If one thought that the pretty young Minissha Lamba was all sweet and docile then think again. That's because in her upcoming film Shaurya, the Yahaan actor gets into quite a firebrand mode.
Reveals Minissha, "The character of Kaavya Shastri which I portray in Shaurya is pretty much a firebrand. For her truth is the ultimate. As an investigative journalist, she has just started off her career and hence doesn't come with an excess baggage. One can safely presume that she is uncorrupted by politics around her."
Minissha as a firebrand comes across as quite an unlikely combination. After all, she has been having fun singing and dancing in mainstream films like Rocky - The Rebel and Anthony Kaun Hai in the past. "Well, you are forgetting Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. where I played a super-woman", jokes Minisha.
Getting serious, she adds, "In any case, being a firebrand doesn't just mean uttering rubbish or speaking loud. Even without such traits one can be tactful, straight forward, not indulge into blabbering and still make a point. I credit my director Samar Khan for making Kaavya Shastri as real as it gets. If he wanted, he could have made my character that is just proper. Instead, he has made me go through those little moments of eccentricity which makes it all the more identifiable."
What were her efforts in making her character work for the film? "Not many are aware that before entering films, I wanted to be a journalist myself. Also, in every day life, I get pretty moved when I see any wrong doings around me. It is just difficult to keep my head down and bow out of a situation like this. Some people in fact feel embarrassed when they have to pitch into someone else's problem. They feel that it may be unnecessary for them to indulge into someone else's affair and allow the person to be mistreated. But I can't be like that!"
In that case does Shaurya reflect what Minissha is in real life? "Exactly, this is why in Shaurya, 80% of my own personality comes into play. I get to enact the real me in the film which has only turned out to be an out rightly rewarding experience for me", says Minissha excitedly.
About Kaavya Shastri
As an investigative journalist, she stumbles upon a case (related to an Army officer) which is almost dead and buried. While everyone around her feels that the case should lie dead, Kaavya wants to find answers to all the questions which no one wants to remember or talk about. Though for her as well, it's the beginning of a professional journey, it gradually becomes a matter of personal issue as she wants the justice to be done at all cost. Is it the end of the road for long films? The producers UTV and the director Ashutosh Gowarikar may have thought otherwise. But the exhibitors of Jodhaa Akbar (JA) in the smaller centers have taken matters in their own hands.
Vital sequences amounting to a good 30 minutes of playing time, including Hrithik Roshan's elephant fight and Aishwarya's culinary conflict with Ila Arun, have been edited out from JA in Patna. According to sources this has been done to accommodate the mandatory 4-shows which had been denied the film to start with.
But the film's Bihar distributor is none too pleased with the local exhibitor's editorial skills. "I was myself shocked to see some of the key scenes gone from JA. I don't think any exhibitor has the right to act above the creative rights of a film's director and producer. Earlier a good 45-60 minutes were forced out of J.P. Dutta'a LOC when the director had categorically instructed exhibitors not to cut his film. If you don't wish to run a long film, please don't screen the film. But please don't act God over a film's fate," says the distributor.
UTV's Siddharth Roy-Kapoor is unfazed by the extra-constitutional editing of their premium product. "It's hard to monitor what happens in the smaller centers. But we're not the least daunted. We at UTV are certainly not going to dictate a film's length to a director just to fit into the screening timings. Ashutosh Gowarikar is making another film for UTV. And he's welcome to make it as long or short as he wants to."
One thing is for sure. While earlier scenes and footage were added to a film as it progressed towards that now-fugitive goal of a silver jubilee, today's average viewer has no patience to watch a film that exceeds 2 hours. Source: Indiafm.com News | 19 Mar 2008 | 12:11 pm
He is humorous and so was his film. Sajid Khan set the Bollywood charts high with his directorial debut. He is now all set repeat it again with his forthcoming flick for which he signed Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone.
After Chandni Chowk to China, this will be Akshay and Deepika's second film together. Sajid not only repeats Akshay alone but also Riteish Deshmukh and Sajid Nadiadwala for his second film. âThe film is yet to be titled and I need to talk to some other stars as well. It is going to be a multistarrer,â says an exhilarated Sajid Khan. The film will also have two more heroines and one more hero.
âThe film will go on floor by the end of the year and its going to be a romantic comedy. It's not on the lines of Heyy Babyy and it is for sure going to be the biggest hit film of 2009,â Sajid confidently adds. Source: Indiafm.com News | 19 Mar 2008 | 11:16 am

On Tuesday, Kareena who's been on a vertiginous high since the release of Jab We Met finally started shooting a new film at Film City at the outskirts of Mumbai. Nervous like a debutante, Kareena said, "Although we've done Priyadarshan's Kyun Ki before, I always get nervous working with Salman. He was my sister's hero long before we were paired together. And now to be doing a film with himâ¦"
The two were destined to serenade immortality in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani. But the film never happened. Kareena was also signed for Salman Khan's home production My Punjabi Nikaah. That never happened either.
Kareena chuckles in disbelief. "Our new film Main Aur Mrs Khanna is an intensely romantic film. I don't think Salman has done a pure love story like this before. Neither have I. Sohail is also in the film."
Interestingly, this is the first time in her distinguished career that Kareena will be working with a debutant director Prem Soni. "He's very talented. It wouldn't matter even if he wasn't. I'm doing it for Salman," says Kareena emotionally. Source: Indiafm.com News | 19 Mar 2008 | 10:54 am

