Subhash Ghai's Black & White gets tax exemption in Delhi & Mumbai

Subhash Ghai’s Black & White is tax free now in Delhi. Delhi is the first state who granted tax exemption to Subhash Ghai’s patriotic colored film, Black & White, in its very first week from release because the film has a great message. “It’s great that the film has gone tax free. In fact, it is going tax-free in Mumbai tomorrow. This only goes ahead to work for the film. When I made the film, I never expected this kind of support; I just wanted it to be appreciated.” Other states are supporting the film since its needs to be seen by each and every one. The film is growing at the Box Office too on the strength of its appreciation by word of mouth. Black & White is a story of a terrorist and his journey to accomplish his only mission in life. A journey that lasts for 15 days in the heart of Old Delhi, a journey that changes his life. On asking Subhash Ghai, the post release reaction to the film he says, “People have been calling and I got a lot of appreciation mails as well. It is picking up slowly because initially people were going with the expectation that it is a typical Subhash Ghai film filled with glamour and glitter. The collection is just rising now.” Speaking on his next film, Yuvraaj he said, “It is 50% complete and the film will be slated for a holiday release during Diwali.”

Woolmer's friend plays his role in Jannat

Click above for more stills The death of Bob Woolmer (Pakistan's former cricket coach) was sensational or not, here's Kunal Deshmukh sensationalizing it in his film, Jannat starring Emraan Hashmi. Richard Burton a part-time theatre actor in Cape Town and Woolmer's family friend will be playing the role of Woolmer. Jannat is based on the biggest controversies circling cricket - betting. Kunal confirms that Richard would be made to look like Woolmer and the reason he was chosen to essay the role was because Richard apart from being an actor has also been a part-time coach and coached the Essex team. The film is partially inspired from Woolmer's life and his mysterious death after Pakistan team's defeat at the 2007 Cricket World Cup. It is believed by Woolmer's family that there is a rare possibility of it being a murder considering the fact that he was a very friendly person. Apparently, the character inspired Woolmer would be shown dying in the film as well. Now mysterious or not, one can tell only after the film releases.

"If given a chance, I would love to work with Mani Ratnam Sir and Ashutosh Gowarikar ...

