Warner Bros. Pictures to make their first Indian animation film

In the last few years, the Indian animation industry has seen some big names make their presence felt. Warner Bros. Pictures is the latest entrant in the animation space, with an untitled film, which is to be directed by Jyotin Goel and produced by Goel Screencraft in India. Warner Bros. Pictures is one of the most successful motion picture studios in the world and has been entertaining global audiences for over 85 years with high-quality, innovative, acclaimed motion pictures. Speaking on this occasion, Blaise Fernandes, Country Manager, Warner Bros. Pictures India says, "We are delighted to associate with Jyotin on this film. It marks our entry into the animation genre in India." Jyotin Goel has directed films such as Zahreelay and Inam Dus Hazar besides the popular sci-fi T.V. show 'Antariksh'. He is also associated with two filmmaking firms Goel Screencraft (as a proprietor) and Goel Cine Corporation (as a partner). Speaking about his latest venture- the animation film, Jyotin Goel says, "This is a story of love and adventure, full of color, music, drama and comedy. The film is not based on the humans but portrays the melodious world of birds and attempts to explore their lives from an unusual standpoint. It is a journey into the lives of birds as they soar over dense jungles and teeming cities, giving them a point of view of the world that is hilariously different from ours." The post production of this animated film will be handled by Interactive Realities International Private Limited (IRIPL).

Harry Baweja speaks on 'sabotage' angle and other accusations

Love Story 2050 is certainly not giving up at the box office. It is indeed trying well to stay afloat at the box office and Harry Baweja insists that he would give the film at least 2 weeks before arriving at any conclusion. In a freewheeling chat with Joginder Tuteja, he talks about the unexpected media backlash that Love Story 2050 got and how a 'wrong perception' was created about the film. He also reacts to the so-called 'sabotage attempt' statements made by him and ultimately feels elated about the fact that his son Harman Baweja has been widely accepted by one and all! Over to Harry: Et Tu Media? I really can't come to terms with the way media has gone ahead and criticized the film. Of course, one has to respect the opinion of critics out there but in case of Love Story 2050, it is simply unbelievable to see the way they have reacted. 'Unkind' is the best word to describe the way some of them have gone ahead and reviewed the film. This is wrong criticism because neither have they looked at the film subjectively nor objectively. They have just written about the film with a simple motive to run it down. 'Unkind' is the best word to describe the way some critics have gone ahead and reviewed the film Was it 'really' sabotage? Let me make this very clear through this conversation - 'I never ever said that sabotage attempts were made against Love Story 2050. It has been printed completely out of context and let me say this again that I have never made a statement like this and would never ever do that. Yes, what I can certainly see is that there has been a definite attempt to create a 'perception' about a film. The moment first few shows of the film were through, so many went ahead and started talking negative about the film. Some even did that without even seeing the film. It is fishy, otherwise why would people contribute to creating a negative perception? What happens next? The film has stabilized though I would have loved had it been the case a couple of days earlier. We started reacting to the backlash after the weekend was almost through. Anyways, the collections have been decent so far. The film has grossed close to 12 crores across the globe in 3 days itself. Any classification for a film makes sense after it has enjoyed a two-week run. People who went with zero expectations from the film are coming out and saying, 'Hello, what's the backlash all about? It is a decent watch after all'. My point is, let Love Story 2050 enter into the third week and we would all see for our self the way it has performed. The collections have been decent so far. The film has grossed close to 12 crores across the globe in 3 days itself. Any regrets? The biggest regret is that so many people out there who are commenting on VFX etc. are hardly cued into what really goes into creating it and what it actually stands for. How can you criticize something if you have zilch clue about the technicalities behind it. The people who have worked on the VFX of the film are Academy Award winners and the best in the business. Still, somehow the point has been missed completely. What I thought to be the USP of the film (futuristic/sci-fi genre) seems to be the bone of contention of so many out there! What could be the reason? I think I was way ahead of the current times. Still, what gives me satisfaction is the fact that 5/10/15 years down the line, Love Story 2050 would be looked as a reference point when it comes to special effects in films. Critics would be forced to do the comparison and admit that whatever be the case, the special effects in my film have been unparalleled. Love Story 2050 would be looked as a reference point when it comes to special effects in films. Ek conventional love story? People now ask me whether a conventional love story would have been an ideal launch pad for Harman. Well, my answer to them is, if only Love Story 2050 would have worked, you would have been calling me a genius (laughs), you would have complimented me to have taken a risk, thought of a really unique launch pad for my son and succeeded in a big way. All these ifs and buts can surface but the fact remains that the film has been completed, released and it is now time to move on. Honey, how about Money? Well, the film cost us close to 40 crores including print and publicity cost. DVDs, music and satellite rights have already got us back a big chunk of the moolah. Add to it the theatrical revenue so far and we are on good course towards recovering the investment. No one is worried or panicky about the situation. Moreover, as I said earlier, another positive sign is to see the film continuing to be on stable grounds. We are keeping our fingers crossed. Aur Harman? This is the most positive aspect about Love Story 2050. Harman has been accepted all over and the reactions have been great all over. He already has 4-5 big films in hand with no ordinary directors at the helm of affair. After seeing him in the debut film, congratulatory calls haven't stopped flowing from people both within and outside the industry. And it is not just Delhi or Mumbai or Chandigarh or Hyderabad that we are talking about! Even in overseas market, Harman has picked a fan following amongst UK and US audiences. Harman already has 4-5 big films in hand with no ordinary directors at the helm of affair. I had made Love Story 2050 with a two point agenda - a) Make a film that thoroughly entertains the audience and b) Launch my son. While there are clear signs that the latter has certainly worked in a big way, perception is changing soon about the former too!

