Last Saturday, on 21st June, Amitabh Bachchan felicitated Madhur Bhandarkar as the best contemporary film director. In a ceremony organized by 'Spandan Art', Big B presented the title in the form of a Memento to Madhur for winning the National Award for Best Director for his film Traffic Signal. This is his third National Award after Chandni Bar and Page 3.
Well, if receiving the Memento from the legendary actor wasn't good enough, there was more to come for the filmmaker who is busy wrapping Fashion. In front of a packed audience, Big B said that Bhandarkar was the new age Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
"What can I really say about appreciation like this and that too from a person of the stature of Big B", says Bhandarkar who is still trying to come to terms with the comment made by Amitabh Bachchan.
"It is a huge honor to be even talked in the same breath as the filmmaker who has made close to 50 movies. I can challenge that there won't be a single Indian who wouldn't have seen a Hrishikesh Mukherjee film."
Talking about his experience of watching Hrishikesh Mukherjee films, Bhandarkar says, "I have grown on his films. Anari, Anupama, Satyakam, Guddi, Anand, Bawarchi, Namak Haram, and Golmaal - just look at the kind of films he has made over the years. There are so many genres that he touched upon; the list is endless."
Amitabh Bachchan also complimented Bhandarkar for being one of the rare film makers whose films work both commercially and critically. He also added that the film maker has never believed in making escapist cinema and instead kept reality on the forefront.
"As a kid I used to watch Hrishikesh Mukherjee films in my video library. His films inspired me as they spoke about real issues and treaded a real path while being commercial and entertaining. Though I am still learning over the years, I try to be inspired by great filmmakers like him. I hope a few decades down the line, I get the same kind of love, affection and recognition as greats like Hrishikesh Mukherjee get more than 50 years after making their first film", concludes an emotionally charged Bhandarkar.
On a side-note, some of the best work of Amitabh Bachchan in his early years in the industry has been with Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Together they made some memorable films like Anand, Mili, Abhimaan, Namak Haraam, Chupke Chupke and Jurmana. Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 24 Jun 2008 | 11:26 am

De Taali may not have set the box office on fire but amongst the three movies which came last Friday, it is still being the best of the lot. Also, as have been the feelers for this romantic comedy, the film is giving itself a fighting chance at the theaters.
"I am surprised to hear conflicting reports about the film. A few trade sources haven't been too kind in stating the box office prospects of the film but there are other industry sources who are maintaining that De Taali should do well to come out unscathed", says Ritiesh Deshmukh who, once again has managed to steal the show from right under everyone's nose.
How about the below the par reviews that film has got?
"I don't agree that everyone has gone ahead and ripped apart the film", rightly defends Riteish, "Yes, some critics have been unhappy about the film's execution. They are asking questions as to why the trio of friends (Aftab, Ayesha and myself) have been acting like 12 year olds. But hey, that's exactly the point, you know! We play a bunch of youngsters who meet each other as 12 year olds and ever since then have been happy to stay on in the same time warp. That's the entire idea of friendship in De Taali.
"Still, I am not judging the critics here", continues Riteish, "They may have their own views. See, there are so many others who have indeed liked the film as well. To each his own. And at the end of the day, it all boils down to whether the film is working with audience or not. As per the information which I have gathered from impartial and neutral sources, it is doing well with the youth with every passing day. The film may not have done great business on the first day but it is the kind that would sustain well as days pass by."
Tell him that this time around, even Rimmi Sen has gathered quite a few accolades for her performance in the film along with him and he says in a delighted tone, "See, I had said even earlier that it is Rimmi's character who brings the twist in the plot. In the absence of her character, there wouldn't have been De Taali. I am glad she got a well written part to enact where she has been appreciated for her performance. She deserves it!" Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa
There is no stopping 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa' as it continues to reign from the top. An Aamir Khan production has done it again after 'Taare Zameen Par' which saw it's music making quite an impression in the charts for months in succession.

