"I snatch my friends' cell phones and set Rock On as caller tune" - Prachi Desai

Bubbly actress Prachi Desai is looking forward to the release of Rock On for more reasons than one. While the chirpy T.V. actress will be making her Bollywood debut with this film, she will also be making her singing debut in Rock On. When Bollywood Hungama called up Prachi to confirm the news, she seemed all excited. "Yaaa…it's true that I have sung for a song in Rock On. In fact since yesterday, everyone has been asking me about this. It seems to have become big news already", laughs the chirpy actress. We asked her, how did this all happen and Prachi indeed had quite a funny story to narrate, "One fine day when I was shooting for Kasamh Se, I got a call from Abhishek asking me to come to a studio. I thought it may just be for a script reading session or discussing something about my role in the film. When I reached the venue, it was a music recording studio and I wondered if I have come to the wrong place. I just went in and I was made to listen to a song. The next thing I knew was that, Abhishek wanted to me to sing a few lines in the song. Although I was told that my character may have to sing a few lines for the film, I didn't know it would happen so soon. I am not a trained singer; however, I must say that things went pretty well and I could finish my part in a matter of few minutes" So how come her name doesn't feature in the list of singers on the Audio CD? "See, the song which I have sung is not there in the audio CD. Its not a full song, hence doesn't feature in the CD. However, the song will be there in the film" The songs of Rock On have indeed caught on big time, especially among the youth. So which is Prachi's favorite number from the film? "Since it's my first film, I am really crazy about all the songs of Rock On. I am only listening to the songs of Rock On in my car. What's more, I even snatch some of my friends' cell phones and put Rock On as their caller tune. If you ask me to pick my favorite number from Rock On, I really like the two female numbers 'Phir Dekhi' and 'Yeh Tumhari Meri Baatein'. The teaser of the latter song is currently on air and you can really unwind when listening to this song, be it at home, at work or even while in your car. It's a very feel good and soft song." So what does she think of co-star Farhan as a singer, "All the songs which Farhan has sung are simply unbelievable. I can't believe he has actually sung 6 songs in the film. There is a really slow number sung by him called 'Tum Ho Toh' which is simply amazing. While shooting, even before I heard the two female songs, this was the song which I heard first and I simply couldn't get it off my head. Even the song 'Pichle Saat Dinon Mein Maine Khoya' is so relatable to the youth. But I guess the two songs which have really caught on are the title track and 'Socha Hai'", says the vivacious actress. Finally, with less than a month to go for the release of her maiden film, what's Prachi feeling like? "I am excited and nervous both." says Prachi, with her trademark smile.

