After playing an angel in Stringsâ new video âKoi Aanay Wala Haiâ, Bollywood hunk John Abraham would now once again be seen in the same get up for a new ad for petaDishoom, the youth arm of PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals).
John, who has always been closely associated with PETA, would be seen wearing huge angel wings standing next to the tagline âBe an Angel for Birds: Donât Cage themâ. The ad is a still shot taken from Koi Aanay Wala Hai video. Although the ad is titled âBe an Angel for Birdsâ, PetaDishoom wants fans to come up with their original titles. Winnersâ stand a chance to win for themselves autographed Cdâs of Strings new album.
Speaking on their association with this noble cause, Faisal lead singer of Strings said âThe eco-system of birds is important to preserving the biodiversity of planet Earth and they have as much a right to life as we doâ The duo also spoke out against the illegal trafficking of wild animals and animal parts. âThe trade of banned animal products is as much due to myth as it is due to ignoranceâ, says Bilal (guitarist and composer of Strings)
On a closing note, Simran Kodesia of PETA said, âWhen John Abraham speaks up for animals, young people across India listen. His close association with PETA means that the message of compassion for birds and all other animals will reach more people than ever beforeâ
We donât disagree on that either. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Jun 2008 | 3:53 pm
We all know the hype surrounding the Bachchan's is as always colossal. And if you thought that after their bare footed walk to the Siddhivinayak, their IIFA Bangkok premiere of Sarkar Raj and their grand Yatra Tour across India, the Bachchans would need that desperate break....think again! Because this time around, they are not alone. Bollywood Hungama's Devansh Patel finds out the hype and the excitement surrounding the Unforgettable Tour in London and has a quick five minute chat with dimpled beauty Preity Zinta who is a part of this world wide extravaganza.
The O2 Arena is like a place from another planet when you first see it! This is a huge entertainment district which includes an indoor arena, a music club, cinema, exhibition space, bars and restaurants. All inside the former huge dome-shaped Millenium Dome, O2 Arena, popularly known as the 'Dome's Canopy' was designed for all kinds of different events and one such event is going to take place in this arena on August 24 when the 'Unforgettable Tour' unleashes its magic for all the Bollywood lovers in and around the U.K. Britain is the heart and soul of live music and what better world class facility is Bollywood going to get than to perform in Europe's finest music venue. The £758m Dome was built as a Millennium project and opened in 2000 and has witnessed some of music industries finest talents from across the globe like Bon Jovi, Elton John, Take That, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Rolling Stones, etc. The names keep on rolling... what will make the world of difference when it comes to concerts at the O2 is 'The Unforgettable Tour 2008' which boasts of a star studded line up including the dancing diva of Bollywood, Madhuri Dixit, the sweet and chirpy Preity Zinta, the lovable Riteish Deshmukh, the musical duo Vishal & Shekhar, the ultra slim & sexy Shilpa Shetty, the new Kinng of Bollywood Akshay Kumar and for the first time on an international concert together comes the power of three - The Bachchan Trio, Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya. Phew! Can't get bigger than this!
With perfect sight-lines from every angle, crystal clear acoustics, obscenely comfy seating, wide concourses between aisles and a huge variety of snack and drink options to enjoy throughout the show, the O2 Arena is also fitted with - believe it or not - 548 toilets to avoid the excruciatingly painful and frustrating half an hour queue for the loo. Now that's a.....relief!!! From London, let's now move to Mumbai where all our Bollywood stars are busy rehearsing for their grand tour which flags off on July 18 in Toronto and ends in London on August 24. As you can already see the line up, it will not be surprising to see all your favourite celebs performing dance numbers to the tunes of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Dhoom and Dhoom 2, Bluffmaster, Guru and not to forget, the 'Kajra Re' track with all the three Bachchans. Though it will be exciting to see the Big B perform on some of his evergreen songs from his 1980's films. I can start feeling the excitement of the crazy and the ever so loyal Bollywood fans.
