Vipul Shah's Singh is Kinng has pleased the Sikh community so much so that on 'Guru Purab' (yesterday) they felicitated Vipul Shah at the Khar Gurudwara.
"Actually I was also surprised; this is one of the very important days for the Sikhs. So I had gone there to see the festivities where I was then felicitated with a Sarafa; I think they were very happy with the way things have turned out with Singh is Kinng. But I am seriously very touched with their gesture and I feel that a little amount of care in what we portray about any community can go a long way. Filmmakers can actually learn a lot by coming in contact with the real ethos of a community. I personally have learnt a lot after I have interacted with the learned members of Sikh community," says Vipul Shah. The film's Executive Producer, Bimal Oberoi, accompanied Vipul. "Our intention was to portray the community in the right way and I am glad that we have managed to achieve it," adds off Vipul.
At the same time, Vipul Shah is also getting ready with the pre-production of London Dreams. "London Dreams will be on floors by this July," states Vipul Shah. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 17 Jun 2008 | 1:53 pm
Trust Ram Gopal Varma to maintain his cool in the most adverse of circumstances. He was allowing all the digs on him even as he had a series of failures in the form of Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, Darling, Shiva, Nishabd and Darna Zaroori Hai. And we are not talking about his productions yet. Now even as he finally has a film of his taking the best opening collections of his decade and a half old career, he is unfazed even as few people from within the industry are trying to pull it down.
Why such double standards Ramu? Why are a few sections of media not willing to give the film its due? "I hope you have seen Company. You would remember that there was a dialogue in the film that went as - 'Tumhaare Dhandhe Ki Jaat Hi Aisi Hi' (That's the character of the profession you are in). Just like any other profession, Bollywood too works in the same sphere with similar set of rules and regulations. Apne dhandhe ki jaat hi aisi hai", roars Ramu.
Please elaborate. "As filmmakers, we get frustrated if we see one such film getting successful which we had hoped all this while that it wouldn't. Count me also as one such filmmaker", he adds on after a hearty laugh, "Even I take digs on the movies being made around me. Now today when Sarkar Raj has turned out to be a success, it is difficult for some of us to digest that fact."
As per the collections that have come in, the film has netted close to 25 crores in first week alone. This is in fact close to sum total of overall collections of all the films directed by Ramu between Sarkar and Sarkar Raj. Isn't that a big deal in itself?
"Ask this question to those born-yesterday trade experts who are busy working overnight on their excel spreadsheets and trying to get all these calculations in place. They all seem to be worried more than me and my producers and are now bringing up theories around number of prints in circulation, occupancy, print counts etc.", quips Ramu who agrees that he is aware about the 24X7 debates on blogs and other media forums around Sarkar Raj collections and it's ultimate box office verdict.
"My point here is let's look at the bottom line", Ramu reasons here, "Sarkar Raj has netted near about Rs. 25 crores after first week itself. Now for a film which was made in Rs. 25 crores, has collected similar amount just from the domestic market, sees 7 crores coming from overseas and is easily approaching 50 crores considering the satellite/DVD rights etc., it would be insane not to call it as a success!"
"See, I have never tried to call my flops as box-office success stories. I have never done that before and would never do that in future. At the end of the day everything is black and white and collections are there to prove whether the film has worked or not."
Getting serious, he goes on to conclude, "The bottom line is Z which is the money earned and if that's good enough to keep us all happy, let us talk about that! Now if we start questioning that why did Sarkar Raj not earn X amount of money because of Y being the scope due to occupancy available, it is surprising!" Is it true Akshaye that you had a drinking problem recently?
Certainly not!
Where did that come from?
It was one photograph taken outside a friend's nightclub. It was blown a bit out of proportion. Isn't it normal to unwind at a friend's party? Suddenly, I hear I have a drinking problem.
It was also rumoured that you went to a rehabilitation centre?
