Anupam starts shooting Hawai Dada at Tachmarhi

If you've never heard of Tachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh don't be embarrassed. That's where Anupam Kher is shooting his home production Hawai Dada with Tinu Anand and an “incredible child artiste"(Anupam's description) named Gargi. It's the story of an old man and his grand-daughter. Looks like films with sensitive children in the forefront are in vogue after Taare Zameen Par. Anupam is having the time of his life. "I've never seen a place so unspoilt and the people so unaffected. After seeing Tachmarhi, I've decided to do a Bharat Darshan every year, visit places no one has heard of, like Tachmarhi." An incredible thing happened to Anupam on the way to Tachmarhi. "I stopped at this mithai ki dukaan which seemed to be selling authentic mithai. Soon people from the locality began gathering around me. I started chatting up with the owner of the sweet shop. He revealed he was the grandson of the renowned Hindi poet Pandit Makhanlal Chaturvedi who has written one of my favourite poems ‘Pushp Ki Abhilasha’. It just goes to show that sweetness can be discovered in the most unexpected places." Not so sweet is Anupam's tryst with a luna mo-ped. "We needed my character to ride a luna that's totally outdated and out of shape. They got me a two-wheeler whose life span expired ten years ago. This luna is driving me loony."

Original song in new 'Karzzz'

Click above for more stills Himesh Reshammiya's second outing KARZZZ continues to make news-n-noise, even though director Satish Kaushik and producers Bhushan Kumar and Kishen Kumar have yet to embark on a major shooting schedule of the reincarnation film in South Africa and Kenya. While a lot has been said, spoken and written about the remake of Ghai's KARZ, here's something you didn't know. The makers of KARZZZ have decided to retain the signature tune of the film, which plays in the background the moment the protagonist remembers his punar janam. “It's a haunting tune and all of us decided that we should use it in the remake as well,” Satish Kaushik tells me. While Himesh has already recorded fresh songs for the remake, there's one song that they've decided to retain from the original -- 'Ik Haseena Thi, Ik Deewana Tha' -- which comes at the climax of the film. While on KARZZZ, Himesh is participating in acting workshops to get the character right. After all, not just the film or its music, even Himesh's performance will be viewed with a magnifying glass and compared to the power-packed performance that Rishi Kapoor pitched in, in the original.

"I'm not a rock star. I'm an actor playing the guitar" - Saif

Saif is unhappy with his rock concert being held at the Andheri Sports Complex. 'Even Beyonce can't fill up the Andheri Sports Complex in India. You can't have 3000-4000 people in such a huge place. It looks like a small gathering. I'd have preferred a more intimate environment. Better that we should've played at Poison or some such night club. But it was a good fun. The people who came loved the music so much, it was worth it." For Saif one of the perks of playing live with a rock band in Mumbai on Sunday evening was having his children in the audience watching him play. "I'm not a rock star. I'm an actor playing the guitar. My son and my daughter had a good time. And that was enough for me. It was nice to showcase my abilities on the strings. Parikarama are a great band. And I had fun." But did Saif's kids enjoy a retro-rock performance by their dad? "Sarah said she hates Rock, but loves me. That's why she enjoyed it." But Saif didn't miss Kareena at the Bangalore and Mumbai gigs. "She's constantly with me. No need for her to be present with me physically." Out of the four scheduled gigs in the four metros Saif has already completed two. "Both Bangalore and Mumbai were really good. However, we're averaging like 4000-5000 people per gig. And that's the audience for a closed auditorium or maybe a club, not a stadium. The concerts should've been done indoors like those small rock bands that play in the night club." Saif found the audience in Bangalore more receptive. "They were more passionate about rock music. They made a lot of appreciative noises. Like I said, the same number of people in a club would've been really terrific. I mean, come on…we can't be put on a platform meant for Led Zepplin! Anyway, Bangalore was fun. I believe the same is true of Kolkata where we perform next. Bombay is more into films. Delhi too has some great rockers. " After the gigs in Kolkata on Feb 25 and Delhi on 27 Feb, Saif is done with rocking for now. "I'd love to keep playing. Maybe once in a while at some club, and become a good guitarist. But looking at the gigs, they're part of my contract with Seagram's. I've to work eight days a year with them. It's a professional obligation that happens to be a lot of fun. But for now, I've had enough. It's not as tiring as dancing on stage for the Bollywood shows. It's just 8 songs in 30 minutes. But after a while the hand starts aching."
