or not but August 2 will now be officially celebrated as a Bollywood Day in the U.S. after the mega success of the Unforgettable Tour. Are you shocked? For a change, I am. But I don't know. It's quite a strange thing. I don't even understand friendship day, mothers day, fathers day, etc. For me, friends and parents are forever. You cannot deny a relationship and definitely when you talk of Bollywood, it is my ambition, my work and my work place. I cannot deny it on every other day, so I don't know what to do on one particular day like a Bollywood Day. If there is a festival organized around Bollywood worldwide, it's an interesting concept. I don't even understand friendship day, mothers day, fathers day, etc. For me, friends and parents are forever Are you particular as far as screen space is concerned when you are a part of a big film like Dhoom 2 with big actors and a film like Bachna Ae Haseeno where the only big actor is 'you'? No. Sometimes people do crap when you are three hours in the film and some person comes in for twenty minutes and steals the thunder. So screen space has definitely never been my outlook. If you see my work profile, when you do multistarrer, the fun is that they are such a number of good exciting talents all put together in one film. It's just that how you leave your mark behind which matters. There is no competition. It's what you do is important even for a few minutes. Length is not an issue. Who is Radhika? Radhika is a girl who is a dancer by profession. She is a dancer in Shiamak Davar's troupe. She aspires to be an actress. So she is today's modern and an independent girl, has a clean heart and believes in romance and being in love. She falls in love with Raj. The film is actually a journey of all these four characters how they grow to be what because of love. Any other song, which you have on your caller tune besides 'Lucky Boy'? (Laughs) Right now 'Lucky Boy' is the favourite song of lot of boys. I like the title track of 'Bachna Ae Haseeno'. I do like 'Ahista Ahista' a lot because it's got a new flavor of romance. 'Khuda Jaane' is a typical romantic ballet. I like all the songs. Even 'Small Town Girl' is different as it has bhangra beats and a situational song and Jogi Mahi, which is very traditional. So it's a mix bag. Look, I covered the entire album! Radhika aspires to be an actress. So she is today's modern and an independent girl, has a clean heart and believes in romance and being in love. We are nearing our Independence Day in ten days. Any message for all the Indians across the globe? Independence Day is highly significant for all Indians, whether they are in India or living abroad because it is for this day that our country was free and we could take up what we wanted to. Today, we are who we are because of August 15. I just fell that we should be patriotic towards our country and contribute in the progress of our country in which ever possible way. This year I am going to spread a little bit of happiness by releasing our film Bachna Ae Haseeno on the Independence Day. Why should one go and watch Bachna Ae Haseeno on August 15? I think Bachna Ae Haseeno should be seen by any person who celebrates love, who thinks that love is important, who wants to fall in love and who is in love. Being a non smoker, you've somehow got attracted to beedi's and cigarettes. When are we going to see you next jalaile a beedi or phoonk de? (laughs) Nicely worded. As far as the song is concerned, I am right now pretty happy with my 'Lucky Boy' yaar. I'm done with the smoke for the time being.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 8 Aug 2008 | 1:08 pm Walt Disney picks up 15 percent in UTV's broadcast armWalt Disney Co has picked up 15 percent stake in UTV Global Broadcasting Ltd (UGBL) for Rs.1.18 billion, UTV announced in a statement Friday.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 8 Aug 2008 | 12:31 pm BLOG - Leave your brains behind for “Singh is Kinng”REUTERS - I don’t think “Singh is Kinng” will fail at the box-office. Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 8 Aug 2008 | 11:06 am Anees Bazmee heads for Ajmer Sharif on the release day of Singh Is KinngA very nervous and anxious Anees Bazmee headed for Ajmer Sharif with his wife on Thursday. "I go before the release of all my films and spend 4-5 days in Ajmer Sharif. I'm able to overcome my nervousness there. This time there was no time to go days in advance. But on Friday when I'll be in Ajmer Sharif it will be the time for a very big festival called Chatti Sharif. I didn't plan it this way. But now that I've the opportunity I'll be in Ajmer Sharif throughout Chatti Sharif. On Saturday, I'll be in Jaipur to watch my film." "Yes, I'm nervous," admits Anees. "I don't make four films a year. I make one film every two years. So I've no immediate project to fall back on. I've put my entire life in Singh Is Kinng. Some years ago, when Ashutosh Gowariker was directing a film called Lagaan, he was constantly asked whether his producer Aamir Khan was ghost-directing the film. Anees Bazmee faces a worse predicament. His Singh Is Kinng producer happens to be a reputed director himself. Protests Anees, "But Vipul never interfered. He's a smart producer. He knows I've 32 years of experience behind me in the industry. Vipul has only directed three films. People are aware of my experience, and my last two films were massive hits. So when a producer invites me to make a film why would he interfere? I hate producers who intrude