The good times continue for Katrina Kaif. The actress who had the unique distinction of delivering 4 hits last year (Namstey London, Apne, Partner and Welcome) has been signing some really big and lucrative deals. However this one probably beats them all.
Katrina has been offered a whopping Rs 1.5 crore for doing a dance number and a few more scenes in Shree Ashtavinayak's Blue, which stars Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, and Lara Dutta in lead roles. The hot-n-happening actress didn't deny the amount and has apparently allotted around ten days for the film in the month of May.
Parag Desai, the media consultant of Shree Ashtavinayak confirmed having signed Katrina for Blue but didn't really confirm or deny the amount paid. In fact he even said that Katrina has a proper role in the film and not just an item number.
Looks like the sun is indeed shining bright for the Bollywood's current sunshine girl. Source: Indiafm.com News | 18 Mar 2008 | 1:18 pm

Now it can be told. The star-price war has escalated to an all-time high. With Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan carrying home a pay packet of Rs 4 crores for her proposed stint as Rajnikanth's leading lady in Shankar's Robot, the lady has now become the highest-paid actress of Indian cinema.
A source very close to Aishwarya says, "The media has got it all wrong. Ash has actually received twice the amount quoted in papers and on websites as her fee for Robot. Yes, it's close to Rs 4 crores. And she's very amused when she reads about this and that actress being the highest-paid actress in Bollywood. With three hits in a row (Guru, Dhoom 2 and Jodhaa Akbar) Ash's equity as a Rai and a Bachchan have gone through the roof. If she wants she can preen about her successes. But that's not her style. However, she takes strong exception to Bipasha Basu's quotes that she (Ash) had to 'hang around' to get into the international circuit. Ash has been regularly offered international projects, from Provoked to Mistress Of Spices to Bride & Prejudice to Last Legion to Pink Panther. In fact, all the other international assignments that have gone to other Bollywood actresses-including the honour of hosting the 7Wonders Of The World event in Lisbon with Ben Kingsley-have gone to Ash first. It's just that she feels awkward talking about herself."
As for her astronomical fee for Robot another source close to the project says, "It is no surprise that Aishwarya is getting 4 crores. It's still chicken-feed compared with what Rajnikanth gets paid. He takes home Rs 15 crores plus fifty percent of his film's profits. But still he cannot make a film commercially viable outside the Tamilian belt on his own. The dubbed Hindi version of Chandramukhi came and went. And Rajni's biggest hit Shivaji is in no hurry to be released in Hindi. With Ash in Robot it looks like an attractive non-regional film." Samir Karnik certainly has a reason to smile. Nanhe Jaisalmer has been chosen as one of the nominees for National awards this year. In addition to that, his upcoming films Heroes and Roshan are selected for different categories in the Cannes Film Festival. The festival will be held in France in the month of May.
Excited about the new happenings in his career, Samir Karnik claimed that despite the fact that the first copies of both his films (Heroes and Roshan) were not out; he managed to send a working piece, which has been accepted by the fraternity of Cannes. Although his films would not be showcased but just the thought of sending films for a competition category gives him a new high.
Samir is all praises for the cinematographer, Binod Pradhan. He claimed that Pradhan's work in both the films was simply outstanding. He went on to add that it s really difficult to win at Cannes but they are hoping for the best.

So what is Ashutosh Gowariker making next, after JODHAA AKBAR? A section of the media would like us to believe that the noted film-maker is planning a romantic film next. But here's the exclusive, official statement from Gowarikerâ¦
âRight now, I am merely exploring ideas. To be honest, I am still into JODHAA AKBAR even now. I am trying to plug it wherever I can. Of course, I am not as aggressive as Shah Rukh or Aamir, but I am giving my best shot.
âMy next film will be a modern love story. This is something I had announced on your TV show ['B Biz'] before the film's release. It could be romantic, it could be comedy, it could be thriller. In fact, the three genres suit the description of a modern story. But, as I said, I am still undecided.
âWhat I am sure is that there will not be a 4-year gap between JODHAA AKBAR and my next film. Between LAGAAN and SWADES, it was 3 years. Between SWADES and JODHAA AKBAR, it was 4 years. I plan to make one film every year, that's my new resolve. Also, my next venture will again be co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala [UTV]. He's a fantastic guy with a great team. Working with him has been a real pleasure.â Source: Indiafm.com News | 18 Mar 2008 | 7:33 am

