SRK does voiceover for Aziz Mirza's Kismat Konnection

Shah Rukh Khan is one man who always stands by people close to him. Director Aziz Mirza is one such person, who happens to be SRK's mentor and one of the prime driving forces who can be attributed for kick-starting SRK's high-flying career! Mirza wanted SRK to do the voiceover for Kismat Konnection and well, just one phone call is all it took. No sooner that King Khan landed from London, he rushed his way through to meet Mirza on Monday night at 1.30am. He went to the dubbing studio and finished recording. Even Aziz Mirza was stunned looking at the actor's energy level. Now, one definitely needs some 'Kismat Konnection' to make SRK do something like this for him.

Shamir Tandon gets Govinda to sing for Loot

After making stars like Sanjay Dutt, Urmila Matondkar and even Australian cricketer Brett Lee sing to his tunes, music director Shamir Tandon has now gone ahead and recorded a song with none other than Govinda for Popcorn Entertainment Ltd.'s forthcoming film Loot. The song is called 'Heeng Lage Na Fitkari Rang Chokhkha Hoy'. Shamir, who has composed music for films such as Page 3, Corporate and Traffic Signal in the past is apparently very impressed with Chi Chi's music talent and his interest in melody and lyrics. What's more, Shamir is very hopeful about the song which is in fact dedicated to the Almighty. Both Govinda and Shamir are pretty confident that this song will have a mass appeal as its lyrics include the famous saying-'Jakhon raakhe saaiyaan maar saake na koi'. The video of the song is going to be shot very soon. Hope this number proves to be yet another chartbuster like some of Govinda's attempts at singing.

A much thinner Paresh Rawal in Shivam Nair's Maharathi

Out of the many production houses which has made their foray into Bollywood in the last few years, a prominent name is that of Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. The film company, which has delivered some big hits like Bhagam Bhag, Golmaal, Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya and Jab We Met, is all set to continue their blitzkrieg in Bollywood in the coming year. While Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision has many big films lined up, their immediate next release is the suspense thriller Maharathi starring Paresh Rawal, Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Boman Irani, Tara Sharma and Neha Dhupia in lead roles. The film is based on Paresh Rawal's popular Gujarati play and is directed by Shivam Nair (who earlier directed Ahista Ahista). By the looks of it, Paresh bhai seems to have lost lot of weight. Whether the reason for the weight loss was the requirement of the character or some other reason, only time will tell!!! For the time being, one hopes Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. continues its victory run with Maharathi. The film is slated to release on August 22.

A.R. Rahman to compose music for the multi-starrer Blue

Music maestro A.R.Rahman has given some really diverse music this year. While he started the year with Ashutosh Gowariker's period film Jodhaa Akbar, he surprised everyone with the young and peppy tunes which he composed for Aamir Khan Productions' Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na. If you think that's all you get to hear of Rahman this year, then you are wrong. While his music for Subhash Ghai's magnum opus Yuvraaj is being awaited with bated breath, he is also composing the music for Aamir Khan's Ghajini. And for all you die-hard Rahman fans, there is some more good news. The music maestro has also been roped in by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. to compose the music for their multi-starrer Blue. Blue has been in the news recently as major portions of the film featuring actors like Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta, Zayed Khan and Katrina Kaif were shot in the exotic locations of Bahamas. With Rahman coming into the picture this adventure ride only gets bigger and better.

