He is undoubtedly the 'king of romance'. Romance has always been defined by Yash Raj Films and the man responsible for this is Mr. Yash Chopra. Chopra is indisputably one of India's most successful filmmakers. With a career straddling over decades, he has been associated with more than 40 films, most of which have been successful at the box-office. Arguably, he can be called India's most successful convergence of creativity and administrative genius as a director and producer.
Yash Chopra has a lot of awards to his claim, in addition to that, he has now been bestowed with the `Officier de la Legion d`Honneur`, the highest French distinction, for his contribution to the Indian cinema. The French cinema halls, where his films are being played, will be decorated in a special ceremony at the French Embassy in Paris on July 5.
Earlier this prestige was bestowed upon the likes of late Satyajit Ray, Lata Mangeshkar, and Amitabh Bachchan among other Indian film personalities. Bonnafont, Ambassador of France to India would present the award to Yash Chopra at the French Embassy during the official ceremony. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 27 Jun 2008 | 3:54 pm
It looks like the notorious slump in the music industry is over. Suddenly star prices have skyrocketed propelling the music industry to follow suit. "It's all because of Akshay Kumar," says Pritam Chakraborty with a straight face. "When he started charging unheard-of prices (apparently in the vicinity of Rs 30 crores) the entire economics of an average film project altered drastically. Today my musicians, arrangers and programmers are asking for a steep hike in their remuneration. I've no choice but to hike my fee accordingly."
Though Pritam doesn't mention a specific amount, his fee has apparently gone up from approximately 7-8 lakhs per score to around 12-15 lakhs. All the other composers including the successful Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Vishal Shekhar charge in the same vicinity.
However, after the release of the soundtrack of Anees Bazmee's Akshay Kumar starrer Singh Is Kinng which has been sold at a staggering price of Rs 13.5 crores, Pritam Chakbraborty who has scored music for the album is expected to hike his fee by many notches.
Says the long-haired globally-geared composer, "Singh Is Kinng redefines the parameters of film music sales. This kind of price for a movie soundtrack was unheard-of after people stopped buying music off the shelves as much as they used to, thanks to computer and television outlets."
However, Pritam has walked away with very little of the Singh Is Kinng loot. "We musicians remain underpaid especially lately when the music industry was undergoing a slump. For me the turning point was the soundtrack of Jab We Met which gave me a chance to be unusually creative and then Race which had peppy item songs."
A.R.Rahman is a price apart. Apparently, his fee per score used to be around 1.5 crore rupees which considering the all-round escalation in movie budgets has gone up to Rs. 2.5 crores.
Last year's flamboyant flavour Himesh Reshammiya has stopped doing music for films that do not feature him in the cast. So he cannot be counted among the musicians in the race.
But composer Aadesh Shrivastav feels the bubble is an illusion. "And it's bound to burst. Who are these people who are suddenly paying in multi-crores for music rights when everyone knows music doesn't sell these days? Very frankly, I look at the Rs. 13.5 crore claim for the Singh Is Kinng soundtrack with great skepticism. Whom are they giving that kind of money to? The film's leading man Akshay Kumar or the music composer Pritam? Have they given Pritam even a fraction of the money they've got for the music rights?"
Aadesh feels film music is going through an era of unhealthy competition. "I remember when Laxmikant-Pyarelal had composed the Qawwalli 'Parda Hai Parda' for Amar Akbar Anthony, R.D. Burman was so thrilled, he immediately congratulated Laxmi-Pyare and was inspired to compose a Qawwalli 'Hai Agar Dushman' in Hum Kissi Se Kam Nahin. Today the competition is so unhealthy. If two plagriarized songs click in a movie, another music director will offer to rip off four songs for the same producer and make them chartbusters. Today when a listener hears a song he likes his first reaction is, 'Where is it stolen from?' It's very difficult to remain original like I am, when everyone is busy copying. That's why I'm doing so much non-film work. Very honestly I see no future in Hindi film music." Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 27 Jun 2008 | 2:01 pm

In exactly 3 weeks from now, the world would know about how 3 National Award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion would look like. Come 18th July and the film's first look would be unveiled along with the screening of Kismat Konnection. Though it would only be a teaser, it would mark the launch of the film's first ever official peep in.
