"We are very confident of Jodhaa Akbar" - Siddharth Roy Kapoor

Download Jodhaa Akbar wallpapers “We are very confident of Jodhaa Akbar and looking forward to people's reactions from Friday onwards,” says Siddharth Roy Kapoor, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Distribution and Syndication, UTV. “I am very upbeat about the film and think that people should go and see it,” he adds, dousing the fire of controversies and the rumours that have afflicted the film off late. The epic love story of Rajput Princess Jodhaa Bai and one of India's greatest rulers ever Akbar deserves a grand premiere. And that's exactly what is slated to happen at IMAX Adlabs in Mumbai where exotic Rajasthani ambience is being created by genius Art Director Nitin Desai. Confirming the news, Kapoor said, “Nitin Desai is working on it and like everything else, he is planning everything to perfection.” Could you elaborate as to what all one can see at the premiere? “It is best that people see it for themselves.” There have been reports that the deal with the multiplexes is yet to be struck. Will the film release there at all? “We are talking to all the multiplex partners and will reach a fair and reasonable solution for both the parties by the time the film releases,” Kapoor says. Considering there have been protests in Rajasthan, will Jodhaa Akbar be releasing there? “We are releasing in Rajasthan.” Is there any specific area in Rajasthan where the film may not release? “We are releasing at all places.” On the hindsight, what are your thoughts on the controversies that have dogged Jodhaa Akbar? “I would want people to watch the film and then reach a conclusion,” Siddharth says. In an era of shorter attention spans, don't you think, at 3 hours 20 minutes, Jodhaa Akbar is a bit too long? “Frankly, if a film holds then it holds for the entire duration. If it doesn't then it doesn't even for a two hour film.” Alright point taken, what about the Tamil and Telugu versions of the film, are they releasing too? “Yes Jodhaa Akbar is being released in Tamil and Telugu as well.” How many prints? “Close to 100 prints collectively.” With the film releasing a day later Valentine's Day, would you call it that it befits the amorous air all around? “At the heart of the film, it's a love story. It's quiet an apt movie for Valentine's Day,” Siddharth Roy Kapoor signs off. Jodhaa Akbar is the labour of love. In an era of rapid fire moviemaking, one man dared to put up an unbelievable canvas and paint a picture out of the colours of blood and sweat. This Friday, the fate of the movie will be sealed and if first impressions are to be believed, it's an eye opening riveting tale. Whatever may be the end result, but one thing is for sure, the Herculean efforts of the entire team of Jodhaa Akbar ought to be applauded. Let the curtains lift…let the show begin…

Emraan Hashmi to star in Warner Bros next production

Emraan Hashmi moves out of the Bhatt fold temporarily for a film that brings Hollywood's Warner Bros to Indian shores for the second time. Their first project in Hindi is Nikhil Advani's Chandni Chowk To China. The second venture sees Warner tying up with Tandav films, of Khosla Ka Ghosla, for a study of intimate human relationships set in Delhi. And Emraan Hashmi gets a total makeover of look image and personality for the part. Finally, after playing the serial kisser in a series of Bhatt films, Emraan is ready to play a fully mature married man with kids. And the producers, not convinced that Emraan could carry off the mellow mature look, are giving him a complete makeover. Emraan admits sheepishly that he is going into a totally different zone this time. He also admits that his attempts to go beyond the Bhatt family fold haven't been so successful. "I did The Train which wasn't by the Bhatts and where I played a married man. So, it isn't as if I haven't played a married man with a family before. I agree such attempts haven't been so successful for me. Films where I've a streak of mystery and mischief are more liked. I haven't been appreciated in my mature roles like Awaarapan. With my new film I hope to rectify that. When writer Jaideep Sahni narrated it to me I immediately wanted to do it. It takes me into areas and emotions I haven't covered before." The untitled film being produced by Savita Raj of Tandav Filmswho produced last year's sleeper hit Khosla Ka Ghosla, also finds the writer Jaideep Sahni moving out of his comfort zone. Jaideep who wrote the two inspirational films Chak De India and Aaja Nachle for Yashraj Films is looking forward to the challenge of writing a film that takes him into a different zone. "This is a commitment from the time I did Khosla Ka Ghosla for Tandav Films. They took two stories from me. This is the second one," says Sahni. Emraan Hashmi will be spending this summer in Delhi shooting this very unusual film directed by Joy Augustine who made his directorial debut with AB Corp Ltd's Tere Mere Sapne and has just completed a film based on the Mumbai train blasts for Sunil Shetty's Popcorn Entertainment.