Jannat
The film may be showing signs of exit from theatres after a super successful run but the music is still dominating in a big way. It would require a heavy weight album to move 'Jannat' from the height it is currently at.

3
Race
The film was superhit. The DVDs are dominating the charts as well. Meanwhile the music continues to be the best seller of the year. Clearly TIPS, UTV and Pritam couldn't have asked for more and now their eyes are set on their next collaboration 'Kismat Konnection'.

Love Story 2050
Inching up in the charts with ever passing week, 'Love Story 2050' is at it's highest position ever since it arrived on the stands. Now one waits to see if the album eventually manages to break into Top-3 (which looks quite possible).
'Sach Kehna', the best dance number from the album, has been revealed a little too early. It may have benefited 'Love Story 2050' if released around the time of film's release.
5
6
Ada
Breaking into Top-5, 'Ada' becomes Rahman's second album in the recent times (after 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa') to make a very good impression amongst the listeners. This is also Rahman's third straight successful album with 'Jodhaa Akbar' doing well in the early part of the year.
One wonders for how long the album would be able to sustain without any promotion. Once hardcore Rahman fans have given it a listen, how would the album reach out to rest of the music lovers?
6
7
Haal E Dil
Showing slight improvement over last week, 'Haal E Dil' moves up a spot. 'Oye Hoye' which has been picturised on Ajay-Kajol has also been revealed and now all the cards from the album are out in open.
The film has failed to make an impression and since it seems destined to go down, it is bound to adversely affect this good soundtrack as well.
7
4
Khuda Kay Liye
Just when it had seemed that 'Khuda Kay Liye' would be a strong contender to break into Top-3, it shows a heavy fall and is now at #7. One hopes that it stays on at the lower end of the charts at least for a few more weeks to come since it deserves a better market for itself.

8
9
Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic
Hardly making a move up in spite of Amisha's sizzle-n-bare act, 'Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic' has now joined the league of 'Laaga Chunari Mein Daag' and 'Aaja Nachle' that didn't make any impression in the charts.
Until and unless a miracle happens and the film turns out to be a superhit, the music doesn't seem to be creating a market for itself in next few weeks
9
New
De Taali
Finally this Vishal-Shekhar music manages to make an entry into the charts. While 'Tashan' sees it's way out this week, 'De Taali' compensates it's exit for Vishal-Shekhar. The title song and 'Maari Teetri' are hits and that should help the album gain further visibility.
The album has arrived in the charts quite belatedly and since the film by itself isn't extraordinary, there are doubts about sustainability of 'De Taali' in the charts.

New
Ugly Aur Pagli
A week after it's release, 'Ugly Aur Pahli' makes an instant impression in the charts. Seems Anu Malik is seriously making inroads into them music scene again with 'Ugly Aur Pagli' being his second album in the charts after 'Love Story 2050'.
A few listeners may scoff at the idea that 'Uglu Aur Pagli' carries a standard club-sound album that may not necessarily enjoy a long shelf life

