Hansika bags Best Debutante Award at the 55th Filmfare Awards (South)Hansika, the cherubic actress who was seen opposite Himesh Reshammiya in Aap Kaa Surroor, is surely going places. While the bubbly actress is already a well known face in Bollywood, she has also managed to make a name for herself down South. In fact, Hansika was awarded the Best Debutante Award at the 55th Filmfare Awards (South) held in Chennai last week. What makes this award all the more special for Hansika is that she competed against 18 other actresses of Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam films and came out triumphs! She won the award for her performance in the Telugu film Desamuduru which has run for more than 200 days and still continues to draw in an enthusiastic audience. With Hansika's debut film in the South fetching her so many accolades, we wonder if she would be seen more often down South. As for her Bollywood career, Hansika is eagerly looking forward to the release of her upcoming film Money Hai Toh Honey Hai where she would be seen sharing screen space with Govinda.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 14 Jul 2008 | 5:07 pm Hansika bags Best Debutante Award at the 55th Filmfare Awards (South)Hansika, the cherubic actress who was seen opposite Himesh Reshammiya in Aap Kaa Surroor, is surely going places. We are talking about none other than actress Eesha Koppikhar (yes thatâs how she now spells her name). Eesha received a rather pleasant surprise recently when she was asked to be one of the judges at the Miss Universe beauty pageant which took place in Vietnam today (July 14). Eesha thus becomes the first Bollywood actress to judge the prestigious Miss Universe contest. She initially couldnât believe her luck and even thought someone was pulling a fast one on her; it was only when her Hollywood agent Simone Sheffield confirmed the news that Eshaa finally believed her. The next thing you know, Eesha was seen packing her bags to Vietnam. At the Miss Universe beauty pageant, Eesha was hobnobbing with some real big celebrities such as Donald Trump Jr, Louis Licari (international hair stylist) Mel B (of Spice Girl band) and Jerry Springer (who will be hosting the show).Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 14 Jul 2008 | 4:36 pm Mallika slaps, kisses and doodles in Ugly Aur PagliClick above for more stills Whatever Madame Mallika Sherawat does, makes for interesting reading. Mallika has this habit of doodling. In fact, whenever she is sitting idle, she starts scribbling on a piece of paper without realizing it. On the sets of her forthcoming film Ugly Aur Pagli, her real life habit of doodling inspired director Sachin Khot to incorporate it even in her reel-life character too. Its no wonder then that Mallika's character in the film, Kuhu, is seen extensively doodling and every time she doodles; Ranvir is seen fantasizing about the things she has written on paper. Says debutant director Sachin Khot, "When I saw her making all sorts of designs on a piece of paper and that too subconsciously, I loved the thought and concept so much that I decided to incorporate it even in her on-screen character. The only addition that I have made in the doodling is that instead of designs, she doodles words." Her doodling however leads to lot of hilarious scenes in the film. "Mallika's character doodles weird stories and she uses Ranvir as the guinea pig to listen to all of them. If that was not enough, she also plays music on her ipod and plugs it into his ears to create the background score. This actually leads Ranvir into a fantasy world and he starts imaging the stories", says Sachin. "This whole idea fits into the film completely as Mallika plays a 21st century woman who is the one calling the shots in the relationship and Ranvir plays a loser who follows her completely", he adds. Well, now apart from the 99 slaps and 1 kiss, we also have Mallika's doodling to look forward to in Ugly Aur Pagli.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 14 Jul 2008 | 3:39 pm "Abhishek goes mad on stage" - Riteish DeshmukhIt is not very often that you see Riteish Deshmukh give interviews and not crack a joke, and the reason is that when he gave this one, he was down with a viral infection, cold, and flu. But as promised, he did not turn his back and came to promote his first world tour, 'The Unforgettable Tour', along with his fellow co-stars, the Bachchans and Preity Zinta in Mumbai last Friday. One of the very few bankable stars of today, this actor has a habit of delivering his best even when he is at his worst, be it on the big screen, live on the stage or in this quick chat with Bollywood Hungama's Devansh Patel. What happened to your voice? It's sounding a bit hoarse? I'm not well yaar! Down with a viral and shooting, rehearsals and no time to rest. Anyway, then let's start with the interview. Don't you feel that you are the odd one out from all your colleagues? Will you be providing that added