Whether it is the famous Wembley Arena or the O2 Arena, one thing is certain, it will only take seconds to fill it up. And while most of you must be impatiently waiting to see your favourite stars in action, here's something for you to cherish about in the mean time. Last weekend, I caught up with actress Preity Zinta who gave away very little in terms of what's going to be their game plan for 'The Unforgettable Tour'. Though she did mention what made this particular tour better than the rest of the world wide tours she has been a part of. "The fact that there is a completely new star cast who have never been on the world concert before, that's one of the USP's. Different people from different countries are going to get a different taste of 'The Unforgettable Tour'. Canada will have Akshay Kumar as a guest performer, Madhuri Dixit is going to tour America with us and Shilpa Shetty as we all know is a U.K favourite. Plus all the choreography is done by Shiamak Davar who will also be performing. He is of par excellence in choreography. There are lot more surprises installed. You'll just have to wait and watch", revealed the zealous Zinta. Preity will also be performing with Abhishek Bachchan on the title track of 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom' and a romantic number from the same film which goes 'Bol Na Halke Halke'. So on asking her whether I got the tracks right, she laughs and replies, "I am sorry but we are not allowed to disclose out on which numbers we are going to perform and if your guess is as good as mine, you're lucky. Yes, you can predict the songs seeing my pairing with Abhishek. But that's it. There's lot more to look out for". Looking at the home page of 'The Unforgettable Tour' website, the thing which catches your eye are the exclusive red coloured outfits which the stars have put on, symbolising glitz and glamour. So who have designed these outfits? "Well, many of the outfits are designed by Manish Malhotra and there are other designers too on board." With only three weeks to go before this mega tour kicks off, Zinta sounds elated. "Lot of preparation is going on for the tour as of now. We all are very excited and are rehearsing for three to four hours a day. New things are coming up everyday and so is the entry of guest stars", revealed Preity. The versatile actress has in the past been a part of a world tour couple of years ago called the 'Temptations Tour' with Shah Rukh Khan. Be it on the cricket field, big screen or on the stage, this dimpled beauty has impressed on and all, but I still have my sixth sense telling me that the Unforgettable Tour is hiding something quite dark in it's promotions and will pull the rabbit out of the hat only at the right time. What you are seeing is not what you may get. "I think whatever you get is going to be more than what you expect. I can promise you that. There is going to be a lot of everything in this show. I don't want to talk much about it because it's better you all watch it live", said the talented actress. She further adds, "This is going to be the biggest world tour coming out of the Indian Film Industry and all credit goes to Wizcraft in the way they've put the show up. Not to forget, we too have done our part to push it to another level (laughs).â 'The Unforgettable Tour' also has it's coincidences. The first world tour in which Preity Zinta was a part of had Aishwarya Rai. And this one reunites them. "I have seen all the three Bachchans perform before and I see them all the time as they are my friends but what's good is that the fans haven't seen them together on stage and it's going to be a one off experience for them", Preity told me. Having done about three hundred interviews on the weekend before she spoke to me, Zinta sounded a bit jaded and tired. So before she calls it a day, I fired a couple of last questions to her. I asked her to explain me why she wasn't seen much in the U.K over the past couple of years and was she excited to be coming and performing at the O2 Arena for the first time where famous international celebs have given live performances. She replied, "I was there in Yorkshire IIFA's last year. It's always a pleasure to come to London to perform. Usually, I've been to Wembley quite a few times but this is going to be an even bigger and a better experience. Londoners have also been very vocal about how they feel and it's always a place where you get maximum people screaming and shouting and going nuts. I am looking forward to it." So whether you're lucky to get your hands on the tickets or not, one thing is sure - Bollywood Hungama will try and make sure to keep you updated with all the latest interviews from the star performers and much more. Watch this space! And before Preity Zinta says good bye, a piece of advice from her. "We are coming and I want everyone to be there. I promise we won't let you down because we are going to put up one hell of a great show. So be there". Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 25 Jun 2008 | 3:15 pm
He has been one of the leading actors of this industry for the last 2 decades. From his first film QSQT to his most recent film Taare Zameen Par, his performances have always left everyone spellbound. He even has had a successful stint as a producer having produced the Academy award nominated Lagaan. Last year, he turned director with the sensitive film Taare Zameen Par, which was well appreciated by the critics and viewers. Now Aamir Khan is gung-ho about his latest production Jaane Tuâ¦Ya Jaane Na, in which he launches his nephew Imran Khan. In a candid chat with Aamir, we speak to him about his third production Jaane Tu⦠Ya Jaane Na which incidentally is also the first film which he is producing without acting in itâ¦
How and when did you decide to launch Imran?
