Katrina, Deepika to groove with Dravid for IPL video

Download image as wallpaper Just as the euphoria and excitement surrounding King Khan's video for his IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders seems to be subsiding, comes the news that the Bangalore Royal Challengers IPL team would also be soon unveiling their ad and promotional video. For those who came in late, the Bangalore Royal Challengers IPL team is owned by none other than liquor baron Dr. Vijay Mallya and local boy Rahul Dravid is the captain. Mallya, who is known to do things in style, has roped in director Sanjay Gupta to direct the sporty and racy ad while action director Allan Amin would be in-charge of the action. What's more, Mallya would also be coming out with a promotional music video, an anthem for his team for which music composer Sandeep Chowta has been roped in. However, what is considered the real high-point is that this video would have Rahul Dravid in the company of two sizzling hot beauties- Katrina Kaif and Bangalore girl Deepika Padukone. Well, with Bollywood beauties grooving with our Men-in-Blue, cricket fever seems to reach an all time high this summer.

"Freeze is a sci-fi film like Mr. India" - Neil Mukesh

After garnering compliments for his debut performance in Johnny Gaddaar, Neil Nitin Mukesh has been signed by couple of big producers. One of projects he is doing is titled Freeze produced by Eros International, which will be directed by Jehangir Surti. Excited about his character in the film he says, "I play an ambitious photographer who is rejected by the society. He then comes across a device which completely changes his life. Thus, struggling to make it big, avails a luring opportunity which changes his fate but later compels him to realize what exactly he wanted from life." As far as the story of the film is concerned, he informs, "Freeze (tentative) is futuristic in other words a science-fiction film based on the lines of Mr. India which also has huge amount of action in it." Without divulging many details, the director of the film, Jehangir Surti says, "The story is the USP of the film, something which has never been dealt before." He goes on to add, "It's a romantic film with supernatural elements in it." The film is scheduled to go on the floors in the month of April and will have Pritam composing the music.

Designer Jean-Paul Gaultier attends Padmavati premiere in Paris

The posh premiere on Friday night of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's opera Padmavati at the pricey Theatre Du Chatelet was attended by the who's- who of Paris. "Some of Paris most well-known figures from arts, culture, and politics were present to see Sanjay's version of Padmavati. Among them was the legendary French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier who slipped in minutes before the performance with his lady friend and sat enthralled throughout the performance," says an eyewitness at the premiere. Apparently, Sanjay couldn't recognize the mythic designer. It was his sister, Bela who discreetly pointed out the presence of Gaultier and whispered his name into her brother's ear. At the party held after the premiere show, it was Sanjay's unaffected and utterly gregarious mother who bonded big- time with Gaultier and specially his lady friend who seemed extremely taken up with Mrs. Leela Bhansali's disarming simplicity. Says a guest at the venue, "Sanjay's mom just took to Gaultier and his leading lady, she even invited them to India on her son's behalf. Sanjay was too nervous and preoccupied to converse too long with Gaultier or anyone else at the event. His focus was on getting everything right. And when it went well he simply sat back and relaxed for the first time in two months." Sanjay wore a Rajesh Pratap Singh creation. "But it didn't matter what he wore. His concentration was on getting the first show right. Now that he has gone swimmingly, the opera producers are making big plans for Padmavati's progression in Paris and abroad." For the opening night, the Saawariya duo Ranbir and Sonam Kapoor were also expected to join Sanjay and his family in Paris but had to bow out at the last minute due to packed schedules. "But it didn't really matter because I knew I had the good wishes of the entire country with me," said the overwhelmed director. "We had a private staging of the play a day before the play opened to the public. The press and elite audiences were extremely positive. Now that Padmavati has opened to such an overwhelming ovation, all I can say is, I feel I was to the opera-born. V. Shantaram's colorful flamboyant style of filmmaking was always my forte. On stage, I got a chance to pay homage to Shantaram without bothering about camera angles. Padmavati is me, unexpunged." The forthcoming shows of the play are already booked well in advance. Sanjay is looking at a work that's fated to becoming the first worldwide operatic triumph by an Indian creator. "I'm so into it right now, so consumed by the crew's commitment and infected by the audiences' response that I can't think of anything else. All I want to say to people back home in India is if I've made the country proud then I've succeeded as an individual and an artiste."

