Percept Picture Company and T -Series hosted a party for unveiling the first look of Nagesh Kukunoor's forthcoming film Aashayein in Mumbai yesterday. While the film's lead star John Abraham couldn't make it (as he is busy shooting in Miami) everyone was quite surprised to see John's parents (Abraham John and Phiroza Abraham) making their presence felt at the event. It was quite an emotional moment for his parents and they said that they had a special bond with the title of the film and the word 'Hope'.
Abraham John, John's father said, "My father, (John's grand father) was a great believer of Hope and throughout his life, he believed and preached that even at the darkest of moments of life, there is always a ray of hope. Even when he was 95 years old, he kept preaching everyone to see life as a bright star and not as a burden". John's father also added that he was extremely proud of the kind of films director Nagesh Kukunoor makes.
Immediately after seeing the first look of the film, John's parents called him in Miami and had a teary eyed conversation about how good Aashayein looked and how proud they are of him. Even John Abraham was surprised to know that his parents had attended the function on Nagesh Kukunoor's behest.
The cast and crew of the film Aashayein including actors Farida Jalal, Sonal Sehgal, Anahita Nair, music director duo Salim Sulaiman , Elahe Hiptoola, Divya Khosla Kumar, Shailendra Singh of Percept and director Nagesh Kukunoor were in attendance at this memorable event. After making quite a smashing acting debut last year with Aap Kaa Surroor - The Moviee, apna very own Himesh bhai is all set to entertain his fans with many more films this year too. While the Satish Kaushik directed Karzzzz (a remake of the original classic) is already being talked about, yet another Himesh starrer had its muhurat yesterday (April 29).
We are talking about Bhushan Kumar's Kajraare directed by Pooja Bhatt. The film which stars Himesh along with new find Monalaizza had its muhurat at Mumbai's Film City in what could be best described as a simple and homely affair. Veteran filmmaker Johny Bakshi sounded the clapper board while Mahesh Bhatt was there to boost the morale of daughter director Pooja Bhatt's team. Creative director Divya Khosla Kumar started the camera while Tulsi Kumar and music director-hero Himesh Reshammiya were discussing the intricacies of the number which Tulsi Kumar is rendering in Kajraare. As seen in the picture, Divya Khosla Kumar, Himesh and Tulsi Kumar also took the blessings of late Shri.Gulshan Kumar who started the T-series Empire.
Speaking on the occasion, Divya Khosla Kumar said, "The film has tremendous potential and the beginning has been made with the muhurat." Even director Pooja Bhatt seemed excited, "I wanted to go commercial with a vengeance after Paap and what would be a better combination than a musical with Himesh Reshammiya and Bhushan Kumar's T-series! I have gone commercial with Kajraare, but at the same time, it is definitely a story with a heart."
Well let's hope this story with a heart finds a place in people's hearts when it finally releases. Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 30 Apr 2008 | 1:30 pm
First look of Hijack is out and the point it has managed to make loud and clear is that director Kunal Shivdasani certainly knows his job. With a Hollywood feel to the flick, as promised by the young filmmaker even before the teaser was made public, Hijack is next in the line of action films this year after Race and Tashan.
One thing which stands out in this Shiney Ahuja and Esha Deol starrer is the film's theme itself which is centered on a plane hijack. Shiney's mission is to rescue passengers on board an aircraft which has his own daughter amidst dozens of other passengers kept hostage by terrorists.
Doesn't the film's plot come close to that of Rohit Shetty's Zameen [Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu] or Kuku Kohli's Yeh Dil Aashiqana [Karan Nath, Aditya Panscholi, Jeevidha]? Incidentally, both these films also had a hijack forming a major part of the narrative with the hero rescuing people close to him. Has Kunal Shivdasani also treaded a similar path?
Says the first time filmmaker with a smile, "I haven't seen Yeh Dil Aashiqana so I can't comment much about its plot. On the other hand Zameen in my opinion was a film which had all around 'masala' ingredients to it. There were elements of politics, 'chor-police', love story, patriotism - just about everything plugged into the narrative."
