Now he is about to release his film on August 22 in the U.K which revolves around the mother of all controversies - the shoot out of Jean Charles De Menezes, an innocent Brazilian national who was shot more than ten times at point blank range inside the Stockwell Tube Station in London by the Metropolitan Police officers who thought of him as a suicide bomber. But the truth was that he wasn't a suicide bomber. Jagmohan Mundhra also known as Jag Mundhra took this bold and a brave decision of making Shoot On Sight on a subject which has many questions unanswered. For a change, Mundhra answered all my questions and came out with shocking quotes, comments, and answers. Over to Jag. It seems like you are too fond of making controversial films on controversial subjects. How do your films see the light of the day? But they do, don't they? (Laughs) When I make a film, I don't think before hand as to how controversial it'll be. That is not the thought process. First and foremost, I look at it as what will make a good dramatic story and to make a good drama you need to have a conflict. The external conflict drives the plot between the good and the bad guy and then there is an internal conflict which goes in the minds of these characters and that's what gives you a compelling story. Many times in real life, what people go through is so much more powerful and dramatic than something, which will fictionally come with a figment of your imagination. So, I pick subjects because they are compelling dramas of life. As a filmmaker, it's my responsibility to not run away from controversies. I look at it as what will make a good dramatic story and to make a good drama you need to have a conflict. When I make a film, I don't think before hand as to how controversial it'll be. Out of all the talent in the world, why only Jag Mundhra thought of making Shoot On Sight? I am surprised to know that this was such a powerful story and a situation, which was so dramatic that an innocent man was shot dead on the tube station in London by virtue of mistaken identity from the Metropolitan Police department. The time period when there was so much panic, one of the most well known and respected police force of the world did such a bungling act and nobody even thought of making a film on it. Some British filmmakers still believe that the subject is too raw and sensitive and therefore they are shying away. How long do you think one should wait to address such a situation? What about those who suffered the Nazi suffering and still are, they don't get over it through their entire life. Does that mean one shouldn't make a film about them. I feel one should confront an issue and open it up for a debate. Even if you are not politically correct and feel strongly about such issues, go ahead and put it on screen. By avoiding such issues, harmony cannot be created. I am still surprised to know why no filmmaker from UK or US has tapped into this topic. So what kind of research went into making Shoot On Sight? Quite a bit, I don't take my job lightly. When I make realistic films, I want to make sure that at least they are authentic. Everybody knows that the cinema is a suspension of disbelief and everything they are going to see is fake but the only way you can create a suspension of disbelief is that if your attention to detail is good especially when situations are realistic even though the characters may be fictional. I cannot take liberties like a science fiction film or a fantasy film, can I? I went through seven or eight hours of tape of the speeches of Abu Hamza, the radical Muslim cleric, to be able to sort of distill and condense the points into the speeches of Om Puri in the film. It had to look convincing and real. So many people are misguided and influenced by the speeches of such clerics to such an extent that they are willing to give up their lives for it. So these arguments have to be really strong. I am a non-Muslim making a film on a Muslim protagonist. I had to film in a mosque, film the Muslim prayers and I cannot do these things superficially and make sure that nobody is offended by it. I went to the mosque to find out how they pray, and to see the actual ritual of the namaz. I recorded the prayer, which was done by the imam, in the Regents Park Mosque and used it as a part of the backdrop for the film. I went through seven or eight hours of tape of the speeches of Abu Hamza, the radical Muslim cleric, I went to the mosque to find out how they pray, and to see the actual ritual of the namaz. I recorded the prayer, which was done by the imam, in the Regents Park Mosque Is that all the research you've done? I learnt that in any devout Muslim conversation you don't take Prophet Mohammed's name lightly. His name has to follow 'peace be upon him'. This is something I didn't know before. In addition, when I was doing police procedures, I didn't know much about the ranks of the Metropolitan police. I went through the entire organizational chart of the Scotland Yard. How did you manage that? I googled it on the internet. I also went and met Mr. Tarique Ghaffur, the assistant commissioner for central operations who gave me a few books to refer on. During the shoot, how the police officers