Vishal and Shekhar are happy that their soundtrack for Om Shanti Om is making waves at an international platform. Though they are waiting for their first major popular award for Om Shanti Om in Mumbai, in Hong Kong their work has already been recognized.
At the prestigious Asian Film Awards held very recently, the duo won an award for 2008's biggest blockbuster, both theatrically and musically, Om Shanti Om. The film was the only Indian entry amongst other Asian films. Also, the awards catered to mainstream cinema which only made the competition tougher.
Reveals Vishal Dadlani, who is of course thrilled about him and Shekhar receiving the award, "It has been quite a pleasant surprise to be recognized for our work at an Asian level. Imagine our music was competing against Lust, Caution, a film which is directed by Ang Lee of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Brokeback Mountain and Hulk fame."
He goes on to add, "I am told that these awards hold a similar stature internationally as Pusan International Film Festival, South Korea. It is definitely a matter of pride for us."
Since awards were aimed at mainstream cinema, how were the winners chosen? Was it through SMS/voting from public or there was a jury system? "It was through jury. It consisted of film personalities from across globe like China, Canada, Italy, Hong Kong, US, South Korea, India, France and Germany", says Vishal.
Other Indian nominations in Asian Film Awards were Deepika Padukone for Om Shanti Om and cinematographer Shanker Raman for Frozen. However, they lost out to their other Asian counterparts.
Recently, Vishal and Shekhar also won Central European Bollywood Award as best composers for Om Shanti Om. The duo has been nominated for most major Bollywood awards this year. Though they lost out on Filmfare awards, they have Zee and Apsara awards to look forward to. Also, they are expected to be on the top of the list in soon-to-be-hosted IIFA awards.
"Ya, it was great getting Central European Bollywood Award as well. Now let's see what do Bollywood awards have in store for us", smiles Vishal. Source: Indiafm.com News | 19 Mar 2008 | 10:14 am

Most directors crumble after their directorial debut bites the dust. But not Samar Khan. He's made of sterner stuff. Having known Samar for a really long time now, the one thing that Samar never lost was optimism. Samar is now ready with his second film SHAURYA, a film that's already created a positive buzz prior to its release.
âI was apprehensive when Samar approached me with the script of SHAURYA,â Rahul Bose tells me honestly, âBut what I liked about Samar was his attitude. He was like, 'Okay, I made a mistake earlier, but I want to prove myself right. I can deliver.' And then he handed me the script of SHAURYA. The writing was excellent; Samar had gone into minute details about every character. I must add, it's one of the finest scripts I've come across.â
Rahul also rubbishes reports that he interfered during the making of the film. âSamar has his vision, he was very sure about what he wanted. It would be wrong to take credit of something when the fact is that it's Samar's baby all the way,â Rahul sets the record straight.

The good times continue for Katrina Kaif. The actress who had the unique distinction of delivering 4 hits last year (Namstey London, Apne, Partner and Welcome) has been signing some really big and lucrative deals. However this one probably beats them all.
Katrina has been offered a whopping Rs 1.5 crore for doing a dance number and a few more scenes in Shree Ashtavinayak's Blue, which stars Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, and Lara Dutta in lead roles. The hot-n-happening actress didn't deny the amount and has apparently allotted around ten days for the film in the month of May.
Parag Desai, the media consultant of Shree Ashtavinayak confirmed having signed Katrina for Blue but didn't really confirm or deny the amount paid. In fact he even said that Katrina has a proper role in the film and not just an item number.
Looks like the sun is indeed shining bright for the Bollywood's current sunshine girl. Source: Indiafm.com News | 18 Mar 2008 | 1:18 pm

Now it can be told. The star-price war has escalated to an all-time high. With Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan carrying home a pay packet of Rs 4 crores for her proposed stint as Rajnikanth's leading lady in Shankar's Robot, the lady has now become the highest-paid actress of Indian cinema.
A source very close to Aishwarya says, "The media has got it all wrong. Ash has actually received twice the amount quoted in papers and on websites as her fee for Robot. Yes, it's close to Rs 4 crores. And she's very amused when she reads about this and that actress being the highest-paid actress in Bollywood. With three hits in a row (Guru, Dhoom 2 and Jodhaa Akbar) Ash's equity as a Rai and a Bachchan have gone through the roof. If she wants she can preen about her successes. But that's not her style. However, she takes strong exception to Bipasha Basu's quotes that she (Ash) had to 'hang around' to get into the international circuit. Ash has been regularly offered international projects, from Provoked to Mistress Of Spices to Bride & Prejudice to Last Legion to Pink Panther. In fact, all the other international assignments that have gone to other Bollywood actresses-including the honour of hosting the 7Wonders Of The World event in Lisbon with Ben Kingsley-have gone to Ash first. It's just that she feels awkward talking about herself."
As for her astronomical fee for Robot another source close to the project says, "It is no surprise that Aishwarya is getting 4 crores. It's still chicken-feed compared with what Rajnikanth gets paid. He takes home Rs 15 crores plus fifty percent of his film's profits. But still he cannot make a film commercially viable outside the Tamilian belt on his own. The dubbed Hindi version of Chandramukhi came and went. And Rajni's biggest hit Shivaji is in no hurry to be released in Hindi. With Ash in Robot it looks like an attractive non-regional film."