Talking about Hijack, Kunal goes on to add, "On the other hand, my film is based on the only plot which runs from start to finish i.e. a 'hijack'. There are no tangential references to anything else whatsoever and also we are not telling a good v/s bad tale or an honest man v/s terrorist drama. This is why you would observe that even the film's teaser throughout concentrates only on an aircraft and what happens when it is hijacked."
"I have always maintained that Hijack is on the lines of Die Hard series where there is a problem to be solved and that too in quick time without beating the bush. Here too, we are not deviating from the basic plot and what you would end up watching is a crisp two hour tale with some never seen before stunts and a twist arriving before you actually see it coming", says Kunal, the man behind hundreds of commercials, confidently.
Well, with action man Allan Amin behind the spectacular stunts choreographed for the film, one has to nod in agreement. Produced by Kunal himself along with Dinesh Vijan (the man behind Being Cyrus), Hijack which is being presented by Eros Entertainment is looking at a May/June release. Not too many people know this but when Anupam Kher came to Mumbai from Simla, there was one journalist whom he idolized. "And that was Behram Contractor, better know as Busybee. I'd read his columns in Simla and marvel at the way he'd describe the minutest topographical details. In his interviews, the environment truly defined the personalities. Such journalism is, I'm afraid, becoming obsolete. Like other forms of entertainment interviews and columns are all about instant gratification."
On Wednesday evening, Anupam got a chance to pay a tribute to Busybee. "I've been asked by his wife Farzana to read excerpts from a new anthology of his articles Best Of Busybee. All I can say is that it's an honour. She was aware of my admiration for her husband and asked me to read out his prose," says Anupam who would've been a journalist if he wasn't an actor. "The closest I come to writing is through the syndicated news service Bollywood News Service which I started last year. I also plan to write my memoirs shortly." The ad maverick Balki's first feature film Cheeni Kum made a dynamic dent in audience's minds. It also made him a lifelong Amitabh Bachchan fan. Having gotten masterly performances out of Tabu and the Big B in Cheeni Kum, you'd expect him to recreate the same magic in his next feature film.
But no. Balki is on to a different route for his second film. His next film entitled Pa which begins at the end of the year features real-life father-son Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan. And no Tabu! This, in spite of her brilliant performance. "But that's because Pa has no room for Tabu at all. This time the story is a father-son one. Amitabh has no love interest in the film. And sorry about that. Abhishek does have a girl though." And for the first time Junior is being paired with the petite and lately out-of-sight Vidya Balan.
Says Balki, "We've already approached Vidya and she's more-or-less agreed. I can see her as a pair with Abhishek, can't you?" Vidya comes into the picture through her sister Priya who works with Balki at Lintas. "In fact, it's Priya I know well. I got to know Vidya only when we started talking for Pa," says Balki.
After repeated pairing with Preity, Rani and Priyanka, Abhishek is on the look-out for fresh collaborative opportunities. Vidya Balan is someone the Bachchans have admired from the time the Big B saw her in Parineeta and then worked with her in Eklavya. The Big B had compared Vidya with his favourite actress Waheeda Rehman. Both father and son adore Waheedaji.
So is Balki looking at the prospect of directing a new pair? "I don't look at it that way. Vidya suits the role. I've known her from her ad days. Though we haven't done any ad together, she has done ads for my company Lintas."
One questions remains. Why don't encore- projects happen with Tabu even after powerhouse performances the first time? Madhur Bhandarkar's Chandni Bar and Balki's Cheeni Kum led to no second project. In fact the only directors whom Tabu has worked with more than once are Priyadarshan and Gulzar. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 30 Apr 2008 | 10:22 am

The gargantuan night of glamour took place at the Excel Docklands in London last Saturday. The night when the stars dropped from their limos in their most attention-getting outfits, tasteful or not, (we all know there is no such thing as bad publicity). I often snickered at the flattering costumes. I often groaned as the stars prattled on endlessly during their thank you speeches. I cringed in anticipation of the musical acts - will they be impressive or a snooze? But love it or hate it, like thousands of other Indians, I was glued to my seat that night watching the Zee Cine Awards 2008...live!