operate, how they move was all researched by an ex-MI5 guy who is now a film consultant. We hired him for that. We also had a consultant for Islamic religious situations, Mr. Parvez. So in that case, I'm pretty thorough in what I've researched. Click above for more stills You must have got some kind of a negative advice of not to make Shoot On Sight? Of course, people always tell me not to make such a film and that it will not work commercially. They've also told me that people go to cinema not to think but to have a good time. But Shoot On Sight is a different kind of cinema. Cinema is such a powerful art form that it cannot be used for one type of cinema. Until the script was ready, I was not sure whether the dramatic art would be correct or it'll be good and I knew that since I'm making a feature film and not a documentary, it must work on the most basic fundamental level of being good entertainment, meaning a good engaging story. Then when you peel the layers out of it, you'll get more than just the good and bad guy image. People always tell me not to make such a film and that it will not work commercially. Terrorism is increasing day by day. Do you think your film Shoot On Sight will be like adding more fuel to the fire? I don't think that any one film can change the political, religious, cultural or social view points. What it can do is to make people aware of the issues. But it's a fact that there are lots of liberal Muslims who are not considered liberal anymore by virtue of the fact that their voice is not heard. The voices, which are heard, are the voices, which are making the most noise - the extremists, and because of them the 70% to 80% of Muslims who believe in their faith and are not fundamentalists, want to have peace and harmony with other communities. Now it's they who are being targeted as a suspected community. And not just them, that is true for all of us who know the distinction between a Hindu and a Muslim or India and Pakistan. But for the white guys, for the western majority of people who don't know the difference, for them, all of us are suspect community. All of us who belong to a brown race, whether its Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Hindu, Muslim, doesn't matter. I think Shoot On Sight will create that awareness in their mind that you cannot paint everybody with the same brush stroke. It also tells those of us who feel victimized that it is easy to point a finger at a white guy and say he is a racist. But do you also understand what they go through. When a person who is entrusted with making sure that another bomb blast doesn't happen and if he pulled the trigger, what was his fault. What if the guy truly turned out to be a bomber. The voices, which are heard, are the voices, which are making the most noise - the extremists, and because of them the 70% to 80% of Muslims who believe in their faith and are not fundamentalists, want to have peace and harmony with other communities. You've in fact managed to rope in a few big names from the West for your film namely Brian Cox and Greta Scacchi. How did you manage to convince them? I think the story attracts the actors. There are so many progressive people in the artistic community who feel strongly about issues but most films do not give them an opportunity to participate and show their point of view in an issue. Now a days majority of Hollywood films are made on super heroes like Batman, Spiderman, Superman, etc. Those films are driven by box office and not by the real life situations. So certain actors do such films for their big pay cheque and their lifestyles. But somewhere down the line, most actors, especially western actors have a political point of view and do not get a chance to express that in big Hollywood films. There was a time when bad guys used to be communists, then bad guys used to be the Nazi's and now the bad guys are Muslims. If you have a good relevant material, which has its politics right, you'll find lot of big actors interested in doing the role given to them. But they don't give you a lot of time to do it. I finished Brian Cox's shoot in one week. I have to be much more organized and efficient than the big studio films because they may do two shots in a day but I do thirty shots in a day so that I can finish the actors job as soon as they have other big films to go to. I still pay them the rate they want but because I only need them for a week or ten days. So when will you be working with Aishwarya Rai again after you worked with her in Provoked? Next year. Aishwarya Rai's own secretary, Mr. Hari Singh asked me to direct a film for his company called Band Width Productions. Aishwarya Rai has committed to do a three-week guest appearance in the film. The tentative title of the film is Faisla as of now. Aishwarya plays a strong village 'sarpanch' based in Punjab whose husband is in the armed forces. She is an activist and how she takes up a cause of a village girl, etc. How did you convince Naseeruddin Shah to play the role of Tarique Ghaffur? When I finished the script of Shoot On Sight, I had three names for the role of an assistant commissioner. One of them was Art Malik, a Pakistani British Actor who has been working in the UK for