Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 1 Aug 2008 | 5:22 pm A rickshaw driver wins Rs.10 Lakhs on Dus Ka DumAmbition is the path to success and persistence is the vehicle you arrive in And if the vehicle is an autorickshaw, then, the driver has to be Vishal Netke. For starters, Vishal is a spunky autorickshaw driver from Mumbai, who won a cool Rs.10 lakhs in 10 ka Dum, a game show hosted by Salman Khan. Whatever be the case, Vishal is one happy man today as he can now fulfill his long cherished dream of taking his mother in an airplane. Not just that, he has also 'made' enough money on the show so as to take his younger sister and her husband along on a trip abroad and to help her buy a small flat of her own! What was so striking about Vishal is the fact that he was an English speaking autorickshaw driver, who, in his trademark humor, also revealed how he had saved money in a piggy bank to see his first ever movie. Ironically, the film was none other than the Salman-starrer Hum Aapke Hain Kaun at Liberty theatre, where he had gone with his mother and younger sister. "Until then nobody ever thought of taking us out to a film", said an emotional Vishal, who also added (read 'promised') that he will not to give up driving his autorickshaw in the city that made his dreams come true. Way to go, Vishal!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 1 Aug 2008 | 4:55 pm "I'm opening a restaurant cum lounge bar called LAP in Delhi" - Arjun RampalHe is a man of few words and opium of style and poise. After his stint in the blockbuster, Om Shanti Om, Arjun is all set to experiment into newer horizons. He is all set to get en route with top restaurateurs by launching his chain of lounge bars. Bollywood Hungama decided to have a word with Arjun Rampal to know more about his latest interest. So, what is it exactly, a restaurant, hotel, bar? "It's a restaurant cum lounge bar. And I am opening this in Delhi. It also has a very interesting name 'LAP' implying lounge and party. We were thinking about a lot names but we wanted something different and yet simple so we just took the initials." From films to a straight jump into restaurant business, why such a leap? "Having a restaurant was something that I have always carried in my mind since long but having a restaurant in Mumbai is very difficult with respect to space. Finding a suitable place is very tedious and time consuming; in addition to that, I have a lot of film commitments as well. I have always been excited to open a place like this for late night parties, and for people to just hang out and chill out. I was toying with the idea for a while then one day, I met A.D. Singh (the partner and director of Olive Bar & Kitchen Restaurant). He told me about his desire to open something new. So we together decided on LAP. Anyways it would be great to begin with a partner; besides, A.D. Singh and me there is Shirish Saras, our third partner to this venture. I know Shirish for 20 years and share a great rapport. We short-listed a place at the Samrat Hotel in Delhi. It has great potential; it's large, and once the work is all done it would be really nice." But why Delhi? "It's a lovely place to start something new. I began my modeling career there. We will be opening another joint in Mumbai soon. LAP will raise the bar for lounges in Mumbai and Delhi. The interiors of LAP will be done by the best architect in India, Nozer Wadia. You will really have to wait for its opening to know any more details." So when is the D-Day'? "In Delhi, it will have a grand opening by November that is if we meet the deadline. It's like a challenge from my perspective, a need to do something different. That's all." On the film-work front, you look suave and sexy in Rock On. "Well, the credit goes to the director Abhishek Kapoor and Niharika who has worked on everyone's look. Rock On is inspired from individuals all over the world who have a dream. But somewhere due to many uncanny reasons we brush it off. One is stuck in the mundane routine of life. Would life be any different if you get an opportunity to change it, is the question often asked. The film is a musical and realistic; it talks a lot about relationships, friendship. The band is called 'Magic', I am the lead guitarist of the band and Farhan is the lead singer, Luke Kenny is keyboardist while Purab is the drummer. It is the journey of 'Magic'. Prachi is fabulous in the film, she is one of female actors in the film. The other girl is Sahana Goswami, she has a difficult role to play and Suhana has done an amazing job." You are doing another film titled Fox. "Fox is a thriller film directed by Deepak Tijori and I have begun shooting for the film. I cannot reveal anything more about the film. In addition to that, I am also doing a film produced by my production, 'Chasing Ganesha'. The details however will be announced within 2-3 weeks. I have finished shooting for EMI with Sanjay Dutt. Once I am done with the release of The Last Lear in September, I will begin shoot for Prakash Jha's Rajniti. Lastly, I will be doing Don 2 with Excel Films. Wow, I have almost narrated my life to you now." We couldn't ask for more now, could we!Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 1 Aug 2008 | 4:40 pm Gowariker honoured for making movies with a purposeTalented filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker was honoured at the concluding ceremony of t...Source: India News | 1 Aug 2008 | 4:19 pm Gowariker awarded for purposeful cinema