So as most of the public was eagerly awaiting the arrival of their favourite Bollywood star inside the arena, I was impatiently waiting for them to first arrive on the mere 5 meter red carpet kept only to make us media feel that it was a grand red-carpet event. The few first ones to arrive were designer Manish Malhotra & model Nina Manuel who respectively played hosts on the red carpet for channel ETC and Zee After Hours. Come 6.30 pm, BMW's, Mercedes, Bentley's, Chryslers piled up one behind the other to bring in some of Bollywood's well-known faces. Like the lovey-dovey couple Saif Ali Khan who looked like a true Nawab in his white blazer with yellow embroidered collar on his blue jean along with his girlfriend Kareena Kapoor wearing a dark brown dress and looking quite tanned (they've just popped in to London from their vacation in Maldives). The entire Kapoor family walked the red carpet from Randhir, Rishi, Neetu and Chimpoo Kapoor to Ranbir Kapoor in a trademark London style outfit wearing a pink jumper on his black suit. Also hand in hand walked the hot contender honewali Kapoor bahu Deepika Padukone in her beautiful long black outfit. Neil Nitin Mukesh who was accompanied by his father Nitin Mukesh and his mother looked desperate to win an award...and why not? Karishma Kapoor walked in with her Polo obsessed husband Sanjay Kapur, and when asked him whether he has any plans to make it even bigger in Bollywood by showing his acting skills, he said "Yes" and after a long pause uttered "No". So what exactly is your answer Mr. Kapur?
But before the Kapoor brigade, Lara Dutta graced the red carpet in her blue dress and soon followed her ex boyfriend Kelly Dorje in a rather strange looking outfit along with...hold your breath...three stunning ladies. As for Kelly, all we can say is - teen tigda...kaam bigda. The Jaanbaaz jodi of dad Feroz Khan and son Fardeen Khan attended, then the lonely looking Riteish Deshmukh in his grey suit and blue shirt walked all alone by himself. Mrs. Gauri Khan in her olive green outfit was seen on the red carpet without hubby SRK who already escaped the media through the backstage. It was a white day where many of the celebs wore white - Upen Patel, Dia Mirza, Simi Garewal and Raima Sen. Of course, Abbas Mustan were the only ones missing, which reminds me that when Sajid Khan asked Fardeen Khan why does he feel that the director duo wear white always, he replied - 'I think because they must be a fan of Simi Garewal'. Ha!
The beautiful, the ever-so-charming, the crowning glory and the saagar jaisi aankhon wali Dimple Kapadia along with her daughter Rinke Khanna and designer Abu Jani too went noticed. So while the rest of the fraternity were enjoying their drinks, chicken and their dance, the Kapoors left quietly after making a bit of noise.
So as the red carpet looked deserted outside, the show looked packed inside. From Saif Ali Khan to Katrina Kaif, from ace choreographer Ganesh Hegde to British Asian singer Jay Sean, all showcased their acts with thunderous applause. But the show stealer was Shah Rukh Khan who received the maximum, not only by his Om Shanti Om performance right at the end of the show but just by the cameras showing his face on the giant screens kept for the public. Can you believe it? It was funny man Vinay Pathak who received the maximum as well. How? Read on...He came up to receive his award for the best comedian but as the crowd in London hardly know him and his popularity in India, the arena went a bit quiet. So Vinay comes up to the microphone and tells the audience that he knows how to get them cheering on for him in three words. The words were - 'I love Shah Rukh Khan'. That's Vinay at his best. The fans seemed like they wanted to tear off the screens and take SRK out of there. He is meant to be the 'King' after all.
