"Blogging sounds like something naughty…"

Although the Big B has made blogging into something of a national rage, not everyone in Bollywood is into it. Ram Gopal Varma is certainly not Blogging. "I don't know how or where this whole rumour of my blogging started. I didn't deny it because blogging sounds like something really naughty. I played along because it sounded like a fun thing to do." Chuckling at his own cleverness Ramu says, "The fact is, I'm completely net illiterate. I don't even know how to put on the computer or type into it, let alone write in a blog. I see no need to interact with people on a daily basis." Regarding the cancellation of the mock-rally for the Sarkar Raj event, Ramu says, "T Series and I were supposed to have this public function for the release of the film's music. But now it's cancelled. There will be no music-release function."

Shah Rukh Khan's cameo disasters

One shining bright face, which has been the eternal darling in the world of advertisements, movies, reality shows, and lately cricket as well, is undoubtedly that of the Bollywood Baadshah, Shah Rukh Khan, who has already taken entertainment to the next level altogether! It has been time and again proven that he is indeed a Midas Touch man who pumps gold out of everything and anything he lays his hands on! But if you feel that he is Mr. Everything who can do no wrong, then, think again, as even the Moon has got a black spot, and SRK is a human after all! It's true that SRK, the one-man army, whose mere name presence, guarantees a film to be a superhit even before its release. After all, they do not call him the King Khan or the Baadshah of Bollywood for nothing! But what is strange is that the films in which SRK has the main lead, have been mega hits, whereas the films in which he has done cameos, had the Box Office turning its back on. Simply put, his cameo appearance-movies have always bit the dust. Here's presenting the 'Bestimonials', we mean, the 'Best of Testimonials' which stand proof to the above statement. SRK did his first cameo appearance in Dushman Duniya Ka, which was directed by the late Mehmood. The film was about the protagonist Lucky and his drug addiction habit, which was penned in the hilarious and tragic way but the film refused to jingle at the ticket windows and went hugely unnoticed, despite the fact that it had the 'Mega Star of the Box Office'. SRK's other cameo appearances in films like Gudgudee (1997) and Gaja Gamini (2000) were also a major letdown. Next in line was the Samar Khan directed Kuch Meetha Ho Jaaye starring Arshad Warsi, Mahima Choudhary, and Shah Rukh Khan in a Special Appearance. The film revolved around an airport. But again, Shah Rukh Khan's presence couldn't prevent the salvo's misfiring. Shakti - The Power, a Sridevi and Boney Kapoor's production, that was directed by Krishna Vamsi, showed a one-woman-army, Karisma Kapoor's, fight to get her son back. The makers might have sensed that the film had too much of violence. Hence, SRK was brought in the picture to add some humor. He played a local Bihari boy who helps Karisma reach her destination and protects her from the goons. But of course, the biggest highlight of the film was SRK's performance on the track 'Ishq Kamina'. The song also had a special appearance by the ever gorgeous Aishwarya Rai as an item girl. Unfortunately, the film was a disaster at the Box Office. The other one in the Cameo-flops list include Kaal, in which SRK did a first 'Item Number' with the original oomph-mati Malaika Arora Khan, before doing 'Dard-e-Disco' and 'Break Free'. Even though the song was a huge hit with sleek picturization, the film failed to click with the audiences. These back-2-back cameo debacles don't end just here. SRK was seen in Hunky Arjun Rampal's home production I See You, in which he was seen playing the guitar whereas Hrithik Roshan doing his favorite dance stint, which has also refused to smile at the box office. And last but not the least, who can forget the major fiasco of the recent times, which was called as Krazzy 4, a film that was hyped to the core, piggy banking on SRK's item number! The film also had the super clash of the titans SRK V/s the Hrithik Roshan, both of whom danced to the same track. If that was not enough, it also had the 'Item Queen' Rakhi Sawant. Sad but true, none of the three pillars could manage to help the film stand firm at the Box-Office! So, is it that SRK's luck doesn't favor his cameo appearances? The answer to this question remains a mystery. Though SRK's cameo roles haven't been able rub the magic on the films, he has always been a striver and not concerned with what will be the outcome of it. So, keep going Khan and best of luck for Bhoothnath.