Shaimak's gesture leaves Subhash Ghai speechless

Subhash Ghai is busy completing his magnum-opus Yuvraaj starring Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, Zayed Khan and Katrina Kaif in lead roles. Recently, the director shot a song along with ace choreographer Shiamak Davar and his team of dancers. However, Shiamak refused to charge a single penny for the song which really moved the Showman of Bollywood. Bollywood Hungama got in touch with Subhash Ghai himself to get the facts straight, "Yes, it's true that Shiamak refused to accept the payment for the song which he choreographed for my film Yuvraaj. When my production people went to give him the cheque he told them 'I have great respect for Mr. Ghai. I can't charge any money from him. As long as the dancers and technicians are being paid, it's more than enough'. What's more even my production manager told me about this only after the shooting finished. Apparently, Shiamak had strictly informed him not to tell me regarding the same. The next morning when I called Shiamak, he said 'Mr Ghai lets not discuss about this'. It's a great gesture on Shiamak's part which really moved me. We know each other since the time we did Taal together. His students and staff have a great deal of love and respect for me", says the veteran filmmaker So is Shiamak choreographing just this one song or is he doing all the songs of Yuvraaj? "No, he is just doing this song since he will be busy with Bachchans' Unforgettable Tour. Ahmed Khan will be doing the other songs." Considering that A R Rahman is giving the music for this flick, what kind of music can we expect from the maestro? "The music of Yuvraaj has an international feel. It blends both Western music with Indian classical music and folk music. It has some peppy numbers and some excellent melodies. It has a larger than life feel to it. Rahman has done his best", signs off Mr. Ghai.