"I get pocket money every month; but my earnings go in savings" - Hansika

For any seventeen year old, to star as a leading actress in a Hindi film can only be a distant dream today. But for Hansika, it was never going to be difficult. After seeing her on television and in few films as a child artist a few years ago, now, Hansika is barely recognizable. In the past few years, however, she seems to have turned things around, making better personal and professional choices, if getting a bit of weight to put on. Ever since her childhood days, Hansika has lived her whole life in the limelight, be it television or cinema. And now as she sets her sights on some serious acting, and not so serious in Money Hai Toh Honey Hai, Bollywood Hungama's Devansh Patel finds out how this lazy child turned out to be so proactive, sheer professional and not to be messed around with in this exclusive and an interesting chat. Now that you've grown up from a small cute little girl of small screen to a leading lady of Bollywood films, how would you describe your journey so far? I'd describe my journey in a very positive way and a lucky manner. As a child artist, I was very lucky that I got to do big small screen serials. But there is always time to move ahead especially when you grow up. I was in the 9th standard when I left television because my 10th board exams needed me to study very hard. In that process, I grew up and while I was in my 11th standard, I got to do my first film with Himesh Reshammiya, Aap Kaa Surroor. So the journey for me has just begun. Wait and watch, there's a long way to go. You will see me at my best in Money Hai Toh Honey Hai Aap Ka Suroor was a very serious film but your second big release Money Hai Toh Honey Hai seems to be a complete transition from a serious role to a funny one. Do you associate at all with the character you're portraying in this film? Of course yes. This is the closest character I can come to with to my real life because I play a role of Ashima Kapoor who is the best and the top most actress of small screen and how she wants to become even bigger in the world of Bollywood. She finally gets the big break but only gets roles of saas and bahu types because of her small screen success. It's really funny. You will see me at my best in Money Hai Toh Honey Hai. Why leave the small screen when you could have grown bigger and better in television? It was never about growing bigger or better. It was about making the right decisions. My mom had already told me to concentrate more on my studies and complete my 10th boards and then again think of pursuing my career. It makes a lot of difference if you are educated. I have no regrets quitting small screen because I cherish every bit of my time I had dedicated to the television for three whole years. Manoj Bajpai's mouth was wide open and he was zapped when he met me You played a small girl in the film Jaago which also starred Manoj Bajpai. What was his reaction when he saw you all grown up to become a lead actress opposite Govinda? His mouth was wide open and he was zapped. He said, "Is it you Hansika?". And I said, "Yea Manoj sir, it's the same me." Manoj sir is a brilliant actor and has matured over the years and so have I. But he treated me in the same way and manner as he treats his other co-actors and gave me the same space as others. I was really touched by his gestures. He is simply great and not many know that he can do excellent comedy. Chi Chi sir is not like a father figure who gives advices, he is equal to each and everybody Now let's talk about Govinda. What was it like to work with Indian Film Industry's one of the finest and the best dancers and comic talents? He is a gem of a person and a complete gentleman. I am very fortunate to have got my second film with such an experienced and a good co-artist. He has actually helped me a lot to grow as an actor too. Chi Chi sir is not like a father figure who gives advices as to this is how you should work and act. He is equal to each and everybody. Whether it's Upen Patel, Celina, Aftab or Manoj sir. He will come up to you and motivate you to do better and will say, "You could have done it better." Such is his persona. Download Money Hain Toh... wallpapers Was there a moment that you forgot your lines opposite the highly experienced Govinda? I am not bad at forgetting lines (laughs). Actually, if anyone of us would make a mistake or crack a joke or give an expression, we all would just burst out laughing out loud and then tears would come out of our eyes. Infact, we would do the same if there was no reason what so ever. Strange isn't it? What about Ganesh Acharya, who shares the same story as you do. His first film too was a serious affair called Swami? I know Ganesh sir since childhood. My first film's song, 'Tera Mera Milna' was choreographed by Ganesh sir. He is a beautiful person. When I saw Swami which was directed by him, I knew that this is not Ganesh sir. But when I heard his second film which he narrated to me in Germany while shooting Aap Kaa Surroor, I knew from the word go that he had made my character by keeping me in mind. Not to forget, both our families are really close to each other. Money Hai to Honey Hai brings out his true personality. What makes Money Hai Toh Honey Hai different from hundreds of such comic films made in the past? For me, this is a film which is special and close to my heart because I play someone who I am in real life. Also, it is my second film. For the first time people are going to see my actual talent from a serious one. I've shed weight, my hair, make up, everything has changed to the core. But what's important is that comedy as a subject will never get old, and that's