Prachi Desai to play one of the female leads in Life Partner

By now its common knowledge that TV actress Prachi Desai (of Kasamh Se fame) is all set to make her Bollywood debut opposite Farhan Akhtar in Rock On. However, even before her debut film hits the screens; Prachi has already bagged her next film. The buzz has it that Prachi has been signed as one of the female leads in Abbas-Mustan’s home production Life Partner. The film which stars Fardeen Khan, Govinda, Tusshar Kapoor and Genelia D’Souza is directed by Rumi Jaffrey. Bollywood Hungama spoke with Prachi to confirm this piece of news. “Yes, I have signed the film but it’s too early to talk about it. I can’t reveal many details about Life Partner. All I can say is that when I heard the script, I loved it and am happy that I am a part of it,” signed off the bubbly actress. With two big banner films on hand, looks like Prachi is all set to kick-start her Bollywood career with a bang.

Subhash K Jha speaks about Bhoothnath

There are many virtues to being innocent. A cherubic adorable ten-year boy old gets to frolic on the unspoilt beaches of Goa without the fear of a Scarlett Keeling happening to him. Bhoothnath is that rare Goan film where you don't see single bikini-clad babe stealing into sight with dubious intentions. The songs are colourful, yes. But they are done with the devilish delight of a rock concert rather than the calculated manoeuvres of choreographic manipulation. Indeed debutant director Vivek Sharma harks back to an artless innocence that recalls the most cherished memories from one's childhood about a thankless son and benign ghost who come to life in a shimmering clasp of cute discontent. The film's most delectable aspect is the rapport that grows between the Ghost-dost and the fearless little boy who comes to live in the dead man's Goan mansion, takes on the ghost and even gets the better of him. Both Bachchan and the boy have a ball. So do we, in portions. The film's best scenes feature the benign ghost Bachchan with the incredibly confident and polished Aman Siddiqui. The pair just takes over the screen and makes you forget the narrative's all-too-apparent flaws. There're plot-holes large enough to make Bhoothnath an uneasy bumpy ride. Big B and Little Aman make you smile as they frolic, sing banter and yes, deliver some really heartwarming homilies on the quality of existence. Of late Mr Bachchan has been repeatedly seen in interactive situations with little kids. After Ayesha Kapoor in Black, Rucha Vaidya in Ek Ajnabee and Sweeni Khare in Cheeni Kum, he brings a sense of cross-generation harmony with another acutely cute and young co-star. Frankly, his rapport with Aman Siddiqui in Bhoothnath is far more chilled out. While the kids in the other three films were to one degree or another, traumatized Aman plays a normal bratty but sensitive kid, yet another addition to the growing brood of brilliant brats in Bollywood after Darsheel Safary in Taare Zameen Par. The director lets the child be. He imposes no adult perceptions on him. The narration consequently carries an air of old-world naiveté to the end. There are no breaks for romantic songs, item numbers and other modern-day quirks and compromises. Bhoothnath glides forward with the unconscious skill of a little boat in a tranquil lake which knows where it wants to go without creating any stress within the pace of the grace. And what would Bhoothnath be without the Bachchan, sportingly sharing the lines, visuals songs and drama with a child who gives him tit for tat, and more? The rapport between the wandering spirit and the spirited kid could've fallen apart were it not for the cool camaraderie between the two 'men' one unschooled in acting therefore totally spontaneous, the other so skilled and schooled he readily redefines the cult of the cool. The duo apart, the other characters are to varying degrees, largely sketchy. Rajpal Yadav with shoe-polish on his face plays one of those Goan Michael-daroo-peeta-hai stereotypes that you thought had gone with the 'wink'. Priyanshu Chatterjee as the dead spirit's ungrateful son struggles to give substance to an under- written role. His character brings into play the age-old conflict between old-world values where a home was considered much more than financial asset, and the new generation which thinks property is easily fundable. The producers (BR and Ravi Copra) known for their message movies, couldn't let go the chance to make a social statement. And why not? Juhi Chawla as the flustered mom is sweet and angelic. But unable to add anything to the drama beyond a point. Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan in a guest appearance clearly tries to improvise on the badly-written dialogues mainly in scenes where he pokes fun at his screen-wife's cooking. Ah yes, Shah Rukh and Juhi continue to share a quaint if not a crackling chemistry. But the chemistry here is clearly between the 65-year old never-say-die spirit and the child who knows he's up against a formidable adversary. Or maybe he doesn't. Sometimes the motivations underlying spontaneity can be the very opposite of fear. Bhoothnath tells us ghosts are not scary. They can be fun. At the end of the blithe film, we believe the director. If not in his beliefs about ghosts.
