Mimoh, a proud son of legendary Mithun Chakraborty, is all geared up to prove his acting prowess in his forthcoming debut film, Jimmy. Not many know that his real name is Mahakshay, but Mithun being a die-hard fan of Michael Jackson and Mohammad Ali, also named his son Mimoh, which is a combination of these two names. Apart from Jimmy, Hamilton Palace and Loot are some of his films lined up for the release this year.
Bollywood Hungama brings you an exclusive interview with Mimoh where he shares his experience about working in his debut venture, Jimmy, releasing this Friday (May 9).
Are you nervous or excited for the release of your film?
Honestly, I can't explain how I am feelingâ¦it's beyond any expression. Well, if I have to put into one word, I am scared as to how people would react to my performance in the film. Expectations being a star's son tend to touch the sky and I hope to live up to them.
Tell us what Jimmy is all about?
Jimmy is a thriller, which revolves around the protagonist named Jimmy, played by me. Jimmy is a perfectionist and a workaholic who has no complaints from both his personal and professional life. I work as a driver during the day and DJ in the night. However, with the twists and turns in the story, nothing seems as it is supposed to. What happens next is what Jimmy is all about.
The feeling of independence is very satisfying and to know that your hard work is paid off well gives you the kick to work more hard.
Hmmmâ¦workaholic! You seem to be the same way in real life too; two more films of yours are lined up for the release this year. What's the secret behind this energy?
It's give me immense satisfaction and pleasure to be a part of the film fraternity and I love to work round the clock, I feel I have become addicted to it now. As a beginner, I would like to experiment and give my hundred percent if I have to prove myself. Acting has become a passion now and trust me, I can't think beyond that. I am not doing films out of compulsion, I love my work and enjoy every bit of it so factors like energy, stamina eventually fall in place with the regular workouts I do. Moreover, my work makes me self-sufficientâ¦no more asking pocket money from Dad. The feeling of independence is very satisfying and to know that your hard work is paid off well gives you the kick to work harder.
And all your films have been thrillersâ¦why this inclination towards this particular genre?
There is no special inclination towards any particular genre. I believe newcomers should not be choosy about their work. All my films be it Hamilton Palace, Loot or Jimmy, despite being thrillers will display me in three different characters. Call it a pure coincidence (smiles); I signed them because of their strong script, which coincidently happened to be thrillers.
How has the experience of facing the camera been so far?
Honestly, I have never been so scared in my lifeâ¦you won't believe I was trembling on the very first day of my shoot. Just the thought of facing the camera would make me shiverâ¦it was a dance sequence and I was completely petrified. But to my surprise, I did it in one take and was so thrilled. And things eventually fell in place thereafter.
Do you a get apprehensive about the comparisons between you and your father Mithun Chakraborty, which are bound to happen? What's your take on him?
I like to see the other side of the coin. Comparisons between my father and me, I believe is the USP of the film because audience will be keen to know how different Mithun Chakraborty's son is from him. However, can't neglect the one side as well (laughs) which gives me nightmares as to what would be the audience reaction to my film and my performance as well. And as far as my Dad is concerned, he is a legend himselfâ¦I normally fall short of words when I have to explain him. He has gone through a lot and still is going through. He keeps on pepping me up saying, âSon, prepare for the worst and hope for the best.â My father means everything to me and I hope I live up to his expectations. I have learnt a lot from himâ¦I think he is one of the very few actors who climbed the ladders of success with the originality factor and I try my level best to follow his steps. And today, my father as an actor has reached new heights and I feel proud to say that he has surpassed himself and this is biggest compliment I have ever given him.
Just the thought of facing the camera would make me shiverâ¦
How was the experience working with veteran actor Shakti Kapoor?
To tell you the truth; Shaktiji was more than nice to me. He was so encouraging on the sets. I am an introvert person and don't jell with people easily. Apart from the fear of my performance, the thought of mixing up with my co-stars was something, which was giving me nightmares. However, I was more than happy to have people like Shakti Kapoor in Jimmy and Sunil Shetty in Loot because they treated me not only like co-star but also went out of their way to take care of me and make sure that I am comfortable. Sunil is a gem of a person. Not just on the sets but he would give me fitness tips in the gym.
Apart from the fear of my performance, the thought of mixing up with my co-stars was something, which was giving me nightmares.
How is the music of the film? Which is your favourite track?
Jimmy has a very situational music something, which is not put forcefully to add the style and melody elements to the film. At the same time, I feel it's really good. 'Marhabba' is my favourite track in the film, which took 40 days to be completed and took about 6 hours daily.
What is the USP of the film? Are you satisfied with the way the film has shaped up?
USP is, as I told you earlier the audiences' curiosity to know what Mithun Chakraborty's son can do and how good or bad he is. Secondly, the story, which is the soul of the film. And, I am more than satisfied with Jimmy and hope it works well at the box-office.
Share some memorable moments with us during the shoot of the film?