Anupam Kher's comments on Bollywood's 'Hammy' acting raises eyebrows

Anupam Kher's statements in London last week that through his acting school he wants to change the hammy style of Bollywood acting has raised quite a few hackles in Mumbai's entertainment industry. But Anupam is unfazed. "Isn't it true that a lot of us ham in Indian films, and not because it comes naturally to us? Often we're asked to perform that way. And the Indian audience to this day reacts more favorably to broad performances as compared with the more subtle ones." Anupam made his controversial statements on a visit to London to open a branch of his school Actor Prepares in the city. On March 7, Anupam Kher turned a year older. "I flew to London to sign the biggest deal of my life. I returned on Sunday feeling satisfied with life." A jubilant and exhilarated Anupam Kher returned to Mumbai from London after having finalized plans to open a branch of his acting school in London in September. "We at 'Actor Prepares' are tying up with the 'Ealing Institute Of Media'. We signed the MOU in London on March 6. In my opinion, this is the biggest Bollywood-British tie-up. 'The Times', London, carried a full-page interview last week. I was on the People's page in 'The Guardian' along with Prince Charles. In 'The Herald Tribune', my London school- plans have been covered along with singer Bruce Sprinsteen. The 'Washington Post' has also written a lengthy article on 'Actor Prepares'. Surely for a small-town boy from Simla you've to agree its one big leap ahead." Anupam is now totally consumed by the idea of carrying his acting school to foreign shores. “I think my school has finally reached an international platform, and not just because we're opening international branches. But because of the interest it has generated globally." The actor admits he doesn't have much of a business sense. "But then schools aren't run by business sense, they're run by a passion for excellence. We aim at training only the best students, around 25-40 students per session. After three years of the school's life in Mumbai 'Actor Prepares' has achieved the international standards we had set for ourselves. I feel in the next 5 years my school will prepare actors from all over the world, 'Actor Prepares' in London and other global branches won't focus on Asians. We're hiring teachers from all over the world. But I won't be an absentee teacher. I'll be there on the spot." He stops to look back fondly at his school. "I think the best thing I did in my life was to start 'Actor Prepares'."

Upen cajoled by producer to promote One Two Three

Click above for more stills It looked like a never-ending war between Upen Patel and the debutant director Ashwani Dheer for his new comedy One Two Three. In fact, Upen was so hopping- mad he had decided to stay away from all promotional campaigns for the film that opens next month. "Why should I promote a film when its director is openly insulting me?" Upen reasoned. But now the film's producer Kumar Mangat has taken charge. Apparently, he threatened to remove Upen from all promotional campaigns of not just One Two Three, but his next comedy Money Hai To Honey Hai where Upen shares the marquee with Govinda, Manoj Bajpai Aftab Shivdasani and Ravi Kissan. Kumar Mangat laughs when asked about Upen's ire. "He's a bachcha. Apne ghar ka bachcha. He got upset when a small part of his item song in One Two Three was removed. But he should understand that even others in the film including Paresh Rawal had scenes removed to make the length crisp. Nowadays films need to be approximately two hours long, especially when it's a comedy." Kumar Mangat says he reasoned with Upen. "I told him he has to think about his next film Money Hai To Honey Hai with me. And two other films which I'm planning with Upen. Yes, I've signed Upen for a total of four films. It's a long- standing relationship, as I said ghar ki baat…He understood my point of view. Upen will be coming to my Holi party which I'm throwing for the cast and crew of One Two Three." The excited producer adds, “One Two Three is all about fun and masti. Why spoil it? The film is so funny that audiences will be laughing in their sleep when they return home."

Aamir Khan to attend an award function

Aamir Khan bagged the Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial foundation award as the Best Debut Director for Taare Zameen Par. The jury members included the likes of Kamal Hassan and director Singitam Srinivasa. Despite being awarded as 'The Best Director' in almost all the popular award ceremonies, Aamir never showed up for any of them. Interestingly, this time he would be in Chennai on August 12 to receive the Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial foundation award along with a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh. Kamal Hassan all praises for Aamir and TZP as he declared the award on Sunday (March 16). Apparently, it's for the first time that a film from Bollywood has been chosen for the award in the past 11 years since the inception of the foundation. The Gollapudi foundation which recognizes the directorial talent in India was founded in 1998 by well-known Telugu-writer Gollapudi Maruthi Rao in the memory of his late son Srinivasa, who died in an accident while making a film. Taare Zameen Par has been selected among the 19 nominations across the country.