quite some time now. One of them was Naseer and the third was Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. Now you will ask me why Amitabh, to which I will say that a journalist based in India Mr. Subhash Jha who had seen my film Provoked, told me that I should rope in Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. This was suggested after he read the draft of my film. Subhash Jha himself sent the letter to Mr. Bachchan to have a look at the story because I could not have access to Mr. Bachchan. Three days later, he called me saying that Mr. Bachchan liked the script. I flew down to Mumbai and met with him. I met him on the sets of Cheeni Kum and he first asked me why I didn't rope in a Muslim actor for this role because the assistant commissioner was a Muslim. I told him that actors are not Hindu or Muslim. It's the characters who are Hindu or Muslim. Since the film addresses an important issue, Mr. Bachchan doing it would have a large audience seeing the film. He was also hesitant not to shave off his beard but then I told him that he need not worry, as he will have to grow a bit. A well-groomed Muslim beard is perfectly acceptable in Scotland Yard, as I had checked with them. We talked about other things as well. But all of a sudden the response from his side stopped coming. I have no issues over the matter. It can be that someone has advised Mr. Bachchan not to do the film because of it's controversial subject. But then Naseeruddin Shah came and accepted the offer by saying that if some actors are afraid of the Muslim community, I don't care. I will do the film because I liked it. Mr. Bachchan liked the script. Mr. Bachchan doing it would have a large audience seeing the film But all of a sudden the response from his side stopped coming. I have no issues over the matter Now that the film revolves around a controversy, let me ask you the most controversial question of all. In the films trailer, a police officer is seen asking Naseeruddin Shah, 'Are all terrorists Muslim or are all Muslims terrorists'. Do you have any answer to this question? There is no question that in today's time, except for groups like LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) commonly known as Tamil Tigers, all the terrorist events which happen around the globe whether it is the recent explosions in India's Ahmedabad and Bangalore states, Madrid blasts, etc. You come to know later on that there is a Muslim name behind it. So at this point of time I will agree with the above quote that all terrorists are Muslims. Can I quote what you've just said in the papers? Yes. I've used the line but you can't use it as a headline because it will create unnecessary controversy. Having said that, we do know that suicide bombings were not started by Muslim terrorists but by the Tamil terrorists of Sri Lanka who blew the then Prime Minister of India Mr. Rajiv Gandhi during his election campaign. I read one of the Palestinian suicide bombers statements, which shook me up. He said that the Americans have big tanks and sophisticated weaponry, which they can use against us anytime they want. All we have is our body. We can't fight with them on a conventional war because we can't even come close to what they have. But in an unconventional war where we give up our lives and which they cannot afford is the only power we have. I think it is true what he said. I read one of the Palestinian suicide bombers statements, Americans have big tanks and sophisticated weaponry, which they can use against us anytime they want. All we have is our body. We can't fight with them on a conventional war because we can't even come close to what they have. But in an unconventional war where we give up our lives and which they cannot afford is the only power we have. Where did you hear this from? There was a documentary film called 'Paradise Now' based on two Palestine guys. That's where I heard one of them say this. I don't agree with what America did to Iraq in the name of war against weapons of mass destruction which they never found. I don't agree with lot of things which are happening in Gaza too and how the Palestinians are treated but I'd say that all the sympathy for all these causes goes out of the window because they target innocent people. When innocent people get killed I don't care what cause it is. There is no justification for it. Suicide bombings are an exercise in hurting your own cause. Are you going to keep the films premiere in the U.K? We are planning to. The film is going to first open in the U.K on the August 22. It's not opening in the US, India or Pakistan on the same day because the setting of the story is post 7/7 London so obviously it makes sense to open the film first in the U.K. Any message you'd like to convey through this world exclusive interview? Shoot On Sight is not anti-Muslim at all. One of the best comments I've heard about this film is that Shoot On Sight was such a difficult and a thin line to walk but I walked carefully and perfectly. It's not a biased film and does not take anybody's side. It presents issues in a very positive manner. So hopefully, the people who are rational in thought and who are open minded and are willing to see another point of view will definitely come and watch this film.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 2 Aug 2008 | 1:10 pm Transformers 2 in the making

