Govinda gives away title to comedy

A lot is being written and said about Govinda persuading writer-director Neeraj Vora to change the title of his comedy Run Bhola Run to Do Lucky. But no one knows that the alternative title belonged to Govinda. "That's right," laughs the actor on Tuesday morning, bright and early, as he prepares to leave for his shoot. "Do Lucky was a title registered with my production company Govinda Entertainment. I suggested it to Neeraj in place of Run Bhola Run and he gladly accepted it. See, Run Bhola Run sounded too much like a sequel to Bhagam Bhag. I told Neeraj he might as well call his film Bhagam Bhag 2. Just because you put two 'runs' in the title it doesn't mean the film will run," jokes Govinda. In fact, the title for Ravi Chopra's Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai was also suggested by Govinda. "They had some problems with the other title Pappu Paas Ho Gaya. I thought Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai is far more appropriate." Govinda has also been accused of stalling the shooting while a numerologist was summoned on the sets of Neeraj Vora's film to change the title. "Why would I summon anyone else?' reasons Govinda. "I'm a very good numerologist myself. In fact, many years ago when I started my career I changed my name from Govind to Govinda and it worked."

"My attitude to my career remains unchanged" - Aishwarya Rai

Download image as wallpaper Aishwarya Rai is flooded with offers for films. But her priorities right now are slightly different. She wants to focus on her family duties while doing very selective work. Says a source very close to her, "Even about Pink Panther she wasn't sure, what with Mrs Teji Bachchan being so critically ill. Aishwarya didn't want any distraction from her family duties. It was Abhishek who urged her to take up the offer. Now she's ready to sign a couple of films. But she will choose very carefully. " Producer Rohan Sippy's film directed by Sriram which is supposed to bring the never-before pair of John Abraham and Aishwarya Rai is awaiting the leading lady's approval. Though the shooting for the untitled love story has commenced with John, Aishwarya's nod is still awaited. And the only reason why she hasn't given the green signal is because the director hasn't come up with the script yet. Says a source close to the project, "Ash has always been very close to the producer Rohan Sippy. After all she met and got to know Abhishek on the sets of Rohan's Kuch Na Kaho. Since then she and Rohan have always been close. When this project with Sriram Raghavan came up, Aishwarya's dates were a problem. Rohan flew down to Boston where she was shooting for her Pink Panther movie to convince her. Touched by Rohan's sincerity she immediately said yes. However, she made it clear that she would like to see the script." Months have passed but no script. Sriram was busy finishing Johnny Gaddar and then sorting his projects out. Continues the source, "Though Ash has heard Sriram's idea and loves it, she has always insisted on a script from the start of her career. Remember how years ago Indra Kumar got pissed off with her because she had asked for a script before saying yes? Ash remains unchanged in her professionalism. Whether it's a completely professional arrangement with Indra Kumar or a friendly producer like Rohan Sippy, she wants the script." Pooh poohing stories of how she was distracted and distracting on the sets of Jodhaa Akbar the source says, "If anything Ash is today even more professional than she used to be before marriage. Forget about causing distractions by bringing guests to Karjat where Ashutosh was shooting, or not giving Hrithik Roshan his cues while he was emoting, Ash wouldn't even speak to her husband on the phone while shooting." Sriram's film is crucial for Ash because after Jodhaa Akbar and Pink Panther this would be the only film she's signing. Concludes the source, "Some people are suggesting that Aishwarya's dates for Sriram Raghavan's film are a difficulty. Not true. She has already set aside a large chunk in the first quarter of 2008 for this film. The problem is the script. She's still waiting for it." Aishwarya who's just back from a wedding in Jaya Bachchan's family in Bhopal remains the same. "My attitude to my career remains unchanged. I remain the same. It's people around me who imagine I've become a different person. They insist on portraying me the way they perceive me to be in their minds. And never mind if they're way off the mark. One report says I'll be performing the Salsa at a soap-sponsored event. Does that look anything like me?"