"Ranbir is very shy but once he opens up, he's a riot" - Minissha Lamba

It seems like Minissha Lamba is worried that I've been getting to know her too quickly. Her flawless face has already graced the cover of numerous magazines and newspapers after she starred in films like Corporate, Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd and Dus Kahaniyaan. The delightful Miss Minissha is unabashed in her enthusiasm. And why not? At 23, she is clearly enjoying herself and proving too, that's she's got the talent to match the belief that has been shown in her by some top filmmakers. So far, she has played a small but undoubtedly eye catching role in the films I've just mentioned but playing the magnificent 'Mahi' opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Yash Raj's next has proved to be one of the most vivid experiences of her career so far. In this exclusive, the actress gives Bollywood Hungama's Devansh Patel a guided tour of her new film Bachna Ae Haseeno, Bipasha Basu, Ranbir Kapoor, Siddharth Anand, her Patiala dress and her yet-to-be-boyfriend. You're ten films old Minissha in just three years. For a woman who wanted to pursue journalism is now herself the Page 3 girl. Any regrets? Not at all. No regrets. When things are going positive and you're happy being where you are, there will never be regrets. So tell me how did this cute Minissha with a smile to die for land up in Bachna Ae Haseeno? (Laughs) I think you've given all the pre requisites for a person to anyway land up. I mean, if it were anything else maybe it'd have been very difficult actually. Well, it was as simple as me getting a call from the producers of our film Mr. Chopra who wanted to meet me. I didn't know for what. When I met him, I discovered that some project was happening and in a few days time I was told to come and listen to the script. Of course, one doesn't have to listen or have a second thought about working with Yash Raj Films and that's how BAH happened. One doesn't have to listen or have a second thought about working with Yash Raj Films and that's how BAH happened Does that mean you got the role without being screen tested or auditioned? No I didn't give any auditions nor was I screen tested. You've worked with Bipasha Basu in Corporate. Any change you've noticed in her since your Corporate days? Not at all, she's the warmest and the most lovely person that one can come across. She is very friendly, down to earth and very endearing. She has one of the most beautiful smiles I've seen in a very long time. It's wonderful to watch her smile. And what change have you noticed in your own self? The only change I noticed is that I've become more professional and that I've become more aware of my surroundings. For any other external changes, someone on the outside would be able to know that more than me. The locales are the same locales Yash Raj shot DDLJ in, because that is what is vital to the story line. The Lucky Ali song, which features you and Ranbir, is just so fresh like you. What kind of freshness do we see you infuse in the film? When the film first opens, both of them are seventeen and eighteen year olds. Therefore, the fact that love is fresh for them and the whole experience of going out on their own with their friends and family is fresh for them. It infuses a sort of lightness and freshness that first love does in the lives of many people. So the locales are the same locales Yash Raj shot DDLJ in, because that is what is vital to the story line. My character 'Mahi' is a girl who is bred on DDLJ. She was bred on the perfect romance, which was between Raj and Simran in DDLJ, and here she is out looking for her perfect Raj. That's what she wants in her life, a perfect fairy tale ending to her love story. Download Bachna Ae Haseeno wallpapers Which does happen or doesn't? You'll have to watch the film for that. If I'm going to tell you everything right now, what are you going to watch the film for? Ever since we saw Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd we knew how gracefully you could shake a leg. Nothing can match those moves Minissha. What say? Will BAH give you the gracefulness back? I am not dancing in Bachna Ae Haseeno. I really begged Siddharth Anand that I'd love to dance but the songs and the choreography Ahmed Khan had in mind didn't require my character to dance so much. In 'Ahista Ahista', the moves are more about the moment of love, moments of discovering first love and true love. More than dancing it's the love that is emphasized on, in the song. Another thing that catches my attention is the lovely dress you're seen wearing in the film. Is that some sort of a 'lehenga'? It's called a Patiala. In the film, I'm dressed up very Indian. Mahi will be seen wearing kurtas and patialas, kurtas and capri's. She is from Amritsar with a very young look and the period of our romance is the year 1996. So we've used colors that were in fashion then, colors that add the freshness and vibrancies to the emotions that our characters go through. I really begged Siddharth Anand that I'd love to dance but the songs and the choreography Ahmed Khan had in mind didn't require my character to dance so much. Tell us your experience of working with the other two leading ladies in the film - Deepika and Bipasha. Well, we have very limited time onscreen together but whatever time we have is cherished because we got to be with each other for sometime at least. It's great to share screen space with everyone. Did you take Bipasha's guidance or ask for any advice as far as your acting was concerned? Actually I don't know because when you're on the sets and together, your performance is mainly dictated by your director and yes, I did ask Bipasha for fitness tips because she is someone who is so fit and so fabulously well aware of how to keep herself beautiful. So one definitely would like to know how she manages to do all of that. Your first time ever with the newest and the hottest poster boy, Ranbir Kapoor. I am a very shy person, I don't open up easily in front of new people, and if someone in front of me is shy as well then there is not much of conversation that would end up. That's what happened with Ranbir and me, we both were very shy. So yes, it did take time for us to open and be friendly but once we did get along, I discovered that Ranbir is a riot. He is so easy to get along with and a gentleman to the core. Working with him was fun, fabulous, and supportive. It makes your working day even more pleasurable when you're working with the people with whom you share the same wave length. Not many people in their career get an opportunity to showcase different talents like you have so early in your career with films like Dus Kahaniyaan, Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd and Corporate. You really don't want to get stereo-typed, do you? Yes. People are always comfortable when they stereotype you and slot you in a particular category. But my endeavor is to be a versatile actor, someone who can fit into any type of a role. I don't want to get slotted into a particular role. So, are you still finding the perfect Raj in your life? Any boyfriends? No boyfriend at the moment. And Yes, I think there is a bit of 'Mahi' in everyone, even in me. We are all in someway looking for our perfect mate. In some people, the dream dies out, in some people the dream is fulfilled, in some people you learn to negotiate with what you get. But one thing which is common in the people is that all of them are looking for the picture perfect romance and a fairy tale ending. Brief us about the different cities you visited while filming Bachna Ae Haseeno. For my chapter, we shot in Amritsar, Mumbai, and Switzerland. And how was the experience of working with only a three film old Sid? For a director, three films is a lot. I mean it's not new at all. He is the one who helms the film from beginning to the end. Sid is very young and a capable director who has made two very successful films before this. Bachna Ae Haseeno is also a fresh, bubbly, youthful and a romantic comedy, a genre that we haven't quite seen for quite sometime. I think there is a bit of 'Mahi' in everyone, even in me. We are all in someway looking for our perfect mate Any nervousness as the film hits the theatres in two weeks time. No nervousness and no butterflies in the stomach except that you've had so much fun making this film and you've put so much into it that you only want the people to love it. Any message for your fans? Thank you so much of being so supportive of my films and me. Please watch Bachna Ae Haseeno. It's a film that you will enjoy and the experience that you will take home with you will be even more fulfilling.