Madhuri Dixit returned to Denver, Abhishek and Aishwarya flew back to India for a short while, Big B decided to spend some time in New York, Preity Zinta stayed on in SF itself with her niece, Vishal Dadlani decided to make an early visit to Houston... - Meanwhile good reviews continue to keep the show's momentum on. Last, one heard that the show all the way in London is seeing great booking as well. However, the sad part is Vancouver trip being canceled. Apparently, the stars were more than willing to perform but the promoter made it impossible for everyone involved. General sentiment for the team was to go ahead with the show and make it happen for the fans. However, the promoter messed up on the arrangements and the team decided that rather than work with someone who didn't know his job, they rather make way out of it! - However, in spite of 'thoda gham' here, there is a lot of 'khushi' for the international recognition that the stars are getting. A few days back, each of the stars from the show was handed over a commendation from none other than the Attorney General of California for their contribution to culture togetherness. Quite a matter of pride for them since the recognition came from the member of a foreign government. - Being a small family that makes Bollywood, people continue to keep meeting at some juncture or another. Karan Johar was there in town for his work on his next directorial venture My Name Is Khan and happened to show the teasers of Dostana to the privileged lot. The vibes are great and it appears that Karan along with his writer Shibani Bathija (who was accompanying Karan and has earlier written his Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna as also Kunal Kohli's Fanaa) indeed have a rocking rom-com waiting to be grabbed! - While watching the promo of Dostana, came across as a pleasant surprise for Vishal, it was sad for him to have missed visiting a 'Jazz' event. Certain unforeseen circumstances required him to skip it though he is sure that in days to come, he would check out at least four different concerts once the Houston show is through! - Talking about Dostana, there was quite some 'dostana' demonstrated by an enthusiastic fan in the recent concert. Waving from the crowd, he seemed to be in love with stars. This is why when Abhishek hit the stage, he shouted at the top of his voice - 'I Love You Abhishek'. Respecting his loving gesture, Abhishek too shouted by - 'I Love you too'. This is when the fan screamed back, 'I Love your Dad as well' to which Abhishek replied, 'But I Love my Dad more than you love him.' Well, the story didn't end here. The moment Aishwarya came to perform, the same man made his presence felt, this time claiming to be in love with the entire Bachchan family including Ash! Ash did acknowledge him and thanked him for his love and affection! No wonder, it turned out to be some evening for the guy! - Members of 'Unforgettable' had a pleasant experience while on the sets of Kambakth Ishq a few days. In spite of the film boasting of primarily an international crew, the songs being played on location were those from Bachna Ae Haseeno. In fact, a crew member (named Willoughby) got so excited by hearing the film's title track that he decided to get a tattoo on him with plain and simple words 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' being pierced upon! Yes, he has been quite serious ever since he was informed that the words stood for 'Watch Out O Beautiful Ones'. - As the mini-vacation period comes to a close with the next concert being planned for the evening of Saturday, August 2, stars have started to gather once again. Abhishek and Aishwarya would be back in the evening, Amitabh Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit are back, Vishal is already in the town while others too are expected to be there before the day comes to a close. From here on, it would be time for some quick reconvening before the BIG night arrives! - To make this BIG night further more exciting than any of the four concerts held earlier, Vishal and Shekhar are planning to spice up the proceedings further. While all this while they have been enthralling the audiences with songs from Om Shanti Om, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Bluffmaster and Tashan, they may add or get some replacement running with tracks from Salaam Namastey, Jhankaar Beats and even Waise Bhi Hota Hai - Part II ('Allah Ke Bande'). Now it has to be seen how the magic of a Deewangee or a Dil Dance Maare is further enhanced in Houston!