Anupam Kher's statements in London last week that through his acting school he wants to change the hammy style of Bollywood acting has raised quite a few hackles in Mumbai's entertainment industry. But Anupam is unfazed. "Isn't it true that a lot of us ham in Indian films, and not because it comes naturally to us? Often we're asked to perform that way. And the Indian audience to this day reacts more favorably to broad performances as compared with the more subtle ones."
Anupam made his controversial statements on a visit to London to open a branch of his school Actor Prepares in the city. On March 7, Anupam Kher turned a year older. "I flew to London to sign the biggest deal of my life. I returned on Sunday feeling satisfied with life." A jubilant and exhilarated Anupam Kher returned to Mumbai from London after having finalized plans to open a branch of his acting school in London in September. "We at 'Actor Prepares' are tying up with the 'Ealing Institute Of Media'. We signed the MOU in London on March 6. In my opinion, this is the biggest Bollywood-British tie-up. 'The Times', London, carried a full-page interview last week. I was on the People's page in 'The Guardian' along with Prince Charles. In 'The Herald Tribune', my London school- plans have been covered along with singer Bruce Sprinsteen. The 'Washington Post' has also written a lengthy article on 'Actor Prepares'. Surely for a small-town boy from Simla you've to agree its one big leap ahead."
Anupam is now totally consumed by the idea of carrying his acting school to foreign shores. âI think my school has finally reached an international platform, and not just because we're opening international branches. But because of the interest it has generated globally." The actor admits he doesn't have much of a business sense. "But then schools aren't run by business sense, they're run by a passion for excellence. We aim at training only the best students, around 25-40 students per session. After three years of the school's life in Mumbai 'Actor Prepares' has achieved the international standards we had set for ourselves. I feel in the next 5 years my school will prepare actors from all over the world, 'Actor Prepares' in London and other global branches won't focus on Asians. We're hiring teachers from all over the world. But I won't be an absentee teacher. I'll be there on the spot."
He stops to look back fondly at his school. "I think the best thing I did in my life was to start 'Actor Prepares'." Source: BollywoodHungama.com Features | 17 Mar 2008 | 2:15 pm

Hottest film of the season, Race, is looking at making a big announcement on its arrival. If sources are to be believed, the film would release at not less than 700 prints just in India. This would make the film one of the biggest releases ever.
When contacted, Ramesh Taurani of TIPS did confirm the big plans for Race. "We are quite confident about our film. Looking at the kind of buzz Race has generated, we are going all out in its publicity and release. We are definitely arriving at 700+ prints," says Taurani.
Race comes at a time when Bollywood lovers have been literally starved of any commercial film hitting the screens. Since the arrival of Jodhaa Akbar (on February 15, 2008), no new film has released with an exception of Black & White. However, this experimental film by Subhash Ghai hardly succeeded in enticing the audience that has been desperately waiting for something bigger and more commercial.
"Abbas Mustan have come up with a pakka commercial entertainer in the form of Race so I am sure audience won't be disappointed", says Taurani confidently, "There are elements of suspense, intrigue, drama and lots of action which would have something exciting running on screen all the time. Moreover, the music of Race has been topping the charts all over so that's a great sign too."
Tell him that 'Sexy Lady' is turning out to be most popular of the lot while surpassing the response generated by three other chartbuster songs by Pritam - 'Pehli Nazar Mein', 'Zara Zara' and 'Race Sanson Mein' - and he smiles, "We have managed to hit the right spots with the film's music. Now it's time for the film to do the talking as well."
Race is the biggest multi starrer ever by director duo of Abbas Mustan. Though they have worked with several big stars in the past, this is for the first time that they have six mainstream lead actors on one single platform. They have worked with Akshaye Khanna and Bipasha Basu in the past but this is for the first time ever that they have roped in Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy.
"As is always the case with an Abbas Mustan film, here too every character has an integral part to play in the film. Be ready for some surprises coming your way because you actually don't know what is in store for you,â concludes Taurani.

Race
It couldn't have been better for TIPS and Abbas Mustan! As the film is just 4 days from it's release, the music of 'Race' continues to dominate from the top. With mot much competition in sight for next fortnight at least, this Pritam soundtrack has won this 'one horse race'!

Jodhaa Akbar
With the film sustaining quite well at the theaters, the music too has done well for itself and been steady in the charts. A.R. Rahman has another good success to his name.
Surprisingly, the film's promotion has slowed down a little just when it seemed that the music would seriously challenge 'Race' at the top

Taare Zameen Par
Not willing to give up, 'Taare Zameen Par' shows that how a classy album can sustain itself even with the likes of 'masala' soundtracks 'Race', 'Om Shanti Om' and 'Jab We Met' running in parallel!

Jannat
Pritam's golden run continues! Even as his 'Race' is doing excellent at the music stands, 'Jannat' has arrived and made a mark instantaneously. The combination of Bhatts, Emraan Hashmi and Pritam has scored a hat trick after 'Gangster' and 'Awarapan'.

U Me Aur Hum
'U Me Aur Hum' is back in Top-5 with the fourth song from the film, the title song, already on air. This leaves the 'bhangra' number 'Phatte' as the only one remaining to be unveiled!
Vishal Bhardwaj's music typically takes time to grow. For some impatient folks, it may prove to be a hindrance!

Om Shanti Om
'Om Shanti Om' continues to have it's flip-flop around the middle of the charts. Even though the promotion of 'Om Shanti Om' has come to a virtual stand still, the music still continues to sell. Now that's quite an accomplishment in the times of piracy!

Jab We Met
For the first time ever since it's arrival into the charts 6 months ago, 'Jab We Met' shows a considerable drop. Seeing a sudden fall by as many as 3 spots, 'Jab We Met' finds itself at #7. However, it doesn't seem likely that it would fall much further in weeks to follow since 'Tashan' is the only notable album in close sight!

Welcome
Remaining steady at #8, 'Welcome' continues to get a warm welcome, both in terms of music as well as DVD sales. The songs are currently also hot favorite up North considering the ongoing marriage season.

Black & White
With the film hardly making an impression at the box office, the music too has seen a drop and is now hanging on at the bottom of the charts.
Except for a couple of songs, the music of 'Black & White' doesn't have much of an audience going for it

Sunday
'Sunday' is now at an edge though lack of any competition whatsoever may mean that it would still manage to have some life!
A sustained promotion could have paved way for the music of 'Sunday' to manage better sales