Actually it didn't start that way⦠Jaane Tuâ¦Ya Jaane Na was being produced by Jhamu Sugandh along with two other films. Unfortunately, there was a financial crisis and Jaane Tu⦠was without a producer. When Imran Khan and Abbas Tyrewala narrated the script to me, I just fell in love with it. As a producer or an actor, wherever I put my name, I want the audience to identify that the film will be quality cinema. After I decided to produce the film, I went through all the auditions to check if they were perfect for their roles⦠only then did I approve. But now that the film is ready, it brings back emotional memories of chachajaan launching me in QSQT. Our families are very close and we all have grown up together, Mansoor, Nuzhat, Nikhat and me. All my formative years were spent at their house itselfâ¦.
What do you think of Abbas Tyrewala, as a director?
Abbas Tyrewala is very talented and that is reflected in his earlier works. He has written scripts for Munnabhai, Maqbool⦠I really like his sense of humor. When he approached me, I had asked him to shoot 5 scenes based on which I decided to produce the film. He did a commendable job and I was confident of him.
I had asked Abbas to shoot 5 scenes based on which I decided to produce the film. He did a commendable job and I was confident of him.
Having mentioned about QSQT, heard you had gone around, sticking posters of your movie on taxis?
Yes, I have done that; you see earlier, newcomers faced a lot of difficulties. Unlike today, we never had platforms where we could promote our films. In fact, I remember Juhi and I hardly gave any interviews and the few that we gave, never got any coverage⦠but now the awareness has increased and there are many platforms.
So you mean it has become easier for Imran Khan?
Yes it has, as compared to my time things have really changed a lot. These young actors like Imran, Genelia don't require to do all thatâ¦
You are accused of interfering in the director's work.
Actually, to the contrary I was not there for a single day of the shoot of Jaane Tu⦠Ya Jaane Na. I was shooting for Taare Zameen Par around the same time when Jaane Tu⦠was being shot. In fact there was a very funny incident that I recall. I was traveling or rather passing by Bandra bandstand and I saw shooting happening at bandstand. Curiosity got the better of me and I stopped to see who was shooting in the middle of the night at bandstand. When I got down, I was surprised to see Mansoor Khan, Abbas Tyrewala and Imran Khan shooting for Jaane Tu⦠that was the only day that I was on sets of Jaane Tuâ¦and that too accidentally
What do you think of the music of the film?
I love the music⦠A.R. Rahman is one of the biggest talents in the music world. After a long time, he has come up with a youthful, light album. He has basically followed the style of the film very well.
We have seen different facets of yours in your movies. What do you have to say about that?
I have actually lived a full life as an actor. I have always tried learning and growing with each role that I play. And I have felt the change in my personality with every movie. In fact more than me, I'm sure you all must have noticed that.
I have actually lived a full life as an actor. I have always tried learning and growing with each role that I play
Your blog keeps you in newsâ¦. especially the SRK blog?