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 2 Aug 2008 | 10:29 am Katrina Kaif replaces Aishwarya Rai in NakshatraDownload image as wallpaper They say that the one thing constant in Bollywood is change. The wheels of fortune at the Box-Office changes every Friday depending upon the 'sale-brity' quotient of the celebrity. In other words, someone's loss is another's gain. This was exactly the case with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who was till late considered as the most saleable celebrity globally. But, little did anyone expect that she will be toppled by a relative newcomer like Katrina Kaif. The news that took recently the air out of Bollywood and the modeling world is that Aishwarya Rai has been replaced by Katrina Kaif, for a whopping amount, to be the Brand Ambassador of Nakshatra range of jewelry. But wait! The story does not end there. Bollywood Hungama has something new (read 'The Bare Fact') that nobody must have ever dreamt of! The news is that Katrina was apparently not the first choice for Nakshatra! According to the most reliable sources, the first choice of Nakshatra was Deepika Padukone, who had almost signed the dotted lines till she realized that the contract did not contain what she had asked for. To simplify it further, Deepika had agreed to endorse the said brand (only on a national level) for a certain amount. But the Nakshatra officials wanted her not just to endorse Nakshatra, but its sub-brands as well and that too on a global level, which Deepika refused for obvious reasons. And naturally, Deepika's loss turned out to be Katrina's gain. Such is the big, bad, and unpredictable world of glamour!Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 2 Aug 2008 | 9:40 am Ranvir and Mallika at their wackiest bestOff-late Ranvir Shorey and Mallika Sherawat are more popularly referred to as Ugly Aur Pagli. After all, they star in this quirky romantic comedy, which opened across cinema halls yesterday (Aug 1). If the promos of the film are anything to go by, it will be quite a sight to see Mallika get completely âTalliâ in the film. As for poor Ranvir, he will have to pass through 99 odd slaps to get that one kiss from Madame Sherawat. In keeping with the mood of the film, Bollywood Hungama caught Ugly Aur Pagli (meaning Ranvir and Mallika) having an interesting tête-à -tête and answering some really funny and outrageous questions in their own wacky way. Enjoy!!! So, who's Ugly and who's Pagli here? Ranvir: - Mallika is Ugly⦠Mallika: - Iâm Ugly & Ranvir is Pagli⦠(Laughs) Ranvir: -Yes, I am Pagli and she's Ugly⦠(Mallika slaps Ranvir) Was it done nicely? Ranvir: - Now this is exclusively for you guyâ¦A role reversal⦠(Ranvir slaps Mallika) I have had a lot working on this film. In the film, I am Ugly (obviously) & she is Pagli (not so obviously). Mallika: - What's not so obvious about it? Ranvir: - You are hardly insane⦠Mallika: - Please Ranvirâ¦.You are too old fashioned⦠Ranvir:- Are you insane???(Mallika confesses she is insane slaps Ranvir again) Ranvir: - Now this was the second slap Mallika: - In the film, I have slapped you 100 timesâ¦more than 100 times actually Ranvir: - No no, that's only the tag line for the film. Mallika: - How much ever clarification you give, but you have had some 100 odd slaps⦠Ranvir: - In the film? Which film are you talking about? Did we work together in the film? (Mallika makes him wear the devil band) Ranvir: - When in doubt do something stupid. Aah! So the beauty and the geek! Is that what are we're talking about here? Ranvir: - Thank youâ¦I mean that's so nice of you to call me a beauty. Mallika: - And that's so nice of you to call me a Geekâ¦Psycho Geek at that⦠But why all the romantic films are so mushy mushy and why cant there be some violence in it? In Ugly Aur Pagli, there's everything, slaps, slaps slaps so much violence you see. Ranvir: - Yes, Mallika likes itâ¦when she is whacked around a little bit in romance. So, we have taken the same idea to make this film. While making the film, our roles got reversed and I had to bear all the slaps. Mallika â I love violence Q3. Ugly aur Pagli is quite a name for a film! What's the film about? Ranvir:- Wacky titleâ¦Mallika will tell us about itâ¦But it is a wacky title. Mallika: - Ranvir you tell them. Ranvir: - Wacky Ugly Aur Pagliâ¦Ugly Aur Pagli Wacky⦠Ranvir: - I am sure Mallika would differ on this. She often makes a film in her mind. Ugly Aur Pagli is a story of two brats actually. Kabir, the character I am playing is the only child of his middle class Maharashtrian parents. Mallika: - Hahahahahaâ¦who has failed 4 times in engineering and who never had a girlfriend and suddenly he gets Pagli who is a Psycho kind of a character, who looks quite hot and attractive but Kabir realizes that he canât stay with this girl and wants to get rid of her but he cannot. Ranvir: -Yeah, here I am the troubled one. Main phasa hua hoon. Mallika â This is a girl who wants to slap her boyfriend at least once in her lifeâ¦that happens with every woman in the universe, I guess Ranvir: - And most of them do it. This girl called Kuhu in the film canât talk without slapping her boyfriend. Right? Mallika â Right. Ranvir: - Kuhu is also a brat much like Kabir. She's also the only child of her Bong parents. Hmmmâ¦so I think basically they have something in common but at the same time are very different from each other Mallika: - Right Ranvir: - How much do you identify with the role of Kuhu? Mallika: - Totally. I identify 100% with the role and to prepare for this role I got in touch with the devilish & the mean side of me. Ranvir: - That would have been easy. Mallika: - Very easy and great fun as well. I donât understand, in every romantic film, why does the guy have to be this