Jiah Khan opposite Shahid in Ken Ghosh's next

Download image as wallpaper Jiah Khan, the hot bombshell who made her debut opposite none other than Big B in RGV's Nishabd has bagged yet another plum project. The actress has been signed opposite Shahid Kapoor in Ken Ghosh's yet-to-be titled film. This is Jiah's third film. She also stars in the remake of Ghajini alongside Aamir Khan. Interestingly, a lot of names like Amrita Rao and even Kangana Ranaut were being considered to play the lead role but as luck would have it, it was Jiah who finally bagged the role. The film, which is set to be based on music and dance, will have Marty (who has worked with the likes of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears) choreographing some dances. Post Jab We Met, Shahid is surely riding high and with such an unusual pairing, curiosity will certainly be there when the film hits the screens

Mallika Sherawat in another Hollywood film

Download image as wallpaper Bollywood siren, Mallika Sherawat, who earlier acted in an international production, The Myth, alongside Jackie Chan will now star in an American film called The Aquarian Gospel. The film is based on Jesus Christ's life (especially his early years) and will be directed by Australian filmmaker, Drew Heriot, who earlier directed the smash hit docu-feature, The Secret. There has been a belief that Christ, between the age of 13 yrs and 30 yrs, traveled through India, Tibet, Persia, Greece and Egypt. Mallika would be playing the role of Saraswati, one of Yeshua's (Jesus) loyal friends whom he meets while he travels through India. Interestingly, Mallika even played an Indian princess from the period era in The Myth which bombed at the box-office. In fact, Mallika's appearance after all the hue-and- cry was just a blink and a miss kind of a role. Well, let's see if Madame Sherawat has a better and bigger role this time around.

Welcome released in Pakistan

Firoz Nadiadwala's Welcome, which has been a huge hit across the globe, finally released in Pakistan on February 8, 2008. Despite meeting the criteria of the censor board in Pakistan, it was delayed for many reasons. The reason for delay was mainly because of Feroz Khan, who was banned in Pakistan. It may be recalled that Feroz Khan's films were banned in Pakistan following his remarks at a public forum when he had accompanied brother Akbar Khan for the release of Taj Mahal. Though the censor board in Pakistan finally cleared the film, it had ordered few cuts in Feroz's dialogues and scenes. The Indian Film Company, the worldwide distributors of Welcome, had to lobby hard through its Pakistani distribution agents to get the film cleared for the release. According to The Indian Film Company, Pakistan is a lucrative country and they will try to release all their films over there.

"There's nothing wrong in my marriage" - Emraan Hashmi

A news report about trouble in his marriage has Emraan Hashmi far from fazed. At least, he's outwardly calm. Taking a deep breath he says, "My wife didn't react to the story at all. My marriage isn't so brittle that it'd crumble because of one article. I admit there would've been problems if she didn't trust me. And if she felt there was any truth to it (about Emraan's extra-marital affair), my wife would walk out of the front door" Emraan's mentor Mahesh Bhatt was also brought into the story as the mediator. "I saw it. Then I shut it and went off to work. My wife saw the story with me. She didn't react at all. I'm honest in my marriage." Emraan is unable to pinpoint where the story emanated from. "I just saw what they had written. I moved on. My wife is with me. And that's what counts. No trouble in my jannat. We completed a year of marriage in December. There have been ups and downs. We were friends from long before marriage. So, we understand each other. We share everything. It's a relation of trust. And that trust remains unbroken. From the day I came into the industry I was ready for this kind of thing. This line isn't for the faint-hearted. As for my wife, I've trained her. This isn't the first whiff of a scandal in our life together. As I said, we trust each other." Emraan has been lying really low. "After Awaarapan I was busy with my next film Jannat. Now that the film is almost done I've been shuttling around, traveling editing. It isn't as though I keep away from the media. But I feel my work gives me a greater satisfaction. I'd rather talk about my work." Jannat goes in the forbidden territory of cricket -fixing. "It's directed by debutant Kunal Deshmukh. It's very topical. At its center is the relationship between my character and the woman in his life and the compromises that I make to become successful. My character adopts both fair and unfair means to be affluent. The film's wallpaper is the cricketing world. I play a small- time gambler who flourishes as a better and match-fixing." The Bhatts have been inspired by the book Fallen Heroes from Tehelka. "I was never a diehard cricket fan. But I was completely fascinated by this account of the way cricketers are blackened,” says Emraan. Last year, Emraan was making a concerted effort to move away from the Bhatt camp. "But this year, I'm doing two movies with them. I'm starting from scratch with Jannat. It's a very important film to me. That devious naughty streak which audiences like was missing my last major film Awaarapan. I was portraying very middle-aged emotions. Now in Jannat I've consciously decided to not be that serious.” The serial-kisser is back in Jannat. "There's a new girl Sonal in Jannat with me. I don't enjoy the image of the serial kisser, not after being kissed by a man in a mob once. The image hounds me." Even Emraan's wife doesn't enjoy the kisser's reputation. "But right now after trying to change my image in Awaarapan I crave only for a hit. I want the box-office at any cost." After Jannat, Emraan has another film Bhatt film lined up. "It's Raaz 2. We aren't sure if it will be a sequel to the first Raaz. We're still scripting. But the eerie hysteria of the first part will persist. As for my private jannat (marriage) so far so good.” Parenthood? “I'm too immature for it right now.”