masti in the tour? Odd one out, I don't know. But it's a good mixture right from the senior stars like Amitabh Bachchan, to younger stars like Abhishek and me and you have immense popularity of Aishwarya Rai all over and Preity Zinta who have been around for a long time now. So you can say I'm the odd one out because I'm the youngest. But overall, it should be fun because the kind of songs I'm going to perform are also the kind of image I have. I'm the odd one out because I'm the youngest. Are you going to start the tour by dancing on Bluffmaster's 'Bure Bure Hum Hum Hum Shaitan, Zaara Zaara Bachna Re Humse'? (Laughs) Wow! That's a good suggestion. But I am sure if I'll be doing this number, I'll put in as much of enthusiasm as I can. As an actor, you've played more mischief than any of your co-stars have, except Mr. Bachchan, but are we going to see some serious moves this time around? You know, I'm trying to do different stuff where primarily I'm doing Aladin and the Mystery of the Lamp which is not a comedy. Then I move on to a more romantic side of me after my first film. So trying to venture out in romance after a long time. And comedies will keep on being an integral part of my career. As far as the tour is concerned, I am going to be seriously different. Wait and watch! Abhishek is just fantastic. He has his own style, then he goes mad on the stage and I'm looking forward to that madness. From the entire Unforgettable gang, you've only managed to shake a leg with Abhishek Bachchan. Tell us something about this 'Bluffmaster'. How good is he? He is just fantastic. He has his own style. The Abhishek fan following that started since 'Dus Bahane' and 'Right Here Right Now' was because he brought in that coolness which no other actor got in Hindi films. This good looking, tall guy rapping songs and having great screen presence became a cult. Then he goes mad on the stage and I'm looking forward to that madness. How difficult was it to train under the perfectionist called Shiamak Davar? You are right. Shiamak is a perfectionist. The best part about it is that he designs songs for the actors and he knows. He won't give a difficult step but steps that will look good on the actor. You have to see it to believe it. He likes doing different things every time he is on stage with his actors and 'The Unforgettable Tour' will prove exactly that. Are you going to spike your hair? And what sort of different and funny costumes we are going to see you in? Loads of costumes yaar! My designer for this tour is Shiraz. Stage costumes are very different. There is not going to be a normal shirt. There'll be shine and glitter and you'll not dare to think of wearing such costumes out on the road. As far as my hair is concerned, I'll be spiking my hair definitely and doing all sorts of different hair styles, cutting my hair and coloring it. In addition, for 45 days, I am not committed for any films and thus I'm not bothered about my hairdo. You were last seen in London at the Zee Cine Awards 2008, which took place at the Excel Docklands. O2 centre is ten times bigger than Excel Docklands. Having said that, only Elton John and Madonna have managed to fill up the arena so far. Will this tour achieve the impossible? As I said, I'm the new one here. This is my first worldwide tour. I had no idea about how big the arena was and we were not informed about that, how was it going to be filled up, etc. I am sure Wizcraft must have come up with some sort of planning regarding that. I'm just glad to be performing where famous international celebrities have performed before. For 45 days, I am not committed for any films and thus I'm not bothered about my hairdo. Are you going to perform solo on the stage or will it be with other stars? Of course I am going to perform solo on stage. My entire first act is a solo act with all the songs from the films I've been a part of. There are only portions of me where I share the stage with other actors. So it's a great mix. Which song would you prefer dancing to alone on stage? Lots of yaar! There are songs from Cash, Heyy Babyy, songs like 'Dil Mein Bajee Guitar', etc. There are songs from Cash, Heyy Babyy, songs like 'Dil Mein Bajee Guitar', etc. Do you feel proud of the fact that you are a part of 'The Unforgettable Tour' or is it like any other tour? As a child, I never thought that I'd be an actor. Now that was past; I am here in front of you and that is the present. Being an actor and then going on a world tour is another unbelievable thing and then being a part of the tour that is headed by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and friends like Abhishek, Aishwarya, Preity, and Akshay (with whom I've worked in my last film Heyy Babyy) is another. Then there is Madhuri Dixit. What can I say about her? I have been a huge fan of her since I was a kid and used to have a huge crush on her. So as the title suggests, all this is going to be just 'Unforgettable'. And to answer your question, I