in my work. And anyone who signs me knows it. Vipul loves and respects me. That's why he approached me. I'd love to do another film with him. If Vipul didn't have confidence in me why would he let me direct? He'd have done it himself." At an event in Delhi on Wednesday Anees Bazmee told the cast of his new release Singh Is Kinng, "What I've made is nothing when compared with Mughal-e-Azam. Whenever I watch that film I feel I should be doing something else. How did K. Asif do it?" Since the film boasts of a number of hit combos-Akshay-Katrina, Akshay-Vipul, Akshay-Anees Bazmee-does Anees feel the film could be a victim of over-expectation? Says Anees, "I'll say only one thing. I've made a very good film. It's a much bigger film than my No Entry and Welcome. But I wasn't thinking of those films while making Singh Is Kinng. I didn't want to repeat the earlier formula. For the first time, I've incorporated action scenes in my cinema. I don't like action. But because of Akshay we had to include it." Regarding the hero being Sikh, Anees says he was sure he'd do justice the community. "A lot of my friends are Sardarjis. I'm very fond of them for their lifestyle and daring. I've never done a film that would hurt any community's feelings. Quite frequently I get rid of potentially funny scenes when I feel they're offensive. I want to distribute love not hatred through my cinema. I personally approached major Sikh communities to watch Singh Is Kinng. They pointed out scenes that were not quite right. We recalled Akshay Kumar from South Africa and re-shot those scenes. Then the Sikhs were quite happy. Our intentions cannot be doubted. People who saw the film on Wednesday say Singh Is Kinng is better than my No Entry and Welcome. We're all excited. My wife thinks this is my best work to date. My children love it. That's a relief. If people in my home don't like a film how can I expect people outside to like it?" Anees has shot It's My Life with Harman Baweja and Genelia D'Souza for 20 days. "I normally shoot one film at a time. It's because of my producer Vipul's planning that I could complete and release Singh Is Kinng eight months after my last release Welcome."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 Aug 2008 | 10:52 am Morgan Freeman doing well after discharge - Oneindia

After the super success of Jab We Met and her super-glam look in Tashan, Kareena has become hot property for both Bollywood and Hollywood. There was a buzz couple of days back about Kareena signing a Hollywood project but Kareenaâs spokesperson denied stories about her doing a Hollywood film. Apparently, during the shoot of Kambakht Ishq, Kareena was in talks with Hollywood production houses. âIt is true that Kareena was offered a role in Chamera which is to be directed by Daniel Silverman but she has not signed on the dotted lines,â said her spokesperson. So is Kareena doing any Hollywood film at all? âKareena is busy for the next one and a half year with her commitments in Bollywood. Until then she isnât doing any international film. Besides Chamera, Kareena was also offered two other Hollywood films which I cannot divulge much into.â Kareena is definitely the most wanted actress currently. Surely, her lucky streak is on. While the ones on Shammi Kapoor and Mehboob did make an interesting read, the ones on PC Barua and Sivaji Ganesan were just OK. As for the book written on Guru Dutt (from which one had most expectations to begin with), the less said about it better. Hence, one looks forward to how interesting does the author Amrit Gangar make the sixth in the series which is done on Sohrab Modi. Though the cinema followers of the current generation have definitely heard the name Sohrab Modi, more or less they aren't too clued into his work during a cinematic journey which lasted close to 50 years (1934 - 1983). Yes, the word 'historical' comes to the mind immediately since Modi has always been known as a man who made Jhansi Ki Rani. However, what is really ironic is that though Jhansi Ki Rani has made him a known name today, the film by itself was a box office failure while there were countless other social films which he made decades back. What really surprises is to know that Modi, who made quite a few historical movies in his time, actually hated history classes in his childhood. However, it was only later when he started making movies and on exploring history further did he realize the immense importance of history in making one's future. In addition, he may well have been a politician if he hadn't entered into the world of movies. That's because after his matriculation, when he was contemplating a career path to choose, his school principal had commented - "Sohrab, looking at the quality of your voice, I think you should either be a politician or an actor." As is pretty obvious, Modi choose the later and the rest, as they say, is history! Talking about his voice, any student of cinema would vouch for the fact that Modi's USP was his voice. Whether it is his debut film Khoon Ka Khoon (which was based on 'Hamlet') or Pukar or Sikandar or Prithvi Vallabh, his voice always loomed large. In his younger days, Modi had earned quite some reputation of being a Shakespearean actor and along with his brother's theatrical company; he used to travel throughout India while enthralling audience all over due to his towering presence and depth in voice. Another great facet of Modi was his relentless approach when it came to sheer grandeur in his films. Amrit Gangar