If the maverick film maker Wilson Louis had his way, he would soon have his name entering the record books. The Reason? He is perhaps the first film maker to be picking up specific time and season for setting each of his films. What makes his films special is the fact they are all set in horror-thriller genre, hence adding on to the chill.
The writer-director who started off his big screen career with Ho Sakta Hai is now aiming to make three films which are set in day, night and rain setting. While two of them are almost complete, the work on the third film is already in progress.
Informs Wilson Louis, "Lonavala Khandala Ghat is getting readied for release and the whole film is basically a night horror film. It is based in a haunted place, a villa where a real life couple was actually slaughtered more than 100 years back. Legend is that their souls are still wandering in this villa."
âOn the other hand Kaalo, my next film for which the principal shooting is through, is a day horror film. It is about this strange creature which attacks a bus in the middle of a desert. The film has been shot prominently in Jaisalmer", details Wilson.
So what next is in the pipeline?
âWhile I am looking forward to the release of Lonavala Khandala Ghat and Kaalo (either of the two could arrive first), I am already neck deep into pre-production of my next film. It is going to be a rain horror flick. I should be beginning shooting for this film around July/August this year", says Wilson.
With so many back to back horror flicks that he is directing, it seems that this genre is indeed his favorite?
"You are right", agrees Wilson, "I love making horror flicks. For me, it's also a quest to know more about supernatural. Though I am open to working in other genres as well, horror gives me a definite high." Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 26 Apr 2008 | 1:41 pm
While Yash Raj Films' (YRF) Tashan might be facing some 'tashan' from the multiplexes, YRF seems to be going all out to promote their film in terms of marketing and promotions.
After having the film's cast (Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor) make an appearance in the 'Mumbai Indians' team of the Indian Premiere League (IPL), YRF tied up with Mumbai dabbawalas as a part of the film's latest promotion. In which, the dabbawalas wore a bright Tashan T-shirt and the dabba too had the Tashan's sticker with a paan attached to it.
Speaking about this unique marketing strategy to Bollywood Hungama, Monica of YRF said, "The 'dabbawala' initiative was YRF's in-house brainwave. The response to which was very good. Tashan means style and that's why we wanted to add a little bit of style to the way the people eat their lunch!"

Shah Rukh Khan's home production Billoo Barber directed by Priyadarshan has constantly been in the news mainly for its changes in the cast. With too many speculations doing the rounds, the superstar decided to set the facts straight about Billoo Barber once and for all.
According to SRK, the film is a sweet story of friendship which is quite similar to the bond shared between Krishna and Sudama. Irrfan Khan would be playing the title role of Billoo Barber while Shah Rukh would be seen in an important role in the film. Interestingly a lot of names including Juhi Chawla, Ameesha Patel and Tabu were considered for the part of Irrfan's wife but now it's finally Lara Dutta who has been finalized for that role.
The film which is a remake of a Malayalam film focuses mainly on the life of Irrfan Khan, his wife (Lara) and their two kids. The other cast members apart from Irrfan Khan, SRK and Lara Dutta include Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Asrani.
Khan also added that apart from the main cast, the two hot-n-happening beauties of Bollywood Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone would also be seen in a guest appearance in the film.
With such a cast coming together, Billoo Barber is surely one of the keenly anticipated films of this year. Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 26 Apr 2008 | 10:26 am
He started out as an action hero in a series of Khiladi films. Before you thought he could do only maar-dhaad kind of roles, he shifted gears and ticked your funny bone in some hilarious films like Hera Pheri, Garam Masala and Bhagam Bhag. He even showed his versatility by doing some heavy-duty dramas like Dhadkan, Waqt-A Race against Time and Bewafaa. Yes, we are talking about the one and only Akshay Kumar. After giving four back to back hits last year Akshay is now considered as the most bankable star in the business. Bollywood Hungama brings you an exclusive interview with the man himself who is ready to kick-start year 2008 with his very own Tashan.
What do you think about the music of Tashan?
I love the track âDil Dance Maareâ it has a Bhojpuri flavor. I have never heard something like that itâs a great dance number. There is another romantic number âFalak Takâ, itâs a great travel song shot in Ladakh, Rajasthan, Kerala and a little bit of it in Mumbai so these are the two songs, which are my favourite.
What was it like working with Aki Narula?