do feel proud. I've performed once in London with Salman and Shah Rukh. Obviously, the crowd came to see SRK and Salman but to be a part and feel the response was truly great Your female fans will be desperate to see you perform and act on stage. But will you reciprocate to them by singing and dancing to 'Ae Chori, Zara Nachke Dikha' from Cash? (Laughs) Of course, I'd love to start off by saying that. That's going to be one of the songs I'm performing on. Look out girls! You've travelled to many cities around the world with your films. Where are you looking forward to perform the most? I think, London for sure because it's a place where there are not only lots of Indians but even non Indian people in the form of Bangladeshi's and Pakistani's who love our films and songs and give us their undying love and support. I've performed once in London with Salman and Shah Rukh. Obviously, the crowd came to see SRK and Salman but to be a part and feel the response was truly great. That was a few years ago. But as you said that O2 centre is ten times bigger, I hope this show too is ten times bigger than all the shows taken place there. Any message for all your London fans then? Well, all I can say is, get ready for full on dhamaal and masti.Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 14 Jul 2008 | 2:53 pm Konkona Sen Sharma opposite Paresh Rawal in Sanjay Chhel's FantasticThere can never be a better title for a film than Fantastic when you have ace actors like Paresh Rawal, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Javed Jaffrey coming together for it. Sanjay Chhel announces his next film, Fantastic, which is being produced by Percept Pictures. "Fantastic is a romantic-comedy film. The film has a deadly combination of some great actors, namely, Paresh Rawal, Konkona Sen Sharma, Neha Dhupia, Rahul Khanna, and Javed Jaffrey", says Sanjay Chhel, the director of the film. The most intriguing fact about the film is that Konkona will be paired opposite Paresh Rawal. "Konkona will be playing a role of a typical woman from today's society and is paired opposite Pareshji, that's not all; she also gets paired opposite Rahul Khanna, who plays a millionaire in the film, and opposite Javed Jaffrey as well. Neha Dhupia's character in the film is also something to watch out for. Rahul will shed his image of a simple look as he will be showcased as a flamboyant and maverick kind a character, his looks will be terrific and stylized; in short he will look different." So what is Fantastic all about? "Of course you do not expect me to tell you the story now. But I'll tell you this, it revolves around the society, page 3, lifestyle etc. I have written both the screenplay and lyrics for the songs as well", says Sanjay. This is part of the 3-film deal with the Percept Pictures right? "Yah, I will be doing two other films with them one is an action comedy and the other is a sarcastically comedy flick. At present the films are still under scripting stages so there's nothing more to say to it." Fantastic is scheduled to go on floors by August end; meanwhile Sanjay Chhel also is geared up with Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam, which releases on August 22.Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 14 Jul 2008 | 2:30 pm Guess whoIt's time to make your Mundane Monday Mornings a little bit exciting. The man whose film had almost won an Oscar for itself close to half a century back, Mehboob Khan has always been referred to a legend. But how many hardcore movie buffs, let aside the regular Hindi movie audience, really know the vast repertoire of work that Mehboob Khan possessed? If asked to name a few films that were made by the man who had run away from his home in Gujarat with dreams of becoming an actor, only to turn into an acclaimed director over the next couple of decades, one may just come up with an Aurat or an Anokhi Ada or an Anmol Ghadi! How about a path breaking Amar, Aan or Andaaz? How about a historical Humayun? Or a norm-defying Ek Hi Raasta? Or about 20 odd other films which he made between 1935 and 1962? Chances are high that it would be difficult to have these films at your fingertips. This is where the book comes in handy as for the students of cinema from the era gone by; it works as a reference handbook and provides insight into the life of a filmmaker who mixed commerce with message. As narrated in the book, unlike so many other people associated with the world of films, Mehboob Khan didn't really have a kind of lifestyle or virtues that would make for a spicy copy. Neither was he a pretentious filmmaker nor laidback to project a relaxed persona. Instead, he comes across as a man who was rooted to the art of filmmaking and was constantly looking at pushing the envelope. Of course, failures did hurt him as well that made him go back to the formula but till his last film Son Of India, he attempted to tell something new to his audience. Now this was quite an achievement for