"I'm frightened…anything can happen to me" - Tanushree Dutta

Tanushree Dutta, in the news recently for her pow-wow with Nana Patekar is afraid to admit that she is…afraid! "I'm afraid that I'm afraid," she says with a nervous laugh. "That's why I've been talking against Nana Patekar and Rakhi Sawant long after she took over the item song from me with him. I feel upset and frightened….The MNS workers were put on the job to harass me after I dared to take on Nana for his behaviour." I tell her it's in bad taste to carry on her tirade against a senior artiste, no matter what the provocation. Tanushree agrees. "Maybe I should've stopped talking about it. But I did so only out of fear. I'm a girl from Bihar. I'm seen as an outsider in Mumbai, and I was reminded about it by a very senior member of the film industry recently. When I told him I felt threatened he turned around to ask, 'Who do you think you are, Amitabh Bachchan?' But this is not about being big or small. It's about my basic right to work with dignity in the industry. Why are people from within the industry trying to rob me of that right? When I recent attended a CINTA meeting, I felt they were talking Greek." It is then that Tanushree decided to get herself 24-hour protection. "It's sad that I feel the need to be guarded against my own colleagues in the film industry. But I no longer feel safe here even within the studio. I had done item songs before. But never had I been treated the way I was during the one for Horn OK Please." Tanushree admits she made those uncharitable comments about Rakhi Sawant being signed on because the producers wanted to have a bit of 'fun'. "I've been upset and I must've said it. They wanted Rakhi for the item song in the first place. They brought me in because they wanted to make it different. They should've gone ahead with her," says Tanushree who plays a super-heroine in Ramaa-The Saviour with wrestler Khalli. "I've a very Lara Croft kind of role. I've done all my stunts myself. And then in direct contrast I've Saas Bahu & Sensex where I'm a timid daughter-in-law. Kirron Kher plays my mom-in-law. So I'd rather focus on the good than the unsavoury." Next Tanushree goes into the shooting of Run Bhola Run where she's paired with Govinda for the first time. "I've met him. I worked with him in Bhagam Bhag. He's a thorough gentleman," she declares pointedly.

Big B's Shoebite gets a new title - Johnny Mastana

Click above for more stills Amitabh Bachchan's Shoebite was always a working title to begin with. Now as the film is more than 50% complete, it has got a final title for itself. The film would now be called Johnny Mastana. Confirms a source closely attached to the film, "Yes, the film finally has a title now. It would now be known as Johnny Mastana. The film's first set of teaser posters are already out and they have Johnny Mastana imprinted on them. In any case Shoebite was never a confirmed title so it can't be said that the film has gone though a title change." But why a title like Johnny Mastana? She reasons, "Doesn't Johnny Mastana sound more universal in nature? The film is meant for all segments of audience and Johnny Mastana gives just the right indications. We all love this title here and the moment it was first suggested, we just grabbed it with open arms." Apart from Amitabh Bachchan, the film also stars Sarika, Jimmy Sheirgill and Dia Mirza in key roles. Shooting of Johnny Mastana has been on since early this year and moving on at a decent pace. Since the film is touted to be revolving around the journey of a man across the entire nation, it involves numerous location changes. Nods Jimmy Sheirgill in agreement, "It is true. In fact for shooting certain sequences in the film, the time required to reach the location is more than the time we spend at the location. It has been a grueling, yet satisfying experience, for everyone involved." The film is directed by Shoojit Sircar of Yahaan fame. Incidentally Yahaan starred Jimmy Sheirgill in the lead and got him nationwide recognition. "The man is just made of something different", says Jimmy fondly, "He has an acumen for that perfect shot taking. Technically brilliant and quite well versed with the medium of cinema, it is a delight to be working with him on a subject as diverse as Johnny Mastana." While others in the film's cast have been busy wrapping up their portions, Amitabh Bachchan would resume shooting for the film once he is back from 'The Unforgettable Tour' in the month of September. Produced by UTV Motion Pictures, Johnny Mastana which has music by Shantanu Moitra, is now confirmed for a 6th March, 2009 release.