Unconventional looks complimented with the right amount of talent is what it takes to be a part of Subhash Ghai's venture. And Ghai’s new discovery, Anurag Sinha stands true in all. An ex-student of FTTI Pune, Anurag is all made his mark as an actor in with Subhash Ghai’s Black & White, which also has stars like Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah in the lead roles. Anurag Sinha in an interview with Bollywood Hungama shares the experience of being a part of Black & White and working with the Showman of Bollywood. What is running through your mind, considering this is your debut film? Well…my mind is on a roller-coaster ride with all the mixed emotions I am going through. Call it excitement or anxiety but honestly, I am very apprehensive of people’s reaction to my performance. Hence, in order to divert my mind I am talking to you (laughs). What is Black & White all about? Black & White revolves around two protagonists with different ideologies, which clash, and how they make efforts to understand each other. Black & White also showcases the triumph of the two men who in their own rights fight the wrong of the system. The film also beautifully highlights the living culture of Chandni Chowk. What does the title of the film Black & White mean to you? Black-is the color of malice it defines the heart of one of the protagonists and White-defines peace, the pure heart of another. However, the message conveyed through this film encompasses all the seven colors, which implies that not everything in life is white or black. There are other shades of life as well. Black-is the color of malice it defines the heart of one of the protagonists and White-defines peace. About your character… The character of Numair Qazi is very intrigue. He keeps questioning himself and creates the turmoil in his mind. It’s this turmoil that forces him into isolation inspite of being around everyone. It’s his mysterious nature and strong headedness that made me fall in love with the character. It is his mysterious nature and strong headedness that made me fall in love with the character. How did this you bag this role? Do you have a filmy background? I was a stranger to film fraternity until Black & White happened to me. I had done an acting course from FTII, Pune. I got a call from Mukta Arts for auditions and I met Subhashji there. He had apparently, selected my picture among others from all the candidates who passed out from FTII. He signed me for the film soon enough. I guess the tag of FTII put me in a different league as an actor altogether. I am just grateful. How does it feel to have worked with a veteran director like Subhash Ghai in your very first film? Oh! It’s a fantastic experience and a very warm feeling. I still remember back then how I would die to watch his films on weekends. It was an experience of lifetime and I feel fortunate to have worked with a director of such caliber right at the start of my career. I have a high regard for his vision of filmmaking. He understands the capabilities and potentials of an actor so well that acting in his films is like a cakewalk, that’s how easy he makes it. Once he briefs you on a scene, it becomes very simple to envision and deliver his vision on camera. I am just touched by the faith he has in me and I hope I have lived up to his expectations. It was an experience of lifetime and I feel fortunate to have worked with a director of such caliber right at the start of my career. What does Subhash Ghai think of you as an actor? Now, that’s something very difficult to answer. Subhash Ghaiji shows so much of confidence in his actors that at the end of the day one cannot guesstimate or predict his verdict about oneself. Frankly, I think Subhashji will be the better person to answer that. How was it working with your versatile actors like Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah? Both Anilji and Shefaliji have been excellent co-stars. They had tremendous amount of patience to deal with newcomers like me. Anilji is an epitome of spontaneity he was extremely supportive and encouraging. I had seen Shefaliji in Satya and Gandhi My Father and I think she was mind-boggling. Her sensibility as an actor is highly commendable. She is one actor who got into the skin of the character so well that sometimes it was difficult to differentiate the real from the reel. It was a sheer delight to work with actors of such stature. What do you think about the music of the film? Which is your favorite track? The music is simply overwhelming. It’s a mixture patriotic and Punjabi numbers. Although it’s very different from the contemporary songs of today, but Sukhwinder has done a fantabulous job on it. I relate to that kind of soft and romantic music. My favorite tracks are ‘Haq Allah’, ‘Jogi Aaya’, and ‘Main Chala’. Which genre in films you feel is tailor-made for you? Any personal favorite director you wish to work with in future. I feel as an actor I should explore and keep experimenting with different genres. Moreover, I have begun my innings; I would like to work with different directors to prove my acting prowess. According to me, a true actor is the one who gives his 100% to whatever he does and keeps entertaining his audiences in different avatars. However, if given a chance, I would love to work with Mr. Mani Ratnam Sir and Ashutosh Gowarikar Sir. Unfortunately, since I have been busy with Black & White, I haven’t been able to see Jodhaa Akbar yet, am just waiting to see it though. If given a chance, I would love to work with Mr. Mani Ratnam Sir and Ashutosh Gowarikar Sir. Share with us some memorable moments that occurred on the sets. Well, the first 15 days of shoot were completely crazy. The people of Chandni Chowk had gone hysteric seeing Anil and Subhashji. It was a completely new experience for me to shoot in the middle of such chaos. Very often, I would see Anil and Subhashji traveling in rickshaws, which completely changed my perception of stars. They are so humble and down to earth that they looked one with crowd. Nevertheless, the entire unit had a gala time. The most memorable moment was the first day of my shoot when Anilji welcomed me with a big hug, I felt at home since then. The most memorable moment was the first day of my shoot when Anilji welcomed me with a big hug, I felt at home since then. What other projects have been coming your way since the announcement of Black & White? I am anxiously waiting for people’s response to my performance in the film. Until then, I am keeping a low profile. But incase I come across a good script then the world shall know. Right now, my concentration is only on Black & White.