what makes this film differently same. If I wouldn't have been in acting, I'd probably be studying and bunking at the same time. I'd just be sitting out at Costa or Barista doing nothing Have your close friends, family members or teachers ever expressed their grief on you joining the world of glitz and glamour at a tender age of just 17? I don't think anyone you've mentioned will come up to me and say that. They have been all so supportive towards me and my decision and have said that it's good that I have been an inspiration to many to take up acting or any profession they want before they are in their 20's. If I wouldn't have been in acting, I'd probably be studying and bunking at the same time. I'd just be sitting out at Costa or Barista doing nothing. My best friend has always supported me and she said that I have inspired her to go to New York and study. She gives me credit but I know it's not me, it's just because of her. How does it feel to be the youngest female lead actor in the Indian Film Industry? Superb. It's the best feeling for anyone who is my age and have reached so far. That does not put me in a situation where I start thinking that I don't have to be in public. I still go to Costa coffee but very rarely. I go for shopping just like any other person does. I am very fortunate to get all this when I'm only 17 years old. You mentioned shopping. Where do you like to shop from? And are you a brand person? I am like all the other girls around me who like the colours green, blue, red, yellow, brown, whichever colour. I love nail polishes and have loads and loads of shoes. In Germany, while shooting, I purchased quite a few shoes because I love walking a lot. As for clothes, I am a bit brand conscious but if I see something in a normal shop which excites me, I'd buy it without reading the label. When it comes to really expensive stuff, I get a little brandy. Where have you enjoyed shopping the most? My first expensive shopping began in Dubai. I love to shop there. Now, it's Austria, Singapore and Germany. Has it ever happened that success has made you over confident? Not at all. My parents and my brother will throw me down on the ground. I can never ever get over confident. My friends and family are very open to me. They are not biased. They will tell me if I look bad in some scenes or haven't performed well in the film. They know my weak points and good ones. So if stardom comes to me head, my mother, who is my biggest critic, will say enough is enough. It's time to quit this profession. If stardom comes to me head, my mother, who is my biggest critic, will ask me to quit this profession Which is your all time favourite film? Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Whenever it comes on television, I make sure not to miss it. Have you recommended some of your co-actors from television with whom you've worked as a child artist to join in films? It would feel miserable to do such a thing. How can a 17 year old recommend a 40 year old guy who is vastly experienced? Somewhere, a bit of sourness comes in the person who would think - A teenage girl with a few years of experience is recommending me? No way! I am not here to recommend anyone. I am here to entertain the people and I would definitely not be the right person to start recommending others who are far more superior than me. Do you think the title of your film, Money Hain Toh Honey Hain, stands true in today's time? (Laughs) I am too small to answer this question. I don't even carry money with me. I mean, I get pocket money every month but whatever I earn goes in the savings. So when I am 18 next year, I can remove as much money I want. I get pocket money every month but whatever I earn goes in the savings As a teenager, what have you learnt from observing a star like Govinda on and off the sets? The patience he has in him. He is not like one of those actors who think only their work should get appreciated by the people. He will give out ideas to the director and if they are rejected, he wouldn't mind. But he definitely gives his experienced inputs. Having said that, he is also open to suggestions. Not to forget, he is a cute and a sweet man. What about your co-stars like Upen Patel, Celina and Aftab? They are all dignified actors who are true professionals. That's a very short answer. Yes, because I don't want to give out the same monotonous answers like I loved working with them, they were so friendly, we all used to sit together and chat after the shot was over, etc, etc. You will get your long answer after you see the film. I can't afford to wake up late, have to go to the gym everyday, sleepless nights and eating calorie conscious food. Now that you're getting established on the big screen, do you sometimes get bossy? Not at all. Yes, I used to when I was a kid. In fact, I was a lazy bum who couldn't even get a glass of water for myself. I used to wake up, go to school, come home, eat and then study and go to sleep. That was my lazy life. Now, it's taken a complete turn. I can't afford to wake up late, have to go to the gym everyday and work out for two hours, no matter what time I come back from work. Sleepless nights and eating calorie conscious food. But now it's so much challenging. Why go and watch Money Hain Toh Honey Hain? Because it's my second film. Because Kumar Mangat ji and Master ji (Ganesh Acharya) have put in a lot of effort to make a good comedy film. The script who is the actual hero of the film and of course, for all of us, me, Chi Chi sir, Celina, Aftab, Upen and Manoj sir who has given his best shot at acting in a comic film. And last but not the least, take your money and honey and come in the theatres and enjoy the film.