11 pm - the awards were given out, the acceptance speeches were delivered and the stars walked out in style after the award functions heading to the grande 'After Party' at the St James Park Hotel near Buckingham Palace hosted by Zee. Zee Haan, aapne theek suna. So while Saif Ali Khan was getting too private in front of the public eye with Kareena in the middle of the road outside the Hotel entrance (no wonder his next film is titled - Roadside Romeo), it was Mr. Rishi Kapoor who was more watched by the public for his disrespectful behavior and using swear words left right and centre towards the security guard only for the reason best known to him. What I did hear from the veteran actor though was that he was complaining about his car not turning up on time to fetch him when he stepped out of the party. What's further more embarrassing is the fact that he was shouting and swearing in front of Neetu Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone and how can we forget...the public too.
While the rest of the fraternity were enjoying their drinks, chicken and dance, the Kapoors left quietly after making a bit of noise. Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 29 Apr 2008 | 4:36 pm

Earlier this week, Nokia in association with Big Music came up with an innovative way to promote the music of director Tanvir Ahmed's forthcoming film Ada-a way of life. The film's music has been composed by music maestro A.R. Rahman and die-hard Rahman fans not just have a chance to enjoy his music but also play around with it.
Yes, you heard it right for the first time ever Nokia along with Big Music and A.R. Rahman gives listeners a chance to remix two tracks from this film. The winner of this contest (who will be chosen by the music legend himself) gets a chance to spend one day with him and remix two of the songs of Ada in Rahman's studio.
Bollywood Hungama spoke to producer-director Tanvir Ahmed, who seemed pretty excited by this unique concept, "Big Music has the music rights of my film Ada-a way of life. Rahman has composed some wonderful tunes and through Nokia's newly launched Xpress Music mixer application, listeners have a chance to remix two of Rahman's songs from the soundtrack of the film. It's a very unique and innovative concept"
We also decided to get some more details on the film and its cast, "Ada- a way of life is a film which has many different layers. It's a love story with a social, spiritual, family and crime angle to it. The cast comprises of debutant actor Ayaan Ahmed and Nauheed Cyrusi who play the romantic lead. Apart from them we have Rahul Roy and Ayesha Jhulka who play the role of the parents and there is also Saurabh Dubey who plays the antagonist," said Tanvir
We also quizzed the director on the status of the film. "Well the film is complete, the post-production is currently going on now. As for the music, we had a formal launch at the Nokia event yesterday but the music should be in stores by May 6. The film would release after two months." Said the director
For those who came in late, we at Bollywood Hungama had earlier reported of director Tanvir Ahmed's plans of making a film titled Ada which was to star Big B and Dilip Kumar in the year 2001. So we decided to get the facts straight from the director if this is the same project or a different one considering the title is one and the same, "Yes I had decided to make a film called Ada long time back We had decided to make it on a grand scale with some big names and Rahman had composed the music for us after Lagaan. Mr. Jhamu Sugandh was supposed to produce the film but things didn't work out and the project didn't take off due to certain reasons. Now my film Ada- a way of life only has the same title but it is a completely fresh and different story which is more relevant in today's times. However since Rahman had made 10 tracks for us which were nice romantic numbers I decided to retain them in this film."
Incidentally, debutant Ayaan Ahmed happens to be director Tanvir Ahmed's son, so is this, like a launch for him, "Nothing of that sort. It's just that I was finding a new hero for this fresh love story and he suited the character aptly. He has been able to carry off the role well and I am happy," signs off Tanvir Ahmed. It's general knowledge that the English in India and other foreign countries is 'Same-Same but different'. In the sense, in India, we say 'Cat', whereas they say it's 'Kat'. Here we say, 'cheque', they say 'chek', so on and so forth!
But there's one name to which not only India, but the whole of the Universe abides by and shall abide till eternity and that's 'Shah Rukh Khan'!
The latest 'victim' of the SRK mania was Paris, a city which experienced a never-before mayhem. The reason? Well, SRK was in France for the unveiling of his wax statue at the Grevin Museum. His wife Gauri Khan and Karan Johar accompanied him.
If you thought that SRK will be a stand-alone in the museum, better think again, coz' he has company from the likes of Marylyn Monroe, Michael Jackson and around 300 odd celebrities. SRK now becomes the third Indian at the museum, the first two being Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi.