takes a reader through number of Modi's films which boasted of great sets, huge canvas and sheer lavish approach when it came to providing big screen entertainment. Films like Pukar, Sikandar (starring none other than Prithviraj Kapoor in the lead role), Jhansi Ki Rani and Mirza Ghalib amongst others were huge in canvas and can easily be counted amongst the best in Indian cinema. In fact, for Jhansi Ki Rani, the technicians roped in were the same who had worked on Gone With The Wind! Talking about historical films, not many are aware that Sohrab Modi was one of the first filmmakers to have actually embarked on a journey to make a film on Ashoka! Decades back Modi had all but begun shooting for Ashoka. In fact, he also had the publicity material for the film published and circulated with an amazing caption accompanying the film's poster that read - "Wielding of the sword made Ashoka the conqueror but breaking of the sword made Ashoka the great." However, the film never went beyond that stage. Reason? During his meeting with the distributors, one of them asked him about the hero who would be playing the title role of Ashoka. Hurt by the question since it indicated that distributors were seemingly loosing faith in him as a producer/director and instead concerned about the actor in the film, he shelved the project pronto. Sad, since the dream of making a film on Ashoka went away with his death! This was one of the stray instances when Sohrab Modi took anything personal because as narrated by Gangar, Modi was a peace loving person who never had any enemies. Content with his world of cinema, he lived his passion every day and night while working on films. Known for seldom getting angry, there were only a few instances of him loosing temper. One such instance was in a film called Bharosa. One of the critical scenes in the film required the lead actor Mazhar Khan to execute a six minute long scene. Since he couldn't get the scene right even after 22 takes, Khan removed his make-up and thought of seeking permission from Modi to resume shooting after a month. This was when Modi didn't mince any word and ultimately ensured that Khan got the scene right on the very same day! A perfectionist on all counts, Modi ensured that each and every area was well researched when it came to films made by him, This is why for Sikandar, he went to the extent of discovering the actual weight of the historical figure of Sikandar. For this, he even made his actors strip down to their undergarments and stand on the weighing scale to ensure that the consistent weight was maintained! Author Amrit Gangar does well in doing a painstaking research on Sohrab Modi and comes up with a good account of the journey of the producer/director/actor. Though there isn't much touched upon the personal life of Modi (wish there was a little more detail on this count), it is compensated by innumerous anecdotes which make their presence felt from the beginning till the end of the book. And he has every reason to be called so. Whatever the world may know him as, but we would like to call him by his name 'Anees Bazmee', a name that's synonymous with a clear mind, no attitude, no starry airs and above all, a thorough gentleman! He is back with Singh Is Kinng, a magnanimous film that stars the Box-Office 'Khiladi' Akshay Kumar. If the fate of Anees' films like, Welcome, No Entry is anything to go by, then, we are sure that he is undoubtedly sitting on a gold mine with Singh Is Kinng. Bollywood Hungama caught up with this man for a free wheeling interview. Aneesji, to start with, after all the hype and publicity blitzkrieg, your most heartfelt film Singh is Kinng is releasing this Friday. Are you nervous or excited? Frankly speaking, I am totally at a loss of words to answer this question. In my career of 33 years in Bollywood, the excitement factor simply refuses to leave me. The level of excitement, instead of decreasing, keeps on increasing with every film of mine. With my film releasing this Friday, my mind is now passing through mixed emotions of excitement, fear, anxiety et al. I have never ever seen a positive reaction to any film as much as I have got to this film. I feel all the positive reactions are just God's way of conveying his feelings through someone else's voice. With the amount of expectations that this film has built, I just hope that the film is able to live upto it. The irony of the situation is that even though everyone is talking high of this film, I feel that that no one can predict the outcome of any film before Friday. I feel that that no one can predict the outcome of any film before Friday. Was the number '08-08-08' the reason of to release the film on 8 August 2008? No sooner that we finished the shooting of Singh Is Kinng, we felt that this day was just right to release the film. The date '08-08-08' was fixed by the film's producer, who I feel, believes in numerology. He feels that this date is not just auspicious but also immensely lucky. Hence the date '08-08-08'. On a personal front, even though I refuse to believe in such stuff, I am not at all against those who believe in it. On a personal front, even though I refuse to believe in numerology, I am not at all against those who believe in it. With the kind of pre-release hysteria that Singh is Kinng has created all over, do you feel that it will be a bigger hit than Welcome and No Entry? It's a universal fact that No Entry was the biggest hit of 2005 and Welcome of 2007. But trust me; the kind of