Mid-year music analysis

Like it or not but 2008 hasn't been a great year for music coming from Bollywood so far. While there have hardly been any successes on the music stands, even critically one can only count a few albums on the fingertips. Nevertheless, one factor which has continued to impress is the hold which Pritam is enjoying amongst audience which is raving for some catchy-and-entertaining sound. Just like Himesh Reshammiya dominated the music scene in 2005 and 2006, Pritam has been doing so in 2007 and now 2008. No wonder, he finds as many as 3 of his albums in the Top-10 compilation! 1. Race This one comprised of back to back chartbusters, each of which made a great impression not just over the audio system but also on the screen. 'Race Sanson Ki', 'Pehli Nazar Mein', 'Touch Me', 'Dekho Nashe Mein' - each of them turned out to be big hits. Such was the power of the album that even when the makers decided to drop 'Mujhpe To Jadoo', the replacement number 'Sexy Lady' turned out to be the biggest hit of the album. Pritam tasted blood with Race and has been at the top ever since then. 2. Jannat Bhatts-Emraan Hashmi-Pritam got together yet again and fireworks were on full display all over again. Unlike Awarapan which took some time to grow amongst the audience, Jannat didn't have to wait so long and soon reached the top spot. Hugely responsible for enabling the film to turn into a Super Hit, songs like 'Zara Sa' and Kamran Ahmed composed, written and sung 'Lambi Judai' are continuing to play on till date. Super success of Jannat should lead to many more collaborations between the makers, actor and the composer. 3. Tashan Now this one has been plain unfortunate to not reach the kind of heights that it deserved. Ok, so the music did quite well actually but then if only Yash Raj Films would have made an exception and for a change decided to promote a product of their own, Tashan would have been a different story altogether. Coming after Om Shanti Om, Tashan was indeed a queer score by Vishal-Shekhar but this very factor was the soundtrack's strength. Who else in this whole wide world would have otherwise thought of making a Bhojpuri-English-Hindi number like 'Dil Dance Maare' and also made three mainstream actors dance in the midst of a desert? 4. Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na Success of the music of Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na is sweet for two reasons. a) It is nice to see Rahman composing more often for Hindi films. b) It is even nicer to see him work on projects that are poles apart from being historic/patriotic/period dramas. A song like 'Kabhi Kabhi Aditi' doesn't come every year while 'Pappu Can't Dance Saala' makes one strongly believe that only Rahman could have created a composition like this. Rahman, please continue to rock the show and give us more of the same breed! 5. Jodhaa Akbar Now this one grew and how! When the soundtrack arrived on the stands, it was panned by many. With the kind of huge expectations that one had from a film with names like Rahman, Gowarikar, Hrithik and Ash involved, one wanted the sound of Jodhaa Akbar to be huge - really huge! However, with an exception of 'Azeem O Shaan Shahenshah' that did boast of a majestic appeal, the remaining numbers were on a slower side and classy in nature. After an initial hesitation, the songs were given a Thumbs Up by the audience and once the film released, the music only continued to jump up in the charts! 6. Haal-e-Dil This one would lead the charge for being unsuccessful in penetrating deeper into audience's heart. Anand Raj Anand, Vishal Bhardwaj, Pritam and Raghav Sachar did well in creating some really nice melodious music. However, just when it seemed to be picking up amongst the audience, the film's massive failure negated the escalation that the album was showing at the stands. Music of a film starring newcomers takes its own sweet time to grow but since Haal-e-Dil has gone down with a loud thud, the music too has followed suit! 7. Kismat Konnection Pritam has scored a hat trick with Kismat Konnection after the super success of Race and Jannat. Also with Shahid Kapoor, Pritam has now delivered a back to back hit after Jab We Met. The title song has been a big hit already and should enable audience to step into theaters. However, through songs like 'Bakhuda Tumhi Ho' and 'Is This Love', Pritam has shown once again that his heart truly lies in creating soulful melodies. One looks forward to this album too becoming a success after the arrival of the film at theaters. 8. U Me Aur Hum Not many would have given a chance for this Vishal Bhardwaj album to actually do well at the stands. Somehow one didn't expect a film starring Ajay Devgan and Kajol in a romantic lead to carry great music (even though they did enjoy some very good music around a decade back in Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha). This is why once U Me Aur Hum hit the stands, music lovers were pleasantly surprised to hear some good melodies like the title song coupled with foot tapping dance numbers in the form of 'Dil Dhakda Hai', 'Jee Le' and 'Saiyaan'! 9. Love Story 2050 The biggest project for Anu Malik in the recent times, with Love Story 2050 he has taken the responsibility of creating a soundtrack for a high profile newcomer launch. Walking a thin line of creating a soundtrack which belongs to the current times as well as hints upon the kind of music which would be heard 40 years down the line, Malik doesn't disappoint. 'Milo Na Milo', 'Sach Kehna' and 'Mausam Achanak' are the pick of the lot. 10. Ugly Aur Pagli Anu Malik has seriously tried reinventing himself with Ugly Aur Pagli. No wonder he doesn't mind giving his audience the kind of music which has made Pritam and Vishal-Shekhar as household names. Well, we don't mind either since all said and done, Ugly Aur Pagli is Malik's first album in the recent times where he has actually moved ahead with the times and orchestrated his songs in a fashion that would soon find a place in clubs and discotheques. If in doubt, just listen to songs like 'Talli' and 'Karle Gunaah'. And for some sheer melody, there is always a 'Yaad Teri Aaye'. Other notable mentions: Khuda Kay Liye boasted of an excellent soundtrack in entirety but couldn't be included in the Top-10 since technically it originates from Pakistan and isn't really a Bollywood soundtrack. Some of the other songs that seemed impressive in this year were 'Phas Gaya' - Aamir, 'Hawa Sun Hawa' - Ada, 'Mann Tu Telebet' - Superstar, 'Title song' - One Two Three, 'Dhokha' - Woodstock Villa, 'Title song' - Dhoom Dadakka, 'Title song' - De Taali and 'Kyun Hai Mujhe Lagta' - Khushboo.

