"Jail will give a ringside view of Indian jails" - Madhur Bhandarkar

His Fashion may still be at least 4 months away but Madhur Bhandarkar is not resting. While he is busy looking at wrapping up the last schedule of the Priyanka Chopra starrer, he has announced his next film Jail. Yet again, the filmmaker who recently won a National Award for the Best Director (Traffic Signal) is aiming for a realistic take in Jail that promises to be follow the hard hitting trend of Chandni Bar, Satta, Page 3 and Corporate. "Yes, Jail too is going to be a hard hitting affair while the film's narrative would be set as a thrilling drama," says Madhur Bhandarkar who has roped in Neil Nitin Mukesh as the main lead for the film." Why Neil? "I was quite impressed by Neil in Johnny Gaddar," exclaims Madhur, "His wasn't a conventional debut but still his performance spoke volumes. I knew then that he had to be a part of my film." On his end, Neil says, "It is a dream come true to be working with Madhur. I know that I am not a big star or a great actor but still Madhur has showed his trust and faith in me. Working with him, I am sure that he would extract a good performance out of me. I can't wait for the film's shooting to begin." A co-production of Percept Picture Company and Bhandarkar Entertainment, Jail, which is written by Manoj Tyagi (Writer - Page 3, Corporate, Satta and Apaharan, Director - Mumbai Salsa), would get on floors in the month of October and as per the plans, it's shooting would be through by November. The makers have already announced the release date as May 1, 2009. "By nature, I am a very restless person," smiles Madhur whose biggest film till date, Fashion, boasts of a huge star cast and mega Crore budget, "Fashion has it's own grandeur and scale that required the film to be shot over a period of time. However, Jail should be a quickie." From Fashion to Jail, isn't it quite some transition to be moving from the world of glitz and glamour to gritty locales? "That's the entire fun and challenging part," beams Bhandarkar whose Jail promises to be depicting the real scenarios about the happenings within and outside Indian jails, "Jail has been designed as a film which would give a ringside view of what happens in Indian jails. Typically, in Hindi films, a jail is shown as pretty glorified, but in case of my film that's not going to be the case. It is going to be realistic while keeping the entertainment quotient in mind." Over the years, it has been observed that Bhandarkar cinema bears resemblance to real life situations while characters too are straight out of life and can be identified with. Is that going to be the case in Jail too? "Absolutely," Bhandarkar is quick to respond here, "My main protagonist in the film, Parag Dixit (Neil Nitin Mukesh), comes across quite a few characters while being lodged in a jail. Audience would be able to identify with quite a few of them." In fact, as per rumors, the film also references the real life case of Mumbai based Alistair Periera who was recently sentenced for running over his car on laborers sleeping on the street. While the film has Neil Nitin Mukesh as the central protagonist, it would boast of en ensemble cast, something that is the hallmark of Bhandarkar films. "Yes, the film would have quite a few characters contributing to the plot. While Neil has been finalized, names of others would be announced soon. These would again be a bunch of talented versatile actors who promise a rock solid performance," comments Bhandarkar who has quite a few regulars like Upendra Limaye and Manoj Joshi on his rolls. What is Jail? Jail is a hard-hitting yet sensitive tale of an ordinary man Parag Dixit (played by Neil Mukesh) who finds himself inside the four walls of a prison due to a series of unfortunate events around him. The film is from his point of view and tells the stories of several other inmates. Some of these are under trials, convicts and also the cops who are in charge of maintaining order in the prison.