I can't pin point any oneâ¦the entire shoot was a memorable experience. I remember I had hurt myself during the shoot of the film while doing one stuntâ¦and everyone was so supportive that despite all the pain I managed to give my best. However, the most memorable was the day when I received my first paycheck and I bought things for my family members. That was most touching moment of my life. "Should the Health Minister have gone ahead and made the statement that 'Ok, go ahead and drink, it is good for health'", questions Gul Panag in a mocking tone. Reason? She is amused by the news floating around the town regarding a proposed ban on on-screen drinking by the Health Minister.
"Has he floated a press release stating that Health Ministry is seriously contemplating an action in this direction? So often words are quoted out of context. I am sure these remarks too were made in a different context and they were probably in response to a cleverly worded question. It's all hilarious because I sincerely believe that they are being quoted out of context to create controversy."
While majority of industry is coming forward and reacting to Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss' supposed proposal, Gul refuses to bite the bait.
"But it's all so hypothetical", defends Gul, "You are in a public gathering and some reporter asks you a question on what he thinks about stars drinking on screen. Of course as a Health Minister, you can't turn away from a question like this and are required to talk about its ill effects."
"If tomorrow someone asks me a question around Sanjay Dutt and Maanyata marriage, even I would say that they should abide by law. It's a different matter that my quote may appear in a different context altogether", reasons Gul who would soon be seen in Summer of 2007, "I don't see Ramadoss or for that matter any other democratic MP at his position making a blanket statement in a public gathering without any rhyme or reason."
Does this mean that she confident that it is an out of context controversy which is being created? "I am 100% confident about it. I don't think he has time to take on Shah Rukh Khan. Everyone is busy in their lives and I know for sure that no one wants unpleasantness. This is why I refuse to give credence to such statements."
In any case what is her take on drinking? What does she personally feel about drinking?
"Come on, we are all grown ups", says Gul, "People can do what they want and in a democratic country like ours, I don't see someone stopping me from doing what I want. As long as I am drinking in my close circle and neither endangering public property nor driving on the road and killing people, it is all fine." Prakash Jha's next directorial venture Rajniti is going to be the most expensive film he as ever produced. In it he blends contemporary Indian politics with chapters from the Mahabharat in a mix that promises to be the avant-garde director's headiest yet.
And Prakash has accumulated a formidable cast of actors. "There's Ajay Devgan who will play a modern-day Karn. And believe it or not, Nana Patekar who was fantastic as the corrupt politician in Apharan, has been cast as Krishna!"
Also in the cast are Viveik Oberoi and Manoj Bajpai in pivotal roles. "These are actors I've not worked with before. I'm looking forward to directing them. Ajay and Nana are old friends. We share a fantastic comfort level." In fact recently, Marathi Manoos Nana and Bihari Bhai Prakash took part in a passionate debate on the oust-Biharis-from-Maharashtra campaign on NDTV.
After the debate Raj Thackeray apparently rang up Prakash for presenting a balanced view. Says Prakash, "Raj is a friend and an intelligent educated man. I truly believe artistes need to rise above politics. I make cinema on politics. But I'd never be part of it. Likewise, Nana who was so stunning as a wily politician in Apharan, will I'm sure be equally adept playing Krishna in my Rajniti"
The character of Arjun as conceived by Prakash, modernizes the mythological elements from the Mahabharat to include elements from Rajiv Gandhi's life. For this role, Prakash has already zeroed down on the latest Bollywood heartthrob, Ranbir Kapoor.
Rajiniti won't be the first contemporary take on the Mahabharat. Three decades ago Shyam Benegal attempted to incorporate elements from the Mahabharat into contemporary entrepreneurship in the film Kalyug. Now, Prakash Jha will blend mythology into Indian politics.
Interestingly, earlier he wanted to film just the Draupadi section of the Mahabharat with Madhuri Dixit in the lead. He shelved the idea when he heard other filmmakers were barking up the same tree. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 8 May 2008 | 9:39 am

If you thought that there is no connection between football and sweets, then, it only means that the name Vivek Agnihotri will surely not ring a bell to you. For starters, Vivek is one of the few âintellectualâ directors who has made it all on his own without having any proverbial Godfathers in Bollywood.
He is also the man who gave the cinegoers its very own sweet treat in the form of Chocolate and who also scored an ace with his Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal. The news is that this man is back with a biggie. Informs a reliable source, âVivekâs next will be of a biopic genre, which means it will be a biography and an epic combined together. The film will deal in tracing Indiaâs journey in the last 30 years.â
It is also learnt that this film is being produced by one of the biggest corporate houses in the industry today. He will be making it official soon.
Vivek is currently busy with the casting of the film. The ensemble of the film will not only be from Bollywood, but will also have the best of the talents from all across the country.
So what happens to the film that Vivek had planned on the issue of Global Warming? âWell, that film is on the backburner for now and will happen only after this project.â
After Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, Vivek is surely planning to return with a bang. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 May 2008 | 3:29 pm
After having played numerous characters in his illustrious career, actor Govinda is all set to play a Bengali baabu in Aditya Datt's romantic comedy Chai Garam.