"Saif has been in talks with us for last twelve years" - Abbas Mustan

You can call them the ultimate Khiladi when it comes to thriller genres. Without any Daraar between them, this two brother duo has proved that they are the Baadshah's of Bollywood. Chori Chori Chupke Chupke they have been making suspense movies since 1992 which have kept the audiences on the edge of their seats. They are no Ajnabee to us nor do they wear any Naqaab. I have no Aitraaz in calling them the true Baazigar who have won every time despite some defeats at the box office. But now fasten your seat belts, hold your breath and get ready for the Race of a lifetime. And with Abbas Mustan in the driver's seat, they are sure to cross the chequered flag first this time. Do you think you will win the Race? Hope so. Keeping our fingers crossed. God has been kind to us every time. We have worked hard and have done our bit. The rest is up to the almighty. But the Race isn't over yet. We'll see what happens. Your favourite Akshaye Khanna yet again. Is it right in saying that he is your favourite choice when it comes to suspense thrillers? Yes. He is our favourite choice for thrillers since 2002. But he is playing a character this time which is far more complex compared to Humraaz and Naqaab. Akshaye is a complete all-rounder. He is like a son to us and this is his fourth Abbas Mustan film. We put in the same amount of dedication and commitment behind all our films Out of all your suspense films since 1992, which one came across as the most challenging, the most exciting and the most deserving to win awards? We don't categorize our films nor give labels to them. When we work on any given script, it's a new challenge in itself. We put in the same amount of dedication and commitment behind all our films. It entirely depends on the audiences who after watching our film can tell you whether the film deserves an award, whether it was exciting or not, etc but our approach towards all our films is the same. Anil Kapoor has been in the industry for more than two decades but when on the sets, he works as if it's his first film What has Race got which all your previous films did not have? It's got the pace. Other than that, this is our first big multi starrer. We've never worked with such a big cast before. Plus the youth can identify with the music as it's young and peppy and in sync with today's times. In fact, the title track 'Allah Duhai' and others are already chartbuster hits on all radio stations. The film is made on a grand scale and so the look of the film was carefully selected. From the various stunts to the car and horse race, every bit of it was shot with great style and substance. In short, Race is a quick paced, slick and a stylized film. Saif is in talks with us since last twelve years and hence he readily agreed in the first go after reading and listening to the script Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy. All first timers in an Abbas Mustan film. Didn't you think that this Race will be a bit risky? Not at all. We don't think so. Saif Ali Khan is in talks with us since last twelve years and has shown great interest to work in our films but somehow the opportunity did not arise. So, when we approached Saif for Race, he readily agreed in the first go after reading and listening to the script. We are sure this will be rated as his best performance ever. We share a great rapport with Anil Kapoor too since many years and for him to be part of Race is like a boon to us. He has been in the industry for more than two decades but when on the sets, he works as if it's his first film. Such is his passion and growth. And as far as Katrina Kaif and Sameera Reddy were concerned, we wanted an actress who could define sensuousness which we found in both the actresses. The last time we met was in London in 2006 during your shoot for Mr. Fraud with Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu. Is the film shelved or is it still on? Mr Fraud is very much on. We all know that Sanjay Dutt has resumed shooting for various films. Now the producers of Mr Fraud are short listing the dates in order to go ahead and shoot the remaining 40% of the film. As it is a multi-starer, we require dates from Bipasha, Sanju baba and Ajay as there are very few solo scenes. Hopefully, in a