Bollywood Loves Goa

Whenever one thinks of Kashmir, the first saying that comes to your mind is that of, 'If there is a paradise on earth, it is here, it is here, it is here.' But when anyone thinks of Goa, the first saying that comes to mind is…actually nothing! One does not waste time in thinking of sayings and slogans. All that one does is 'Break-Free' from all the daily stress and humdrums. Ever wondered how the B-town celebs perceive Goa as? Well read on and feel refreshed! Esha Deol (actress): "Since I'm a total beach bum, Goa is one of the best spots India has to offer me. Lately however it's become too commercialized and not so safe. But I'll always have fond memories of my Goan holidays." Pooja Bedi (TV host, socialite) : "I go to Goa at least 3-4 times a year. I love the spirit of openness and the fact that I can frolic on the beaches in a bikini with my kids without being harassed. I love the water sports, the restaurants, and international feel." Sonu Sood (actor): "Yes Goa is my favourite holiday spot. I go there every year. I think it's the liveliest place in the world. Everyone is in the party mode. You forget all your worries. Also, after having shot two films there I can swear there can be no better place to shoot." Chitrangda Singh (actress): "Goa is the Indian Europe. Great energy and feel!" Raima Sen (actress): "I love Goa. I go at least 4 times a year. I love the seafood, beaches and shacks. I love the chilled-out life there. And the friendly vibes of the place. I can comfortably let my hair down." Minissha Lamba (actress): "Goa is among the most easily accessible holiday spots, and one of those places where the beaches are 'swimmable'." Arbaaz Khan (actor): "Goa is definitely my favourite holiday spot. It's chilled out, not much hustle-bustle… I love the place, people, food, and eating-places. Being close to Mumbai it's an ideal vacation spot." Tusshar Kapoor (actor): "I've only been to Goa for shootings. I love the place. The ambience is excellent…I love the water and the warmth of the people. It's the ultimate place to go to get out of the rat race." Imtiaz Ali (director): "Hey Goa is big in my life. I go there very often, but still not as often as I'd like. I'd like to live the life of a hippy or a nomad on one of the beaches there. I'd like to just travel around the beaches and villages. Life is not possible for me without Goa. It takes the traffic and the noise out of my blood system." Rohit Roy (TV and film actor): "Goa has been my favourite Indian holiday destination from the time I was in college. My affair with Goa started as a fling and now it's a full-fledged romance. Earlier I'd go with a bunch of friends. But now it's become a hotspot for family holidays. My wife Manasi and baby girl Kiara are as much beach persons as I am! We go to Goa once or twice a year. I absolutely adore the place's chilled-out pace. It's a great destresser after Mumbai which leaves me breathless. I love Goan food, prawn curry, and rice being my favorite. Oh I love everything about Goa!" Arshad Warsi (actor): "I love Goa. The place slows me down. I go there as often as I can." Aryan Vaid (actor): "To be honest Goa isn't a favourite holiday spot. It's a beautiful place. But it doesn't do magic for me. Maybe because I live right across the beach in Mumbai. I prefer cool mountain places. Haven't been to Goa for two years. The drug scene in Goa is scary. I was once shooting in Goa and some locals misbehaved with our actresses." Sammir Dattani (actor): "Since I am total water person Goa is THE place for me. At least twice a year I take off with a bunch of friends. We never get out of the water." Amrita Arora (actress): "Though I like Goa my favourite holiday spot is London. I go at least twice a year. I love the vibe, the shopping and weather." Iqbal Khan (TV actor): "I've never been to Goa for a holiday. It's always been work. I think it's an over-hyped place. Besides I prefer hills to beaches." Niharika Singh (model, actress): "I like Goa. But it isn't my favourite holiday spot. Yes, I've been to Goa. But I'm not one of those who makes it a point to go there every year religiously. I love the seafood and flea markets in Goa." Priyanka (Nisha) Kothari (actress): "Ya Goa is cool. I like everything about it. Though I usually travel wherever my work takes me, I don't mind going to Goa just so." Tanushree Dutta (actress): "Goa is a favourite holiday spot. I manage to go twice a year. What I like best are the little shacks by the beaches and the old-world charm about the place." Malaika Arora (VJ, actress): "I don't think there's any better place to holiday than Goa. I love it! My husband Arbaaz and I always dreamt of owning a home there. And now our dream is coming true." Koena Mitra (actress): "Goa is one of my favourite holiday spots. You just can't get bored of Goa. I'm a beach girl and I love Goan seafood. I also love their music and their parties are high-energy. Winter is the right time to go to Goa."