Is there anything left for you to accomplish, Mr. Khan? True that 'Impossible Is Nothing'. Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 29 Apr 2008 | 2:57 pm

Aamir Khan has been taking very keen interest in smallest details of the promotion of the film. In fact, he is personally looking into the smallest details of the promotion even though he is completely entrenched in shooting for a crucial portion of Ghajini in Hyderabad.
"Jaane Tu⦠as a film has a very young idiom, the language and the tone of the film is very tongue in cheek. We wanted the teaser to reflect the same irreverence in attitude," says Abbas Tyerwala, the director of the film. Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 29 Apr 2008 | 2:43 pm
Yesteryear actress Tanuja and her younger daughter Tanisha are all set to share screen space for the first time, in a Bengali film. While Tanuja has done quite a few Bengali films during the sixties, this is a first time experience for young Tanisha.
Needless to say, Tanisha is excited to make her debut in Bengali films and that too with her mommy dearest. The film will be directed by award winning director Gautam Haldar.
Tanisha was recently seen along with Upen Patel in the mad-cap comedy One Two Three whereas mum Tanuja is seen on the T.V. show Airtel Rock-n-Roll Family along with daughter Kajol and son-in-law Ajay Devgan. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 29 Apr 2008 | 11:20 am
After raising quite some laughs with their comic timing in One Two Three, Paresh Rawal and Neetu Chandra are coming together again for a laugh riot. The film has an interesting title Khusarprasad Ka Bhoot and it comes from the house of Red Ice Films Production.
Confirms Robby Grewal, one of the producers of Red Ice Films Production, "Yes, Paresh Rawal and Neetu Chandra have been signed for the film and the shooting is currently on in full swing at Bhopal. We like the title Khusarprasad Ka Bhoot but at the moment it is a working title. It may go through a change eventually though we are yet to take a call."
Well, the film's title does sound interesting. So is it yet another comic outing in the offering, as has been the trend for last two years? Says Robby after a pause, "Hmmm, I won't call it as a comedy-comedy per se. It is more in the genre of a black comedy. Actually let me call it as a social satire." A social satire? What exactly does he mean here and which social satire is the running theme of Khusarprasad Ka Bhoot?
Refusing to let known much about the plot, Robby replies with a smile, "I should not be talking much about the film's plot here but I can assure that it is a subject which is pretty much identifiable. We are trying to tell a tale in a light hearted manner and are happy to have actors like Paresh Rawal, Randeep Hooda, Neetu Chandra, Govind Namdeo amongst others on board."
Why have the film makers opted for the city of Bhopal? Says Robby promptly, "We wanted to get the small town milieu since it goes perfectly well for the film's setting. Even though it's sweltering heat here, the crew is enjoying themselves getting the shoot in place since not much has been explored of the city in Hindi cinema. It is a beautiful place to work in."
Neetu Chandra complains in mock frustration though. She says, "Here I am getting all heated up in temperature which never refuses to go below 40 degrees. Ask me how it feels to be running up and down the hills in a summer which is yet to peak. I am surely gonna get all burnt up, courtesy this film." The buzz about the multi-crore deal that Hrithik had struck with Adlabs last year is that it's off! Hrithik wants to return the full amount to Adlabs. But the company is not willing to take a no for an answer.
According to a source, "Hrithik has given the cheque back. But they aren't accepting it. In fact they've asked him to keep the money and they'll make just one film instead of three films for that whole amount with him at a date convenient to him." Hrithik won't comment on the status of his deal with Adlabs.
All he says about star prices is, "The corporate companies are looking at the movie market expanding in the next 3-4 years. I agree many recent films haven't done well. But Om Shanti Om and Jodhaa-Akbar reaffirmed the industry's faith in big films. Jodhaa-Akbar was a period film and above three hours long with no commercial trappings. Theatres across India could've just four shows daily. And it's done 150 crore-rupee business worldwide. For me that's what matters, not the controversies that happened initially. It's my biggest hit ever overseas." Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 29 Apr 2008 | 10:42 am