"Sanjay Chhel has worked very hard on the script" - Ratan Jain

In the world of Hindi film music and entertainment, one name has been synonymous with quality films and melodious music since nearly two decades. We are talking about Venus Films, which has in the past given us some really entertaining films like Khiladi, Baazigar, Dhadkan, Yes Boss and Josh to name a few. Mr. Ratan Jain has been one of the main persons responsible for the growth of this company from where it started till date. Now, Ratan Jain is all excited as he brings us yet another entertainer Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam which releases later this month. In an exclusive tête-à-tête with Bollywood Hungama, Mr. Jain talks about his latest film, Venus' future projects and how the future of the industry looks like. Venus Films is back after a gap of two years with Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam. How does it feel? It undoubtedly feels great. Why such a long gap after your last film Aap Ki Khatir (2006)? The gap is simply because I didn't come across the right project to start work on. Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam is quite a wacky title. What is the film all about? Also are you a big fan of the original classic Mughal-e-Azam? Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam is basically a comedy. However, let me make it clear that my film has got nothing to do with Mughal-e-Azam. Everyone knows that Mughal-e-Azam is a classic and a great film but as far as my film is concerned, Mughal-e-Azam is the name of a play which is performed by a theatre group. Everyone knows that Mughal-e-Azam is a classic and a great film but as far as my film is concerned, Mughal-e-Azam is the name of a play which is performed by a theatre group. How do you think the film has shaped up? The film has shaped up as per my expectations and I feel very good about it. Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat's magic worked big time in Pyar Ke Side Effects. Do you think they can recreate the same chemistry and magic all over again in this film? I think they can even better what they did in PKSE because this time they also have actors like Paresh Rawal and Kay Kay Menon for company. Venus' films are known for its music. With Anu Malik at the helm of things this time around, how do you think has the music of Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam evolved? The music of the film is already out and it is indeed very good. We have got 4 songs and all the songs are really nice. There is a song called 'Jab…Pyar Kiya Toh' which we have recreated, but it's a completely different and original composition. The songs are very contemporary. How has been the experience working with Mallika Sherawat? Mallika has been a thorough professional. She is really hard-working and has performed her part very well in the film. Mallika has been a thorough professional. She is really hard-working and has performed her part very well in the film. Sanjay Chhel is known to be a great writer; however his directorial ventures (Khoobsurat and Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa) haven't worked at the B.O. Does that bother you? Sanjay is really talented. Even he has directed a film after a long time. This time he has worked very hard on the script. Ultimately anyone who knows to make a film can make a good film any time. Venus usually distributes its own films but this tine you have tied up with Moser Baer. Why so? See it all depends on the offer you get. I got a good offer from Moser Baer so I decided to sell the film to them for distribution. They are distributing the film both here and overseas, however the music rights stay with us. How has been the experience working with Moser Baer? Very nice. We are sharing the whole promotion and publicity work with them but the release will be handled solely by them. Venus was one of the leaders in the 90's but you have been a little low profile off-late. Why so? Not really…we have made a lot of good and successful films in the recent past like Garam Masala, Hulchul etc…As I told you one needs to have a good script before starting a film. Hence, we have been working on that. You have been one of the veterans in this industry. Over the last 5 - 6 years, a lot of corporate companies have entered Bollywood and are pumping huge amounts of money. What do you have to say about this new and emerging trend? It's a nice thing actually. The film industry is growing and has been receiving a lot of money because of them. They have shown a new path be it in production or distribution to people who were already in this business. So even the existing players who have been around for a while need to gear up and be aware of the changes happening around them. I got a good offer from Moser Baer so I decided to sell the film to them for distribution. These days it's become quite a norm for some production houses and studios to announce films by the dozen. Most of these films also star some really big names. Do you think it is sustainable in the long run? I think this is how the corporate culture functions. They do believe in mass production. To be honest, signing somebody and announcing a film is no big deal but many at times even before the film actually starts, some things happen and the project never takes off. Hence, ultimately what matters is how many of these films actually go on floors and finally sees the light of the day. Ultimately what matters is how many films actually go on floors and finally see the light of the day Where do you see the Hindi film industry headed in the next few years? It is definitely going to grow a lot. The business is rising day by day both in the domestic market as well as overseas; with new players entering the market and the growth of multiplexes, I am sure things are only going to get better in the near future The film industry also has seen a lot of new talented actors making their presence felt. Who has managed to draw your attention? I happened to watch Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na recently and must say Imran Khan is very promising. I haven't yet got a chance to watch Harman's film but considering the fact that he has signed some big films, even his future looks really bright. I happened to watch Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na recently and must say Imran Khan is very promising. Recently which films have you enjoyed and liked? Jaane Tu…Ya Jaana Na is a really nice film With a lot of new and talented directors entering Bollywood, which one of them has managed to impress you? There are a lot of them. Abbas Tyrewala really impressed with his debut film Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na and even Aamir was superb in his directorial debut Taare Zameen Par Your company is also producing the Mallika Sherawat- Irrfan Khan starrer Naagin- the Snake Woman to be directed by Hollywood based Jennifer Lynch. Tell us about that film. Yes, we are co-producing Naagin starring Mallika Sherawat and Irrfan Khan. It will be directed by Hollywood director Jennifer Lynch. The film will be made in Hindi and English. I was more interested in distributing the Hindi version but now we have rights for both with us. We may have some Hollywood company to release the film for us overseas. The film go on floors this month end but will release sometime next year since special effects and post production will take nearly 3 - 4 months. Let's talk about some of Venus Films' future projects. What's in store next? I am starting a film with Priyadarshan starring Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal along with 3 heroines. The heroines are yet to be finalized. It's a comedy but doesn't have any similarity or connection to Hera Pheri series. Besides this, we have signed some directors like Sanjay Khanduri (Ek Chaalis Ki Last Local) but it's too early to talk about the film as its still in the scripting stages. I am starting a film with Priyadarshan starring Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal along with 3 heroines On a closing note, you had earlier announced plans of making a sequel to your super hit films Khiladi and Baazigar. What's the status on that front? A lot of fans are really waiting to watch that. (Laughs) I am already talking to my directors (Abbas-Mustan) and even they are working on finding the right script. Without there right script, we can't even approach any of the actors. Very soon we will be announcing a project with Abbas-Mustan.