Anubhav Sinha gets interested in notorious poacher Sansar Chand

Director Anubhav Sinha has been trying to meet Sansar Chand, the notorious wildlife poacher arrested in 2005 and who's now in Ajmer Jail. Says Anubhav, "I've to meet Sansar Chand to understand the mind of a poacher, his relationship with wild animals specially tigers. My next film entitled Kajri which I'm writing and producing is about the relationship between a forest officer and a man-eating tigress with which he develops an enduring bonding." The relationship between a tiger and a forest officer is not what would be called ideal material for a film. But that's exactly what Anubhav Sinha has decided to film. "It's not as if I'm trying to be eco-friendly or making a film that would get me the approval of the green revolutionaries. It's an idea I've been fascinated with, for a long time. And I'm not making a film like Haathi Mere Saathi or Jaanwar Aur Insaan. Kajri will explore the whole complex relationship between Man and Nature. But to understand the relationship I need to get into the minds of people who have explored the life in the jungle first-hand." This where Sansar Chand comes in. "My film will have a character based on him. But I first need to meet him. I've been trying to do so for some time now. But so far in vain," signs off Anubhav.

"I embarrassed Shahid" - Vidya Balan

Click above for more stills The term 'meteoric' and 'kismat' are often used to describe the career paths of film actors. It is usually inaccurate, ignoring a plethora of dodgy TV shows and unwatchable movies made while the subject gradually and painfully learns their craft. With Vidya Balan though, meteoric and kismat are absolutely on the nail. Within a mere three years of her feature debut Parineeta, she has now become one of the most sought-after actresses in Bollywood. More importantly perhaps, she is already one of the most compelling, convincing and adaptable actors around. In this exclusively long chat with Bollywood Hungama's Devansh Patel, Vidya recalls her past with Vidhu Vinod Chopra, her present with Aziz Mirza, her future with Shahid Kapur and of course, lots more about Kismat Konnection. Out of all the films, you've done so far, your funny role has never been portrayed in any films inspite of you being a part of few. Will Kismat Konnection change that? I see Kismat Konnection as a love story and not as a comedy. So for me, I think I still haven't got a chance to explore the funny side of me in the films I've done. But as a love story, I still think that it's different for me because it's a very light hearted film and not emotionally high on content. It's a very breezy, young and a vibrant love story and it's still different from what I've done so far. Kismat Konnection is a love story and not a comedy. You're just three years old in Bollywood and you've done - so far so good. Does it seem like thirty years? (Laughs) Definitely not. I still feel like a newcomer. I've got a good kismat of working with a lot of very experienced and well established people. But I am still wonder struck by a lot of things in the industry. So I still feel like a novice and I have a long way to go before I can feel that I've spent thirty years here. Your first three films were with Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Anything on the cards with him in the near future? I'd love to because my first three films, as you mentioned, were with Vinod Chopra Productions and that in sense is like a home ground for me. I know that whenever Mr. Chopra thinks that he has something suitable for me, he'll call me. But there is no expectation from either side that I have to be a part of his every project. I know that when there is something for me, I will get that call. Vinod Chopra Productions in that sense is like a home ground for me. We've seen your scary side and a scary dance by Monjulika in Bhool Bhulaiyaa. What surprise moves is in-store for us in Kismat Konnection? (Laughs) The first thing I told myself was that I have to forget that I am going to be dancing with Shahid Kapur because he is such a brilliant dancer. That took the pressure off me. You can't imagine matching steps with the likes of Shahid and Hrithik ever. But it was something new for me to do and I haven't danced like this before. I was actually enjoying myself. I'm hoping it's turned out well. We haven't seen Vidya Balan wearing too much of western outfits in films except Heyy Babyy. Is Vidya sexy or beautiful? Both. But as I recently quoted during my Filmfare July launch, sexiness lies in my eyes. The sexiest women have always had their sex appeal in the eyes. It does not matter what you're wearing or how much you are showing. Tell us something more about Kismat Konnection, which the audiences don't know. I don't know whether this is something that I've shared or not. But when I initially started with Kismat Konnection, it was a new unit for me like every film unit is. But normally what happens before you go abroad for a shoot, you generally do a short schedule in India and then you go off on a long schedule. But here we were directly thrown into Toronto for two month outdoor and I had no clue about how I was going to get along with the rest of the team. For me, it's very important that I get along well with everyone first. I love listening to music. I had my I-Pod plugged in, in-between shots because I wasn't sure how I would get along. And by second or third day, everyone had their I-Pods out and we started exchanging our I-Pods and sharing the music we were listening to. So music helped all of us bond on the sets. It was music that helped all the cast and crew to bond on the sets. So tell us your funny experience while taking the autograph of your favourite actor Shahid Kapur. (Laughs) You know Shahid is a slightly shy person. He is someone who keeps to himself a lot. He was sitting in one corner of the set. It was the first day of our shoot. We had a scene, which needed a certain familiarity between us. So we were just rehearsing it and I realized that in getting the scene right we first had to get a bit familiar with each other which would have eventually helped us in the long two month schedule. When I went to him and asked for his autograph, he was completely taken by surprise. I don't think anyone has done something like this to him before. He kept running away and saying that I was embarrassing him. Next, he went upto Aziz uncle. But I was relentless and I did not give up till he gave me his autograph. Trust me, I'm going to sell his autograph and make fortunes (laugh). Do you believe in Kismat or do you believe in hardwork? I believe that we are all given opportunities and we have to make the best out of them. But those opportunities are pre-destined. What we make of them then depends on us. Thus it's a combination of both. I believe that we are all given