Shoaib Mansoor tickled by rumours of his second film

So consumed are his friends from Bollywood by the idea of him directing another film after Khuda Kay Liye that they've already decided to give over an entire project with cast and all to Shoaib Mansoor. But Shoaib is no hurry to make his next film. "I'm really amused to hear that I've already decided which film to make next. In fact I've a couple of ideas that I'm developing," says the softspoken Khuda Kay Liye director speaking from Pakistan. Tell him that Percept Pictures is quoted as saying Shaan, the Pakistan matinee idol who played the lead in Khuda Kay Liye, has already been cast in his next, and Shoaib replies, "When I haven't even decided what I'll make next how can I firm in on the cast? It's unlikely that Shaan will be part of my next project." The Pakistani superstar didn't quite give Shoaib an easy time making Khuda Kay Liye. Though Shaan agreed to change his image and do a starkly realistic role he seemed to lose interest halfway and did nothing to support the film's craggy progression after release. Laughs Shoaib, "The star system is no different in Pakistan or India. India has some great acting talent .And I'd love to work with all of them. But at this juncture it would be highly premature to mention names because I've no one in mind." It took Shoaib a good 25 years to make his first feature film. "Making a film in Pakistan is not easy. I've fought many battles, petty and epic, to make Khuda Kay Liye. And if it has done well in Pakistan and India then my struggle has been worth it. Now of course I'll make my next film out of Mumbai. I'm committed to Percept Pictures for my next. And I think I'll make it within a year. This time I can focus on writing and directing the film while my producers will take care of everything else. But it will take me a year to get the script in place." At the moment Shoaib is getting ready for a 3-week trip to Japan from July 20 where he's being honoured by the Japanese federation. "This year I've a lot of traveling to do. Khuda Kay Liye had a much longer shelf life than I had imagined. My next film will also have a very strong socio-political content. I don't think cinema is about making 150 girls and boys dance on top of a Swiss mountain. It's a very powerful medium. Let's not use it for frivolity."

"I wouldn't wish ill for anyone" - Aamir Khan

Here's an EXCLUSIVE… and as always, it's ONLY on Bollywood Hungama! Aamir Khan is in a joyous mood! JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA is smashing box-office records and at the rate the film is faring, it may turn out to be the biggest grosser of the year, so far. A thrilled Aamir cannot hide his happiness when we discuss the numbers. The fact is, the film has worked big time, not just in India, but also in the international markets [Overseas distributor UTV has yet another Hit to their credit]. "The response is unimaginable. Believe me, I was quite nervous before the release. I was worried about the response. But I have always believed that a sincere effort would always stand out. In this case, I would like to give full credit to Abbas [Tyrewala]. He and his team worked relentlessly to make a genuinely good film," says the soft-spoken actor/producer, who's visiting various cities to promote the film [he's in Nagpur currently]. Has he analyzed, what actually worked? "I've always maintained that the script is the star. JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA was made with utmost honesty and that translated into success," he adds. Tell him that brand 'Aamir Khan' is synonymous with quality cinema and he almost blushes, "No, no… Abbas and his team deserve the credit. I wasn't there as an actor, but Abbas made it happen. Each one, the actors included, worked hard and gave their best." Amidst all the euphoria, Aamir's name has been dragged into a controversy. Reportedly, the Bawejas -- Harry and Harman -- have cried 'Sabotage', clearly pointing an accusing finger at Aamir. "It's childish," Aamir tells me. Please elaborate. "I saw Harry and Harman on television. I even read their statements in the media. I've been an actor for 20 years now. I belong to a family that's been making movies for almost five decades. I am well aware of the kind of hard work that goes into making a film. Why would I try to harm anyone? Forget harming, I wouldn't wish ill for anyone, Harry and Harman included." Aamir continues in the same breath, "I wish them [Bawejas] the best. Har aadmi mehnat karta hain. Ups and downs are part and parcel of this business, but you can't go around town pointing accusing fingers at others. I just don't understand, why am I being dragged into all this?" The conversation veers towards his next release GHAJINI. Reportedly, the film was slated for release on October 2, but there are reports that it has been postponed to December 12, the same week as Aditya Chopra-SRK's RAB NE BANA DI JODI hits the screens. "I am unaware of their release date, but GHAJINI is not arriving on October 2. We are aiming at November-end release and that's final," he asserts.