The analysis took the form of an extensive survey (from 18th to 26th July) conducted online amongst those who really matter - the consumers. Spanning regions as diverse as India and South-East Asia to the European Union and USA-Canada, the user had to select his/her 5 most anticipated movies. To ensure complete transparency and accuracy, a three level authentication check with email validation, cookie check and IP mapping was put into place. The hot list of the Most Awaited Movies of 2008* truly proved to be the voice of the masses, garnering an overwhelming response. A 9-day survey, conducted between 18th July to 26th July, the poll saw 17,11,254 valid responses. Results were compiled based on votes from 67 countries - countries which constitute about 98% of revenue towards Bollywood releases. The poll threw up several interesting results generating quite a buzz in the industry. Source: NDTV Entertainment News | 1 Aug 2008 | 11:31 am Book Review: The Legends Of Indian Cinema - P.C. BaruaFrankly, not many would be interested in reading about the professional life of a man who made films in the 30s and the 40s, and that too mainly in Bengali. Universal audience is suddenly lost for a filmmaker since except for hardcore movie followers who are interested in knowing about the legacy that many great makers have left behind them, 'aam junta' won't really find itself enthused. This is why even as Shoma A. Chatterji writes a book on Pramathesh Chandra, mainly known to the world as P.C. Barua, as a part of six book series of 'The Legends Of Indian Cinema', there aren't many eyebrows that are raised. Yes, he is the same man who first made Devdas (in Bengali and then in Hindi) in the 30s but still one still one can't expect many takers for this book which is mainly a journey into the past. Sensing this, Shoma intelligently fuses the book with numerous anecdotes from the personal life of Barua who has been known as an enigmatic personality even 50 years after his death. Apart from exploring all material from the past which speaks about Barua's professional journey as a filmmaker who started off with a bang, only to see a steady decline in the closing years of his life, the author brings to fore numerous spicy incidents which qualify as solid ingredients for someone penning a tale that has all the drama converging into an ultimate tragedy. Shoma brings to fore quite a few legends associated with the life of Barua. One of them narrates an incident in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where Barua had performed the dramatized version of Devdas for stage. Such was his pull amongst the audiences that cinemas all over the city had to be shut down when Barua was performing. The film too was an all time blockbuster when released in Bengali and though K.L. Saigal was roped in as a leading man for the Hindi version, Barua as a filmmaker continued to be acclaimed for his most remembered work. However, as narrated in the book, his short personal life (which lasted only 48 years) wasn't really a bed of roses. Though he enjoyed a princely upbringing, deep inside he wasn't really a content person. Exploring something different with each of his films, he immersed himself completely into the art of film making though on marital front he faced quite a few challenges. While his first wife remained as his best friend and pillar of support forever, he found solace in his second wife. However, this wasn't accepted by his father who threatened to disinherit him completely. Instead of backing out of his love, he went his own way with his new wife, though it wasn't really a happy situation for them financially. There were days when they couldn't even enjoy a meal together and Barua used to lie that he had dinner someplace else so that the love of his life could eat whatever was available! Just when things seemed to be improving for Barua, his wife died and he hit the bottle a la Devdas. Not just that, the story on celluloid was perhaps the story of his own life since he started enjoying the company of countless mistresses who could never ever give him true love. Meanwhile he continued making films where he enjoyed consistent success when it came to Bengali films though his foray into Hindi films (with an exception of Devdas), was mainly disappointing. One interesting film which Shoma highlights in this book is Bengal 1983. Believe it or not but much before Harry Baweja decided to go futuristic with Love Story 2050, P.C. Barua had taken the lead and made Bengal 1983, a film which looked 50 years into future when made in early 30s. Guess what, the film was a huge flop since the audience wasn't really charmed by what they saw on screen! Barua though enjoyed quite a few wins for himself as well. While he was a pioneer when it came to some of the technical experiments going right, even in the world of art, he was the first to rope in a Rabindranath Tagore creation for a movie soundtrack. The film was called Mukti and though Tagore was hesitant to begin with, he allowed the song to be used in a film after much persuasion by Barua. Coming to his personal life, as narrated by Shoma, Barua was quite soft at heart and seldom took offense on anything. Never to loose his temper, he was once infuriated by an English girl in England. Keeping his anger under control, the maximum he did was hold the girl's nose and shake her up completely! It is incidents like the ones mentioned above which allow a reader to go through this book that otherwise holds little interest for its readers. The write-ups on the professional journey of Barua are hardly exciting and make you skip through lines in quick motion. Overall, the book is strictly for those who wish to do research on those who ruled the film world more than half a century back. Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 1 Aug 2008 | 10:52 am Danny, Mithun, Ravi Kishan and Imran bond well in South AfricaTo play the animal-like psychopath in Luck, Ravi Kishan had to forego the pleasure of co-hosting the second season of Bigg Boss with Shilpa Shetty. Says Kishan from Cape Town, "Shilpa and I were to co-host Bigg Boss. And after being inmates at Bigg Boss and Big Brother we'd have made a nice pair. But unfortunately this film where I play a psycho, required immense preparation. My character is like many animals rolled into one. Sometimes he's a hyena, sometimes he becomes a rabbit. I avidly watched the National Geographic Channel for weeks to understand and imbibe animal traits. This is the most complex role of my career, and thank God for my co-stars. All of us, Danny Saab, Mithunda, and of course Imran are one big boys' club. We work and party together. And women are not allowed. In fact, I've adopted Danny Saab as my Guru. There's no rivalry no one-upmanship. All of us have well-defined very rugged and sporty parts." Cape Town has suddenly come alive to major male bonding, thanks to Soham Shah's rugged outdoor sporty thriller, Luck, being shot out there. The film is being described as a 'Fear Factor' in feature-film format where all the main characters are on a high-risk mission in the rugged outdoors. Says Ravi, "We've to do any and everything from climbing mountains to plunging deep underwater to jumping off helicopters. Everyone had to get into special shape, me included. I've been working out doubly hard before coming to Cape Town." The Bhojpuri superstar sees Luck as his biggest break to date. "All of us have been given clearly defined parts. And there's no sense of one-upmanship among us. I've never worked in a more friendly atmosphere in my life. Even Imran who flew into South Africa after becoming an overnight superstar is a pleasure to work with . He's so down-to-earth and masoom. He told me he had seen me in 1971 and liked me. As for Shruti Haasan, she's the daughter of the living legend Kamal Haasan and already a rock star. But she has no attitude. She's one of us boys."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 1 Aug 2008 | 9:41 am Maan Gaye Mallika Sherawat - Sify

While the chirpy T.V. actress will be making her Bollywood debut with this film, she will also be making her singing debut in Rock On. When Bollywood Hungama called up Prachi to confirm the news, she seemed all excited. "Yaaaâ¦it's true that I have sung for a song in Rock On. In fact since yesterday, everyone has been asking me about this. It seems to have become big news already", laughs the chirpy actress. We asked her, how did this all happen and Prachi indeed had quite a funny story to narrate, "One fine day when I was shooting for Kasamh Se, I got a call from Abhishek asking me to come to a studio. I thought it may just be for a script reading session or discussing something about my role in the film. When I reached the venue, it was a music recording studio and I wondered if I have come to the wrong place. I just went in and I was made to listen to a song. The next thing I knew was that, Abhishek wanted to me to sing a few lines in the song. Although I was told that my character may have to sing a few lines for the film, I didn't know it would happen so soon. I am not a trained singer; however, I must say that things went pretty well and I could finish my part in a matter of few minutes" So how come her name doesn't feature in the list of singers on the Audio CD? "See, the song which I have sung is not there in the audio CD. Its not a full song, hence doesn't feature in the CD. However, the song will be there in the film" The songs of Rock On have indeed caught on big time, especially among the youth. So which is Prachi's favorite number from the film? "Since it's my first film, I am really crazy about all the songs of Rock On. I am only listening to the songs of Rock On in my car. What's more, I even snatch some of my friends' cell phones and put Rock On as their caller tune. If you ask me to pick my favorite number from Rock On, I really like the two female numbers 'Phir Dekhi' and 'Yeh Tumhari Meri Baatein'. The teaser of the latter song is currently on air and you can really unwind when listening to this song, be it at home, at work or even while in your car. It's a very feel good and soft song." So what does she think of co-star Farhan as a singer, "All the songs which Farhan has sung are simply unbelievable. I can't believe he has actually sung 6 songs in the film. There is a really slow number sung by him called 'Tum Ho Toh' which is simply amazing. While shooting, even before I heard the two female songs, this was the song which I heard first and I simply couldn't get it off my head. Even the song 'Pichle Saat Dinon Mein Maine Khoya' is so relatable to the youth. But I guess the two songs which have really caught on are the title track and 'Socha Hai'", says the vivacious actress. Finally, with less than a month to go for the release of her maiden film, what's Prachi feeling like? "I am excited and nervous both." says Prachi, with her trademark smile.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 31 Jul 2008 | 2:58 pm Veteran producer F.C.