Says who? Oh God, no! I'm the last person on this earth to make a spectacle of myself. Yes, I did take a vacation.
A friend was quoted as saying you had gone to clean yourself out?
I don't have friends who would talk like this.
Did this scandal bother you?
Come on, you can hardly call it a scandal. I can't say I was unaffected because such a thing has never happened to me before. I can say with a certain amount of gratitude that so far the press has always been fair to me. I'm not bitter about it. But I find a clear perspective missing in such rumours. But then we're living in a world that's constantly changing. Journalism in this country is also changing. I can see the humorous side of it. One lives and learns. Enough said on this topic.
You're an introvertâ¦
I am not
But you are a private person. How comfortable are you doing a loud comedy?
I haven't done that much comedy. Out of the 30 or 35 films, only 4 have been comedies. And of course Salaam-e-Ishq where I thought my track was really funny.
In the long run would you be remembered by Gandhi My Father or the comedies?
I've no burning ambitious to be remembered. Once I'm gone I'm gone. It doesn't make a damn difference. It's not my ambition to leave a legacy behind. It doesn't matter to me what people think about me when I'm not there.
Do you think Priyadarshan has reached saturation point as far as comedies are concerned?
That's not fair to him or to me. I've done only three comedies with him. And Priyan has done a lot more than just comedy in Hindi. In the South his oeuvre is phenomenal. And he's just made Kanjeevaram which I believe is awesome. The kind of success he has had at the box-office with comedies completely justifies what he does. We keep discussing many other films and scripts besides the ones we've done together. He's got such great ideas. Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 17 Jun 2008 | 10:20 am
Ajay Devgan making an entry standing on two bikes [Phool Aur Kaante], Abhishek Bachchan walking tall in a desert [Refugee], Hrithik Roshan making a stage show appearance [Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai] - it all boils down to how an actor makes an 'entry' into stardom in his first ever film.
This is why one wonders how is Nakuul Mehta, the main lead of Haal-e-Dil, being introduced on the big screen? Has it been planned as a conventional larger than life entry or something innovative is being planned?
Laughs Nakuul, "Let's say that it is more on the lines of being latter than former. Typically, in a young film belonging to the genre of Haal-e-Dil, it is expected that a male lead would get a so-called hero launch where he wears cool shades, some designer clothes and makes an entry on a bike which has a 45 degrees tilt to it. Well, none of this happens when Shekhar, the character I play, is introduced in Haal-e-Dil."
So how exactly is Nakuul's arrival announced in Bollywood? "Come on now, don't embarrass me and make it sound it all so larger than life", says the 24 year old young man who is happy to have found his bearings at such a young age, "To be honest, it is easily the funniest entry scene that I could have probably imagined. I would be seen coming out of a foam bath with some retro Western music around. This goes perfectly well with the kind of character I play."
And how has his character been designed in the film? "I play a goofy young boy who is quite normal, makes mistakes and doesn't feel shy admitting to them. He has a happy-go-lucky persona to him which is reflected in the way his entry shot has been choreographed", reveals Nakuul.
"He has two loves of his life - his guitar and his love for women. Keeping such traits in mind, it made just the perfect sense that instead of storming on the screen while being atop a bike; let's have Shekhar emerge from a foam bath. Now isn't that cool, pun intended!" Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 17 Jun 2008 | 10:02 am

While on MISSION ISTAANBUL, its lead actor Vivek Oberoi has turned a new leaf. "I made a lot of mistakes, I rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, I got carried away. I went through hell, personally and professionally. The media turned its back on me. Some of the projects I was associated with, evaporated into thin air. Everything I did, backfired," Vivek reminisces as we get into the flashback mode.
"But," he continues in the same breath, "I realized that the problem was with me, not anyone else. If almost everyone was talking ill of me, if almost everyone had trained their guns on me, it only went to prove that I was at fault, it only meant that I need to mend ways. As you sow so shall you reap."