Bollywood Hungama spoke to the young director to get some more dope on the film, âChai Garam is a romantic comedy starring Govinda, Esha Deol, Celina Jaitley, Sunil Shetty, Raima Sen, Javed Jaffrey, Rajpal Yadav, Ravi Kissen and Anupam Kher. The film is not about tea (chai) per se. The basic thought of the film started from the theory of Seven degrees of separation. It's about how we are all connected by knowing someone who in turn knows someone and all that jazz. But what is common to each of the characters is tea (chai),â says Aditya.
But why the title Chai Garam? âTea is an integral part of everyone's life. Be it any occasion, when you are happy you have a cup of tea, when you are sad you have a cup of tea. Be it a business meeting or just a date with your loved one, a cup of tea is always an important part of our lives. So it's a light film about how these various characters get connected with one another,â says the director who has directed films like Aashiq Banaya Aapne and Dil Diya Hai in the past.
So, how has been the experience of working with one of the best comic actors-Govinda? âThe experience has been simply superb. Govinda plays a Bengali character in the film, who is a creative head in an ad agency. We have just started shooting but I must say that he is one of the best performers I have seen in front of the camera,â says the excited director.
Chai Garam is produced by Shreyas Creations and has music composed by different music directors like Anand Raj Anand, Shamir Tandon, Sanjay Pathak etc.
On a parting note we also quizzed him about the status of his other film Goodluck starring Aryeman, Sayali Bhagat and Ranvir Shorey. âThe first copy of Goodluck is due in a week's time. The theatrical promos were first seen with Jab We Met last year since the producers wanted it that way but we got stuck in post-production with the DI and color enhancing etc. The promos of Goodluck should be out by early next month. We plan to release the film by July end or Augustâ signs off Aditya. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 7 May 2008 | 2:54 pm

THE FILM
Does it suffice to have just a good story idea? Is it enough to have a bunch of seasoned actors performing their best with a newcomer ensuring that he does well to enact his character well? Can a director be content with packaging his film with some well narrated scenes that do succeed in entertaining the audience at number of places?
Answer to all the questions as above is - 'Not Really'!
That's because apart from a good story, decent execution and competent act, a film is also required to tell the audience what it is all about! And in current times, this has to happen 'before' the release of the film rather than 'after' it!
This is precisely THE area where My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves suffered the most i.e. letting the audience know what story it is trying to tell. To put it brutally, the film suffered in a major way since the right message was never conveyed. One set of promos indicated that the film could be a comedy, second featured on the escapades of Anthony, third gave a hint of an underworld saga in the offering and the worst of all, the film's title didn't convey anything at all!
E Niwas is in full form in sequences depicting the lives of gangsters and what goes behind the curtains. He refrains from blood shed but succeeds in letting his audience know about the inner turmoil of Anthony and the people around him - Pawan Malhotra (excellent once again after Black Friday), Mukesh Tiwari (reliable as ever, though in a short role), Daya Shanker Pandey (decent) and Anupam Kher (Tezaab revisited). Javed Sheikh as a cop on the trail of his colleague's murderers is excellent in a couple of powerful scenes he gets and one wonders why isn't he seen more in Hindi cinema?
However, it is a rather below average climax of the film which kills the impact created 40-50 minutes prior to that. It is so predictable and so hurriedly shot that it appears E Niwas wanted to somehow bring the film to an end. Frankly, the kind of build up till the climax deserved a better culmination to the plot but an overall 'filmy' approach leads to disappointment. Also, the sequences where Anthony is shown to be struggling in his endeavor to be an actor are a big yawn. Neither does his interaction with Amrita Rao (who plays an Assistant Director) works nor do his supposedly comic sequences with his drunkard friend (D Santosh).
Coming to the film's strength, the basic premise of reel life Julius Ceaser story (Anthony is short listed as a hero for a film adapted from Julius Ceaser) integrated with the real life acquaintances of Anthony, is narrated quite well. In incompetent hands it must have become confusing but those who are even slightly familiar with Shakespeare's classic would be able to draw parallels. In fact, this is what works in favor of the graph of My Name is Anthony Gonsalves constantly going up in spite of a rather slow and 'where are we actually heading for' kind of a start.
PACKAGING
The film comes in a standard local plastic case with an ordinary 70s style cover layout. Since the DVD comes on Moser Baer, don't expect any fancy packaging.

TECHNICAL DETAILS
- My Name is Anthony Gonsalves is one of those rare films which does not come in a 16:9 Anamorphic Widescreen Presentation. In layman terms, the film comes in a regular format (with thick top and bottom stripes) which is associated with VCD format. Call it a coincidence but Amrita Rao's Vivah had arrived in a similar format as well.

PRICE
Rs. 49/=
CONCLUSION
Frankly speaking, after watching the film one feels sorry for debutant Nikhil Dwivedi and director E Niwas since the film is not a bad watch at all. Even though it qualifies as one of the Top-3 biggest failures of 2008 so far, it is far from being one of the worst films that we have seen this year. Of course, it is not a flawless film by any means but it does have its moments, especially the ones where the underworld angle comes in. A decent one time watch which can be switched off 10 minutes before the end credits start rolling!