Mahesh Bhatt to make a documentary in English

That Mahesh has decided to return to direction ten years after the searing Zakhm with the express purpose of depicting the life and teachings of his spiritual guru U.G. Krishnamurthy is a fact has several interesting offshoots. Mahesh is a life-long devotee of UG's beliefs. To put his thoughts on celluloid would be his most ambitious project to date. For one the film will be in English. Says Mahesh, "It has to be in a language that would reach out to the maximum number of people. I want UG's teachings to be universally accessible, hence my decision to return to direction. But first, my book on UG which is ready to come out.' The book entitled U.G. Krishnamurthu: A Life releases in August. "It's the story of those glowing hours that I spent with him. It's a story that has to be told. But before the movie, it has to appear in print. This tale of the cosmic terrorist who lived and died alone is a spectacular story. I hope I can tell it effectively." The never-say-die creator has seldom sounded so nervous and anxious in recent times. Elaborating on the book, Mahesh says, "It contains a section of my diary jottings entitled 'Taste Of Death'." He plans to write another portion of his diary jottings entitled 'The Taste Of Life.' The big question about the movie? Who will play UG the spritual healer? Says Mahesh, "I guess my gaze has to go beyond Indian shores. It has to be cast properly. Or the film dies stillborn. If the film will ever be made it'd in the English language. But I suspect I'd rather make a documentary than a feature film on UG. My desire to manufacture illusions has ebbed. I don't want to mystify him. UG was a human being. Fiction and films tend to exaggerate. And given a choice I'd rather do a documentary which is far truer to the truth about the person. I'm hoping the book with end the fire within me to put the truth about UG in front of the world."

Anubhav Sinha plans 20 crore film on Rajiv Gandhi's assassination

Political films may not be the order of Friday in Bollywood…not when slick flicks about neta-giri like Govind Nihalani's Dev and Mani Ratnam's Dil Se have come and drowned. Lately, we had Jagmohan Mundhra trying unsuccessfully to put together a bio-pic on Sonia Gandhi. And yet political thrillers are a favoured genre. Mani Shankar who made one of Bollywood's early films 16 December from that genre is ready with Mukhbiir, a slick-fest about a young government spy's attempts to foil a politician's assassination. Now it's (political) party-time for Anubhav Sinha who made Dus, one of the slickest espionage thrillers on this side of The Day Of The Jackal. Anubhav whose last film Cash crashed is ready to roll with a very hush-hush project that will blow the lid on the controversies and conspiracies behind the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. Anubhav and research team have been gathering material for months on the entire complex manoeuvres that resulted in the shocking death of Rajiv. They've apparently chanced upon some startling and hitherto-unrevealed facts on the gruesome tragedy. "It's true," Anubhav confesses. "I'm doing a feature film on this subject. It would be an entire celluloid investigation of Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, tackling questions that were never asked, let alone answered. I hope to shoot and complete the film by the end of next year." Anubhav is hopeful that the Gandhi family would be brought into the loop for the project. The crucial question of who'll play Rajiv is irrelevant to the director at the moment because the film begins where the protagonist's life ends. However, Anubhav hopes to rope in a huge star like Sanjay Dutt or Abhishek Bachchan to play Rajiv Gandhi.

Well, there's a slight change now. UTV has decided to release the Hindi version on the scheduled date, but push the Tamil and Telugu versions to a latter date. “That's true,” Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV confirms, “We've decided to defer the release of Tamil and Telugu versions by 3 weeks. The Tamil and Telugu versions will now release on 6th March. The reason for the deferred release is, we want to promote the South versions further. Also, if the film works in a big way [which it should], the Tamil and Telugu versions would only stand to benefit.” Meanwhile, UTV is releasing the historical in approx. 1,500 screens in 26 countries. “It'll be the biggest ever release for a Hindi film in U.S. [125 screens], while U.K. will see around 70 screens. We're covering the domestic [India] market with 825 prints,” Siddharth adds. Meanwhile, a lavish premiere of the film will be held on Thursday night at a suburban multiplex of Mumbai.