opportunities and we have to make the best out of them. But those opportunities are pre-destined So it's the combination of both which has brought you so far? Yes. To be at the right place at the right time was really pre-destined for me. I'm not playing a rank game here, but all the films you've done are with A-list stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, etc. Here, all of a sudden comes this vibrant and full of energy Shahid Kapur. Did you at all feel that you should back off because Shahid is a part of it? Primarily my decision to do or not to do a film depends on the story, my role, and the director. The only reason for me doing the film was Aziz Mirza because I always wanted to work with him. I believe in his kind of films. And besides that it had a Shahid Kapur who we've all known as a good actor. Every actor takes a certain amount of time to come into his own and Shahid is just doing that. Post Jab We Met, he has become quite a rock star from all that I've been hearing from everyone. I didn't think twice because it was Shahid Kapur. So if anything works out in the future with Shahid, I'd love to work with him again. 'Mauja hi Mauja' was one of the best numbers to come out in 2007. Now we've got 'Ai Pappi', a perfect hip-hop and happening number. 'Ai Pappi' is a very very cool song. It's a kind of song that you just groove to so easily which explains why it's on the top of the charts right now. Soon as we heard the song, all of us instantly loved it and believe it or not but I wasn't going to be a part of the song initially. In the song, Shahid actually talks about Kismat Konnection but when we heard the song, we realized that it was probably going to be such a popular song that they would be mad not to have a heroine in the song, which is why you will be seeing glimpses of me in the song. I was an addition to 'Ai Pappi'. After the choreographer heard it, he said that Vidya has to be a part of it. Thanks to Ahmed Khan that I am a part of it, even if it is a glimpse because everything counts. Doesn't it? Thanks to Ahmed Khan that I am a part of the song 'Ai Pappi', even if it is a glimpse because everything counts. In Bollywood, seven in every ten films are love stories. What makes Kismat Konnectionnot a clichéd one? I wouldn't say that Kismat Konnection is a different film. It's an honest Aziz Mirza film just like his previous films. Love stories will always be clichéd because they are about two people who are in love, there is a certain situation which they have to overcome to be together, etc. That's the structure of any love story and that of course is true of Kismat Konnection. What really makes any film different from another film is the treatment of the moments captured and Aziz Mirza's strength lies in these moments. He makes the real moments special. Even in our lives today we are so caught up with the bigger things that we often over look the small pleasures of life. That's the beauty of Kismat Konnection. We've also noticed that you are not one of those actors who go on a signing films left, right and centre. You are taking it easy. Is that a deliberate move? No, not really. I just have to connect with the work I am doing. So tomorrow, if I get four films, which I'm able to do, I'll go for it because as an actor I would want to work in as many films as I can. But it's just that I have to believe in the work I'm doing. If I am able to do that, I am happy to do even six films a year. I can't multi task though, so it has to be one after the other. And you know what...I am a greedy actor. All the films you've been a part of have won at least one award at major Bollywood award ceremonies. You've touched Kismat Konnection now. More awards to follow in 2009. Inshallah! If that has any bearing, I hope (laughs) it holds true with Kismat Konnection also. I believe that Kismat Konnection will bring with it its own kismat. I hope people like the film and beyond that, awards are just the perfect icing on the cake. Shahid and I share a great onscreen rapport but beyond that we just get along really well with each other and that is about it. We saw the first ever-blue ray disc of your film Heyy Babyy which came out a few months ago. Did you give any suggestions to Aziz Mirza to come out with one for his film as well? I think, releasing Kismat Konnection on a DVD is a far better idea than a blue ray disc because firstly it is very expensive to afford a blue ray and you need to have a HD TV with a blue ray player. Now a days, DVD's are far more accessible and everybody can afford them. So releasing the film on a DVD at this point of time is more economical. Some sections of the media say that you are sharing a special relationship with Shahid. Is this the real connection or the rumored connection? I think people are really using their imaginations in a wild way. But now I'm quite used to it. We share a great onscreen rapport but beyond that we just get along really well with each other and that is about it. If people want to read what they want to, they can. I'm here to build a career and not some relationship. Does that mean you'll let the people and the media know once you come out in the open with your relationship someday with someone? I'm not the kind of person who will scream from the roof tops. But I'm not someone who will keep a relationship obscure either because I think it is very important for one to be able to acknowledge the other person. I'm not the kind of person to hide any relationship. I don't feel the need to. If I were with someone, I would be celebrating it. Vidya means education. Anything the viewers will get educated by from the film. Primarily Kismat Konnection goes beyond a love story. It has an inherent message without being preachy; that in life, the best always comes to you and you are not always able to see that, which is why we keep saying - 'It's destiny'. Whether it's work or personal relationships, when certain things don't work out, it is sometimes for the best and maybe something better is in store for you. Only time can prove that. That's the small message that KK carries. The best always comes to you and you are not always able to see that, which is why we keep saying - 'It's destiny' Any message for your fans in London? London is a very special city for all us actors in Bollywood because the kind of warmth and love you receive from audiences in London is incomparable to any of the other NRI audiences. Please go and watch Kismat Konnection, as it will put a smile on your face. We heard that you guys are planning to do a premiere here in London? We were hoping to come to London during the time of release but for some reason it hasn't worked out. I'd love to come there but India has now become a huge market for promotions with reality shows, music shows, talent shows, etc. So commitments here will be our first priority.