pre-release hysteria that Singh Is Kinng has created, is way beyond my previous two films. I never depend upon anybody's predictions; neither do I anticipate any film's outcome at the Box-Office. The only thing that I firmly believe is the audiences' reaction, because I feel that it is ultimately their opinion, which can simply make or break any film. I would also like to add that it's not necessary that the film that's closer to your heart will emerge as a smash hit at the Box-Office and vice versa. In my case, I cannot tell (read 'predict') that Singh Is Kinng will be a superhit only because it's very close to every member associated with it. No one, except the audience can answer your question. In other words, my audience is the 'King' for Singh Is Kinng! In other words, my audience is the 'King' for Singh Is Kinng! You have repeated Akshay Kumar yet again in Singh Is Kinng. How was your experience working with him this time? I know Akshay as someone who is an extremely simple person. Even though he is such a big star today, he is totally dissociated with any sort of starry air and attitude and he is immensely punctual on the sets. He is an extremely committed guy who is totally dedicated to his work. Unlike what the reports say, Akshay is totally a non-interfering actor. He treats every director of his as the captain of the ship. In other words, he simply submits himself to his director, as he feels that the director knows the film better. He does give his suggestions at times. But if the opposite person does not incorporate that suggestion/s, Akshay will never grudge about it. That's the beauty of this man, who, I would like to call as a thorough and a well-read gentleman. In short, he is what I would term as a Director's Actor to the core! I do know of certain actors who, at the behest of giving 'suggestions' start interfering in the film's affairs. Akshay is a far cry from such people! Akshay keeps the atmosphere filled with huge positive vibrations. Hence, it becomes fun to work at any time of the day or night. Akshay is truly a Rock star! In a nutshell, can you please tell us as to what Singh Is Kinng is all about? The film starts in a village where the main protagonist Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar) lives. Happy, like his name, wants to spread happiness everywhere he goes. He sincerely wishes to help everyone in his village, but the fact remains that nobody wants to seek his help because of their past 'experiences' with him. That's the reason they plan and send him on an 'expedition' to Australia, hoping that he will never return. But situations in Australia become such that Akshay lands up becoming a 'King' there. In a nutshell, the film is all about what happens when a Mr. 'Do-Gooder' becomes a criminal and how it affects the people around him. Trade is abuzz with the news that Akshay has overtaken SRK to become the new No. 1 in Bollywood. What's your take on that? Let me tell you, in my Bollywood tryst till date, I have never believed in the number game as I feel that the 'winner' of the game keep changing every Friday. If a certain film is a superhit, then, that person (irrespective of him being a hero/director) immediately gets heralded as 'No. 1'. Likewise, if the same person's film flops, he very quietly gets pushed to No. 4 or maybe lower than that! But as far as Akshay is concerned, I can vouch for his immense fan-following, not just in India, but globally because I have seen people literally screaming and shouting his name everywhere he went! The crowds simply used to go berserk at his mere sight. Leaving apart the No. 1 tag, I can surely tell you that Akshay Kumar has definitely become a major Superstar! I can surely tell you that Akshay Kumar has definitely become a major Superstar! What are the locations where Singh Is Kinng has been shot? And what is it that makes it the most expensive film of 2008? One has to see the film to experience the locations as they come alive on the silver screen. We have shot this film on a grand scale in exotic locations like Egypt, Gold Coast (Australia) and even Chandigarh. And as far as it being the 'most expensive film' is concerned, we have really spent a lot majorly on the 'look' of the film, something that shows in the film. I do agree that shooting in Australia was an expensive affair, but the film had certain scenes that simply had to be shot there. Pritam's lilting music serves as one of the major highlights of the film. What's your take on the same and what's your favourite song from the album? Working with Pritam was really a good experience. He is one of the most sincere and dedicated music composers that we have today. He has a bright future ahead. And as far as my favourite song from the film is concerned, I like all the songs so much that my favourite track keeps changing everyday, depending upon my mood! I like all the songs so much that my favourite track keeps changing everyday Is Singh Is Kinng a comedy film or an action-comedy? With the presence of the daredevil Akshay Kumar, can the audience look forward to see some breathtaking stunts? Besides comedy, the film has its share of action moments too. But since I do not like making action films, there's a tint of humor even in those action scenes! The fact is that I hate to show blood in my films. But with Akshay at the helm of things, it becomes needless to say that he has done a marvelously splendid job! The scene in which he jumps from one moving lift to another is sure to make the