Both writers do tell us that Jennifer Hudson’s role as Louise, Carrie’s assistant, is bigger than we expected. And also, apparently Carrie has written three more books, like her real-life alter ego Candace Bushnell. Even America’s current economic woes are addressed, and the changes that the city has undergone. But who cares about all of that. If you can’t spoil it, can you at least tell us whether we are going to like it?
“Just like any great night out with best friends, Sex and the City: The Movie is awash with so much love that it lingers long after the last cocktail runs dry,” Bertram tells us enigmatically, giving it four stars. “Women wept, cheered. It’s the Neiman Marcus catalog on steroids,” Friedman said of the screening where he saw it. “The four female stars — not to mention Chris Noth as Mr. Big, David Eigenberg as Steve, and Evan Handler as Harry — are the most appealing ensemble of the year.”
Will you respect us less if we admit we’re kind of excited?

Do It Yourself: This weekend at San Francisco's Maker Faire, Lee David Zlotoff announced his intention to develop a big-budget MacGyver movie. Zlotoff created the series and claims he ended up with the movie rights, which sounds a little dodgy. Zlotoff will begin shooting soon using a camera made of a staple gun, a clove of garlic, and a pair of bifocals. [Gizmodo]
Lil Patriot: Lil Wayne will star in the Weinstein Company's Patriots, joining Forest Whitaker and Bow Wow. True story follows high-school basketball players from five different schools who are united as one team after Hurricane Katrina, and then they reach the state championships. Seriously? Just summarizing this made us cry. [Billboard]
Rudin Wants More Fun: Scott Rudin and Disney have hired John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to rewrite Hours of Fun, the story of two childhood friends who bought novelty toys from the back pages of comic books, and now 30 years later the toys start living up to their crazy advertising claims. We salute Daley, who seems like the only Freaks and Geeks alum to brave a career in Hollywood without juicing from the steroids of the Judd Apatow Comedy Complex. [HR]
Warner Digging Ditch: Warner Bros. has picked up The Ditch, a sci-fi action spec from music-video producer Sascha Penn (Dave Chappelle's Block Party). Story is set in the future, where one of Jupiter's moons has become a maximum-security prison for Earth's most dangerous criminals. When a prison guard's family is taken hostage, he must help a terrorist escape. We're left wondering why anyone would bother spending millions of dollars to set this on another planet in the future, but that's why nobody's paying us to be studio execs. [Variety]

"He liked to hear the details of the sexual behavior of stars with whom I'd had sex," Mallory says. "Norman was turned on by hearing about my sexual encounters with movie stars . . . hearing about my sexcapades gave him great pleasure." She claims to have dated Warren Beatty, Rod Stewart, Robert De Niro, Richard Gere and Peter Sellers.
Oh God, there really is going to be a sex movie, isn't there?

“Murdoch’s papers are known for their great editorial cartooning,” said Rex Babin, the editorial cartoonist for The Sacramento Bee. Mr. Babin noted that Pepper’s targets — the foibles of offices and other institutional oddities of American life — were not distinctly editorial in nature, and The Journal page might benefit from an actual conservative editorial cartoonist, as opposed to a feature cartoon whose spiritual sibling is The New Yorker.

Death:
It is either the seriousness [SATC writer Michael Patrick] King displayed in the final seasons of “Sex and the City” or a general sense of bleakness among his fans that has led some to speculate that he might have a taste for a particularly morose strain of melodrama. “You don’t know how many people came up to me when I was making the movie and said, ‘So is somebody going to die?’ ” he said. “Yup. Happy summer. Thanks for your $10. Enjoy your Diet Coke. Someone’s going to die. Like that’s what I’m going to do.”
Wedding:
While the film revolves around Carrie and Big’s wedding, Mr. King was insistent that no mother or father of the bride be shown. “My idea always was that these women were purely creations of New York,” he said. “The prototype of the series is that these are four grown-ups who make a family of one another.”
Also driving Mr. King’s decision was his fear of falling into cliché. “Who was going to play Carrie’s mother? Connie Stevens? It’s such a traditional sitcom limb. It’s the Thanksgiving episode, and there are Wilford Brimley and Elaine Stritch. I never wanted to do anything like that.”
Mr. King: Please rest assured that if you killed off one or, better yet, more than one of the Sex And The City characters, many peoples' Diet Cokes would taste even sweeter and they would no longer feel their $10 was totally wasted.