You know what, Shah Rukh Khan and I keep joking with each other... we have such a comfort level with each other that we can understand a joke as a joke⦠That's the strength of our friendship and the understanding we share. He has made fun of me several times in the past and I have taken that as a joke. However, most of our fans didn't appreciate the humor so I apologized to them for hurting their feelings⦠In fact we spoke a couple of days back⦠I had called him to invite him for the Premiere.
For the Premiere of the movie, is it true that you have called both Amitji and Shah Rukh?
Yes⦠it is an emotional moment for the family and I know that chachajaan would have wanted to call the entire film fraternity. I have called all my friends and colleagues from the industry.
Is the song Pappu Can't Dance hinting at Salman?
No. How can that be? And by the way, Salman is a very good dancer
So what do you have lined up for this year?
Jaane Tu⦠releases on July 4⦠As an actor, I have Ghajini releasing this year. Then in production I have two films, Delhi Belly and one more untitled film by Anusha⦠after I complete Ghajini, I would be starting work on Raju Hirani's next film. While most star-sons / daughters get launched with big hype, this young lad prefers to let his work do all the talking. Acting is in his blood and why not after all he is the son of two of the finest actors of Hindi cinema- Raj Babbar and late Smita Patil. With such genes, it is but natural that he decided to step into Bollywood. We are talking about the newest kid on the block- Prateik Babbar who will be seen playing an important role in the much awaited romantic comedy Jaane Tuâ¦Ya Jaane Na. In a free-wheeling chat with Bollywood Hungama, Prateik shares his experience working on the film, talks about his growing up days and reveals what he likes to do in his free time.
Until recently, no one knew that you are debuting with Jaane Tuâ¦Ya Jaane Na. Why was it kept under wraps?
To be honest I have no idea (smiles). Technically, this is my debut as it's the first feature film which I would be seen in, but the film is not based on me nor am I playing the lead character. So may be that's whyâ¦.
Technically this is my debut as it's the first feature film which I would be seen in, but the film is not based on me nor am I playing the lead character.
So what role do you play in the film?
I play Genelia's brother in the film. I am always teasing her and taking her case in the film. The character's name is Amit Wadia. He is someone who has had a troubled childhood. That troubled background of his, makes him very arrogant and laidback. He is also an introvert and doesn't like talking to too many people. He paints once in a while and has a pet mouse. His parents are always worried about him, if he is going in the right track or if he is doing something wrong. Beyond that I guess, it's best that you watch the film and see for yourselves.
My character's name is Amit Wadia. He is someone who has had a troubled childhood, which makes him very arrogant and laidback.
How did you bag the film?
I was working with Prahlad Kakkar in his production team when I got a call to screen test for this film. I wasn't really sure if I wanted to do something like this at that time; however, I went ahead and gave a screen test. They liked me and thought I fit the character perfectly and offered me the role. This was also around the same time when I was planning to study at a film school but when I got the role, I decided to join next term after the shoot.
Jaane Tuâ¦Ya Jaane Na is touted as Imran's grand launchâ¦Weren't you looking for debuting with a solo lead film?
To be frank, I never thought about debuting in a film and all that stuff. I knew Imran to some extent. I am glad that I am with him in his first film and my best wishes are always with him. I also hope people appreciate the film and my work.
How has been the experience working on Jaane Tuâ¦Ya Jaane Na?
Oh, it's been great fun to work on this film. Imran is a really great guy and Abbas is also a fantastic director. He is a really flexible guy to work with and the whole atmosphere was really chilled out.
Did you get a chance to interact with Aamir Khan? How was the experience?
Not really as he was always busyâ¦.he is Aamir Khan after all (laughs). But I met him two weeks ago during a get-together and he complimented me on my work. He said that I fit the character to the bill which really was very sweet of him. It indeed gave me a big high.
I met Aamir two weeks ago during a get-together and he complimented me on my work.
Not much is known about your background besides the fact that you are the son of two great actors of Hindi cinema- Smita Patil and Raj Babbar. So what is your background like?