couple of months the shooting will begin and it should be ready by the end of this year. Baazigar, Soldier, Baadshah, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Ajnabee, Humraaz. It's a strange coincidence that all the mentioned films here have had their individual smash hit title song. In fact, there is one hit song in all your films. You have proved it yet again with Race. Is it luck? We do need a bit of luck in all our films but it does not work every time. As Race is a stylish film, we required stylish songs. Personally, we do not have a deep knowledge about music but we totally trust the music director when it comes to the tracks in all our films. Pritam has not let us down. Yes, we then decide later which song suits the script the best and shortlist them. The good thing is that in only one sitting we finalize all the songs. One has to understand that in a thriller genre, the songs are very carefully selected and is a far difficult role for the music director unlike him giving music in a romantic or a comedy film where you can through in a song anywhere and anytime. Music in suspense thrillers have to pack a punch and so does the background score. Race has done exactly that. Are we going to see you and your cast attend music talent shows and reality shows to promote Race because such activities are considered to be an added advantage? All these things you've mentioned is taken care by the promotional and marketing guys of our film Race. They come up with all the strategies and plans to promote the film. Whatever they say and wherever they tell us to go, we have to be free for that. We do things as per their plans. Talent shows and reality shows only help to promote and push the film by reminding the audience to go and watch the film. Finally, it's only up to the audiences to make or break the film. But yes, you will see some of us attend such shows because they do help the film nearing its release. But while making thrillers, what we found out was that the audiences were loving such genres Aren't we ever going to see Abbas Mustan try and make a family drama or a comedy film? It's not that we haven't tried our hands at something different. We did make Chori Chori Chupke Chupke and Taarzan - The Wonder Car. But while making thrillers, what we found out was that the audiences were loving such genres. Only after the feedback we got from various sources, we decided to stick to this particular genre. In fact, Mr Fraud is a comedy thriller where we have experimented with comedy. There is no harm in trying something different but when you know your strengths why take a risk. Did you at all worry about the screen space of Anil, Akshaye, Bipasha, Saif, Sameera and Katrina in Race? No. Actually, in a suspense thriller one has to focus on all the characters equally. We are here to confuse the public, try and make them guess till the end of the film who the culprit is. But at the end of the day it's the script and the individual role which matters. No member from the cast comes up with complaints about them getting less coverage and the other co-star getting more. It's a team work from the smallest to the biggest roles and that's what makes our films special. Do you think the media blowing a lot about the relationship between Saif and Kareena has helped your film Race a lot in terms of promotion? That's untrue. It's up to the individual how they take it. The media has a habit of showing songs and dialogues from the couples latest films like Jab We Met and Race. Then comes the story of their relationship. I think the media has spread like wild fire everywhere. You get out of your house and that's it; the world watches you. Such stories and gossips have nothing to do with the promotion of any film. Yes, the people do get to see songs from the actor's latest film but that's it. What message would you like to give your audiences before the release of Race? Go and watch the film. Race is a larger than life film. Have popcorn in hand and enjoy all the thrills and action and do not leave your brains at home and come to the theatre as you will very much need it. But there is something important which we need to address to the public and that is - Please do not watch Race on pirated Vcd's and Dvd's. Help your Indian Film Industry in the fight against piracy.