Subhash K Jha speaks about Mehbooba

Manisha Koirala is the one reason why one would want to brave this prolonged homage to the cinema of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This one is a 3-hour long rag-carpet welcome to Sanjay Leela Bhansali Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. The plot, ambience, characters, music, and even the interactive interludes between the main protagonists are all derived with lip smacking relish from Bhansali's film. Why, Mehbooba (no relation to Shakti Samanta's Mehbooba in 1977) even goes to Budapest where Bhansali shot the second-half of Hum…Except, that Mehbooba goes to Budapest in the first-half and to the bustling screechy noisy food-laden haveli from the first-half of Bhansali's Hum… in the second-half. Ho Hum… The melodies (if one may call them that) flit in and out like unwanted guests after every ten minutes of dialogue. If the songs were sacrificed on the editing table, maybe-just maybe-Mehbooba would be more bearable in its old-world love triangle ambience of two brothers (one idealistic and lovelorn, the other unscrupulous and ever-libidinous) who fall for the same girl. The meat of the métier goes to the majestic Manisha…Still resplendent and lovely no matter where and in what they put her, Manisha never fails to infuse a poetic aura to her character. Fetchingly photographed by that wonder-lensman Ashok Mehta at times Manisha looks as incandescent as she did in Bhansali's Khamoshi: The Musical. Alas, like this long-delayed film, Manisha too has gone through innumerable ups and downs in her career. The inconsistencies in the narration are covered up with a lot of exterior gloss. To the director Afzal Khan's credit, the film's scattered pastiche is woven into what can pretty much be described as a seamless 'yawn' about two men and a woman who should know better. The sets and locations are opulent flamboyant and eye-catching. No subtlety is applied in the visuals or emotions. The song-and-dance numbers that come along with alarming rapidity are shot with an eye for unhampered opulence. So who gets the girl at the end? That's a question which must remain in the audiences' mind in any love triangle. Beyond a point, we stop caring completely about these three compulsively conflicted characters, even though one of them is played by a star who brings in an element of the tragic and classic grandeur from an era gone-by. And one isn't referring to either of the two male leads. Devgan and Dutt behave like Devgan and Salman Khan from Bhansali's Hum Dil… discussing the same woman with each other ad nauseam as though she were two different entities. A case of a split personality? By the time the triangle is resolved (with one of heroes coming to a suitably stickly nemesis) the only 'split' personality is the audience. Most of them have fled the dread of watching a film that goes back the oldest traditions of Hindi cinema and emerges with a product that substitutes genuine emotions with elaborate props borrowed from a master storyteller's creative godown.