He's arrived without the backing of a godfather, but is being considered for some prized projects. AAMIR hero Rajeev Khandelwal is here to stay in Bollywood. âLife has become even more beautiful, post AAMIR. The feedback has been great, the response is tremendous. I've had people like Pritish Nandy, Apoorva Lakhia, Paresh Rawal, so many bigwigs from within the industry complimenting me. I've dabbled in a different medium before [TV] and I wasn't sure how people from filmdom would react, but they've been so warm and generous in their praises. I've realized that eventually kaam bolta hain,â the soft-spoken Rajeev Khandelwal is all smiles.
What next? Has he signed any film, post AAMIR? âJust one -- PETER GAYA KAAM SE. The offers haven't stopped since AAMIR released. In fact, I'm off to Ladakh tomorrow [Wednesday] for a vacation and am taking along 7-8 scripts to read. There're times when you're tempted to sign a film when you're offered big money. But my fundas are clear -- first script, then money. I'm in no hurry to grab any and every film that comes my way,â he reveals his game plan.
Rajeev, that's the right way to go about it, if you're looking at playing a long innings here! Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 24 Jun 2008 | 7:17 am
This is a real Exclusive and as always, it's first on Bollywood Hungama.
July 4 is one crucial date. Aamir Khan's nephew Imran Khan and Harry Baweja's son Harman Baweja are keeping their fingers crossed for their debut films, JAANE TU YA JAANE NA and LOVE STORY 2050, respectively.
âI'm already getting the jitters. I wouldn't deny, I am feeling more and more nervous as the release dates draws nearer,â Harman confides. But Imran is feeling exactly the opposite. âI'm not feeling nervous or anxious. In fact, I am not experiencing anything that would tense me up. Perhaps, I may experience varied emotions as the release date draws closer,â Imran tells me.
What about the big clash, the battle royale? âListen, the business is sure to be divided. Imagine placing two mugs of coffee in front of you. The viewer has a choice. If both taste good, I'm sure he'd relish both,â Harman has a point. Imran, again, feels differently. âWhy is the media hell-bent on creating a war of sorts? It has been proved in the past that two good films can co-exist in one week. And I'm sure both will co-exist,â he speaks his mind.
However, both Harman and Imran admit they'd love to watch the other's films. And that's something that needs to be appreciated! Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 24 Jun 2008 | 7:11 am

It's always said that 'Truth is strange than fiction'. But there are times when fiction bows down its head before the truth! And encashing on such 'times' is Bollywood's very own hard-hitting filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, whose closest-to-reality film, Traffic Signal was bestowed with the National Award! And to celebrate this occasion, came Bollywood's undisputed 'Shahenshah' Amitabh Bachchan, who did the honors of felicitating this powerhouse director!
Having started his career with a dud like Trishakti, Madhur hit the jackpot with Chandni Bar and continued the winning spree with films like Page 3 and Traffic Signal. Not just the Madhur-ites (a collective term for the die hard fans of his films), but the whole of Bolly-folks are waiting with bated breath for his fiction cum truth film, Fashion, that's rumored to be exposing the other side of the fashion world.
On a parting note, if Madhur continues to be riding the reality horse with the same uninterrupted pace, then, the day won't be far when Hollywood officials will showcase all his films in their exclusive libraries and name them 'LIFE'!
What say Madhur saaheb! Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 23 Jun 2008 | 5:34 pm
The whole world and its favourite television guide have been wondering why Ekta Kapoor allowed her favourite actress Prachi Desai to work opposite Farhan Akhtar in Rock On when she has been openly unresponsive and hostile to the idea of her other actors leaving her company to pursue the big screen. Now it can be told.
Rock On director Abhishek Kapoor better known as Gattu is Ekta's favourite cousin. And there's absolutely nothing she would refuse him. Ekta admits her fondness for Abhishek 'Gattu' Kapoor. "Yes, he's my favourite brother after Tusshar. Gattu is my dad's own sister's son. So we are very close. We don't meet that often any longer. We are both busy doing our own thing. When we were younger, we used to bond very regularly. We have been on holidays together, just Gattu and me. But he's my coolest Bhaiyya. And there's nothing I wouldn't do for him."
When Coolest Bhaiyya decided to cast Farhan Akhtar as the lead in Rock On he was on the look-out for a fresh face for the female lead. Gattu seemed to be running into stumbling blocks. "Gattu asked me about Prachi. And I immediately agreed," says Ekta.
And never mind if it meant Balaji losing its blue-eyed girl. Says Ekta, "Honestly, Prachi is like part of our family. My father, mother, and I have adopted her. But as a producer I tortured the hell out of her. I made her work harder than any of my actors just because I was so close to her. Prachi feels that was unfair. But I didn't want to be accused of favoritism. Now, she's moved on. I want Prachi to give films a sincere try. I've told her to keep away from television for 6-8 months and focus on films. God Forbid, if, it doesn't work out, we're there for her." Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 23 Jun 2008 | 5:09 pm