I am just a normal guy who was busy studying before acting in this film. I keep doing a lot of short courses. I studied for 6 -7 months with Mr. Subhash Ghai at Whistling Woods International. Then I did an acting course with Mr. Kishore Namit Kapoor. I consider him to be my Guru. He is the biggest motivation in my life. He has taught some of the biggest stars of this industry and is indeed a man of complete wisdom with tremendous amount of experience.

Your mom (late Smita Patil) passed away when you were really young, whom did you stay with during your childhood days?
I have been living my grandparents (mom's parents).
Did you always harbor dreams of pursuing acting and entering Bollywood?
Yes. Initially I wanted to be a cricketer though. I was quite good at cricket. I was a pace bowler and a pinch-hitter like Irfan Pathan. Due to some reason I quit playing in my 12th grade.
Initially I wanted to be a cricketer though. I was quite good at cricket.
Are you in touch with you dad regularly - Mr.Raj Babbar?
He is my dad after all (smiles). We are as close as any other father and son. He is always there for me, encouraging me and telling me what is right and what is wrong.
Arya Babbar once quoted that âParteik is my buddyâ. Are you close to him?
Yesâ¦he is my buddy and advisor and I am his support system.
Your mom is considered as one of the greatest actresses of Indian cinema .She has to her credit numerous memorable performances. Which do you rate as some of her best performances?
Ohâ¦there are so many of them. Chakra, Mirch Masala with Mr. Naseeruddin Shah and Shakti with Mr.Bachchan are some of my favorites.
Is there any actress who has the same intensity like your mom among the current generation?
I think Nandita Dasâ¦there are others too but they need the right roles and directors.
Among the current lot, I think Nandita Das has the same intensity like my mom
Among the current crop of actors / actresses whom do you admire and would love to work with in the future?
I love Arjun Rampal. I think he is the ultimate dude. He is the King of Good looks. He is finally playing a rock star in Rock On and I wonder what took him so long? (Laughs)
So what's the real Prateik like and what are his hobbies?
What am I like? I am just a normal guy. I love going to the gym and working out. I love sports - football, cricketâ¦.all kinds of sports.
What kind of roles would you like to do in the future?
I would love to do a role like what Vivek did in Company. I think he is really lucky to start out with a genre like that. He has got some good roles like in Company and Shootout At Lokhandwala. I would also love to do some dark stuff like Kaante.
I would love to do a role like what Vivek did in Company and Shootout at Lokhandwala. I would also love to do some dark stuff like Kaante
Any director whom you would like to work with in the future?
Ohâ¦there are so many of them. Everyone has their own style of making films and is good in their own way. I would love to work with all of them at some point in the future.
So what's on the agenda after Jaane Tuâ¦Ya Jaane Na?
That's something which I would not like to tell you now as the surprise element won't be there (Laughs). I am doing a theatre workshop with my mom and sister's Ekjute Theatre Group. After that I really don't know what I am planning to do next. I may just do one more short course in acting (laughs) Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 25 Jun 2008 | 12:41 pm

In an industry not too well known for gratitude Konkona Sen Sharma surprised her director Vishal Bhardwaj by calling him to thank him for her National Award in Omkara.
Says Konkona, "I can't tell you how tough speaking that dialectical Hindi was for me and how much Vishal helped me get over my inhibitions. My Hindi is okay. But that UP dialect in Omkara was murder and that too in sync sound. After I heard about my National Award I reminded Vishal of how much I struggled with my dialogues. Vishal remembered how terrified I'd get every time he changed a word in my dialogue. He had to finally remind me to stop constantly worrying about my accent because it was getting in the way of my performance. I'm appreciated in my performances because my characters are so well written. Even Indu in Omkara was so well-conceived. Of course it needed a competent actress."
So is Omkara a turning point in Konkona's career? "Films that become successful turn into turning points. I'd like every film of mine to be a turning point. I thought I was good in Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Aaja Nachle. But the films didn't work. Aaja Nachle was my most relaxed and fun film."