"In Ugly Aur Pagli, Ranvir is a complete loser" - Sachin Khot

If the slogan '99 Slaps and 1 Kiss' is not good enough a reason to hold anybody's attention for the forthcoming 'Rom-Com' film Ugli Aur Pagli, then here's more. The film has Mallika Sherawat pairing opposite the multi-talented Ranvir Shorey. And the one name that has to be applauded with golden hands is that of Sachin Khot, the man who after conquering the tellyland (testimonials include the record breaking 'Shanti' followed by many others), is all set to create the same magic in Bollywood too. With this super-exciting film, Sachin joins the gang of TV Directors turned Bollywood Directors. Bollywood Hungama caught up with this debutante director, to know what exactly happened during the making of Ugly Aur Pagli. Read on to find out … How did the subject of Ugly Aur Pagli come up? The concept is an age old syndrome of 'opposites attract'; we just took a realistic take on the same. Today's 21st century girl is more aggressive and dominating in a relationship. In most of the love stories, we see males leading the relationship with lots of mushiness, but in this, I have tried some thing that's really different and interesting. In this story, the girl dominates the relationship and we have removed the mushiness out of the love story. Today's 21st century girl is more aggressive and dominating in a relationship You have directed television serials before. How was the transition from directing TV serials to directing a film? Yes, I have directed a few TV serials in the past and it is a huge transition for me from TV to films. I directed a TV serial called 'Shanti' starring Mandira Bedi during its third running year. Besides that, I have also shot several other serials. During the nascent stage, when I was working on serials, it was more about story telling but now it has become more gimmicky. So this transition was great and important for me at the same time. How was it working with Ranvir, Mallika and others? Ranvir and Mallika are simply mind blowing. They are very professional and natural actors. As this is a female dominated love story with a dash of aggressiveness to it, Ranvir was supposed to get slapped by Mallika almost 99 times throughout the film. I think no actor in this film industry would have done this role, which Ranvir did. On the sets, Ranvir and Mallika used to sit down and devise different techniques of slapping. I was stunned to see Ranvir sitting with Mallika and teaching her how to slap. It was really funny to hear their conversation when Ranvir told her methods in which a slap would look real etc. They both helped each other really well and their improvisations only helped the scenes get even better. Apart from them we have some interesting cameos done by great actors. Ranvir and Mallika used to sit down and devise different techniques of slapping We have seen promos with a lot of cameos. Well, Zeenat Amanji does the biggest cameo in the film, and I am really excited about that. I won't divulge much detail on this one but apart from her, there is a small but interesting cameo done by VJ Gaurav, VJ Vishal Malhotra and Manish Anand who play Ranvir's friends in the film. They all have small but very well etched roles introduced at crucial times. PNC's previous film Pyaar Ke Side Effects was a huge success, then how come you selected Ranvir Shorey and not Rahul Bose since the female lead remains the same? How did you think of this unusual pair? Well, if you really see, then even Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat were an unusual pair. It was Mr. Nandy's idea to get Ranvir; he was quite keen on casting him and moreover he just suited the bill. I don't think I could have thought of any actor who could play the lovable loser. And of course, this opposite pole chemistry always works. Does the film start from where PKSE ended, since the story line is quite similar and the producers are also the same. Was this a conscious effort or just a mere co-incidence? No, there is no similarity between PKSE and Ugly Aur Pagli, there were no conscious efforts that were taken while penning down the story. The only similarity one will find between the two stories is of course Mallika and the fact that two drastically different people fall in love. In fact, in Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Rahul Bose was an achiever, he had his own job, led his own life, but in Ugly Aur Pagli, Ranvir is a complete loser. Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Rahul Bose was an achiever, he had his own job, led his own life, but in Ugly Aur Pagli, Ranvir is a complete loser Were you involved in the styling of the cast because the styling is quite different from what we have seen Mallika and Ranvir in their previous films? Yes. The styling has become a huge point of attraction in the film. Everyone liked the look of it. I was involved in the styling of the cast; we had different styles in our mind which I worked upon but the actual credit goes to Rangita Nandy, the Producer of the film. Our idea was to basically give them a very casual look. We discussed the look with the ace designer Ashley Rebello and designed this wonderful look. How was the atmosphere on the sets? Any memorable incidents that you would like to share? The atmosphere on the sets was very friendly. But for me, it was a bit different. I was always a bit nervous and anxious on the sets since it was my first film. Due to the nervousness, I used to keep knocking myself into something or the other on the sets. My entire cast pulled my leg (especially Ranvir), but at the end of the day, it was absolute fun. Mallika is known to be a bit reserved, so how was she on the sets with everyone? I don't know why people have tagged her as a very reserved person. I think she was great on the sets, she gelled very well with everyone and above all, she is a thorough professional. What kind of rapport did Mallika and Ranvir share with each other since their chemistry looks great in the promos? I think they shared a brilliant connection, they were too natural and trust me, the rapport and the chemistry which you see between the two on screen is exactly how they were on the sets also! I remember while we were shooting, there was this scene where Ranvir was suppose to carry Mallika and walk across the road, while shooting for this scene, Mallika purposely would distract him and do something or the other so that we would re-shoot and so that Ranvir had to carry her all the way again. It was really funny; we all pulled his leg and backed Mallika on this one. As a director, the chemistry between any two actors look good only when they understand each other and help each other in the scenes… and that was exactly the case here.

