Time Warner has <a href="http://www.nypost.com/seven/01102008/business/times_world_view_463433.htm">taken a stake</a> in Gaia Online, which <a href="http://gigaom.com/2007/04/22/move-over-myspace-gaia-online-is-here/">mints money</a> turning pretend buildings, make-believe cash, virtual avatars and very real advertising into a -- wait for it -- online hangout for teenagers. It joins Disney, Viacom and Sony in eagerly plowing fresh capital into Gaia's room full of functional computers instead of into hiring a bunch of whiny entitled writers.

The best part for Time Warner is that the computers and robots inside them have readily agreed to rent dystopian Warner Bros. flicks like the Matrix and Batman Returns to the impressionable youths for $2 a pop. Also, none of them have grown strike beards or ever will, unless necessary to hunt down and kill John Connor.