Book Review - Chetan Anand - The Poetics of Film

Written in two parts by Chetan Anand's former wife Uma Anand and his elder son Ketan Anand, Chetan Anand - The Poetics of Film is a study in contrast. How exactly? Well, while Part I of the book goes into the nth detail of people Chetan interacted with, his study of cinema and his desire to make movies which not exactly walked the commercial route, Part II appears to be a clear instance of a hurried job where the text comes to an end before one starts warming up to the subject. In short, while most of Part I turns out to be boring study of history, Part II leaves a lot to be desired! What also surprises/to an extent disappoints is a clear case of using Chetan Anand - The Poetics of Film as a forum to pitch Chetan Anand's 1945 release Neecha Nagar to today's world. The 145 page hard bound book goes on an overdrive to tell the world that how the film had won Grand Prix at Cannes in 1946 at the first International Film Festival held after World War II. A film about the freedom struggle of the Gandhian Satyagraha movement, it couldn't see a theatrical release due to its theme. Later when it did find buyers, it was a commercial disaster. First and foremost, one wonders if readers today would really be overtly interested in getting the lowest level detail of what happened 50 years back. Secondly, one isn't clear about the exact purpose behind this story being told. Now if at all it was just one of the many stories in the book, it may still have been understandable but the authors go all out in not just telling the tale as it happened but also publish the exact letters which were exchanged between Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund (which woke up to the film in 1988) and Chetan Anand! On holding the book in hand for the first time, one is quite impressed with its structure, layout and paper quality. The publishers do a great job in giving the book an attractive look. However, the moment one starts turning the pages, interest starts fading away 15 minutes down the line. History, history and lot of history is revealed in names - whether national or international, family or non-family, belonging to intellectual or the world of arts/cinema - which start finding a mention one after another. In fact, Uma Anand goes all out to ensure that not a single name or location is missed out. Now for someone close to the director, it may have been a sort of tribute or homage but for an average reader, it is sheer disinterest which creeps in. Her language and style too is suited for that (select) set of readers who wish to see some serious writing rather than anything which entertains. The only portions which do turn out to be marginally interesting are those where the film's plot and synopsis are revealed along with the challenges that came in the way of getting the film to the completion line and it's release. In this context, Neecha Nagar does make for an engaging read along with Taxi Driver which was the production house's first commercial success. Most interesting though is to read about Dev Anand 'Funtoosh' which boasted of an excellent storyline. The subject is so contemporary that if remade today, it is bound to find an audience. A couple of interesting facts are unveiled about the way films were perceived even way back in the 40s and the 50s. Since Neecha Nagar was experimental cinema with no songs, no dances and no matka-jhatka - as described by the author - audiences were completely dissatisfied and demanded their money back. This was not all as they even smashed the seats. In fact, so unsure were the financers about the commercial prospects of the film that they even demanded an item song and dance to be added to the film. To think of it, this happened more than half a century back and here we blame the audience of today! What's also good is that none of the authors try to hide fact about the box office fate of the films. One realizes that in the initial years of his film making career, Chetan Anand had number of flops one after another. However, this is gracefully accepted by Uma Anand who doesn't even get into an excuse around why the films failed. In the book, one would have liked to know more about what Chetan was as a person and how he actually coped with failure. Also, he did have a family life with brothers like Dev Anand and Vijay Anand and his sons. But to one's surprise, there are hardly any stories covered in both the aspects, hence resulting in the book turning to be an unsatisfactory read. Everyone knows that Dharmendra starrer Haqeeqat is the most defining movie of Chetan Anand's career. Thankfully a reader is taken through the details around the making of the film. In fact what impresses most is the entire story being told through dozens of pictures from the film. Same happens in case of Heer Ranjha and Hanste Zakham too, first of the two color films of Chetan Anand. However, from this point on, Ketan Anand suddenly seems to be loosing interest in writing the book as he hurriedly takes a reader through rest of the pages with just a few sentences each dedicated to many more films and TV serial (Paramvir Chakra) that the director made. What is particularly shocking is the complete omission of Haathon Ki Lakeerein (starring Jackie Shroff, Zeenat Aman, Sanjeev Kumar, Priya Rajvansh) which was the last film that filmmaker had made in 1986! Though Filmography towards the book's end does mention about it in brief with cast and credit details, Ketan Anand chooses to completely skip the film while describing his father's journey as a filmmaker. Moreover, despite the fact that Chetan Anand directed TV serial 'Paramvir Chakra' with actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Farooq Sheikh, Puneet Issar and Gurdas Mann, the event just gets a one page mention followed by a few pictures. Ok, so what exactly was the purpose of this book? One doesn't get an answer right till the end! Chetan Anand - The Poetics of Film turns out to be such a half baked attempt at telling the story of the late filmmaker that one wonders if the authors were really enthusiastic about the whole affair? A sore disappointment! Rating: *1/2

Himesh Reshammiya - The new 'Singh Is Kinng'?