Sanjay Dutt and Anil Kapoor shoot an item song for Shortkut

Remember the infamous rivalry between Sanjay Dutt and Anil Kapoor? Apparently, many aeons ago Kapoor had made some uncharitable remarks about Dutt's family, though now Kapoor completely denies. Stings of the past completely forgotten, Sanjay Dutt who according to his company's CEO Dharam Oberoi is booked to act until 2009, is adamant on mending all his bridges and washing away all the bitterness of the past. Putting aside whatever differences that might have existed between the two, Sanjay Dutt this week took time off to do an item song for Anil Kapoor's production Shortkut which is nearly complete. The song also featuring Anil Kapoor (making a guest appearance in his own film) and Amrita Rao was shot at breakneck speed by choreographer Bosco-Caesar. "Sanjay Dutt rushed back to Mumbai for two days from the Bahamas only to shoot the song for Anil's film. But the song couldn't be completed in time. He was to leave for South Africa to shoot for another film on Wednesday night. But he postponed his trip to South Africa by a day to complete Anil's song," informs the CEO of Sanjay Dutt Productions, Dharam Oberoi. What's more, Dutt refused to charge a penny for the item number, although the Kapoors insisted on paying. "Finally, Anil's wife Sunita Kapoor found a way out. Being a jewellery designer she presented Sanjay Dutt's wife with a diamond necklace, ear-rings and bangles from the Sunita Kapoor Collection," informs Dharam Oberoi. The Dutt-Kapoor-Rao item number was wrapped up on Thursday. And Dutt flew off for a long schedule in South Africa a day late.