audiences' heart skip a beat! Besides that, there is one action scene in Gold Coast, which required Akshay to be riding a jet-ski and follow a helicopter. The Australian authorities do not allow anyone to do such stunts without a license, for which one has to pass a formal exam. Even though Akshay knew how to ride, he took the trouble of waiting patiently for 12 hours for the exam! At the end of the day, when all of us would sleep after a dead tired day, Akshay would still sit with his book and read for the exams. It's really amazing to see a person of Akshay's stature to do all this, only for obtaining permission. At the end of the day, when all of us would sleep after a dead tired day, Akshay would still sit with his book and read for the exams. Singh Is Kinng has been in the news for many reasons (mostly positive). Akshay's video with Snoop Dogg was one of them. How was the experience? When I had made Welcome, I had shot the title song with the entire cast of the film. We wanted something of this sort for Singh Is Kinng too. That's when everyone suggested of roping an international artist. This suggestion was made keeping in mind the current generation's craziness about foreign artistes. After having made umpteen researches about the artistes, we finally zeroed down on Snoop Dogg. It was only for the glamour aspect that we roped him in. Initially, I thought it would be a difficult task shooting with him, but he turned out to be an extremely professional guy, not just about his commitment towards the time but also to the overall song itself! Akshay is known to be the notorious 'Editing Master'. What was your experience with him on that front? I too have heard about the same. But I don't think that there's even 1% of truth in it. The reason being if you watch Welcome, and if Akshay Kumar was the 'Editor Master', then, there wouldn't have been such lengthy roles of Nana, Anil Kapoor, Katrina and Paresh Rawal. Instead, the entire focus would have solely been on Akshay himself! I feel that the rumors about Akshay have been planted by some vested interests only because Akshay today is a very successful man. I am very sure that those who know Akshay well will never buy such statements about him. Let me ask this question commonly to everyone that, 'If the actors are at the liberty of calling the shots, then, what's the point of having a full-time director and an editor?' If the actors are at the liberty of calling the shots, then, what is the point of having a full-time director and an editor? Is it true that Salman wants the sequel to No Entry to start as soon as possible? Many people want the sequel of No Entry to be made. As far as Salman is concerned, whatever he tells once is equivalent to others telling it 20 times. Salman did tell me to make a sequel of No Entry, which itself is a signal that he is keen on doing the film. And since he is a very close friend of mine, he has got all the right to ask whatever he wants of me. There are rumors that you have started charging Rs 7 crores for your films. Comment. I do not confirm neither deny the figures. All that I can say is that I am getting what I rightly deserve. You are making a galore of sequels. What's your take on sequels? I feel that making a sequel is a good thing. The reason being that since the first film (original) is already a hit; a positive image will prevail in the audiences' mind about the film. Also one need not waste time (unlike the original) in establishing the film's characters. Making sequels, I feel, is a very responsible job that needs to be handled very carefully. As far as Salman is concerned, whatever he tells once is equivalent to others telling it 20 times Where do you see yourself 10 years down the line? Frankly speaking, I don't plan things because I'm a very staunch believer in God. I just take one day at a time and leave the rest to Him. Will you ever turn to producing films, as is the trend these days? Firstly, I do not follow trends just for the sake of following it. And secondly, as far as me producing films is concerned, I doubt if I will ever go in that direction, as my mathematics has been pathetically weak since my school days and it continues to be so till date (laughs). Making sequels, I feel, is a very responsible job that needs to be handled very carefully. Any regrets so far in life? As such, there is no regret. But, I do feel sometimes, that the way all my directors had got an Anees Bazmee in their lives, I just hope that I too get the 'Anees Bazmee' of my life! Can you shed a sneak-peak on your next film Its My Life? It's My Life is loosely based on the Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha genre of filmmaking. It's a very lighthearted romantic film based on college youth. While Genelia plays a student, Harman is an ex-student. And like every ex-student, Harman, too finds it difficult to dissociate from the college memories even after a couple of years after he passes out. Then, there's Harman's father (played by Nana Patekar) who acts as the main obstacle between the two lovers. The story proceeds from there. Lastly, cite just one reason as to why should a person watch Singh is Kinng? There are millions of reasons to watch the film. But, I don't want to brag about the film just because it's my film. But if I had to cite one reason to watch the film, then, all that I would say is that Singh Is Kinng is a total 'paisa-vasool' film! Need I say more!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 7 Aug 2008 | 12:06 pm