a man who once came to Mumbai to be an actor, only to find himself being a part of a casket for his debut scene! As an extra who played one of the 40 thieves in Ali Baba Aur Chalis Chor, he was hidden in a casket throughout the take, an incident that continued to amuse Mehboob Khan over the years. The book explores Mehboob Khan's gradual transition from an actor to a director. Though Khan did come close to playing a leading role after being an extra for majority of outings, luck didn't favor him and the role went to a different actor. Not to fret upon the lost opportunity, Khan decided to hold the camera and went on to become India's leading filmmakers. His Aurat (which was later remade into Mother India) got him all around appreciation which made him a director of very good repute. Later, he even came up with his own production company and continued to taste success as before. One may remember the golden words 'Muddai Lakh Bura Chahe To Kya Hota Hai, Wahi Hota Hai Jo Manzur-E-Khuda Hota Hai' that used to loom large at the beginning of every Mehboob Khan film? Well, the trademark lines, which were recently heard in Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om, had the voice of Rafique Ghaznavi who was a new composer hired by Mehboob Khan! As Mehboob Khan's career progressed, he started roping in actors who were to become legends in years to come. While he introduced a 14 year old Nargis in Taqdeer [who went on to deliver her career's best performance with Khan's own Mother India], he also created a casting coup of sorts by bringing together Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar with her in Andaz. In fact, Dilip Kumar was later slated to play Nargis' wayward son in Mother India but the role went to Sunil Dutt instead. There were even talks of an Indian born actor from Hollywood - Saboo - being roped in for the role but destiny had its own plans. Nargis and Dutt came together and soon found themselves tying the knot! While the book does come up with quite a few anecdotes around the films that Mehboob Khan made and his approach while dealing with actors, the most enjoyable is the one that narrates an interesting incident between Khan and composer Naushad. While the music of Anmol Ghadi was being made, Khan used to constantly give his suggestions to the composer with specific details about beats and rhythm. While Naushad didn't quite appreciate the fact, he waited for the right moment and teased Khan about taking a shot differently while being on the sets. Khan got the point and never interfered again with Naushad's work! Noted film critic and journalist Rauf Ahmed takes it on himself to make the lovers of Indian cinema aware about Mehboob Khan - the man who not many realized in the era gone by that one day he would be elevated to the status of being a legend. Of course exploring a subject like this doesn't have a wide audience. It comes with its own limitations since more often than not a filmmaker always has lesser fan following than an actor and though one may still love to catch hold of a biography of a Dev Anand or a Dilip Kumar, there would always be a restricted audience for a Mehboob Khan. Still, Rauf's effort is commendable since in a 100 page write-up, he reintroduces the man who was said to be one of the very few modern Indian filmmakers of the era gone by who dared to experiment and more often than not succeeded. The film has created an all around euphoria which means that the competition becomes tougher (and exciting) for Pritam and Vishal-Shekhar to challenge Rahman. None 2 2 Bachna Ae Haseeno 'Khuda Jaane' has easily become one of the biggest hits for Yash Raj Films in last one and a half years. And to think of it, rest of the songs from the album are yet to be unveiled. For Vishal-Shekhar, soundtrack of 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' is looking at being a universal success. None. This one is a complete package affair and carries a core Bollywood essence to it. 3 3 Singh Is Kinng After the title song 'Bas Ek King' and 'Jee Karda' turning out to be chartbusters, one now waits to hear rest of the songs from the album. Though 'Bhootnike' should be a smash-hit too, Snoop Dogg composed 'Singh Is Kinng' should be quite a rage when released early August. If not for 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' seeing a simultaneous release, 'Singh Is Kinng' would have been the sole competition for JTYJN 4 2 Kismat Konnection Keeping it sweet and simple, 'Kismat Konnection' enjoys it's own place under the sun with the big ones fighting it out on the top. The film's release is less than a week away and though it looks improbable that this Pritam soundtrack would break into Top-3, it still has managed to enjoy a good run for itself. There should have been some more gap between the soundtrack and film release since three more songs are waiting to be introduced into the promotional plans for 'Kismat Konnection' 5 6 Jannat Back into Top-5 after a sudden fall over the week gone by, 'Jannat' marks a hat trick for Pritam with three of his albums reigning from the top. The composer is enjoying a similar phase which Himesh Reshammiya was enjoying in 2005-2006. None 6 10 Ugly Aur Pagli Announcing it's biggest jump into the charts, 'Ugly Aur Pagli' has moved straight to #6 after being at the bottom of the charts in the week gone by. This one is turning out to be a successful album for Anu Malik who has finally started making an impression in the current season. Since the film doesn't boast of a conventional star-cast, title and music, it would take some time to grow further. Release of the film should help the sales further. 