Click above for more stills While Akshay Kumar has been ruling the roost as a reigning Singh Is Kinng, guess who has turned into a Punjabi munda with a vengeance? It is none other than 'sadda' Himesh Reshammiya! Even though he belongs to Gujarati origin, Himesh has developed a sudden fascination for anything and everything which is Punjabi. Reason? His character in his upcoming film M2KNDM2K (Mudh Mudh Ke Na Dekkh Mudh Mudh Ke) is that of a modern boy who hails from Delhi. So much has the actor/composer/singer immersed himself into the character that he has started conversing with everyone around him in Punjabi. Chuckles a source attached to the crew of the film which is currently filming Karzzzz in Cape Town, "Himesh bhai, or shall I now say Himesh paaji, is going an extra mile to get prepared for the character he enacts in M2KNDM2K. Since learning Punjabi doesn't happen in a day or a week, he has already started working on getting the accent right. So much so that he speaks to everyone on the sets in Punjabi only." When contacted Himesh was initially reluctant to talk about his preparation plans for M2KNDM2K. However, he did confess that he was required to pick up the Delhi lingo. He said, "See, you are required to work hard on any role that you play, whether in terms of body language, mannerisms or the way you speak. To add authenticity to the character, it is very important to get the accent right. We all know that Delhites have a very peculiar accent and one can't afford to allow a slip here or there." Himesh goes on to add, "M2KNDM2K is a modern day love triangle and it travels from India (Delhi and Punjab) to Paris. I don't want to miss out on the detailed nuances that a Delhi boy would have in his character and hence have started practicing right away." Mudh Mudh Ke Na Dekkh Mudh Mudh Ke introduces a new leading lady Jenifer Kotwal opposite Himesh. The film also features Niharika Singh for whom this will be her second film with Himesh. M2KNDM2K will be produced by Aditya Singh (of Jagannath Films, earlier partner in Contiloe films) and directed by debutant duo of Seema and Sudhir.

Downloads Race wallpapers Is Bipasha Basu miffed with the producers of RACE? According to a news-report, the sultry actress is upset because the makers are giving more prominence to Katrina Kaif in the promotion of the film. Besides, the makers have filmed a song on Saif and Katrina much after the film was complete, which caught the actress off guard. "Why should I be upset with Tauranis [the producers of RACE]? They've been wonderful all through. The promotion is great, I've no complaints whatsoever," she clarifies. But the new song must've caught her by complete surprise. "Not at all! This song was always there. Initially, it was to be filmed in Durban, then Dubai, but they couldn't film the song for some reason or the other. Ravi Walia's Rising Star Entertainment signs Soham, Sangeeth

Producer Ravi Walia's Rising Star Entertainment is on a director signing spree having signed few top directors to make films for their banner. Bollywood Hungama spoke to Ravi Walia who confirmed the news, "Yes we have signed Soham Shah (of Kaal fame) and Sangeeth Sivan (of Apna Sapna Money Money fame) to direct 2 films for us. The details of the films would be revealed in a week's time. We have also signed some other directors but I can't reveal much now." Ravi Walia currently has three films in the pipeline De Taali, Allah Ke Banday and Fauj Mein Mauj. Talking about the status of these films, he informs, "De Taali starring Aftab, Ritesh, Ayesha Takia and Rimi Sen will be releasing soon. Allah Ke Banday, a film about juvenile crime starring Atul Kulkarni, Sharman Joshi, Naseeruddin Shah and Anjana Sukhani would be out in May and as far as Fauj Mein Mauj is concerned, we will be re-shooting it sometime this year." Fauj Mein Mauj starring Mallika Sherawat in the main lead role was originally directed by Murli Nagavalli but apparently is now being re-shot and directed by Sanjay Chhel. We decided to get the facts straight from the producer's mouth, "We were just not happy with what we had shot. Hence, we decided to re-shoot the film and now Sanjay Chhel would be directing the film. As for the cast Mallika , Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav still remain in the film…However we may have to find some new actors to replace the other cast", said Ravi Didn't the original director then oppose to this move, "No we have taken a NOC (No objection certificate) from him", said Ravi. Lastly, is it true that Rising Star Entertainment has entered into a co-production with Sahara One Motion Pictures, "Yes we have tied up with Sahara One Motion Pictures and in fact we will be holding a press conference in the first week of April, where we will be announcing a bouquet of films," signs off Ravi Walia. With three films already in the pipeline and many more new projects to be announced Ravi Walia surely has his hands full.