'Singh Is Kinng' preponed by one week

Download Singh Is Kinng wallpapers Numerology plays an important role in the industry. And the biggest [and most successful] names believe in it. Take the case of SINGH IS KINNG, one of the keenly-anticipated films of 2008. Producer Vipul Shah's Akshay - Katrina starrer, directed by Anees Bazmee, was initially slated for release on 15th August, but has now been preponed by one week. Yes, you read it right -- the film will hit the marquee on 8th August now. Reason for the preponement? “Akshay and I feel the number 8 suits us well. It has been lucky for both of us in the past, which is why we decided that 8th August would be a far more appropriate date for our film,” Vipul Shah tells me. Meanwhile, August seems to be a crowded month. While SINGH IS KINNG is confirmed for 8th August, the much-awaited Abhishek Bachchan starrer DRONA, directed by Goldie Behl, is expected to arrive on 15th August. Also, there're whispers that Yash Raj's Ranbir Kapoor starrer, directed by Siddharth Raj Anand, is scheduled for release in August. “We are through with more than 65% of the shoot. August is what we're looking at,” Siddharth Raj Anand confirms.

Top Ten albums of the week

Rank Last week Film Plusses Minuses 1 2 Race Pritam has done it again! After a faux pas in the form of 'My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves', he has struck back with 'Race' that has seen three chartbuster songs in a row - 'Race Sanson Ki', 'Pehli Nazar Mein' and now 'Zara Zara'. Within 3 weeks of it's arrival, 'Race' now occupies the top slot! Challenge now is to continue to be at the top. With the film still being around 50 days away, most of the strength of 'Race' has already been exposed 2 3 Taare Zameen Par Moving up by a spot, 'Taare Zameen Par' is now t #2. Would it make it to the top slot? Looks difficult since 'Race' has seen an escalation in a big way. However, the project would continue to be in news for long since the DVDs are about to hit the stands. None 3 1 Jab We Met 'Jab We Met' sees a surprise fall by a couple of spots but still remains in Top-3. It would be even more surprising if it falls any further though 'Jodhaa Akbar' is showing some serious move up into the charts. None 4 7 Jodhaa Akbar In a week before it release, 'Jodhaa Akbar' finally manages to at the least reach the Top-5 of the charts. 'Kehne Ko Jashne E Baharaa Hai' is the number that has caught on most when compared to the rest of the album. With music not at the top even as the film is hardly a few days away, it's eventual success now is completely dependent upon the film's success 5 4 Welcome When a number which sounds as 'Kola Laka Velari' goes on to be beamed across music channels, you know that the album has been accepted, and that too in a bug way, by the audience. With the film as well as the music being successful, watch out now for the DVDs which would be hitting the stands in the Indian market soon. Even Anand Raaj Anand and Himesh Reshammiya may not have imagined that some of their most average songs would find a flavor amongst the audience 6 6 Om Shanti Om Staying on at the brink of Top-5 of the charts, 'Om Shanti Om' does maintain decent sales even till date. No new notable albums releasing for a large part of the next couple of months would mean that the album would complete a six months successful run. None 7 5 Sunday Seeing a fall by a couple of spots, 'Sunday' has now started loosing flavor at the music stands. After an initial euphoria caused by the songs, 'Sunday' has best managed to be instant coffee. The film hasn't worked to it's potential and that has adversely impacted the longevity of music too 8 8 Dus Kahaniyaan Frankly there is not much happening at the music stands currently. Each of the three albums at the bottom of the charts is mainly by default since there is nothing new being offered to the audience. The sales too are mainly on the lower sides, though 'Dus Kahaniyaan' is still the best of the lot. Gourov Dasgupta, composer of majority of songs, deserved to be better promoted 9 9 Superstar 'Superstar' has just not been able to show any escalation even with minimal competition around. With the film already released last weekend, next couple of weeks would decide the eventual fate of the album. 'Man Tu Talbat' could well have been the anchor number of the album. However, the song hasn't been churned to it's full potential. 10 10 Goal Yet another album to stay on mainly by default, 'Goal' composed by Pritam manages to be alive into the charts. For a soundtrack where title song 'Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal' could have gone an extra distance, the music company had to rely upon 'Billo Rani' to propel the sales Source: Music Festival, MGF Mall

Sanjay Dutt and Manyata finally tie the knot

It was an event that was (eagerly) waiting to happen! We are indeed talking about the Sanjay Dutt-Manyata wedding. After days of speculation about their wedding, Dutt ultimately silenced everyone by tying the knot with Manyata, his girlfriend of two years, under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, in front of a few close friends as witnesses. The location chosen was The Taj Exotica Hotel in Goa. The marriage ceremony took place even as Dutt was shooting in Goa for EMI, which is being made under Sunil Shetty's Popcorn Entertainment productions. Dharam Oberoi, the CEO of Sanjay Dutt Productions, has supposedly done the ritual of 'kanyadhaan'. Besides Oberoi, other witnesses included Oberoi's daughter, Neha Oberoi, and Sanjay's close friends Bunty Walia, Ajay and Prashant.