tall dark and handsome, stud type? Why canât they just be normal? Ranvir: - I don't know why I was cast for this character if someone normal was needed Mallika: - Good question⦠Ranvir: - Tall, dark, stunning, I mean⦠(Wears sunglassesâ¦Mallika starts laughing) Ranvir: - As far as the title is concerned don't you think this title has a historyâ¦.like Heer Ranjha, Laila Majnu, Neal & Nikki, Hahahahhaâ¦Ugly Aur Pagli⦠Mallika: - Romeo Julietâ¦Don't give publicity to other films in this interview. Ranvir :- Arreeâ¦those films are already released we don't have any danger with it. Seriously, don't you think we are taking this lineage forward of such names? Mallika: - With so many slaps? (Slaps Ranvir again) Ranvir: - This is the sixth time you are hitting meâ¦3 more are leftâ¦the 10th one would be from me and that one would be enough. Mallika: - Don't threaten meâ¦I am not scared. Ranvir: - Heyâ¦stop slapping me now, the shooting for the film is over. This is real life now. Mallika: - You keep quietâ¦Who do you think you are? I will take off your glasses. Ranvir: - Clothes, clothesâ¦please remove my clothes also. Mallika: - Koi Tuwang idea dimaag mein aaya naâ¦toh bharta bana dungi⦠You spoiled my hairstyle Ranvir: - Don't touch my horns ok. Mallika: - Just see if my hairstyle is okay? Ranvir: - Ya ya its nice. Mallika: - And my horns? Ranvir: - Those are permanent. Q4. So is this just another love story or a chick-flick? What's Ranvir doing in a chick-flick? Ranvir: - Is it a chick flick? No, itâs not a chick-flickâ¦itâs a love storyâ¦its a love storyâ¦it's a love story. Mallika: -Okâ¦ok...understoodâ¦How many times will you sayâ¦it's a love storyâ¦.it's a love story? Ranvir has done lots of crazy things for me in the filmâ¦like he's worn my heelsâ¦my six inches heels and roamed around with them. Ranvir: - How do you walk in those heels? Mallika: - All the girls wear heels n walk like that only. Ranvir: - I think you girls just constantly balance yourselfâ¦No wonder you girls get annoyed with people so easilyâ¦someone calls from behind and you trip. Mallika: - we have to take care of our figure⦠we need to be in fashion. Ranvir: - Figure will be maintained on its ownâ¦constantly you people are exercising by balancingâ¦the heels. Mallika â Exactly! Half the time you had to carry me, what a heavy load you had to carry on your back. Ranvir â Yes. That's true⦠Mallika is very heavyâ¦and I don't mean jus mentally⦠(Mallika slaps Ranvir) So where was I? A love storyâ¦yes it is a love storyâ¦.it's not a chick flickâ¦there is no âchick flickishâ thing about it. Mallika â Kuhu is a little psycho thatâs all Ranvir - Its like the way Kabir is complacent and brattish because of his dotting parentsâ¦Kuhu's situation is also the sameâ¦Kuhu is one of those girls who tend to get spoilt in a more controlled wayâ¦and guys are like more in a "you do it way" Q5. Do you like quirky woman in real life? Ranvir - Personally, I like quirky women but I am not too sure if I like aggressive womenâ¦I like women who have a combination of being independent and being vulnerable. Too independent makes you feel why am I here and too vulnerable makes you feel why is she here? Mallika - But Kabir is also sadisticâ¦like when he challenges Kuhu in the film that if you canât do this, you have to be my slave all your life. If anyone hears that challenge, they will be shockedâ¦now please tell people what the challenge was... Ranvir â The challenge is to come to college without clothes. Mallika â Don't lieâ¦that's not the challenge. (Slaps him again) Ranvir â Now this is the last slap Ok. In the film, Kabir challenges Kuhu to go to college in undergarments. Mallika â Don't use some words please, kids would be reading this⦠By the way tell me, which decent guy would challenge his girlfriend like this? Q6. How's Ranvir in real life? Mallika - Oh he is very attractive Ranvir â So attractive that she often used to get distracted by my attractiveness⦠Mallika â I loved slapping and bullying him in the film. Everyone knows I am single and no one will even think of me after watching me in the film. Ranvir â Unless or until some one is really gutsy. Ranvir â My character is very lazy. He is studying from the last four year in the same class but is happy because he gets pocket money from his parents and doesn't have to do anything in life. This girl Kuhu makes him realize a lot of things. Mallika â Now don't tell the whole story. Basically the film is very different. Something very new. You must have never seen such characters in any film till now. The essence of the film is very different. Q7. What would you choose between love and lust? Ranvir â Love definitely. Mallika â I would choose lust. Q8. Any funny incidents on the sets while shooting? Ranvir â Oh Yes, I would want to tell you about one. There is a scene in which I had to ride a scooty and Mallika is sitting behind. She suddenly tells me to stop the scooty because I am riding it slow and tells me to sit behind while she is riding the bike. I asked her if she can ride the scooty well. She said, yeah yeah I can, don't worry. We do this scene. The director calls cut but Madam doesn't stop because there is a bull chasing the red scooty and Mallika starts