Rang De Basanti brand of liquor banned in Punjab

The Aamir Khan starrer Rang De Basanti sure did create a lot of buzz when it released in 2006. The film, which achieved both critical and commercial acclaim, is now back in the news but this time for a completely different reason. Apparently, a local country liquor brand named Rang De Basanti, faced protests in the state of Punjab by supporters of martyr Bhagat Singh, just two days after it was launched in the market. The supporters opposed the name as it's derived from a famous poem by legendary freedom fighters, Ram Prasad Bismil and Bhagat Singh. The Punjab Government immediately stepped into action and Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal ordered immediate withdrawal of the spirit from the market. Excise and Taxation commissioner of Punjab Mr. S .S. Brar also regretted the name given to the liquor brand and then company is now withdrawing nearly 4000 bottles of the brand from the market. Surely, the name Rang De Basanti, for a liquor brand didn't go down in the right spirit with the local people of Punjab.

Neil Mukesh signs Freeze and Frame

The two new films that Neil Nitin Mukesh has signed have peculiar titles. "One of them is called Fame while the other is tentatively titled Freeze. I guess audiences expect unusual titles from me after Johnny Gaddar and my next release Tera Kya Hoga Johnny", laughs Neil who turned 26 this week. Forget the staid family-oriented good-boy image that Neil Mukesh has cultivated even after playing the roguish double-dealing Johnny Gaddar. On his 26th birthday on Jan 15 Neil Mukesh decided to really let his hair down. "Well on the night before my birthday, I was with my family. My brother who's ten years my junior, has his board exams coming up. So I've been keeping up late nights with him, trying to coach him overtime. So, the birthday eve was a quiet family affair." But the next day Neil whooped it up with the babes. "Don't ask me where how and when. And I'll tell no lies. But I cast aside my good-boy image on my birthday night," Neil laughed wickedly. He has also gifted himself some brand new roles. "There's Tigmanshu Dhulia's Fame about how the young today are ready and willing to take any road as long as it gets them money. It's about the shortcuts to a bulky bank balance taken by youngsters, again a moral fable like Johnny Gaddar. Maybe producers see me as the good boy gone to seed." Another day another role. Neil Mukesh has also bagged his own super-hero flick, thereby creating an atmosphere of more comparisons with Hrithik Roshan. Neil demurs, "The film from Eros tentatively titled Freeze is going to be directed by debutant Jehangir Surti. It's about a man who sudden comes upon a supernatural power and how it changes his life. Lots of FX and yes, one more morality tale." But the first one out will be Sudhir Mishra's Tera Kya Hoga Johnny. "It's an episodic look at the life of a street child named Johnny. I come into one of the episodes." Tell him it's bizarre that his first two films have 'Johnny' in their titles and he laughs. "Yeah it is rather uncanny. And when I was a child I'd often call myself Johnny for no apparent reason." Turning pensive at a family on his birthday Neil sighs, “I already feel old. At 25, I felt young. At 26, I feel I've crossed the age where I could be a kid. Johnny is no longer Papa's kid."

Mithun and Bappi's sons team up for Jimmy

Sunil Shetty, who has signed the star-son for Loot, thinks Mimoh dances like a dream. Mithun Chakraborty's son whose debut film Jimmy releases in February proved he had inherited his dancing skills from his father when he danced for 50 days for one song sequence in his debut film Jimmy. The thought of refurbishing and pepping up Mimoh's debut film with a lavish item song came from the concerned father Mithun himself. When Mithun-da saw the finished product with his old friend Raj Sippy directs, he thought something else needed to be added to the product, hence the item song. The shy newcomer describes the number 'Marhabba Yeh Rab MeraRooth Gaya', choreographed by Nadeem Khan, as the most exhilarating start any newcomer can hope for. "I don't know if I dance half as well as Anna Sir (Suniel) or my Dad thinks. But the number which we rehearsed and shot over a stretch of fifty days just made me feel so proud to be where I was and of my Dad's legacy that I'm carrying forward." Shooting this baap of all item songs was a journey in time for Mithunda's baba. "The song was choreographed by Nadeem Khan who has done many of my father's songs and it was composed by Bappa Lahiri, Bappida's son. When I remember all the songs that Bappida and my dad teamed up to create history, I get goosebumps. In fact, my debut film's title Jimmy comes from a chartbuster composed by Bappida for dad." Bappa and Mimoh are buddies. "And hopefully some of our dads' magic has rubbed off on both of us," says Mimoh hopefully as he waits nervously for D Day. And while Mimoh has one of Bollywood's abiding star as a guiding light at home. He gets to match strides with another dancing star in his two post-debut films. "Govindaji, whom I hero-worship along with my dad, is my co-star in my next two films Dharmesh Darshan's untitled film and Suneil Sir's Loot. And I've to dance with Govindaji in both! I guess more than my debut film I've reason to be nervous about what comes afterwards." Incidentally, Mimoh's co-star in Dharmesh Darshan's film is Hansika Motwani who was supposed to make her debut with Mimoh two years ago. "I guess it's a small world, even if it's show-world," says Mimoh.