"We would give Race a big release" - Ramesh Taurani

Hottest film of the season, Race, is looking at making a big announcement on its arrival. If sources are to be believed, the film would release at not less than 700 prints just in India. This would make the film one of the biggest releases ever. When contacted, Ramesh Taurani of TIPS did confirm the big plans for Race. "We are quite confident about our film. Looking at the kind of buzz Race has generated, we are going all out in its publicity and release. We are definitely arriving at 700+ prints," says Taurani. Race comes at a time when Bollywood lovers have been literally starved of any commercial film hitting the screens. Since the arrival of Jodhaa Akbar (on February 15, 2008), no new film has released with an exception of Black & White. However, this experimental film by Subhash Ghai hardly succeeded in enticing the audience that has been desperately waiting for something bigger and more commercial. "Abbas Mustan have come up with a pakka commercial entertainer in the form of Race so I am sure audience won't be disappointed", says Taurani confidently, "There are elements of suspense, intrigue, drama and lots of action which would have something exciting running on screen all the time. Moreover, the music of Race has been topping the charts all over so that's a great sign too." Tell him that 'Sexy Lady' is turning out to be most popular of the lot while surpassing the response generated by three other chartbuster songs by Pritam - 'Pehli Nazar Mein', 'Zara Zara' and 'Race Sanson Mein' - and he smiles, "We have managed to hit the right spots with the film's music. Now it's time for the film to do the talking as well." Race is the biggest multi starrer ever by director duo of Abbas Mustan. Though they have worked with several big stars in the past, this is for the first time that they have six mainstream lead actors on one single platform. They have worked with Akshaye Khanna and Bipasha Basu in the past but this is for the first time ever that they have roped in Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy. "As is always the case with an Abbas Mustan film, here too every character has an integral part to play in the film. Be ready for some surprises coming your way because you actually don't know what is in store for you,” concludes Taurani. Race releases on March 21, 2008 all over.

Top Ten albums of the week

Rank Last week Film Plusses Minuses 1 1 Race It couldn't have been better for TIPS and Abbas Mustan! As the film is just 4 days from it's release, the music of 'Race' continues to dominate from the top. With mot much competition in sight for next fortnight at least, this Pritam soundtrack has won this 'one horse race'! None 2 2 Jodhaa Akbar With the film sustaining quite well at the theaters, the music too has done well for itself and been steady in the charts. A.R. Rahman has another good success to his name. Surprisingly, the film's promotion has slowed down a little just when it seemed that the music would seriously challenge 'Race' at the top 3 3 Taare Zameen Par Not willing to give up, 'Taare Zameen Par' shows that how a classy album can sustain itself even with the likes of 'masala' soundtracks 'Race', 'Om Shanti Om' and 'Jab We Met' running in parallel! None 4 New Jannat Pritam's golden run continues! Even as his 'Race' is doing excellent at the music stands, 'Jannat' has arrived and made a mark instantaneously. The combination of Bhatts, Emraan Hashmi and Pritam has scored a hat trick after 'Gangster' and 'Awarapan'. None 5 6 U Me Aur Hum 'U Me Aur Hum' is back in Top-5 with the fourth song from the film, the title song, already on air. This leaves the 'bhangra' number 'Phatte' as the only one remaining to be unveiled! Vishal Bhardwaj's music typically takes time to grow. For some impatient folks, it may prove to be a hindrance! 6 5 Om Shanti Om 'Om Shanti Om' continues to have it's flip-flop around the middle of the charts. Even though the promotion of 'Om Shanti Om' has come to a virtual stand still, the music still continues to sell. Now that's quite an accomplishment in the times of piracy! None 7 4 Jab We Met For the first time ever since it's arrival into the charts 6 months ago, 'Jab We Met' shows a considerable drop. Seeing a sudden fall by as many as 3 spots, 'Jab We Met' finds itself at #7. However, it doesn't seem likely that it would fall much further in weeks to follow since 'Tashan' is the only notable album in close sight! None 8 8 Welcome Remaining steady at #8, 'Welcome' continues to get a warm welcome, both in terms of music as well as DVD sales. The songs are currently also hot favorite up North considering the ongoing marriage season. An average soundtrack which did bumper business courtesy blockbuster success of the film 9 7 Black & White With the film hardly making an impression at the box office, the music too has seen a drop and is now hanging on at the bottom of the charts. Except for a couple of songs, the music of 'Black & White' doesn't have much of an audience going for it 10 9 Sunday 'Sunday' is now at an edge though lack of any competition whatsoever may mean that it would still manage to have some life! A sustained promotion could have paved way for the music of 'Sunday' to manage better sales Source: Music Festival, MGF Mall