Shekhar Kapoor to start his next film, Paani

The death of the 28-year old Australian superstar Heath Ledger has had severe repercussions on the entertainment industry, particularly on Shekhar Kapoor who was apparently the last person to speak to Heath before the actor's tragically premature death. "That's what I gather. I believe I'm the last person Heath spoke to that night before his death. And the press in New York got to know of this. The press out there started to hound me. My phone wouldn't stop ringing in New York. I had to cut short my visit and return to Mumbai," said Shekhar on Monday morning, hours after he landed up. Remembering his short-lived association with Heath Ledger, Shekhar recalled, "Heath wasn't just the star of my film Four Feathers. He was a lot more. He was a very dear friend. We connected regularly and shared our problems. In fact, on the evening before he died we were supposed to meet. But he expressed an inability to meet and suggested we fix up another time the next morning. But in the morning he was gone! Such is life!" sighs the filmmaker just back in Mumbai and getting ready to direct his new film, this time set in Shekhar's favourite city, Mumbai. The futuristic look at Mumbai entitled Paani will probably be the most expensive film Shekhar will produce. "It'd require a creation of a whole city with two levels, one for the super-rich and the other for the underprivileged." The cast is now being seriously looked at. Shekhar is most probably collaborating with UTV for this venture. His other sleeper project Time Machine will now be directed by Rakeysh Mehra. The buzz is that Ranbir Kapoor will be playing the young lead that was once offered to Aamir Khan. "Nothing has been confirmed yet. I'll let you know as soon as things fall into place", promises Shekhar.

'Jaane Kahan Se Aayee Hain'

Well-known writer Milap Zaveri is ready to take the plunge. After writing a number of successful films, the talented writer is ready to don a new role -- direction. Milap's directorial debut, tentatively titled JAANE KAHAN SE AAYEE HAIN, will star Ritesh Deshmukh, Ayesha Takia and Ruslan Mumtaz [who made his debut in MERA PEHLA PEHLA PYAAR] in lead roles. Nikhil Advani and Mukesh Talreja will produce the film, which is expected to roll in August/September. “Three people were instrumental in helping me take this big step. Ritesh and I had developed a great rapport in Australia, when he was shooting for HEYY BABYY. I owe a lot to him. Sajid Khan allowed me to learn the ropes of filming during the Australia schedule. I keenly observed the entire process of HEYY BABYY and Sajid was gracious enough to allow me to be his assistant. The third person is, of course, Nikhil Advani. I generally discuss my scripts with him and when I narrated the plot of this film to Nikhil, he promptly said that he'd like to produce it. I was speechless… and flattered,” Milap reminisces. What's JAANE KAHAN SE AAYEE HAIN all about? “It's a romantic-comedy with the fantasy element thrown in and lots of visual effects. It's aimed at the youngsters and families,” he divulges. Any inspirations? “I haven't copied any film. If there're any references, it could be because the genre is attempted abroad, not in India. The moment the idea germinated, I started working on it,” Milap admits.

90 crores?

Download Jodhaa Akbar wallpapers Movie prices have hit the roof. With OM SHANTI OM and WELCOME fetching astronomical prices from buyers and also faring exceptionally well at the ticket window, the pricing of forthcoming films is only going higher and higher with each passing day. The latest is, a leading industrial house has pitched for JODHAA AKBAR. Reportedly, the industrial house has offered Rs. 90 crores for the global distribution rights of the film, inclusive of the lucrative satellite rights. “Really? Is that the rumor doing the rounds of the industry?” Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV breaks into a big smile, when you question him about it, “It's not true. We haven't been offered that amount by anyone.” But what if there's an offer, will UTV accept it? “We haven't taken a stand yet. It all depends on who makes the offer. After all, JODHAA AKBAR is our baby and our prime concern is to give it the best possible release,” Siddharth states. Suniel Wadhwa of UTV corroborates, “In any case, there's not much time left [the film is fixed for February 15]… the period is too short for anyone to step in. The promotion is in full swing, the publicity material has been dispatched to theatres. Under these circumstances, it would be next to impossible to incorporate the logo of the company on the publicity material. It's not feasible,” he reasons rightly.