Vivek also admits that the Salman Khan episode -- calling the entire media to his house to malign Salman -- is something he repents. "I used a public platform to malign him. When I felt I must apologize, I did so publicly, not discreetly," he admits honestly.
Quiz Vivek whether he'd work with Salman, Abhishek or Ash, pat comes the reply, "Of course, I would. I am a professional and so are they." Meanwhile, Vivek begins shooting for Tips' new film shortly, followed by Karan Johar's new project. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 17 Jun 2008 | 7:35 am

The next few days will be extremely hectic for the makers of MISSION ISTAANBUL. Reason being, two separate songs will be filmed, almost simultaneously, on Abhishek Bachchan and Vivek Oberoi at different locations of Mumbai [Abhishek makes a special appearance in the movie]. That's one of the reasons why the release has been pushed ahead by two weeks.
"We need time to promote these songs. Besides, I don't want to hurry up on its post-production," director Apoorva Lakhia confirms. Sajid Nadiadwala is all set to roll his next magnum opus to be directed by newbie Sabir Khan in Los Angeles. Pre-production work is starting next week in LA for which Sajid's making a trip to Hollywood. Apparently, the producer has a few surprises up his sleeve. Nadiadwala is all set to go international with Kambakth Ishq. Sajid has managed a casting coup in Kambakth Ishq. It is learnt that Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone has agreed to play a role in the film. Sylvester will be acting as himself in the movie. And that is not all, for the first time in Indian history, the shooting will take place inside the Universal Studio. The film stars the super hit pair of Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. Akshay plays a Hollywood stuntman in the film. Hence, Sylvester Stallone's inclusion. The expected budget of the movie so far is Rs. 90 Crores. Kambakth Ishq will be the biggest movie and investment made ever.
Sajid Nadiadwala when contacted confirmed the development. "Yes, we have signed Sylvester Stallone to be a part of Kambakth Ishq. We have a certain vision for our production house Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. Since Kambakth Ishq is based in Hollywood... it made perfect sense to appoint casting agents in Hollywood and cast mainstream Hollywood stars. This film is one of our most ambitious ventures to date and we didn't want to leave any stone unturned."
"I have been working on the script for a long time now, and it's an exciting merging of
Hollywood and Indian cinema. So, for me, it's like a dream come true and I have the best producer anyone can ask for. He is making even the impossible possible for me," says Sabir Khan, who will be making his directorial debut with this film.
After Kambakht Ishq, Sajid's production house rolls moves on to an animated version of the Salman Khan's hit Judwaa for which Salman will dub for shortly; followed by a film with Siddharth Anand. Reportedly, the film is supposed to star Saif Ali Khan and Ranbir Kapoor. Immediately after that, the next project to go on floors will be Sajid Khan's second film, again starring Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Riteish Deshmukh and three more top actors. The film is titled Housefull. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 16 Jun 2008 | 3:41 pm

The keenly awaited Snoop Dogg-RDB number for Singh Is Kinng has been recorded at last and will form a part of the film's soundtrack when it releases.
At present, there are plans to shoot the video in Los Angeles, where Akshay is headed for another film shoot. Both Akki and Katrina haven't stopped raving about the track!
Remarks the Kumar, "The song is mind-blowing. I made a few friends listen to it and they haven't stopped gushing about it. I am confident that just like the rest of the soundtrack this will go on to become a major chartbuster."
Katrina seconds Akki's sentiments. "I've heard it and it's outstanding. If I'm right, it's the first real hip-hop song in a Hindi movie. I know that girls are supposed to be an integral part of hip-hop videos but I don't know whether there will be place for me in this video!" she laughs.
"It's very male-dominated and I don't want to be a prop. With Akshay and Snoop, it will rock anyway!" she adds.
Meanwhile, the title track of the film, rendered by Neeraj Shridhar and composed by Pritam, is likely to go on television later this week. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 16 Jun 2008 | 1:53 pm