DVD Review: Bombay To Bangkok

MOVIE DETAILS Cast: Shreyas Talpade, Lina Christianson, Yatin Karyekar, Manmeet Singh, Vijay Maurya and Naseeruddin Shah (special appearance) Director: Nagesh Kukunoor Producer: Elahe Hiptoola and Rahul Puri Music: Salim-Sulaiman Lyrics: Mir Ali Husain THE FILM Surprisingly, one doesn't expect much from this film in spite of the fact that it brings together Nagesh Kukunoor and Shreyas Talpade in a major way post Iqbal. Though the two had collaborated in Dor as well, the film belonged to its leading ladies Ayesha Takia and Gul Panag. So why was there no expectation from this film? Blame it on its poor pre-release publicity and promotion that resulted in zilch hype. Even en route to its release, the promotion was a patchy effort in making the audience aware about a film called Bombay to Bangkok. The film had the backing of Subhash Ghai who would have hoped for the kind of success that would be an ideal follow up to 'Iqbal'. However, one hears that the master film maker too wasn't very keen on the project as it got ready for its release and the result was that, there were no takers for Bombay to Bangkok. Also, the production values are on the lower side, though Kukunoor and his cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee ensure that the film maintains a neat look throughout, in spite of limited resources. What works most is the love story between Shreyas Talpade and Thai actress Lina Christianson which brings with it numerous cute moments. Their interaction brings on a smile as they try conversing with each other, even though don't understand Hindi and Thai respectively. The film's story line is simple. Shreyas, a cook who comes across a bundle of cash, tries to run away from the underworld and lands in Bangkok where he meets Lina. A medical volunteer by the day and a massage girl in the night, she helps Shreyas in reaching his destination. Shreyas continues to give good performances film after film and comes as a cross between Amol Palekar and Ritiesh Deshmukh. Lina deserves to be seen more often on the Indian screen. Looking cute and glamorous as per the requirement of the scene, she is a picture of confidence and one can imagine that she would have faced the camera for multiple projects in the country of her origin. She also understands the nuances of Hindi film making well and delivers a good performance. Vijay Maurya as a don whose heart beats for rap music is fun to watch and should be seen in more interesting roles in the years to come. The film flopped at theaters but when one goes through the 120 minutes narrative, it turns out to be a lazy, yet decent home video watch. The film raises a few chuckles, brings on some cute and interesting moments, boasts of a couple of original characters and comes to a fairy tale end. Nothing is overdone though, which is good, but the film doesn't go the whole hog either. Yes, one tends to find something amiss with mainly the comedy not being pushed to an extent as one would have thought. Though the script had the scope of some more interesting moments, Kukunoor still holds the strings together to make Bombay to Bangkok a decent watch. PACKAGING The DVD comes in an ordinary paper case with a decent design and layout thereby giving it an eye catchy look. Though there are no props or frills, it is a surprise to read the caption - 'Another Big Hit by Nagesh Kukunoor after the success of Iqbal.' Well, the fact is that this is untrue! DURATION The film comes in a single DVD pack with the film's duration being approximately 120 minutes. SPECIAL FEATURES The DVD doesn't come with any special features. TECHNICAL DETAILS - 16:9 Anamorphic Widescreen format - Subtitles In English - Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 Channel Stereo PRICE Rs. 299 CONCLUSION There are certain films which make for an easy watch on home entertainment. They may not be the best idea for a weekend multiplex retreat but in the comfort of one's home with a familiar couch, they turn out to be decent time pass affair. Bombay To Bangkok is one such film. Rating: **1/2

No game show for Bachchan

Contrary to a report in a tabloid saying the Big B plans to do a game show on Zee TV, the mega-star, currently busy with his various film assignments, has no intention of going into television in the near future. Says a source close to the Bachchans, "Mr Bachchan has no plans for television right now. After the spectacular success of Kaun Banega Crorepati, there was no dearth of assignments on television. At one point, three or four channels were vying for Mr B's exclusive presence. He was even toying with idea of doing a soap on a channel." Television for now is a thing of the past for the Big B. "His heavy work- load and the stress put on his energy level by various professional and social commitments do not permit him the luxury of dabbling in a new medium at the moment. Maybe later. But for now, no television." That puts an end to speculations in the media about the Big B's return to television.