SRK joins the league of Celine Dion, Leonardo Di Caprio

Click above for more stills What would you get when you combine the Brand Ambassador of Romance and the God's very own Kingdom of Love? The answer is 'Rendezvous'! This is exactly what had taken place at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai, when the French Embassy, in collaboration with Unifrance inaugurated the 1st Rendez-vous with French Cinema. The USP of the event was undoubtedly the 'Brand Ambassador of Romance' Shah Rukh Khan himself, who was conferred the prestigious 'Insignia of Officer in the Order of Arts & Letters'. With this, the King Khan joins the league of the previous awardees like Arundhati Roy, David Bowie, Celine Dion, Bob Dylan, Leonardo Di Caprio, Robert Redford to name a few. Also, present on the occasion were Verenioque Cayla, Managing Director-CNC, Jerome Seydoux-Chairman of Pathe. Even though the event was nothing short of a visual treat, but what really took the cake was the Q & A round with the King Khan. Needless to say that SRK was in his elements and was ready with an answer (read 'repartee') to every question, even before the question would have popped up in the person's mind. When asked about his take on the French cinema, SRK said "It's just a beginning. I feel too humble for this huge honour. I feel that I am taking the Indian Cinema much beyond as a career." He also drove home a few examples to explain that cinema is cinema, irrespective of the language. Not only that, SRK also got nostalgic about his first ever visit to France (which was for Devdas) and the second time for Veer Zaara. When asked about his popularity in France and his acceptance, he resembled a personified version of humbleness and modesty, as he said that "It's not me who is popular in France. It's the Indian Cinema which is popular and I am just a part of the Indian Cinema!" He also did not rule out the possibility of a French film, but with a right script and at the right time! Echoing SRK's sentiments and statements was His Excellency Jerome Bonnfont, the Ambassador of France in India, who said "We want to marry the Indian and the French cinema, which will take some time, but, will happen for sure!" He also added that this kind of 'Rendez-Vous' will happen every year.

Girls College named after Aishwarya Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan laid the foundation of a girl's college in the name of his daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai, at Barabaki in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Barabaki is the same place where Big B got a clean chit two months ago in a controversial land purchase, from Allahabad High Court. The entire Bachchan family along with Samajawadi Party leader, Amar Singh and Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav was present at the occasion of 'Bhumi Pujan', which also happened to be on the day of Samajawadi Party leader general's birthday. Speaking at the occasion, Aishwarya said that she was grateful to her family for giving her this honour. In addition to that, present at the occasion were United National Progressive Alliance leaders including the Telugu Desam Party's N Chandrababu Naidu, National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah, INLD Chief Om Prakash Chautala and actress-turned-politician Jayaprada. Along with the large number of people, were the SP workers wearing red caps chanting slogans for the Bachchans, Mulayam Singh and other leaders.

Rakesh Roshan will direct another Krissh film

What will he direct next? Rakesh Roshan has more or less decided to make another super-hero film. "But we've to make sure that the screenplay goes beyond what we did in Koi…Mil Gaya and Krissh. And also all the other super-hero films that have come from Hollywood lately. The genre, I feel has been done to the optimum. The fight between a super-hero and a super-villain has to be pitched right. The content has to be really strong." Hrithik had expressed a desire to play the super-villain. "But that is not possible," laughs Rakesh Roshan. "We need another big star to play the super-villain. The fight has to be evenly pitched." But before that in June, Rakesh Roshan starts his film with Anurag Basu. "He's very talented. I saw his Gangster and Metro. He definitely has a great script-sense." Although the trailers of Rakesh Roshan's production, Krazzy 4 were supposed to start from Friday, enthusiastic exhibitors in Mumbai began screening the trailers from Wednesday. "I've had a tremendous response." Rakesh Roshan denies there was any problem between him and Shah Rukh during the item song that they shot for Krazzy 4 earlier this week. "There were two costumes to be changed, and we did them. He finished it with much grace. It's come out really well. Now Hrithik will be shooting the same song in February. But while Shah Rukh's version will be in the film, Hrithik's will be for the promotion and then in the end-titles." Rakesh Roshan says Krazzy 4 has shaped up really well. "And I'm proud to say my daughter Sunaina is the co-producer. She attended all the shootings and was there hands-on in the project."