Mazhar Kamran's Mohandas goes to the Osian Film Festival

Debutant director Mazhar Kamran is quite surprised that his film Mohandas has been chosen in the competition section of the Osian film festival. "There're only two Hindi films in the competitive section. I didn't know how it got selected. I did enter my film. But that's it. Interestingly, I'm a debutant director but my film is in the main section. I like that. I also like the fact that Asian cinema is being celebrated at the Osian film festival." Mazhar Kamran, like a lot of technicians who work with Ram Gopal Varma, did a couple of films at 'The Factory' as a cinematographer and then moved on. "But I never planned on becoming a cinematographer. I always wanted to be a director. I always loved cinema. Now I feel being a cinematographer has helped me give my first directorial effort the right look and mood. Being a DOP, I could think on my feet. I didn't need a mediator to translate my vision." "Mohandas couldn't have been made with Shah Rukh Khan," says the Satya cinematographer Mazhar Kamran, about his debut film that has been selected in the competition section of the Osian film festival which opens in Delhi on July 17. "Some films require an absolutely ordinary man-from-the-crowds face. That's why we have selected Nakul Vaid. He blends into the milieu. Certain subjects should not have a star. In fact a star would've harmed Mohandas. A filmmaker has to be honest to his subject." Mazhar had a tough time finding a producer. Based on a short story called Mohandas by Uday Prakash, Mazhar says he called his film after the Mahatma of the nation because of what the Mahatma once said. "Whenever you take a step think of the repercussion it would have on the common man. Also, Gandhiji always said the heart of India lies in the villages. I've shot Mohandas in a remote village of Madhya Pradesh." Though Mazhar has made an offbeat film he doesn't disregard the Bollywood formula. "I've songs in Mohandas, though only in the background. Our cinema has such a strong tradition of music and dance." Mazhar is hoping to release the film by October. "I hope the screening in Osian on the 17th will get it noticed."

Box office analysis

The unthinkable has happened. Till about a year back, there was no news around the progress of JAANE TU YA JAANE NAA which had begun close to two years back. The film was stuck and while Aamir Khan got busy with his TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, the Imran Khan starrer was put on a backburner.

Debutante director Rajkumar Gupta's film Aamir has been appreciated by one and all. In this day and age when many big films have failed to create any magic at the B.O, the success of Aamir has surely taken everyone by surprise. Honorable Chief Minister of Delhi Ms. Sheila Dikshit had the opportunity to see Aamir last week and she came out mighty impressed. In fact Rajeev, who was in the capital along with his director Rajkumar Gupta for the launch of the DVD of Aamir got a chance to spend some time with the CM herself. Bollywood Hungama spoke to director Rajkumar Gupta who seemed all excited sharing his experience with us. "I am really overwhelmed that Honorable Chief Minister of Delhi, Ms. Sheila Dikshit loved my film. She saw the film last week and we got an opportunity to meet her last Sunday when we were in Delhi for the DVD launch. She said that she has never seen Bombay shot so beautifully and even discussed the intricate details of some scenes with us. She even remembered some dialogues from the film," says the debutante director. After the kind of overwhelming response that Aamir has got, what's next on Rajkumar's agenda? "I am working on my second film which is also with UTV Spotboy. We are discussing a couple of ideas but I have still to start writing it," signs off Rajkumar Gupta.

The Complan Boy and the Complan Girl

Small kids have always been a favorite with advertisers since time immemorial. After all, your heart immediately melts when you see a small child talking about his / her favorite product. Two such kids (one a small good-looking boy and the other a cute little girl) were seen many years ago in one of the most popular commercials for a popular health and energy drink - Complan. While the boy proudly exclaimed “I am a Complan Boy” even the girl was not one to be left behind and said “I am a Complan girl”. The ad is still etched in our memories but what's interesting is that today that very good-looking boy and cute girl are among the teen heartthrobs of the nation. Yes we are indeed talking about the super cool Shahid Kapoor and the glamorous Ayesha Takia. Years after they did the Complan commercial together, Shahid and Ayesha have managed to make a mark for themselves in the big, bad world of Bollywood. What's more, the duo was even romantically paired opposite each other in films like Dil Maange More and Fool-N-Final. They would also be seen in Ahmed Khan's forthcoming film Paathshala. And just in case you are wondering what happened to the Complan, well one look at Shahid and Ayesha's respective debut films (Ishq Vishk and Socha Na Tha) and you'll surely agree that it was only Ayesha on whom the Complan actually worked.