"Rishi uncle looks so much like my dad!" - Deepika Padukone

Download image as wallpaper A self-confessed die-hard Rishi Kapoor fan, Deepika Padukone had to pinch herself when she met her idol, and not as a fan but Rishi's son's girlfriend. "It's amazing. But in his younger days my dad (badminton champ Prakash Padukone) was often told that he resembled Rishi Uncle. I grew up as his big fan, have seen Karz and Kabhi Kabhie number of times. When Ranbir took me to meet his parents, I was re-living my childhood images of the most compatible couple I've ever seen on screen." Ranbir's parents have taken to their prospective daughter-in-law in a big way. "Rishi Uncle is so warm. As for Neetu Aunty, she has an aura of natural grace and charm about her. She's very poised and articulate. I've met her more than I've met Uncle. Me and Rishi uncle are going to be working together. We had a reading together recently. He's so passionate about cinema. I've so much to learn from him. " Deepika is all praise for the Kapoor couple for their children's upbringing. "Both Ranbir and his sister Ridhima have been brought up with the right values. They come from such an illustrious family. And yet they're so down-to-earth. I see many similarities between their upbringing and mine. Though both Ranbir and I were exposed to celebrity situations from childhood, our parents have made sure we're firmly rooted to reality." So is she looking at a life ahead Ranbir? "Right now we both have our careers to focus on. But we're both very comfortable in our relationship. Now that we've come out in the open about our relationship, our parents are very happy. Beyond that it's too early to talk about marriage." Poised, in -command and utterly confident, the 22-year old answers charges of unfair conduct leveled by cricketer Yuvraaj's mother with elegant aplomb. "I really don't think she said anything against me. If she had a grudge she'd call me up and talk to me. I always say that no outside source can know what kind of a relationship two people share. I spoke to her after the statements attributed to her came out. I've always shared a fantastic rapport with her. She's a wonderful and strong person. I've learnt a lot from her. As a woman and mother, I look up to Yuvraaj's mother. She's a multi-tasking mother. She has single-handedly brought up her two children. Yuvraaj is doing extremely well for himself. And his younger brother who has just started out is also doing very well himself. I wish the family all the best."