Says Bhandarkar whose Fashion yet again promises to be a film that would present realism in an entertaining manner, "The film is getting closer to the finishing line and over the next few months, we would see Fashion getting more and more visible. Along with Kismat Konnection, audience would now also get a chance to get a peek at Fashion."
Though the teaser would last for only one minute and would come sans any dialogues, it would introduce all the important characters of the film which includes Priyanka Chopra along with Kangna Ranaut, Mugdha Godse and Arjan Bajwa.
Says a source attached to the film, "The first look itself has turned out to be mind blowing. As has been the case with Bhandarkar sir's films from the past, Fashion too has a shock value attached to it and would catch the viewer unaware. The one minute teaser has been cut quite well and would act as a good enough kick start for the film to start creating a buzz from the word Go! The film is looking great and this is certainly going to be Bhandarkar sir's biggest project till date."
On questioned about the film being indeed so huge, Madhur only goes on to say, "I have always maintained that Fashion has gone deep into the underbelly of what happens in the word of glitz and glamour. My films have always showed a mirror to the society and Fashion is no different. Just wait and watch for the film's teaser on the big screen. This is just going to be the beginning of many more things to come."
Looking at a November release, Fashion would be one of the many releases of Priyanka Chopra this year which include Love Story 2050, Drona, God Tussi Great Ho, Dostana and Chamku. A co-production of UTV Motion Pictures and Bhandarkar Entertainment Fashion would be releasing more than one and a half years after Bhandarkar's last film Traffic Signal (which recently fetched the director a National Award for the Best Director). It is filmmaker's most expensive project till date and is being shot across different countries. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 27 Jun 2008 | 10:43 am
Over the years, we have been hearing stories around sequel to some of the most popular Shah Rukh Khan starrers like Baazigar, Baadshah and even Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge. Though most of these stories have turned out to be fabricated with hardly any substance to them, a sequel has been quietly planned and is already getting ready to go on floors.
We are talking about King Khan's first released film, Deewana which had hit the theaters a decade and a half back. The film starred Rishi Kapoor in the male lead along with Divya Bharati. Director of films like Elaan, Ziddi, Salakhen and most recently Big Brother - Guddu Dhanoa - has conceptualised a sequel to the hit film and already roped in Adhyayan Suman to play the lead. Incidentally, Deewana had marked the debut of director Raj Kanwar while the film was produced by Guddu Dhanoa along with Lalit Kapoor.
Confirms Adhyayan Suman who has left the Haal-e-Dil experience behind him within a week of it's release and is already looking forward to many more lucrative offers coming his way, "Yes, I am acting in the sequel to Deewana and am happy to be a part of Guddu Dhanoa cinema. I realize that at the end of the day, it is hardcore commercial cinema that runs and Gudduji's films have always provided wholesome entertainment."
Doesn't it bother him that off late, Guddu Dhanoa hasn't quite enjoyed a great time at the box office? "Who doesn't go through a rough patch", counters Adhyayan, "I have caught on all the films that he has made over the years and know that he understands the pulse of the masses. Who makes the film a success? Masses right! If you make a good film which is not watched by audience, then what's the point? I for sure know that Gudduji would bounce back with the Deewana sequel."
Hold on a second? Is it entirely possible to make a sequel to Deewana? Especially so because out of the three main leads in the film, Rishi Kapoor's character dies in the end while Divya Bharati is no more in real life!
Winks Adhyayan, "That's the entire beauty of this sequel. Let me tease you a little - I would say that it is a sequel but not 'really a sequel' in entirety. Keep guessing!"