7 7 Race Fourth Pritam album in the charts, 'Race' continues to be a hot competition even as the second half of the year has begun. With such a huge success to their name, it would be interesting to see whether Abbas-Mustan or TIPS would be able to ignore the composer for their subsequent films. None 8 5 Love Story 2050 With the decline of the film, the music too has taken a fall and has dropped by 3 positions in the charts. A pity, since at least a couple of songs could have gone a good distance had the film made an impression with the audience. 'Love Story 2050' always missed one bona fide chartbuster track 9 9 Ada 'Ada' continues to fight at the bottom though one waits to see for how long. Still, it is an accomplishment to find itself in the charts in spite of albums like 'Tashan', 'Jodhaa Akbar' and recent release 'Money Hai To Honey Hai' on the stands. Beyond A.R. Rahman there is absolutely noting else known about the project 10 8 Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic On it's way out, 'Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic' has more or less ended it's run in the charts. 'God Tussi Great Ho' and 'C Kkompany' arrive this week which should announce pack-up time for this Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy album. YRF seemingly gave up on the movie and the music even before it's release. That should say it all! Source: Google News India - Entertainment | 14 Jul 2008 | 9:41 am Mugdha Godse signs 3 film contract with PerceptDownload image as wallpaper She is yet to make her big screen debut (in Madhur Bhandarkar directed Fashion) but popular ramp-walker and model, Mugdha Godse, already has quite a few biggies in hand. She has been signed by Percept Pictures Company under a three film contract and is now all set to be working with some of the bigwigs of the film industry. Over to the soft spoken Mugdha who continues to maintain her poise even on the face of such a huge leap in her just-started Bollywood career. "Don't be surprised because that's the way I function", replies Mugdha on being quizzed around how, unlike her contemporaries, she isn't quite heard or spoken about before her debut release Fashion, "That's not my style. For some it may be a way to keep making headlines but I would rather have everything firmly in place before I let people know about it." The Percept offer appears to be quite an event in her professional career that is kicking off, isn't it? "True, I am happy that the buzz and hype about Fashion has been making quite a few people sit up and notice the project. PPC were aware about the progress that Fashion was making and were seemingly cued in about my performance too", reveals Mugdha who is said to be playing an integral part of Fashion even with Priyanka Chopra and Kangna Ranaut being relatively senior actors in the film. Since she has been offered three films, would she be playing a lead role in each of these films? "Absolutely", Mugdha is quick to react, "The films that I am doing with PPC would have me in a lead-lead kind of a role. Also, since the production house has 10-15 films in the pipeline, the role that I would eventually end up doing would be by mutual consent between me and the director. I should like the film and the director should also find me suitable enough for the part." How about working in films outside PPC? Informs Mugdha, "The good part is that this is a non-exclusive contract. In plain and simple terms, this means that I don't have to do their three films in a row and in the interim can work in a film outside PPC as well." PPC has directors like Priyadarshan, David Dhawan, Shimit Amin, Nagesh Kukunoor and Madhur Bhandarkar amongst others on board. Any favorites when it comes to choosing the filmmakers with whom she would want to work with? "These are the best in the business so you can't really choose one over another", says Mugdha diplomatically, "And I said earlier, it just can't be me choosing a project or the director. It has to be mutual."Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 14 Jul 2008 | 9:32 am Youth faints playing in fear factor 'Khatron ke Khiladi'Fear factor 'Khatron ke Khiladi' turned really dangerous in this Madhya Pradesh city when a 22-year-old participant fainted under water during the thrill-packed game.