Helen makes a comeback with Bachpan

Bollywood's original 'Dancing Diva' Helen will be seen making her comeback in Bollywood with a film titled Bachpan. The film is directed by debutante director Rajiv Sharma who has in the past assisted filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Satish Kaushik. Taking on from where last year's smash hit Taare Zameen Par left, Bachpan is a musical family saga, laced with emotions, seen from the perspective of children. In fact, when Rajiv Sharma decided to debut as a director, he zeroed in on this project which reflects the sensibilities of children. As for Helen's character, she plays the role of a grandmother in Bachpan. An elated Helen says, "The script was simply amazing. And when I read it, I was so overwhelmed, that I decided I had to do it. I have recently seen the rushes of the film and liked the way it has shaped up immensely." Apart from Helen, the film will also star another veteran actress Padmini Kolhapure along with four talented children.

Zayed Khan out of Mission Istaanbul's promotional campaigns

The ongoing tussle of priority between Zayed Khan's dates for Mission Istaanbul and Subhash Ghai's Yuvraj has reached a flashpoint. On Sunday Zayed was unable to attend a huge musical concert in Dehradun by the film's producers Popcorn Entertainment. Only producer Sunil Shetty, director Apoorva Lakhia and actor Nikiten Dheer (who plays the main antagonist) along with the musicians were present. Neither of the two protagonists Vivek Oberoi or Zayed Khan could attend. While Vivek is shooting in South Africa for a Tips film, Zayed, though in the country and extremely desirous of promoting what he considers to be his most important film so far, was committed to shoot for Subhash Ghai. And there's no way the Showman will allow his leading man to take time off from the shooting schedules when the film has already suffered innumerable delays. Says a source close to both the projects, "After the film got delayed Zayed's dates for Mission Istaanbul were obtained because of Salman Khan. In-between for whatever reason, Salman stopped shooting for Yuvraj. So there were chunks of Zayed's unused dates which the makers of Mission Istaanbul used. If Salman hadn't shuffled around his dates for Yuvraj, God knows what Zayed would've done. So basically, Zayed shot Mission on the time that Salman created." But now Subhash Ghai, harassed by the delay in his opus's completion is in no mood to slacken the last lap of the shooting for any reason. Says Sunil, "We were aware Zayed couldn't join us in Dehradun. So his non-presence was no shock to anyone. Of course we'd have liked him to be with us. But he was needed for Subhashji's shooting. So we had no choice." Ironically, Sunil intends to promote Mission Istaanbul in a big way in traditionally neglected promotional areas like Uttaranchal. And these are places where the stars provide face value. "Normally areas like Uttaranchal and Bihar aren't seen as being important for a film's promotion. But I feel we need to push our cinema in the non-metropolitan centres specially an action film like Mission Istaanbul." Sadly, it will have to be done without either of the film's leading men.