Aki Narula did my clothing and styling, he has worked on the smallest details. Aki Narulaâs styling is very cool and stylish, yet he was very real and in the character. I loved my look in the film; it works for Mr. Bachchan Pandey- yesâ¦thatâs my character name.
What made you decide to do this film?
To begin with, the fact that it was a Yash Raj film excited me. I have not worked with them since a long time itâs been a gap of 12 to 13 years so that excitement was there to work with this production house. The second thing was the script, it really excited me to do the film and then my character Bachchan Pandey was something, which I hadnât played before. It is a great masala film and is complete in every way. It is very character driven and the story had a great graph. It is unconventional and that is what excited me.
I have not worked with Yash Raj Films since a long time; Itâs been a gap of 12 to 13 years so that excitement was there to work with this production house.
How was the experience working with Vijay Krishna Acharya?
I think he has a great sense of scripting. Earlier also he has scripted many good films like Guru and Dhoom, I am sure with this kind of scripting he has made his own film in a great way. It was fun working with him, he has a great sense of humor, we really got long very well because he is a north Indian and so am I. So, we have the same kind of humor going and the good thing about him is that he gives his actors and his characters space. He tells them to perform and places his camera according to that, its not like we have to look at the camera and act. Instead in his case its like the actor has to perform and the camera is supposed to catch him. We were really free when we were working with him. We were not feeling claustrophobic because he allows us to just move freely. It was great working with him and I hope I get a chance to work with him again.
Vijay Krishna Acharya has a great sense of humor; we really got along very well because he is a north Indian and so am I.
What was it like working with Peter Hinnes and doing an action film after a long time?
Peter Hinnes is from Vietnam, he has settled in South India and works in South Indian films; he is the most well-known action director there. I got a chance to work with him for the first time. He has not worked in many Hindi films but whenever he has worked here, he has done a great job and I can vouch for it because I myself am an action hero. I come to know when I work with an action director how good he is. He is really good at his job. The action of this film is very realistic; Peter is a great action director. He made me do a little bit of Parkour in this film. I had to learn it because I am not that trained into it; I am still learning Parkour. He got this idea when I showed him a little bit of stunts so when you watch this film you can see a bit of Parkour, thatâs also one of the highlights of the film. It will be fun watching the action of this film, While performing we were having so much fun. If you see the fight, its more of a choreography, because of the environment we created. It was great working with Peter.
What according to you is your Tashan Factor?
My Tashan is my own attitude - an attitude towards life. I think Tashan stands for style and I think itâs âMeâ thatâs what Tashan means to me.
Any one memorable incident during the shoot of the film.
The entire film has been memorable. Shooting in difficult terrain like Ladakh was quite challenging. Due to the high altitude, lot of people had fallen sick but despite that, the shoot continued. Then we shot in Rajasthan in extreme heat and over that we had to wear a jacket. Anil Kapoor had to wear long coats so I am sure it was a memorable moment for him too. Then when we went to Kerala it just did not stop raining; we had to take many breaks in between the shots considering the rains. The director Victor and the entire crew worked very hard to shoot the film so the entire film has been memorable. After a long time I was working with Saif Ali Khan my kid brother and Kareena with whom I have worked very often and of course Mr. Kapoor. Itâs my second movie with him so it was a lot of fun working with all of them.

Can you tell us something about the character you play in the film?
I play the character of Bachchan Pandey who is from Kanpur who accidentally happens to watch two/three films like Godfather. He gets very inspired by the film, on the other hand he also works for a recovery agency as a recovery agent and how this character falls in love is what it is all about. 'Chak De Phatte', cries out loud choreographer Pony Verma to Om Puri while shooting for 'Shama Shama Jalti Hai'. Yes, get ready to see Om Puri in comic yet sensuous item number. The item song is a part of Om Puri's forthcoming film Mere Baapâ¦Pehle Aap directed by Priyadarshan. âIt's a hard-hitting song which I am sure will be big hit in various club,â says Pony.
The song is a dream sequence where Om Puri travels at different places in Goa. A new dusky girl named Vineeta from Delhi is paired opposite Puri in the song. âOm Puri has donned three different looks and looks cute while singing rap sequences. It was a hilarious sight watching him sing English words in his Punjabi accented voice. He would give his best crying 'Come on Baby' and we would burst out to laughter,â informs Pony.
During the four days of shoot at Goa, Omji felt extremely shy to dance with hot and sizzling girls around him. But all thanks to his wife who would encourage him to come out of shell and dance without any kind of hesitation.