She doesn't quite revel in the image of the National- Award winner. "Filmmakers have this preconceived notion of me as this serious cerebral person. But once they meet me that image evaporates. Because I'm so nervous myself when I meet them."
Konkona is very excited about Anil Senior's Dil Kabbadi. "To begin with Rahul was supposed to be opposite Soha and Irrfan opposite me. Then Rahul and Irrfan swapped roles. To be honest it's inspired by one of Woody Allen's comedies. It's about two couples played by Rahul Bose and me, and Irrfan and Soha and their ups and downs. All done tongue-in-cheek. I loved doing it. I like doing roles that explore contemporary relationships." Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Jun 2008 | 11:07 am
Ironical as it may sound, but she is a 'Police Officer' who is also a 'Prem Qaidi', who, with her 'Khuddaar' 'Andaz' fought with all the 'Muqabla' because she had done 'Nishchay' that she will 'Deedar' her 'Raja Babu' with all her 'Prem Shakti'.
We know that the aforementioned 'kahaani' is a total give away about whom we are talking about. We are indeed talking about the one and only Karisma Kapoor aka Lolo. And people⦠put your hands together and rejoice as this talented actress celebrates her Birthday today!
Karisma was born in a family where the Sun and the Moon wish 'Hello Bollywood', instead of 'Good Morning'. In other words, she was born in a family of talented actors, with Babita as her mother, Randhir Kapoor as her Father, the Originally Showman Raj Kapoor as her Grandfather and Kareena Kapoor as her sisterâ¦the list is practically endless!
Even though she was the sole contender for the Numero Uno position of her times, Karisma shocked the world by bidding adieu to Bollywood to settle as a dutiful wife and mother! Even though there resides huge amount of contemplations in the minds of her fans about her comeback, let there be no contemplation about you wishing this ever-reigning queen of Bollywood a very Happy Birthday, by simply posting your wishes below! She exemplifies the fresh, quintessential Indian beauty. There is newness to her and yet, she has an impressive body language to carry off designs from Lanvin to Valentino. And, what makes her an interesting read is that she has Aamir Khan's badge of approval with whom she stars in his next release, Ghajini. His `new leading lady` is clearly an intriguing choice.â

Let's get into some guessing game. The hotshot actor was planning a thriller with one of his favorite directors. Till sometime back, the leading lady of the film wasn't finalized, although there were whispers that a relative newcomer was being considered for it.
Now hear the latest! The hotshot actor's current girlfriend -- a top actress -- will now be essaying the part. This development works two ways -- it makes wise business sense since both the hotshot actor and his lady love are enjoying a great phase professionally, and also silences those who are spreading rumors of the couple's break-up.
No prizes for guessing the right names! Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Jun 2008 | 7:07 am
He has worked with Shah Rukh Khan in four films [RAJU BAN GAYA GENTLEMAN, YES BOSS, PHIR BHI DIL HAI HINDUSTANI, CHALTE CHALTE]. For the first time, veteran Aziz Mirza has looked elsewhere, beyond Shah Rukh. "When I bounced off the idea of KISMAT KONNECTION to Juhi [Chawla], her reaction was, 'Sounds so much like a young SRK.' Shah Rukh is a terrific actor, but he wouldn't look in his 20s. I had to cast someone young for the part," the soft-spoken film-maker tells me.
So how did he zero upon Shahid Kapur? "I had seen ISHQ VISHK and was truly impressed by his acting abilities. I also liked his effort in films that didn't work. But he has surprised me with his performance in KISMAT KONNECTION. He's excellent in the film," Mirza informs me.