screaming, I don't know how to stop. We all couldn't stop laughing. Q9. Is Kuhu special? Ranvir âVery special. She is very spiritual Mallika â Oh shut up Ranvir â Let me complete. Kuhu shows Kabir the outrageous fun that he wants to have. Q10. Is Kabir special? Mallika - Yes. Very special. I hope I find a guy like Kabir. Ranvir â No one will bear so many slaps. Mallika â Why not? Every couple fight. Ranvir â But here its not fighting, literally slapping. Mallika â So what? A girl can always slap a guy. Ranvir â And a guy canât slap the girl? Mallika â No Ranvir â Why not? All are equal now. Q11. What's romance for you? Ranvir â A lot of affection. Q12. How was it to work with Ranvir? Mallika â He is superb to work with. Now Ranvir please don't be mean and say good things about me. Ranvir â Oh it was wonderful to work with Mallika. Tell me who else would have been ready to bear so much of brunt. She slapped me God knows how many times⦠Mallika â He is one of the finest actors we have. Ranvir â And bravest as well. Mallika â Yes, the bravest as well. All the girls will fall in love with him after watching the film. My cousin sisters and my mom have already fallen in love with him. Ranvir â Who will not like a guy who takes so many slaps and that too aaram se? Q13. What is good bad and pagli about Mallika? Mallika â For that you will have to watch the film Ranvir â No personal questions. Is it? Mallika â Yes⦠The interview is over now.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 2 Aug 2008 | 9:36 am Ranvir steals the show in 'Ugly Aur Pagli'Film: 'Ugly Aur Pagli'; Cast: Mallika Sherawat, Ranvir Shorey; Director: Sachin Khot; Rating: **Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 2 Aug 2008 | 9:33 am Subhash K Jha speaks about Ugly Aur PagliA rom-com that starts with a fart and a puke joke can only get better as it progresses. Sure enough Ugly Aur Pagli brings us a kind of detoxicated sex comedy where the gender war is telescoped into a vivacious tongue-in-shriek war of words between an outwardly mismatched pair. Suparn Verma's dialogues have a lived-in quality. Yup, two young people who are in love (but don't know it) would speak this language and probably feel some of the emotions too. If Ugly Aur Pagli looks so believably all-there, it's because of Ranvir Shorey's ability to remain normal and wimpish even when the world around him is exploding into little amusing atoms of undefined chemistry between the lead pair. But leadâ¦hmmm. This is more like the 'misled' pair, more sinned against than 'sing' Often you wish Shorey and Sherawat wouldn't get into those sweaty pubs and dance floors which have become a staple diet of all 'hip' and 'cool' films in recent times. Why must even a deviant rom-com like this one seek a comfort zone by traveling the sing-sing-swing-swing route? Ugly Aur Pagli has the guts to take its lead pair into avenues that are infrequent in Hindi cinema. The poor hangdog man is a bit of a timid docile lamb constantly being bullied by the sassy forever-inebriated girl who's so zonked she re-defines brassy burlesque on celluloid. Sherawat is a very limited actress and an even more limited dancer. She swings from loud boorish bullying to pseudo-sniveling in a rapid-fire of uneven emotions. She wobbles. But never falls. A lot of the scenes-some clever others are held in place by Shorey's amazing ability to make the mundane look super-interesting. Here's the ideal effortless working-class hero. An Amol Palekar with a lot of chutzpah and world-weary charm. Ranvir steps back to watch Mallika cavort at the highest shrillest pitch and makes sure she doesn't stumble over and fall. And we aren't just talking about the character's constant state of inebriation. Ranvir holds up a lot more than his co-star's drunken ceaselessly slumping figure. The film is a series of well-crafted chance encounters between two Mumbaites who are in search of companionship. The sequences are shot with a kind of unobtrusive flamboyance (if that isn't a contradiction in terms)â¦Mumbai doesn't look different. But it sure looks indifferent to the feelings of the sensitive. That's the whole idea of a familiar metropolitan backdrop, right? Ideally a rom-com should converge only on the two love birds. This one takes the rule too its extreme limit. Shorey and Sherawat are so much at the centre of it all, you wonder if the rest of the world is on a sabbatical. But watch out for Ranvir's encounter with Mallika's parents (played by Tinu Anand and Sushmita Mukherjee). Though this sequence 'belongs' to the two character actors, again, it's Shorey who gives character to the ambience. Would this sometimes-sassy, sometimes-sensitive constantly-searching rom-com have worked without Ranvir Shorey's penchant for producing pyrotechnics out of pedestrian working-class impulses? Hard to say. But then who can say what Ugly Aur Pagli has in mind? By the end of it all we don't even know who's 'ugly' and who 'pagli'. Because 'ugly' Ranvir wears a petticoat for one sequence and cycles all the way to pagli's home. Care to solve the mystery of the man-woman equation? This film has a go at it. Albeit in swipes of talkative satire that make the film resemble an American sitcom.