Says Pony, âI remember he would refuse to dance on the yacht, in the middle of the sea, as he was not all that comfortable. But, I must say he had done a wonderful job. He would at times sit at the corner and look at the girls dancing. When asked about the memorable moments while shooting she says, âOh! We had a gala time. We would have a laughter riot looking at Omji cutely sitting at the corner watching these girls dancing as he would get very uneasy at every sequence when some girl would come close to him.â
She further adds, âIt was once in a lifetime opportunity working with the legend himself. However, in the beginning, the news of me working with Omji definitely took me by surprise and I was a bit apprehensive about how it's going to happenâ¦but things worked pretty well.â Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 25 Apr 2008 | 5:02 pm
Very few directors of Indian origin have been able to make a mark for themselves in Hollywood and probably one of the most prominent among them is director Manoj Night Shyamalan.
M.Night Shyamalan, as he is known as in Hollywood, is the person responsible for giving us the shivers through his films like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs and The Village.
The Indian born director who has been living in the U.S. for a long time is now all set to make a visit to his motherland after nearly a decade. And the reason for his making a visit to India is two-fold.
First and foremost the director, who has won many international awards for his work is set to receive the prestigious Padma Shri Award from the President of India. For the uninitiated, the Padma Shri is one of India's highest civilian awards after the Bharat Ratna, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan.
Another reason that has probably got the incredibly gifted director back to his birth-land after a hiatus is the release of his forthcoming film The Happening. The Happening is a supernatural thriller which stars Mark Wahlberg and is co-produced by Twentieth Century Fox along with UTV Motion Pictures.
Bollywood Hungama spoke to Siddharth Roy Kapoor, CEO- UTV Motion Pictures to get some more details on Night's visit to India. "Yeah, we are eagerly looking forward to M Night Shyamalan coming here to India. He would be arriving in the first week of May and would be in Mumbai for a couple of days. Post that he moves to Delhi to receive the prestigious Padma Shri." says Siddharth.
Considering Night Shyamalan's films have a huge fan following in India are there any special plans in store to promote the movie? "Yes, we will be giving an opportunity for the media to interact with him considering he hasn't come to India in a while. Other than that also we are planning some promotional activities for our film The Happening which releases worldwide on June 13th. It's quite apt that this supernatural film opens on Friday the 13th", says Siddharth with a smile.
And finally, how was the experience working with an internationally acclaimed director like Night Shyamalan, "It's been a very good experience. He is a very planned-out, methodical director who knows exactly what he wants to do and it was great working with him" signs off Siddharth Roy Kapoor. After the encouraging response to his directorial debut in U Me Aur Hum, Ajay Devgan is thinking of directing an actioner next. Life comes a full circle for Ajay since he started his career with an actioner Phool Aur Kaante 15 years ago.
This Diwali get ready for the war of the wows. While Subhash Ghai is readying Yuvraaj his most ambitious and unique project yet which goes into the never-before territory of western classical music, Yashraj Films steps into the animation kingdom in style with Roadside Romeo. "Yashraj Films has gone to the dogs," jokes a young filmmaker about the illustrious doggie's love story with Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor doing the canine chords.
While two of the top-most banners in the country are going for an entirely new approach to filmmaking, Ajay Devgan who has lately turned director is getting ready with an all-out formula fare for Diwali.
And the competition doesn't bother him. It never has. "I've always worked at my own pace. That's going to change now. After U Me Aur Hum, I can't afford to be lazy. At the same time, I've never bothered with what others do. Why should that change?"
Ajay isn't willing to give up his comic connections. "Golmaal Returns is much funnier than the first film. And far glossier," says Ajay, who's currently in Goa shooting the last schedule of his funny film. "After this we've just one song left and then we're done," says Ajay, who gets together with Kareena Kapoor for the second time after Omkara , and what a difference! "You can say that again! But then you can't be doing only serious cinema all the time. Audiences like watching light films. So I'll continue being part of them."
As a director, however, Ajay has slightly different plans. "I've two subjects ready, and I may decide to do either one, depending on what I feel right. After a very serious subject, I may decide to do a lighter film. In fact I'm seriously thinking of doing an actioner. If I do, it'd be very different from the stunts that we see in other films. But there will definitely be an undercurrent of seriousness; a social message will run through the film for sure." Source: BollywoodHungama.com News | 25 Apr 2008 | 3:36 pm