DVD Review: Sunday

MOVIE DETAILS Cast: Ajay Devgan, Ayesha Takia, Arshad Warsi, Irrfan Khan. Director: Rohit Shetty Producer: Kumar Mangat Music: Sandeep Chowta, Raghav Sachar, Band Surroor, Daler Mehndi, Shivani Kashyap, Amar Mohile Lyrics: Farhad-Sajid, Kamran Bari, Daler Mehndi, Virag Mishra, Aditya Dhar THE FILM Though Sunday was widely touted to be the first major success of the year, it didn't quite go the distance which could have justified it's potential. It did average business theatrically though it deserved better. The promos were excellent, songs were quite popular and the mix of star cast was interesting too. Perhaps the factors which went against the film turning out to be a big hit were a) audience had their ample share of comedies over last few months b) poor suspense element (more about this later)! Sunday is one of the glossiest films made in recent times. With vibrant colors filling the frames, cinematographer Aseem Bajaj came up trumps in Sunday, which boasts of rich visuals. Also notable is Steven Bernard's editing which facilitated a unique story-seeing experience. Especially exciting are the parts when the film oscillates between present times and flashbacks! While the setting remains the same, the actors replace each other seamlessly. An experience, which has to be witnessed to be believed! Suspense element in the film originates from the character played by Ayesha Takia who suffers from intermittent memory loss. So much so that she doesn't remember an entire day in her life - a Sunday! It is upon her cop fiancé (Ajay Devgan) who takes it upon him to unearth the mystery, which saw Ayesha encountering different characters played by Arshad Warsi, Irrfan Khan, Murli Sharma, Shereveer Vakil and Asghar Ali amongst others. Though the basic plot of the film looks at unveiling a murderer and the murder he/she committed, Sunday moves thoroughly on a comic path. This is where Arshad Warsi comes trump as he yet again demonstrated his stranglehold behind the art of making people laugh. No, he doesn't get into a 'Circuit' act again but even as a taxi driver, he brings on a new range to comedy. Irrfan Khan as his 'struggling actor' friend is fun too while ever dependable Ajay Devgan comes up with a good 'masala' act again which requires him to switch between doing daredevil stunts and making people laugh. Sunday is centered on Ayesha's character and she does well too. In fact, she is fun to watch in the parts where she is in a drunken stage or performing mimicry. First half of the film is extremely breezy with laughs all around and one doesn't realize when the interval card is flashed. Second half is good too though focus shifts mainly towards the thrills and action. All could have been perfectly well for the film if the suspense element in the climax was impressive too. Towards the end, the song 'Kashmakash' (picturised on Esha Deol) gets the intrigue element on and the sequence leading to the grand finale is exciting as well. It is the unveiling of the mask off the face of the murderer which turns out to be a sort of anti climax. The reasons are all right, the case behind the execution well justified too - it is the character (and the actor) which kills the impact. This is the exact reason why one feels slightly discontent with the culmination to the film. However, if one leaves aside this aberration apart, Sunday is a fun watch with some foot tapping songs, good stunts and a fast-paced narrative that makes for an enjoyable two hour ride! PACKAGING The film comes in a sleek-n-glossy packing made of plastic and paper combination. DURATION The film comes in a single DVD pack with the film's duration being 130 minutes and added special features spanning 27 minutes. SPECIAL FEATURES The only special features in the DVD are making of the three songs - 'Missing Sunday', 'Pyaar To Hona Hai Hai' and 'Loot Liya'. In this segment, everyone from the principal actors of the film to choreographer (Ganesh Acharya), producer, director and some of the composers/lyricists/singers (Sandeep Chowta, Farhad-Sajid, Mahua) talk about their experience of creating these songs. Showcasing behind the scenes happening as the choreographer and his assistants give instructions to the cast to dance to their movies, 'Making of the songs' turns out to be an ordinary watch which hardly reveals anything new or worth discussing about. TECHNICAL DETAILS - 16:9 Anamorphic Widescreen format - Subtitles in English - Dolby Digital 5.1 and Stereo - Mastered from High Definition (HD) PRICE Rs. 199/- CONCLUSION Director Rohit Shetty loves to make 'masala' movies. And this is something which has been witnessed in each of his three films so far - Zameen, Golmaal and Sunday. Keeping all the commercial ingredients in mind and telling tales which do not tax a viewer and only aim at coming up with an unabashed entertainment in those two hours, Shetty brings in his films all Bollywood mainstream elements like action, romance, drama and suspense on one common platform. Sunday is hardly an exception as it makes a fun viewing. Rating: ***

Mimoh's launch being pushed for suicide?

If the release plans for Jimmy are to be taken on the face value, everyone associated with the film seems to be hell bent on pushing Mimoh's launch as sheer suicide! After being delayed for months in succession, Jimmy seems to be finally getting ready to arrive at theaters. However, shocking as it may sound, but the current date identified for the film's release is 18th April. So what's wrong with that? Well, the film releases just a week before Yash Raj Films biggest and most prestigious projects in recent times - Tashan. Arriving on 25th April, this film directed by debutant Vijay Krishna Acharya is all set to take a record opening at the box office and destroy anything and everything which comes in its vicinity. Looking at this scenario, Jimmy's challenge lies in not just finding an audience for itself but even manage to sustain itself a week after considering the fact that Tashan would be seeing a huge release. Also, the promos of Jimmy which were screened along with Partner last year hardly seemed enticing which only makes the going tougher for the yet-to-debut actor. Are the makers listening?!