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 2 Aug 2008 | 9:32 am Adlabs Films posts 217 percent revenue growth in first quarterIndian entertainment major Adlabs Films Ltd, a company of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), has announced a 217 percent growth in its consolidated revenue to Rs.2.54 billion in the first quarter of the current fiscal ending June this year.Source: IndiaeNews.com: Bollywood News | 2 Aug 2008 | 9:32 am Marathi playwright Chetan Datar passes awayWell-known Marathi playwright and director Chetan Datar passed away here Saturday morning. For starters, Vishal is a spunky autorickshaw driver from Mumbai, who won a cool Rs.10 lakhs in 10 ka Dum, a game show hosted by Salman Khan. Whatever be the case, Vishal is one happy man today as he can now fulfill his long cherished dream of taking his mother in an airplane. Not just that, he has also 'made' enough money on the show so as to take his younger sister and her husband along on a trip abroad and to help her buy a small flat of her own! What was so striking about Vishal is the fact that he was an English speaking autorickshaw driver, who, in his trademark humor, also revealed how he had saved money in a piggy bank to see his first ever movie. Ironically, the film was none other than the Salman-starrer Hum Aapke Hain Kaun at Liberty theatre, where he had gone with his mother and younger sister. "Until then nobody ever thought of taking us out to a film", said an emotional Vishal, who also added (read 'promised') that he will not to give up driving his autorickshaw in the city that made his dreams come true. After his stint in the blockbuster, Om Shanti Om, Arjun is all set to experiment newer horizons. He is all set to join the league of top restaurateurs by launching his chain of lounge bars. Bollywood Hungama decided to have a word with Arjun Rampal to know more about his latest interest. So, what is it exactly, a restaurant, hotel, bar? "It's a restaurant cum lounge bar. And I am opening this in Delhi. It also has a very interesting name 'LAP' implying Lounge And Party. We were thinking about a lot names but we wanted something different and yet simple so we just took the initials." From films to a straight jump into restaurant business, why such a leap? "Having a restaurant was something that I have always carried in my mind since long but having a restaurant in Mumbai is very difficult with respect to space. Finding a suitable place is very tedious and time consuming; in addition to that, I have a lot of film commitments as well. I have always been excited to open a place like this for late night parties, and for people to just hang out and chill out. I was toying with the idea for a while then one day, I met A.D. Singh (the partner and director of Olive Bar & Kitchen Restaurant). He told me about his desire to open something new. So we together decided on LAP. Anyways it would be great to begin with a partner; besides, A.D. Singh and me there is Shirish Saras, our third partner to this venture. I know Shirish for 20 years and share a great rapport. We short-listed a place at the Samrat Hotel in Delhi. It has great potential; it's large, and once the work is all done it would be really nice." But why Delhi? "It's a lovely place to start something new. I began my modeling career there. We will be opening another joint in Mumbai soon. LAP will raise the bar for lounges in Mumbai and Delhi. The interiors of LAP will be done by the best architect in India, Nozer Wadia. You will really have to wait for its opening to know any more details." So when is the D-Day'? "In Delhi, it will have a grand opening by November that is if we meet the deadline. It's like a challenge from my perspective, a need to do something different. That's all." On the film-work front, you look suave and sexy in Rock On. "Well, the credit goes to the director Abhishek Kapoor and Niharika who has worked on everyone's look. Rock On is inspired from individuals all over the world who have a dream. But somewhere due to many uncanny reasons we brush it off. One is stuck in the mundane routine of life. Would life be any different if you get an opportunity to change it, is the question often asked. The film is a musical and realistic; it talks a lot about relationships, friendship. The story revolves around a rock band called 'Magik', of which, I am the lead guitarist and Farhan Akhtar is the lead singer, Luke Kenny is keyboardist while Purab Kohli is the drummer. Prachi Desai is fabulous in the film, she is one of female actors in the film. The other girl is Shahana Goswami, she has a difficult role to play and Suhana has done an amazing job." You are doing another film titled Fox. "Fox is a thriller film directed by Deepak Tijori and I have begun shooting for the film. I cannot reveal anything more about the film. In addition to that, I am also doing a film produced by my production, 'Chasing Ganesha'. The details however will be announced within 2-3 weeks. I have finished shooting for EMI with Sanjay Dutt. Once I am done with the release of The Last Lear in September, I will begin shoot for Prakash Jha's Rajniti. Lastly, I will be doing Don 2 with Excel Films. Wow, I have almost narrated my life to you now."
