Lagerfeld Wants Frances Bean Cobain for Chanel

Photo: Getty Images

Karl Lagerfeld reportedly wants Frances Bean Cobain to star in the next Chanel ad campaign. The 15-year-old daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love doesn't look like a typical model, but she's already appeared in several "upmarket" American magazines. Mama Love, however, isn't so thrilled about handing her daughter over to the Kaiser. We must admit, it does sound creepy. She's been chatting the idea over with Karl, a source told the Daily Mail.

Lagerfeld's interest in grunge child Cobain comes as no great surprise considering his love affair with Amy Winehouse. We wondered why WiHo hadn't been tapped for the gig but then learned Cobain is known for her lovely porcelain skin — whereas WiHo has impetigo and any number of "cat" scratches that never go away. Not very Chanel.

Mike Judge Returns to the Office

Photo: Getty Images

Judge Extracts Bateman: Mike Judge gives Jason Bateman a long-awaited lead role in his new comedy, Extract. Let's hope Miramax will treat this movie better than Fox did Idiocracy and, you know, actually release it. Extract represents a return to workaday life for Judge, as the film's set in an office, but with Bateman playing the boss rather than a downtrodden employee — which explains the movie's original title, I Am Curious Lumbergh. [Variety]

Helfer Burns Out: TV Guide is gleefully reporting that Tricia Helfer, Battlestar Galactica's Cylon extraordinaire, will have a multi-episode run on USA's Burn Notice. As the giddy Michael Ausiello exclaims, "Does it get any better than that? Well, does it?!" Sure it's news, but he's so excited you'd think Helfer just announced a multi-episode run of posing naked in his office. [Ausiello Report/TV Guide]

Ripley Hears Tommy: Tony-nominated Alice Ripley (Next to Normal) will play Mrs. Walker in an upcoming Los Angeles production of The Who's Tommy. Joining her is The L Word's Nona Hendrix as the Acid Queen. According to press notes, the production will require the audience to wear headphones for an immersive 3-D sound, and since it's at Hollywood's Ricardo Montalban theater, presumably they'll all be fitted with muscular prosthetic chests. Khaaaaan! [Playbill]

Virgin Fills Out: Iggy & the Stooges, Chuck Berry, and Wilco have joined Virgin Mobile Festival's lineup for Baltimore's August 9 and 10 shows. They also announced a performance from Bob Dylan, although there's a 30 percent chance Cate Blanchett will show up instead. [Billboard]

Mr. and Mrs. Coleman Go to Court: The honeymoon is over, and it looks the marriage ended with it. Gary Coleman and his newly acquired ball-and-chain, Shannon Price, will appear on Divorce Court where they will discuss Coleman's "anger and intimacy issues." According to Price, he throws "temper tantrums like a 5-year-old" and even bashes his head against the wall. Your Honor, Mr. Coleman would like to state for the record that he has no idea whatshetalkin'about. [HR]

Roger Clemens's Icky Affair

Brooke Astor

Photo: Getty Images

Roger Clemens has more trouble on his hands. The Daily News today blows the lid off a ten-year affair that the former Yankee pitcher allegedly had with a country singer. He met the performer, Mindy McCready, when he was 28 (already the married father of two) and she was 15, at a karaoke bar. They reportedly embarked upon an affair that involved lavish trips, flights on private jets, and frequent cash gifts. Clemens denies the affair but acknowledges a long-term friendship with the blonde star. The News goes to extreme length laying out their case that the affair will punch holes in Clemens's lawsuit against former trainer Brian McNamee. Clemens is suing for defamation, and experts say that the affair revelations may tarnish his reputation enough to make the pitcher's claim against McNamee meaningless. So basically, the Daily News just saved Brian McNamee a whole bunch of money. Thanks, guys! But really, did you have to spend so much of your coverage to the whole lawsuit thing? Because we wanted to get back to the part where the country singer was 15 when she started dating Roger Clemens. There wasn't even one sentence about the implications of that little tidbit. Who cares about a former pitcher with a failed lawsuit, when we could have a pitcher with a statutory-rape trial on our hands?

...they managed to snag a last-minute seat at Fortune magazine's table.

And, of course, the fame-hungry duo from MTV's The Hills spent the night snaking their way through the DC after-parties. They hit the Bloomberg LP soirée at the embassy of Costa Rica, which was such a disaster, half the invitees couldn't get in.

Fortune? Bloomberg LP? Wait, neither of you is talking to Rupert Murdoch's Fox Business or Wall Street Journal, right? Please tell me I'm right.

...he is loyal, almost to a fault. One reporter said he “can’t say no.” And many former colleagues say he is not the type of manager who is capable of easily firing workers.

In fact, the prevailing theory as to why he never became the editor of The Financial Times is because the paper needed to trim its ranks after a hiring boom during the dot-com days, and Mr. Thomson was not seen as the right person to do that.

And already at the Journal, the Times reports, Thomson has announced an investment of $6 million per year for four additional pages of international news.

"If I was lucky enough to find love, I thought, I’d better hold onto it. And part of me tried, but a bigger part of me wanted to pitch a tent in my favorite gay bar." [Times]

A Disney spokeswoman called the Vanity Fair shoot "a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines." As opposed to, say, a situation created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell a television show or the products advertised in them.

This isn't about exploitation or morality. It's about, on the one hand, a move studio looking to preserve the profits that come from selling a particular character increasingly divorced from the actress who plays her, and on the other a set of parents freaked out about anything remotely sexual and unwilling to serve as an intermediary between the media and their children.

First off, if you don't like the hair, you should probably move on, because Chris is embracing it. Here he is on "Mullet Row:"

Here's a slightly more romantic shot of the mullet after dark:

Chris, a "full time composer" with an "artsy circle of freakish friends" is not afraid to be a little avant guard with his profile photography:

The profile basics:

In addition to being a composer and cellist...

  • "I love, LOVE food and alchohol."
  • Chris's apartment is indeed in Williamsburg.
  • "My home town is 'The OC,' and my second home is Rio di Janiero."
  • "I watch Lost."
  • "My favorite colors are pink and black."
  • "I compose for modern dance mostly"
  • "I've had lots of haircuts and colors."

If you are hungry for more, green-eyed females who drink regularly, you can check the whole profile at the link below. I really only care about the hair.