Consequently, the teasers were withdrawn. It's said that a new set of promos will be on air soon. "The first promo was basically to enlighten the viewers about the film," GOD TUSSI GREAT HO director Rumi Jaffery tells me, "We will actually kick-start the campaign with song promos. We haven't withdrawn the promos, that's a misconception." Rumi defends Salman completely. "Salman is not the type to interfere in anyone's work. He's not made that way. Aajkal actors editing pe baithte hain aur promos bhi banate hain. But Salman doesn't belong to that breed." Rumi adds. Ask him if the release date will be shifted ahead [it's scheduled for release on 15th August] and Rumi shoots back, "No way! GOD TUSSI GREAT HO is arriving on that date. That's final."

Irrfan Khan replaces Sanjay Dutt in Sanjay's Gupta's Alibaug

It's official. The dilemma over Sanjay Dutt's exit from his former buddy Sanjay Gupta's autobiographical Alibaug has been resolved. Irrfan Khan who's just shot a new film Acid Factory with Gupta has taken over from Sanjay Dutt in Alibaug. The shooting resumes on July 8. Says Gupta, "I've to regretfully move on with the casting. I wrote the film with Sanjay Dutt in mind and even shot with him. But then destiny, if we can call it that, intervened. And he made his inability to do the film expressly clear. He didn't tell me why. I didn't ask. All I can say is Sanjay Dutt and I never shared only a professional rapport. When a year ago he made his exit from Alibaug clear, I was not willing to accept it." Alibaug is Gupta's most personal film. It deals with the time four years ago when he almost perished in a car accident. Dutt was slated to play a character based on Gupta. Says the regretful director, "Alibaug goes way beyond just another project for me. The entire cost of the film is what I charge as a director today. I could easily be making something else. Alibaug is being made for strictly personal reasons. Ironically, I suffered a huge personal loss (Dutt's friendship) during this film. If during its course one relationship was severed, I made ten other friends because of Alibaug. This film is vital to me and my actors. This film means a lot to them. I can't afford to let them down. We waited two years. Now I've no choice but to move on." Why Irrfan? Explains Gupta, "I wasn't looking for a star as big as Sanjay Dutt. It's my good fortune that today as a star Irrfan has arrived. I was looking for a great performer. That Irrfan is. He's also a good human being. We spoke about the film 5-6 months ago. I need to re-shoot about 10-12 days of Sanjay's portion. It's a pity he's not there. It was a departure for Sanjay Dutt from everything he has done. But he sent me categorical messages saying he won't do it. I won't call Irrfan a replacement. Professionally and personally, Sanjay Dutt is irreplaceable in my life." Adds Irrfan, "One day Sanjay Gupta narrated the script to me in the car. I immediately fell for it. The problem was, I had to replace a star of Sanjay Dutt's stature. Fortunately, I've a very clear sense of his personality. I can occupy his space in Alibaug without having to worry about how he'd have played the role. I've tremendous admiration for Sanjay Dutt. He always plays his roles so straight and transparent. I'd like to achieve the same level of transparency in my performance. Actually, I've never replaced any actor before. I'd like to see my role in Alibaug as a new challenge rather than a replacement. "

Mishap averted on the sets of Akshay Kumar-Sanjay Dutt starrer Blue

The cast and crew of Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision's next big project, Blue, directed by Anthony D' Souza, faced a dangerous situation during the shooting of the film in the Bahamas recently. Apparently, a sequence involving Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar and cameraman Peter Zuccarni required a ship to be blasted. Utmost precautions had been taken, and Sanjay, Akshay and the cameraman were 50 feet underwater filming the sequence. But even with such extreme care being taken, due to the underwater conditions, the blast went a little out of control! It was a harrowing moment for the entire team, but luckily the cameraman used his presence of mind and got Sanju Baba, Akki and himself out of trouble quickly. Back on shore, the actors thanked their stars for such a narrow escape. With an impressive star-cast comprising of Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta, Katrina Kaif and Zayed Khan along with some spectacular stunts and breathtaking underwater sequences, Blue is certainly one film to look forward to.