While Adhyayan is indeed excited about being a part of this set up, it is yet not clear whether the man who played the most important character in the film, Shah Rukh Khan, would be playing a part in the sequel! Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 27 Jun 2008 | 10:11 am

Continuing the tradition of showcasing the first look of their upcoming films with their latest release, Yash Raj Films would be unveiling the promo of Bachna Ae Haseeno with Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic. Releasing tomorrow i.e. 27th June, 2008, the Kunal Kohli directed film would be accompanied with a specially cut theatrical promo of Bachna Ae Haseeno which has director Siddharth Anand at the helm of affairs.
Confirms Siddharth, "I am looking forward to the audience's reaction once the first look of Bachna Ae Haseeno is unveiled. The film is a family entertainer."
Tell him that Vishal and Shekhar, the composer duo of the film, are quite confident about the film's musical score and he says, "By God's grace the songs have turned out excellent. They are beyond our expectations. Vishal-Shekhar did an excellent job in my first two films - Salaam Namaste and Ta Ra Rum Pum - and the bond continues with Bachna Ae Haseeno as well."
Produced by Aditya Chopra, Bachna Ae Haseeno stars Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. This would be his second film after an ill-fated Saawariya which released last Diwali. Though the film was a commercial failure, it overnight made a superstar out of Ranbir Kapoor. Incidentally, Ranbir's co-star in Bachna Ae Haseeno is his real life girlfriend Deepika Padukone whose Om Shanti Om had crushed Saawariya, as both the films had release on the same day.
The film boasts of a casting coup of sorts since it also features Bipasha Basu and Minissha Lamba. With as many as three gorgeous women in tow, Ranbir has enjoyed quite a handful in Bachna Ae Haseeno. Also, it would have only turned out to be the case of more-the-better had Katrina Kaif stayed on as yet another female lead in the film. Though she was signed for the film, she had to eventually exit since the makers found that her part was making the film too long.
Now all set to release on 15th August, the film is most important for a) Ranbir Kapoor - since he would be looking at wiping away Saawariya debacle, b) Deepika Padukone - since she would be looking at following up on the blockbuster success of Om Shanti Om and c) Siddharth Anand - since he would be looking at completing a hat trick of successful films with YRF after Salaam Namaste and Ta Ra Rum Pum. If 'Forbes' can do it, then, why not Verve? We are indeed talking about the lifestyle magazine Verve's latest issue that has profiled the top female achievers of this year.
The best part of this list is that there are no rankings or ratings for the achievers. They are simply profiled. And true to the saying that there is no bigger business than showbiz, it is indeed Kareena Kapoor, the reigning queen of Bollywood, who features on the magazine cover. Showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to posing for covers, one surely must've lost the count of the number of magazines that she has posed for this year. Well, Kareena is one chic, for whom 'over-exposure' just does not hold any water.
The other achievers from the film industry include Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Katrina Kaif, Ekta Kapoor, Farah Khan, and Mira Nair.
Overall, this is a collector's issue and one should preserve itâ¦till the new list comes in! Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 26 Jun 2008 | 2:32 pm
The news is that, Dia Mirza helped give birth to a crocodile. Before the creative juices seep in your creative minds, let us clarify that giving 'birth' to crocodiles is a very easy task at the Sriracha Tiger Zoo in Bangkok, so easy that anyone can attempt it!
Dia Mirza visited the Sriracha Tiger Zoo during the croc egg-breaking festival during the IIFA weekend in Bangkok. An ecstatic Dia said that holding a baby crocodile in her palms was indeed a strange experience in itself as there were scores of crocodile eggs, most of them already cracked. Along with the caretaker, Dia had to get the baby crocodile out of the shell, cut the umbilical cord, and then bathe it in warm water!
But this process was not as easy as much as it sounds. Dia said that firstly the eggs were all sticky and full of goo. Then the baby croc that popped out was all smeared in blood! And when someone asked Dia if she would undergo the 'delivery process' once again, she quickly replied that helping in giving birth to one croc was more than enough for her.
One surely has heard of crocodile tears, but giving birth to a crocodile is a new thing and surely an unforgettable one. We are sure that Dia would agree! What say Dia! Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 26 Jun 2008 | 2:16 pm