KISMAT KONNECTION is important for yet another reason. Mirza's son Haroun will be credited as the co-director of the film. "Actually, he should've been credited as the co-director during CHALTE CHALTE itself. My wife Nirmala was hospitalized then and I was at the hospital most of the times. Haroun came forward and shouldered the responsibility then. He's extremely capable and so sure of what he wants," the veteran states. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Jun 2008 | 7:03 am

If there is one filmmaker who can give 'real' competition to Madhur Bhandarkar in terms of hard hitting 'realistic' movies, then, it is indeed Sudhir Mishra, the man who gave Bollywood closest-to-reality films like Dharavi, Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin, Chameli, Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi, and many more.
Quite recently, a tabloid wrote about him saying that he is planning to make a movie on the famous human rights activist Dr. Binayak Sen, with Kay Kay Menon in the lead. When Bollywood Hungama spoke to him to confirm the same, he said, "Since Dr. Binayak Sen is in jail at present, any decision about the film on him will be done only after he gives his consent."
Sudhir Mishra is also planning to direct a period comedy film. "It's a period but comic film called Nawab The Nautch Girl and the John Company. Set in 1850's, the film is about a madcap Nawab and his obsessive love for a Nautch girl. It's also about a man who pretends to be a hero and has to live up to the myth of being a hero!" Mishra adds, "It's too early to talk about the starcast, but I am hoping to have Irrfan Khan alongwith Chitrangada Singh as its lead pair."
Meanwhile, Mishra is ready with Tera Kya Hoga Johnny, which he is planning to release in October. It stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Karan Nath, K.K. Menon and Soha Ali Khan alongwith noted directors turning actors Anurag Kashyap and Aditya Bhattacharya. Tera Kya Hoga Johnny deals with Mishra's favourite subject 'Mumbai'! "The film is about a character Johnny, who sells coffee on the streets of Mumbai for a living. The film also has Sikandar a 13-year old protagonist who also played an important role in the film, Shadows of Time. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 24 Jun 2008 | 5:03 pm
Last Saturday, on 21st June, Amitabh Bachchan felicitated Madhur Bhandarkar as the best contemporary film director. In a ceremony organized by 'Spandan Art', Big B presented the title in the form of a Memento to Madhur for winning the National Award for Best Director for his film Traffic Signal. This is his third National Award after Chandni Bar and Page 3.
Well, if receiving the Memento from the legendary actor wasn't good enough, there was more to come for the filmmaker who is busy wrapping Fashion. In front of a packed audience, Big B said that Bhandarkar was the new age Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
"What can I really say about appreciation like this and that too from a person of the stature of Big B", says Bhandarkar who is still trying to come to terms with the comment made by Amitabh Bachchan.
"It is a huge honor to be even talked in the same breath as the filmmaker who has made close to 50 movies. I can challenge that there won't be a single Indian who wouldn't have seen a Hrishikesh Mukherjee film."
Talking about his experience of watching Hrishikesh Mukherjee films, Bhandarkar says, "I have grown on his films. Anari, Anupama, Satyakam, Guddi, Anand, Bawarchi, Namak Haram, and Golmaal - just look at the kind of films he has made over the years. There are so many genres that he touched upon; the list is endless."
Amitabh Bachchan also complimented Bhandarkar for being one of the rare film makers whose films work both commercially and critically. He also added that the film maker has never believed in making escapist cinema and instead kept reality on the forefront.
"As a kid I used to watch Hrishikesh Mukherjee films in my video library. His films inspired me as they spoke about real issues and treaded a real path while being commercial and entertaining. Though I am still learning over the years, I try to be inspired by great filmmakers like him. I hope a few decades down the line, I get the same kind of love, affection and recognition as greats like Hrishikesh Mukherjee get more than 50 years after making their first film", concludes an emotionally charged Bhandarkar.
On a side-note, some of the best work of Amitabh Bachchan in his early years in the industry has been with Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Together they made some memorable films like Anand, Mili, Abhimaan, Namak Haraam, Chupke Chupke and Jurmana. Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 24 Jun 2008 | 11:26 am
